  • Our perception of wine is so individual, however there are common wine terms for beginners and experts alike, that can be used to describe wine. I have made the series of two video to give tools and descriptors you can use to confidently describe wine. In this video I will talk about wine’s sensory and structural elements in general, such as acidity, alcohol, tannins, body, aroma and aftertaste and suggest terms, which you can use to describe these elements.
Some of the WINE ACCESSORIES I use regularly:
🍷 Riedel Veritas Old World Syrah Glass: amzn.to/3uC6zgW
🥂 Riedel Veritas New World Pinot Noir Glass: amzn.to/3uG8Nfc
🗜️ Coravin Model Two Wine Preservation System: amzn.to/3FaFbLK
    🍾 Cork puller: amzn.to/3iBrFZZ
📚 Some of my favorite WINE BOOKS:
📓 Flawless: Understanding Faults in Wine by Jamie Goode: amzn.to/3eb7AYP
📒 Understanding Wine Technology: The Science of Wine Explained by David Bird: amzn.to/3e2qBNb
📕 Authentic Wine: Toward Natural and Sustainable Winemaking (by Jamie Goode): amzn.to/3ygtuAC
📘 The Oxford Companion to Wine (by Jancis Robinson): amzn.to/3ryy0H6
📙Wine Grapes: A Complete Guide to 1,368 Vine Varieties, Including Their Origins and Flavours (by Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding and Jose Vouillamoz): amzn.to/3RCAheM
📗 A Life Uncorked (by Hugh Johnson): amzn.to/3M5yeyQ

I memorized your description at the video’s beginning, and I’m going to use it for every wine I drink.

Nailed it, with organization of content that makes all that is relative very memorable! Most of us will never be a Sommelier, but since we don’t have a Somm available most days, this was an outstanding take home lesson!

Ok, just completed Part I & II in reverse order... Both videos excellent Agnese..!
I'm going to research online for wine tasting notes template so I can work on my description skills. I believe it will help me enjoy wines, and fill in some missing pieces of puzzle between "that's good, that's bad" which heretofore has been my approach... I'm detailed, but not always, and I sometimes just go with my gut whenever possible... 🥴😊🍷
    Cheers Agnese 🥂, liked, sharing..!
Keep up your great and helpful work..! 💞

WSET tasting guide might help, but it can be quite boring. There are some great wine writers who have amazing language when it comes to wine descriptions - Hugh Johnson and Andrew Jefford comes to mind. 🍷🍾

thank you - extremely useful. I owe you a Paolo Scavino riserva.
A request! In your peregrinations please signal those restaurants with the best sommeliers.
(I was impressed by Giuseppe, at the Locanda dell'Arco at Cissone.) All the "poetic" stuff he'd say turned out to be actually and factually true. From the Arneis of the many antipasti to the Barolo of the secondo and moscato di Santo Stefano Belbo with the dessert.
    Your work is amazing!

      Dear Steven,
I agree, to have a great somm serve Your table adds to the restaurant experience. ✨🍷 Paolo Scavino is a wonderful producer, they make lovely Nebbiolos. P.S. Your somm proved that one can make great food and wine pairings staying only in one region - Piemonte! 🥂✨

@@NoSediment I remember Scavino with fondness. 6 American fat cat businessmen working in Milan, who had just discovered the joys of Barolo, traveled to Alba and hired me to translate for them. They came with Wine Spectator and wanted that year's top scorers. I liked old Scavino the best (he was still a simple guy, like a farmer, while all the others had gone a bit more sophisticated).
Ah the days that are no more!
His riserva that year was the finest Barolo I had ever tasted... I opened the bottle in Bratislava and to this day I remember a Czech friend's enthusiasm at every sip... she's find some new retrogusto and trace scent... that Scavino Riserva never stopped giving.
I keep saying I owe you because I translate... mostly screenplays, but occasionally cantina stuff... and there you are making short videos with all the terms.
Hugely helpful... I can't thank you enough!

You forgot to mention medium (-), medium (+) and finish. I always have trouble with telling the length of the finish.

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
I very intentionally did not mention medium (-)/(+). This is highly linked with WSET study program and can create even more confusion for people. And for me finish is the same as aftertaste - i do not count seconds - for how long the flavours linger on the palate, but make a mark is that long and is that pleasant. 🥂☺️🍾 Cheers!

Aw really I don’t think I could be asked to care how to describe it….
I would just tell it as I found it … I’d be a laughing stock probably 😂
    I am clearly not a wine connoisseur… yet 😉

Tell it as You feel. Honesty can be very beautiful and exciting. Some of the greatest wine descriptions I have read have not been based on some prepared standards! 🥂 Cheers!
