I was always curious to hear this piece; Ian Pace said it is maybe the most unplayable thing he wrote haha I know that there is a human recording by Finnissy himself in his personal collection, but it's never been digitized. At some point there was talk of transferring it, but you'd have to buy a bit of equipment. If someone gets in touch with him then he might still be amenable, he tends to be open to inquiries and such.
Down...the most violent fall down the longest flight of stairs in the world. Reminds me of the comedy recording by Monte Python...The life of Mary Queen of Scots and the death of Mary Queen of Scots...in which there are heard after each is announced an unearthly clatter of banging metal and commotion then silence. After the infernal banging ceases (the death of Mary Queen of Scots), a little voice peeps "I'm not dead yet" then another loud barrage of clattering and noise continues until indeed she is dead...It's way more hilarious than this music...but just an odd association that came to me as I listened to the violent clattering.
I love your descriptions and explanations. Thanks for sharing your inspirational idea Fun fact : all - uses all the keys of the piano Fall - falls from high pitch to down pitch Down -plays at low register pitch
I'm very open minded to music and I found this excruciating!! To people who enjoyed this: what did you get from it? I'm genuinely so curious. Is there anyone out there who feels a need to listen to this regularly?
Hello! So, what I find fascinating about this music is simply that it's so different from what I'm used to listen to, it's kinda refreshing. I very much enjoy to be surprised and to find what more can be done (though this is a midi render, I guess). And, as a "composer", I'm always looking for new stuff that keep my mind going. It's definetely not a regular piece in my playlist, but that's only a matter of getting used to it. From time to time I like to get myself into these crazier stuff cuz the feeling I get while listening is always different. I sometimes find it to be very silly and I go to my regular playlist, but there's days that I just put it in the background, and other days that I like to see the score to maybe understand the piece a little more and see it as more than weird sounds. There's a lot to be said but here is a start to something. :P
@@javmbz_schlithler I'm really glad you replied, that's a cool perspective! Maybe I'll try to ease into this kind of music myself - not sure I'll make it as far as you though! Cheers.
This is a midi playback so I’d be disinclined to judge the piece from this as important dimensions ( struggle, to name but one !) are completely absent.
@@MorganHayes_Composer.Pianist That's fair - although I personally also enjoy listening to and judging electronic music with zero human/instrument connection - so I tend to feel a midi playback is just as useful a subject of judgement as any other piece of music!
This is what a piano gets up to to purge itself of the wonderful music we make it endure....................it's all a load of rebellious bollocks...............
The harmonics/partials you can hear after the chord at 6:00 are quite magical.

I have very much missed this recording ever since your old account was taken down. Thank you for reuploading!
epic midi 😎
:)
The piece is pretty amazing actutally, the performance sounds like a robot
If you want to listen to the initial tempo without this 80%~90% speed, turn on 1.2x or 1.1x in order to listen the faster version.
What does this mean?
@@dbadagna change to 1.2x to listen to faster version

Torre de babel en el piano
Marvelous composition. Too bad there’s no recording, but even this midi rendering sounds pretty good.
All.fall.down is premiered by the composer himself, and also performed by Ian Pace.
@@achoikompositionah, I see. It is just that there is no recording on TH-cam.
Thanks for Takureido for making midi playback
Why not properly credit the performer by including their name in the video description above?
Because the performance was executed through thw midi playback. Noone have the recording of this piece
