for me the hind is by far still the most exciting helo in dcs. this thing is legandary as the huey is. i know it since my childhood in the 80s. on the other side, things like this kiowa i´ve never heard of until the dcs announcement. hind is an absolute blast for me. love it. it´s cruise speed is the gazelle´s max speed btw.
One of the main causes of NDB radio needle wandering is called the night effect. They teach it in pilot training but it comes across as mystical dark magic you never remember except that it's a thing. Along with about 6 other things that effect radio compasses. Of course these days it's all mostly GPS.. and a fair number of NDB/VOR beacons have been decommissioned.
Nice Video and tutorial! Everytime I see RC flying a helicopter, I wish I could handle them the same way!!! ...I woulde be glad to get em flying like you, Cap ;) . Not the best heli-pilot but much better than me!!! ...and you didn't hit the ground as hard as RC did :)
Great video, as always. Although the Hind manual is incomplete for today, it's fun to learn the Hind's systems by ourselves. By the way, we've got Hind and we've got Huey in DCS, have you considered to recreate the famous helicopter chase from Rambo 2? I know, it wasn't a real Hind, but it's good to imagine it was.
Is that "Airspeed sensor to doppler" switch actually supposed to be down in real life? I have a feeling this is a bug. The main reason I came to this video was for this, as I could not figure out for the life of me why my map was always wonky.
It's a bug, it's meant to be up, especially when at higher altitudes and velocities when the Doppler system itself becomes inaccurate/inoperable. Although I think they leave it off when performing taxi/ground ops.

I'm sorry Cap, you've mad a critical error while making this video. You hadn't turned on the cockpit fan for the pilot.
Correction: You successfully activated the fan later in the video. I'll overlook it for this time but just this once you see.
It is only needed for high speed flights. With both fans turned on the Hind's top speed will increase by about 20 km/h.
Phew! Just remembered fan in time...
Less cyclic inputs. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
I was going blindly up vote but damnit im a sucker for heavens gate

thx
you can check the inner marker earlier before passing outer marker so you can verify you're coming in on runway heading from far out too
Roger would like to try a beacon approach at some point.
@@grimreapers For sure, I personally love flying IMC. Having the carrier come out of the fog is so rewarding
-Cap " GR and landing Helicopters, Not a great combination " -Me at the GRAV level specializing in Helicopters crying.
