My first album was from Focus! I was 14, and now I am 64! I still listen to Focus, with Spotify, and I saw yesterday in the evening on TH-cam their best concert: Hamburger Concerto! Listen first this on Spotify.
There's something special about the '70s dutch prog bands... Focus, Trace, Supersister... But Focus is the best of the bunch. I get so excited when i'm listening to them that I have to stop whatever i'm doing. Few other bands and musicians have that effect on me (Allan Holdsworth, Brand X...)
Had the privilege of seeing Focus three times in the seventies, an outstanding band producing outstanding music. Still going as well but with only two of the original members.
Love this band, and loved playing covers of their music when I was in a band. Definitely not a boring 3 chord progression in their music. Challenging and rewarding.
Too far ahead of their time. Geez, the world was still in love with led zeppelin and grand funk back then, and still nursing a Beatles hangover......but these guys paved the way for the decades to come 👍
Thank you for uploading this amazing compilation, a true treasure trove🎸🤘🏻 And Jan’s sense of time is like a machine, he is spot on no matter how complex the passage. And I loved his solo work too, a true genius.
Totally shocked that I am increasing the number of comments by 50%. Only lucked into this as I was watching the Focus 2 rehearsal clip and this popped up.
This was a lucky stumble or maybe it wasn't as I resort to Focus moving waves every now and then. Best opening I'd seen and great filming in a relaxed grove. Thanks for sharing and making my day 😊
I have a good Focus story : Capitol Theater in Montreal summer 1973. Return to Forever opening (!!!) . It was an extremely humid night and at one point through one of the extended Anonymous parts , interference from a classical radio station was coming through on Akkerman's amps, a soprano was blasting an aria . Jan, without missing a beat, started kicking the amp, and when nothing happened , Thijs interjected "two for the price of one"! The audience cracked up in laughter.
I recall Rory Gallagher picking up the radio playing at a Crystal Palace garden party in 1971. If I remember correctly it was the football results. Crystal Palace Bowl was of course right next to two huge radio transmitters visible from all over London.
I can finally see some of the drawbar settings and put them like Thijs did on my old Hammond. Might sound great in church. Actually this whole song sounds very much like serious worship song.
So far ahead of everyone at the time, 5 Leslie's on stage in some clips, but obviously Jan was using at least 1 or more? on concerto track. Didn't lDidn't
@@SilvioNapoliiu5SPA Thijs is intentionally silly at times, but it's joyful. Akkerman, holy cow. one of the all time best. few on his level back then, technically, or today, melodically.
🎸 I saw Focus back in the 70s a couple of times and love them even now that i myself am 70.
Jan Akkerman is one of the best guitarists in the world.
❤ I have the honor of putting this first comment, to honor and venerate the most important and greatest band in progressive rock... long live Focus ❤
Hear hear
I began to listen when I whas fourteen and now I am sixty two still listening the best progressive rock ever made . Genius!

What a Fantastic Progrock Band in the early 70,s🎸❤️🎸
Real musicians. Love the band. The Dutch artistic heritage is very strong, Rembrandt etc.
Only the best band ever!! All amazing musicians.
I've been a fan since 1971. Now I'm 67 and still getting great joy from them. Thank you for this!
The fact that this has less than 500 likes is heartbreaking

A part of my 70s-

Jan blows the so called top ten away 🎼👌

Imagine being a band with all your gear set up in that lovely house and being able to play and record at any time❤
Not any house, but a castle😅
Μοναδικοί και ανεπανάλληπτοι!!! (from Greece)❤
I remember being impressed by Jan Ackerman when I saw Focus in the Marquee around 1970.
some timeless classics which bring back fond memories
Underrated for sure

Focus is definitely one of the most underrated band of the '70s

Jan Ackerman 👌🎼
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Genios totales!!!
Zomaar verschijnt dit op mijn youtube . Cadeautje
Ackerman classically trained ie horizontal vibrato as opposed to vertical west.
Mis épocas de adolescente, unos de mis grupos favoritos
Seen them here in Scotland 2022 Fantastic even given they are now in their seventies.

I like the transition a few seconds after 40:45 Nice 'n creepy!
The drum fill at 3:33 -and at many other points are innovative creative and very cool.
Focus and Ekseption are probably my favourite Dutch bands
Mine too.
Here is a truly magical album by another Dutch band who only made two. You're welcome! th-cam.com/video/bb2Hitx2uAU/w-d-xo.html

Hace dias compre hocus pocus , the best of Focus , Jan ,Thijs , grandes musicos
Focus:..de lo mejor del rock progresivo.!!!
Esto de lo más maravilloso que he visto en el progresivo ❤🎉
Definitely go very good together : )
Really really, really really really groovy.
Genius!
still good love it
Obra prima
Sim❤
Finally! I get to hear the entire session. Outstanding!!
Jan is the Greatest Guitarist ever. Just so different.
Jan was far and away the greatest guitarist to grace the planet.
Certainly one of, but I rate Allan Holdsworth and Jeff Beck above Jan
Thanks for putting this together, great to see them. The only notable omission is their famous performance of Hocus Pocus on Midnight Special in 1973
Odd that Thijs didn't appear to be using any reverb on the L122, both tabs are up.
sounds like Jan is riffing on "baby please don't go" at the start. Focus is criminally underappreciated in the US, Akkerman especially.
Love this ❤
❤ it … ❤❤❤
Magnificent

Philip Catherine is good too.
never jump and run with a turtle in your hands
Part of it is silly prog rock, but Jan Akkerman makes it gutsy and cool. I am still impressed by the musicianship, unsurpassed really. .
no silly prog Here
