  • Pacific Coastal is a regional airline headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, that flies a fleet of Beechcraft 1900Cs, 1900Ds, and Saab 340A and B models.
    One of their shorter routes is the Vancouver to Victoria route, a route that's just 60 kilometres between the two airports.
    Today, I try out Pacific Coastal's Beech 1900D on this uniquely short flight!

    Great view beginning at 04:25 as the aircraft banks to the right. Visible are the 'Flying Beaver' restaurant and seaplane terminal. On the other side of the Fraser River is the 'Terra Nova' area of Richmond, a great trail to cycle or walk while watching aircraft lift off.

    I can understand your love for the 1900. I used to fly the 1900-D for a regional in the United States. It was a blast to fly! We had regular passengers that loved that plane too. I miss flying that bird.

    I used to live in Smithers (YYD) and periodically flew to Calgary (YYC) on Central Mountain Air's 1900D on a Monday morning. Beautiful flight Smithers > Prince George > Dawson Creek > Calgary. Highlight one time was flying past the top of Mount Robson. Friday night return flight (that didn't stop in Dawson Creek) was flying past Columbia Icefields at sunset.

    Nice trip report! I flew a Pasco 1900D from the south terminal of CYVR to CYQQ (Comox) and back--my first on such a small regional aircraft, not including the seaplanes that I've flown in Vancouver to Victoria and back. I love flying, but I have to say that I felt a little claustrophobic in the 1900D. I was also a little surprised about having to step over a hump in the middle of the aircraft ... containing what I think are the wing spars.

    I just flew this route a few weeks ago! It’s a great flight. Next time you’re at YYJ you should definitely check out the BC Aviation Museum if you haven’t been before; I had a layover between Pacific Coastal flights (YVR-YYJ-YLW) and it was amazing. Also, while the YVR South Terminal lacks some amenities, Galiano Cafe before security is excellent.
    EDIT: In fact, looking back at my photos, I rode this exact plane (C-GPCR) on February 26, 2021!

    Lucky you got to fly in that prop. Jets might be more exciting but they're everywhere whereas regional turboprops aren't so abundant (at least not anymore) so flying on props is more exotic than flying on jets if you ask me. Would you agree?

    I flew a 1900D back in 1988 between Blanc Sablon QC and Deer Lake NFLD. I don't recall the orange windows. (though in fairness, when I scanned the Kodachrome slides, so had to do major colour correction anyway. My bike flew on the belly of aircraft) with some baggage going into a compartment ahead of cockpit as I recall. It was a very bumpy ride. And no winglets :-) I have to wonder if adding winglets for such short hops is net positive because the advantage is at level flight which sin't long enough on those flights to counter the extra weight of aircraft.

    • @johndonald3566
      @johndonald3566 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Likely you flew on the Beechcraft 1900C( Low ceiling and no winglets).
      The 1900D first flew in 1991 and all of them rolled off the production line standard with winglets.

    Steering away from this lecture but putting a similarity, Noreen Kastner el al. v. Beech Aircraft corporation describes a wrongful death manufacture of aircraft failure no warn of defect-evidence spin propensities' of aircraft reports of instance's of similar accidents were admissible to show causation of the accident and to rebut any issue of contributory fault, not to establish the manufacturer's knowledge of the spin propensities of the aircraft.
