Good question! You can lightly scribe a line and carefully align the stamps to the guideline. The base of the letters is different with each size alphabet set and the smaller the alphabet set, the more care and patience is needed.
Noticed even the name Frank was crooked and slanted down in the video. Painters or gaffers tape to make a line. Or chalk even so you can wipe it away. Not really a fan of scrapping a line down to follow cause it can sometimes be too deep or get a little off and it’s kinda permanent.
@tande leather I realize this is rather old but suppose Frank wanted his name painted? Would you simply use a tiny brush and just like with a coloring book paint within the lines
Is it just me, or are the letters spaced rather randomly? What is the point of lining the stamps up as shown when the distance between letters is not uniform? Stamps that cost this much should not be made in a way that makes it look like a 3rd grader made whatever it is you're working on.
Hello Emily! Although you could stamp on dyed vegetable tanned leather, the design will only be an indention and it could potentially affect the finish. You will get much better results stamping prior to dying.
I have some belt scraps that were given to me and want to repurpose them. They will work plain, but I wanted to know if it was possible to customize them with stamps. Then maybe dye/paint over that.
It can depend on what type of dye they were colored with and how they were finished. If they have already been sealed, it is unlikely that they will take the new color. If they have not been sealed, it still might not take depending on what type of dye you are using versus with what type of dye they used before. That being said, there is still paint! Leather paint will sit on top of the surface, so it is less affected by previous treatments. You could stamp them and then use Cova Color paints to emphasis the stamping work. Does anyone know if it's possible to stamp on the "wrong side" of leather? For example, if I wanted to stamp a secret message on the inside of a belt? Thanks!
I searched Tandy leather and couldn't find the piece you attached to the hefty handle. What is it called, and where can I get one? I am having a lot of trouble getting the 3D stamps to make a good impression in the leather.
Terrible delivery.. I went to sleep. There is a little dot at the bottom of the stamp to confirm the stamp's orientation. That was never pointed out. The F is not in the straight line as the smaller letters. Wetting the surface would also help.
The “r” is about three times farther away from the “F” than it should be. Also, I don’t know if you were 3/4 of the way into a case of beer or what, but your letters were not aligned. Why bother taking the time to produce a video tutorial when it’s clear you really don’t care if you’re executing the skills you’re attempting to teach with apathy and imprecision??? I don’t get it. Stop making videos and have another beer.
You could just about get another letter between the F and the r, but thanks for the video.

You could try taking some masking tape and taping a line that will be your baseline.

I see belts done like this at trade days often and they are prefinished. Then they stamp a name and rub something over them

the best way is , buy one of those metal alphabet sheet and with a burner you can do it , i have done in that way.
