I'm also impressed that there are so many English books in the apartment. And great books too.
Yes, Jack reads fast. However don't let that make you reflect on your own reading skills/speed. The speed of reading does not mean "better reader"
I'm a reading teacher for dyslexics and the goal is to comprehend what you are reading. A slower reading (and writing) speed is NO REFLECTION on one's intelligence. So while it is impressive that a person can read many books in a certain time frame, it is also impressive that anyone can read considering that the human brain did not evolve to read the written word. It is an amazing feat regardless of speed.
These videos are fun as Jack is a cutie. I can say that because I have a son just 2 years younger. ;)

About the walk to the teather being stinky- In Spanish (I honestly don't know about English as it is my second language) we say 'Mucha mierda' (lots of shit) to wish someone good luck with their play! Apparently it's because when people used to use carriages with horses instead of cars, when a play was incredibly successful, there were a lot of horses around the theater, which resulted in a lot of shit. Hence, lots of shit is like wishing someone that their play does well!

We got to read a chapter from Notes from a Big Country in class and when I got home I told my mum about it. Then she walked over to her bookshelf, pulled her copy out of it and gave it to me so I could read the rest of the book. This was so random and perfect.

  • @katiarodriguez5015

About the book about the Canadian girl living in Tokyo: her mocking Japanese people's English and non-native speakers in general is unfortunately EXTREMELY ACCURATE. I came to uni in the UK from abroad and part of my degree included a year abroad in Japan, and A LOT of my English-natives acquaintances would make fun of the way Japanese people spoke English despite the fact that we literally study Japanese at uni and are supposed to know more about the country and like it enough to spend a year there. Not to mention that we were studying Japanese so we should have been immersing ourselves in the language rather than encourage our Japanese friends to speak English to us just to laugh at them afterwards. Of course I am not a native speaker either, and although I have experienced some mocking because of it, it was never as bad. Then I realised: Brits will give you a pass as long as they find your accent 'cute' and as long as you're white-passing.
