This was the first Pokémon game where I find myself constantly swapping out Pokémon and wanting to try different ones out. With usual games, I find one solid party and I stick with that team. This game, by far, is my favorite of the entire franchise.

Right?! I spend 15 minutes at the box trying to figure out which Mon I'm swapping for the new Mon I want to use. Kept that Kleaver and my shiny alpha Gengar on the team though!

Dont have the game jet. But after seeing all those footages, I will still continue with my idea that when there is a new game with new pokemon, then I just use new pokemon for my team. Even if it is harder.
      Team for now:
Basculin(not a big fan of basculegion, might not evolve it)
Sneasler (also not a big fan but okay)
      Thyplosion
      Kleavor
      Ursaluna
Last one I'm still not sure if I should use wyrdeer or braviary. But I'll figuere it out

      I had most of my team picked before starting, once the mons were leaked. I went for a “mysterious/dark” Pokémon team. So I’m basically playing as a “cool guy” trainer. A gladion type. Those are the mons I like the best anyway, and this game had great ones to choose from so I figured it was a good time. So I used;
      Quispy - typhlosion
      Reaver - weavile
      Gumdrop - Sneasler
      Mr. Magius - mismagius
      Shadow - zoroark
      Pharaoh - Umbreon
It was pretty fun. And I didn’t struggle as much as I expected with that much overlap. First game though that I actually nicknamed my Pokémon. First game I actually got this immersed into

The game design was really good in thus aspect, bringing the players to change their team more often, which didn't happen in past games mostly because there was no reason to and because the wild pokemons were underleveled almost everywhere, which is resolved by alphas in this game. Speaking about them, since they are more leveled than other pokemons you want to catch them and add them to your team, and the challenge that comes with it is really good game design. Best game of the franchise even just because of that

    • @O1OO1O1

You can complete the pokedex with any team, it's really your ability in the OW that matters more, but if you have to get into a battle for a pokemon, use Scizor with a defense or spdef nature (can be changed with mints), Scizor gets roost, false swipe, and an omni buff move (lol like he needed it).
Goodra is also amazing because of shelter and its natural bulk with good move coverage. Both resist many types so they rarely struggle in majority of the fights.
Hope someone read this under all these comments, have a blessed day!

    • @jasonhuang6332
      @jasonhuang6332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Depends if you want to 100% the Dex - some entries need you to defeat the Pokemon using specific move types, as Austin goes over.

    • @faerora
      @faerora 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@jasonhuang6332 Yeah but as someone who has the shiny charm, it best to just catch the majority of them more than 5 times to get the Pokedex entry to level 10 as that's all you need for the majority of them. And ones that are too hard to get just use there style moves till they get to level 10. Rinse repeat. Obviously you havta do this with legendaries as there is only one to obtain. And the unknowns only dex entry for competition is to catch them all A-z-!? Which sure.
To "make a team" to complete the dex entry is redundant for the majority of them as using the move yourself is quicker "seeing the pokemon use leafage" which yes does count. Just like evolving a rowlet to dartrix counts as "catching" them. How does Austin John not know this? Sorry I didn't watch the video. and have shiny charm hunting perfect dex entry FOr rowlet, dartrix n decidueye cuz I wanna shiny hunt them in the space distortions. Any questions please lemme know. I've always liked Gallade for being a hard hitting False Swipe user that knows Hypnosis, simply for the task of catching Pokémon. Of course, "Drowsy" in this game, is not as debilitating as Asleep status...but for catch odds boosting purposes alone, I assume it is just as effective as anything else, like Burn (which could accidentally KO the target) or Paralyze.

    • @RoninXDarknight

I started to perfect entries by looking at the pokes I would find in a specific zone. I think that is in general worth a look too, if one would make an attempt to be as efficient as possible. Although there certainly are overlaps with other maps, which could also mean that you could make a list of every pokemon in each zone that needs a specific move and see which ones overlap there and which ones you can ignore in the first map because the same move will be needed along with it in map 3.
Honorable mention goes to magikarp for looking at all those eeveelution baby-doll eyes. Also helps with the splash quest.

Wow. This is really intense with optimizing team. I am impressed. I optimized my team in a different way. Here are my six team members. The most important thing is type. Golem is rock-ground. Infernape is fire-fighting. Walrein is water-ice. Magnezone is electric-steel. Gardevoir is psychic-fairy. This is a group of the twelve types that best help me counter opposing types by exploiting supereffective moves. This is strength in the offensive sense. I like using duel types. They have greater type coverage with STAB. The downside is that they usually have a lot of types supereffective against them. This is weakness. I focus on supereffective matchups. Resistances and immunities are not as important. They are important for figuring out the weakness of duel types though. A team has six Pokemon. With duel types I double it to twelve types on my team.
Here is how the types go. The best types for an offensive team is ground and fighting. They are the two types with the most offensive strengths. They got five each. The next types are fire, rock and ice. They have the second most strengths with four each. Rock and ice are the two most underrated types. The next types have decent coverage and help fulfill a role. Electric has a nice conductive role. It is strong against water and flying. Water has a nice erosive role. It is strong against fire, ground and rock. Flying has a nice predatory role. It is strong against grass, bug and fighting. Psychic has a nice mental role. It is strong against fighting and poison. The remaining three types are those for super niche. They have decent coverage like the last category. However they are special for countering certain types that are difficult to counter. Squeezing them in really benefits from dual type Pokemon. Dark is a niche counter for psychic and ghost. Fairy is a niche counter for dragon. Steel is a niche counter for fairy.
There are eightieen Pokemon types in total. So there are six I have to leave out. I leave out the six worst for my playstle. Two are normal and dragon. They are so useless for using supereffective attacks and gaining advantage. Dragon is the most overrated type. Three are grass, poison and ghost. They focus way too much on status moves. So their type strengths and weaknesses are inferior. I just use better types. Water is like grass but better. Steel is like poison, but better. Dark is like ghost but better. Then there is bug. Out of all the types I left out bug is the best. It does have decent coverage. The strength against psychic and dark is especially nice. I leave out bug because bug Pokemon tend to have low stats. It is a minor reason.

I like my way of putting a team together. I recently beaten Shield. I had a similar team. It had Quagsire, Lucario, Colossal, Delibird, Morpeko and Galerian Rapidash. This video does bring up tutor movies. That is a good point. I can stretch my type coverage even further. My team members are high level now. They can't learn any new moves by level up. So the only way to learn new moves is tutor. I checked the tutor. I found something. Gardevoir can learn the grass move energy ball. Honchkrow can learn the ghost move shadow ball. Infernape can learn the poison move poison jab. That is nice. Of course normal moves are widely availiable. The only types I can't learn any moves from is dragon and bug. Fortunately there is no Pokemon that is only weak against those types. I was worried about Kingdra. I looked it up on Bulbapedia and found that it is weak to fairy now. I thought it was like that, but I still wanted to doublecheck. I am thinking about final movesets. This video had a list of best types. My list alighted very well. The only type I missed was grass. This isn't a huge problem. If I really need a grass Pokemon for Pokedex completion, I can just get one out of the box. I like Torterra, Leafeon and Parasect. If Gardevoir could learn Energy Ball, that would help too. It is nice that Legends Arceus has ride Pokemon. That way one can focus their team attacks only on battle. There are no more pesky TMs.

Awesome info. Fwiw, my "doing the rounds" team covers all move types except for Bug (which is so infrequent it's something I don't mind coming back to later), while simultaneously offering semi / total immunity to a long list of attack types for quite a few of my 'mons. For anyone interested, here's my team (if it matters, all are Alphas, with the exception of Magnezone):
    1. Hisuian Goodra
    2. Garchomp
    3. Magnezone
    4. Gardevoir
    5. Hisuian Zoroark
    6. Steelix
I absolutely love this team, simply due to the sheer ease of battling with so many resistances/immunities. Being able to have every attack type except Bug covered is a huge bonus and lets me take care of each wild Pokemon's attack-type-specific research tasks as I encounter them. Sure, I may have to occasionally stop to swap a move in or out, but that's a minor hassle in my book in exchange for the immunity these 'mons offer.
Btw, love this channel. Keep up the great work!

I think using the same team of Pokemon to get the Defeat with super effective move tasks is flawed. Many Pokemon have tasks to use a certain move a number of times or to use moves in a certain style. In order to maximize efficiency it would make sense to use Pokemon who want to use a certain move vs Pokemon you need to defeat with a super effective type.
For example: Basculin wants to use Wave Crash 40 times. Wave Crash is a water move. Geodude has a Defeat with water moves 15 times task. So use Wave Crash with Basculin on Geodude and you get credit for both tasks. Apply this across the board. Chimchar wants to use Ember, find a Pokemon that you need to defeat with fire moves and use Ember on Chimchar to get the defeats.
At some point you are likely to run out of Pokemon that need super effective defeats, but still have Pokemon that want to use a specific move/style since the amount that want to use specific moves/styles is way more than defeats.

In case anyone is wanting to find a pokemon that learns Fire, Fighting, Electric, and Ground Moves due to being the most common super effective type requirements, Infernape has all of those, plus Rock, Steel, Ghost, Poison, and Flying coverage as well. Very solid pokemon that wasn't brought up in the video. It does cost money for tutoring, but with distortion farming that shouldn't be a big issue

Gastrodon is my go too, so many Pokemon can’t do anything and it has recover. Offensively it’s not that strong so agile moves can leave enough HP to make the catch even when you are at a high level. If you fail- tank a hit, recover, and try again, most alphas can’t come close to one hitting after level 70 or so.

I think the best way to approach this is to get 2 things done at once. For example: I have to defeat 10 Geodudes with grass type moves. And for Leafeon I have to use grass blade a certain amount of times. So I swap in Leafeon and get to work. Another one I did recently: Staravia use aerial ace, defeat Silcoon with flying type moves.
Having a constant team will cost you time if your goal is to fully complete the Pokedex.

Of note is that between Gallade and Lucario, they can learn EVERY type attack. Gallade can't get water, dragon, steel, and dark, while lucario learns water pulse, dragon pulse, darkpulse/crunch, and flash cannon/bullet punch. Meanwhile Lucario can't get flying, bug, fire, grass, or fairy, but Gallade learns aerial ace, x-scissor, fire punch, leaf blade/magical leaf, and dazzling gleam.
As a bonus, Gallade can also get hypnosis, calm mind, and false swipe so he can also be your capture expert if you otherwise have a strong team.

I think you might be overthinking this a little. If you're trying to go for maximum efficiency in completing the dex, the best way to go is use pokemon that require you to see certain moves at the same time. Example I need to see Bibarel use Aqua Tail like 40 times so I will use him to knock out geodudes. And once you hit your move quota, swap for something else. This requires you to check on it and swap much more often but it saves so much time in the end.

4 Pokemon from Obsidian Fieldlands that can cover all types except dragon: Samurott, Infernape, Togekiss, Snorlax
Good additions to this are Goodra (for dragon) and Torterra (for better grass move than Togekiss' Magical Leaf)
Alternatively, swap out Snorlax for Wyrdeer (requires Torterra for full type coverage)
    Movesets:
Samurott: Ceaseless Edge, Aqua Tail, Poison Jab, X-Scissor
Infernape: Raging Fury, Drain Punch, ThunderPunch, Shadow Claw
Togekiss: Moonblast, Air Slash, Psychic, Magical Leaf
Snorlax: High Horsepower, Iron Head, Ice Punch, Rock Slide
