    Korra's entire identity her whole life is being the avatar and her enemies have tried to take that away from her. I believe books 1 and 2 happened within six months of each other so she lost her bending and had Rava ripped out of her pretty close together. And now her legs are broken and the Air Nomads are doing what she sees as her job so she's completely defeated. I love that her story is essentially the opposite of Aang's. She wants to be the avatar, she wants to be the hero, but right now she's at her lowest point.

    Korra crying in that wheelchair hits me every time. She faced death head-on twice now, between this and Una-Vaatu, almost lost her bending for good with Amon, and that poison just tore up her body to the point that she can’t walk. And that would probably make her depressed, the pain and not being able to do her duty. She’s grown so much at this point, I love her so much 😢

    Ending of this episode makes me cry everytime. So sad that after all of this, Korra is the most physically hurt even more so than the airbenders or even Tenzin who almost got beat to death a couple episodes ago. She looks ROUGH in that wheelchair man... who knows how long it will be before she even walks again.

    That tear at the end had more meaning than you think, and it will answer your question on what’s up with Korra. It was her final breaking point. For 3 seasons straight you have seen Korra being broken down over and over again, with people repeating that there isn’t a place for her in the world anymore, over and over again.
    Imagine being isolated for 16 years, hearing about the legendary Avatar Aang, who heroically defeated the fire lord and brought balance to the world. Korra only wanted to do the same, but she struggled over and over again in a time where she thought she wasn’t needed. That moment right there was when she finally was done. Tenzin basically said “We will bring balance to the world for how ever long you need, you are not needed, we can handle things” which was her final straw.
    Also I love the Bolin and Ghazan battle, for this whole season they were almost buddies, having small talk and stuff. As specially when Ghazan says “let’s see what you got!” imagine if they were a power duo (rip Ghazan) then they would literally be unstoppable. 2 lava benders fighting together, quite a shame though.
    Anyways, on to season 4 and all hail the great uniter!

    One of the things that I like the most about the show is that they maintain many elements of reality, like here we are dealing with mercury poisoning, which some of its consequences and symptoms are: headaches, difficulty sleeping, impaired sensations, hallucinations, muscle weakness and twitching, emotional changes (mood swings, irritability, nervousness), kidney damage, breathing difficulties... so basically Korra is going through a lot, beyond some broken bones 😬

    I always get a little emotional everytime I see Jinora get her tattoos. Aang was 12 when he mastered air and Jinora was 11 when she mastered it making her the youngest on record I believe. According to the comics Tenzin didn't even master it till his late teens early adulthood.

    This episode really shows how strong Korra and the avatars in general are. Like she could've beaten them all if not for the poison.
    Also the scene where she followed Zahir out of the cave reminded me of a Hulk scene.

    • @nicholsonkyle7
      @nicholsonkyle7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think that's because the writers got approved for season 3 and 4 at the same time. They could leave the ending of season 3 sad and open ended and set up Korra's journey for season 4. Unlike seasons 1 and 2 where the writers didn't know if they were going to be approved for the next season so they had to try to end the story that would satisfy not having a sequel. You can tell each season feels independent and disconnected from each other except seasons 3 & 4.

    Well think about it: She's had her bending taken from her in the first season (granted she got it back, but not before hitting rock bottom). She lost her connection to all of her past lives in the second season. In this season she was poisoned, beaten to within an inch of her life, and left wheelchair bound. She went through all that in her first year of fulfilling her role as the Avatar and SHE WAS JUST A TEENAGER! I'd be surprised if she WASN'T broken.

  • @Kobrakai21

    So the best guess that fans have had is that the poison was likely meant to be mercury (or whatever it's analog is in the Avatar universe). It beads up in the same manner as we saw the poison after Suyin pulls it out of Korra, and it's effects are similar to what Korra experienced. It's also a metal, hence the metal bending.

    Yes!! My favorite Korra moments (excluding some from book 4)--her breathing fire and going berserk after Zaheer. If this show wasn't on a kid's channel I think she would've killed him. Zaheer knew she couldn't fight them both and she still put up a huge fight. I believe he poisoned her with mercury, hence the hallucinations, etc. Great reaction guys!! I think you'll enjoy the last book a lot too.

    One of my fav seasons, each villain rly took from her, not only her physical strength but her mental fortitude as well... This season rly nailed down the coffin for Korra. As commander Bumi said " you have to tear them apart to build them back up"

    That was the first official airbender ceremony since Aang (guess it could also be any random dude from one of the 4 temples) got his tattoos, since when Tenzin became a master Aang was the only other airbender. Sure there were people of other nations present probably, but no airnomads.

  • @HelioTitan

    The poison being metallic always meant to me that it was mercury, and mercury poisoning has a lot of neurological and psychological side effects; which is why I think Korra seemed "sad" by the end of it.

    Awesome reaction! And kudos for leaving in the hallucination sequence. Some reactors leave it out but I always found it to be the most terrifying (and yet beautifully animated as usual) part of the episode. There is even some speculation that, unlike others given his presence within, that really _was_ Vaatu mocking Kortra, seeing this as a means of escape when she perishes. Looking forward to Book 4 reactions!

    • @dansby37

      Yes, which further emphasies that she is the beginning Avatar of the next 10,000 year cycle, it all still starts with Wan as he is the very 1st Avatar, and Korra is the 10,000th and last Avatar of the first phase of Avatars. But now she is the beginning Avatar of the next phase of Avatars for the next 10,000 years, as the 1st Avatar of the next phase, so she is and had to be like Wan in that its only her and just her. The next Avatar (the earth Avatar which series is coming soon and im looking forward to that one) will have Korra as his guide and if they make the fire Avatar series a year or so after they make the Earth Avatar series, then that Avatar will have Korra and the Earth Avatar as his or her guides for knowledge and skills. I think that is how its going to be, still guts me that it happened (I avoid the end scenes of the next to last episode of Book 2 of Korra, I just cant bear to watch that part), but I think Raava has to reset when dealing directly and being symbotic with a human, its just so much information and knowledge she can take in without overloading. I said this in another comment, but the last Avatar of this phase is going to be dealing with a lot, with Vaatu gestating in Raava and eventually coming out as well as Raava herself having to reset and lose the memories and knowledge of the last Avatars of this current phase, that Avatar may be in for it.

    I think that in the avatar state, they can bend any element. Many past avatars learned lava bending and although we haven't officially seen Korra learn it, she was able to bend it in the Avatar state, which gives her the abilities of all the past avatars.

  • @The_bougee_gremlin
    @The_bougee_gremlin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just realized that it totally makes sense that Bolin is a lava bender which is a mixture of fire and earth bending. Since Mako is a fire bender both would have inherited bending from each parent which would probably make it easier to learn a specific subform of their bending that would mesh with both paternal bending abilities.

    Her identity being shattered when all of her life was about being the avatar. That is what messed her up.
    Tenzin talking about bringing harmony and peace when that's korra's job. Jinora looking just like aang when korra has tried so much to fill his shoes. Jinora is literally leading the new gen of airbenders to take korra's life mission. As korea sits in a wheelchair. As someone who is (or was) most powerful being on earth, she is destroyed within herself.
    Every single villain has been so personal to korra and have tried to destroy her identity. That's also traumatizing, especially because all these attacks take place within like 8-10 months.

    • @ebrimajallow3165
      @ebrimajallow3165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      If I'm understanding your question correctly here's my response:
      Aang wasn't fighting a poison that could kill anyone plus Korra had a rather nasty fall which she lessened using air but it definitely affected the lower half of her body. Now she can't do the one thing she always wanted to do her whole life, be the avatar and do avatar things when the world needs her most. That's what's affecting Korra. Mentally and physically.

    • @dewantoroo
      @dewantoroo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aang was spiritually stronger than Korra and he still have his connection with past avatars. So he can always ask for their wisdom and guidance. And on the physical side, when aang fight ozai, he's pretty much in defense mode until he entered the avatar state, and he did pretty good job to keep his body from badly injured (exp : when he got thrown off to the sea, he water bend the water to catch him). Meanwhile Korra on this fight, she's not only fighting Zaheer but also the poison in her body, which also hinder her bending ability (maybe also her consciousness). She's pretty much lose to Zaheer on this fight.

    • @Patrick76399
      @Patrick76399 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aang was a kid pressured to kill an adult. Wasn't Aang told by the Guru that he wouldn't be able to go into the Avatar state at all- so going into the final fight Aang believed he lost it. A grown man was attempting to kill him several different ways- behead him, electrocute him, burn him alive. Aang did suffer but they gave him that storyline after Azula killed him and Katara brought him back instead of after the big final battle with the FireLord.
