So many people don't understand the last scene, which is sad, because It is a very powerful scene. Korra's identity is the avatar, her identity is revolving around the fact that she is the avatar. Every villain we have met was threatening her identity ( amon took her bending away, unalaq killed the avatar spirit and zaheer almost ended the avatar cycle) and not only that, they were all saying that she is useless and the world doesn't need her anymore. And here we have tenzin who is a really important figure for her, basically telling that the air nation can do her job and they don't need her. Can you imagine that? Imagine having your identity threatened by everyone and to make it worse, your mentor is going to replace you. Such a sad scene.

He Means well, it’s not a malicious comment. But after a year of 3 different villains telling you you’re useless and the world doesn’t need you anymore, it can be hurtful for your mentor to say essentially the same thing, even if he didn’t mean to.

This. That also makes her entering the avatar state while being held hostage by the Red Lotus devastating. She basically accepted that her, and by extension the future iterations of the Avatar, existence isn't valid anymore. Those hallucinations and everything that's happened to her really did her. A waterbender took her, the avatar, bending away almost permanently, and her uncle successfully made himself another version of the Avatar. Now we have this powerful group of anarchists who made her doubt herself even more. I guess that's the true venom of the Red Lotus.

'The Avatar state is a little underwhelming' The Avatar state is the combined knowlegde and power of all the past Avatars, but since Korra lost her connection, she is the only one fighting that battle while simultaneously fighting the poison that's killing her. This avatar state actually terrifies me a little.
    Here's why:
-Korra was fighting the poison which sent her whole body into total chaos. It's commonly assumed that the poison is mercury which is HELLA TOXIC in any quantity in the human body.
-She believed her father was dead, so she's in emotional turmoil, which in turn manifests as physical turmoil.
So she's actually borderline out of control in this avatar state. Reminds me of Aang in Book 2 Ep. 1 when that idiot general pretends to kill Katara to trigger the avatar state and Aang goes postal. It's like fully realized avatar power + grief + rage + full avatar state + going a little nuts because of the poison interference.
    Korra is a beast.
Also, remember we only see Aang's full avatar state one time, where Korra has had a chance to give us a more realistic view of a full avatar state utilized across many situations.

Every other avatar had themselves, the 1000+ strongest people in history, AND raava. I guess the writers did it because they gave her control of the avatar state in season 1 and forgot their worldbuilding on how powerful that would make her. That's why aang never mastered it until the literal final episode. I also dont get how people think that korra at the end of season 4 is somehow stronger than aang or any other avatar cause that literally requires believing that aang+the over 1000 strongest people in history+raava is somehow weaker than korra+raava.

12:51 man i will NEVER NOT get emotional when that music hits. The music is SO appropriate in adding the cathartic feeling knowing that Aang's vision of an Airbender society is being reintroduced into the world. But also at the same time, being INCREDIBLY sad in realising what it took to get this far.
All of that is processed in my head when that music hits.
And the combined look from Koraa feeling that she failed her role as the Avatar...is so goddamn bittersweet.
    Absolutely perfect.

Zaheer is one of my favorite villains of all time and I don't know that I've had a more immediate reaction a death scene than P'Li's. The last few episodes of Book 3 are probably my favorite run in either show (other than Beginnings!).
Book 4 is great too and there's a lot more carry over compared to previous seasons.

this episode is up there with my favorites in both shows. The last battle definitely had ozai v. aang vibes except better. Korra was in a very delicate state (mentally and physically), she was also out for blood. The final scenes were extremely sad because we got to understand how traumatized Korra was and still that didn't take anything away from the importance of the air nation reconnecting with their roots and Jinora becoming a Master. Also, we got to see the beginning of a beautiful exploration of what PTSD is, in the show, we have to remember here that Korra was poisoned with mercury, which is known to leave not only physical but also mental repercussions.

Book 4 and 1 are almost equally amazing but I ranked book 4 higher because it doesn't have the unecessary love triangle drama and it has some character development for... ^^

Yes, the crowd could've been similarly sized and filled with all of Aang's friends and family, and it was definitely a joyous occasion. But it was two airbenders. It was probably only Aang performing all of these rolls now filled by other airbenders. And Tenzin being able to give to his daughter that which he could not possibly have had must have been the absolute world to him.

    - Bolin is a freaking LAVABENDER!!1!11!!1! OMGGGG LOVE THAT!!!!!
