Fabulous Kirra-lea. Thanks for this. I love your calm, clear demos. I’ll get some of those sizer rings. Don’t tell a soul that this beginner used cardboard and sellotape to cast a bigger ring. No one must know!

Nicely done. Silver is probably the best metal to plate. Any diamond setter with a plating tank will take silver; it's a typical valuable metal and it doesn't cause any disturbance to the plating cycle.

Whaaa, you’re amazing at this!! So quick and confident and awesome outcome. Have had such a knowledgeable session watching this.
    Thanks.
my kit just arrived today and I’ve been keen on trying for so long.
I’m stubborn with my creativity so I was trying to do it alone working out what sands and moulds and melting points of metals.
Just bought the kit that you are working with. (With delft clay)
So so keen to try. Thanks for your tutorial, helping a lot!

Hi There. Very interested in the sand casting. I bought a heap of Lost wax casting equipment from a lady on Hindmarsh Island. Just need the vacuum pump. have all the other necessary gear but no Idea. Maybe the sand casting is a good place to start. Were would be the best place to get the flask and clay. AJS? Twin Plasa? I have quite a few small sapphires not suitable to cut but may be good for this style of casting.
I will have a look see if I can make on of you courses at the jam factory.

Hey Kirra! First off I think your videos are AWESOME! Secondly I'm just starting out and attempted my first cast yesterday (I knew it was going to be a fail half way into making the mold as there's a hole in the middle of the signet I was trying to cast but I'm a tryer 😂) when my mold was complete I realised the centre circle of the ring wasn't staying in place so I tried again with another ring (no hole) and the same thing happened? I'm not sure why as I'm chopping the clay up fine, packing it hard with a hammer and using talc 🤷‍♀️. Can you advise on what I'm doing wrong? ALSO is it possible to sand cast carvings with holes or do I have to drill in after? I feel like if anyone would have an optimistic answer it would be you! Thanks in advance! Nads x

Hi Kirra-lea, I'm just learning how to do this process at my work! Is it possible to use old scrap gold jewellery? I heard combining old jewellery might make the metal weaker? It's all 9carat but most likely mixed with different alloys.

    Hi
Doing it this way doesn’t this just make the ring thicker tho
I’m guessing if you are trying to stick to a certain weight light a wedding band
    This way is no good
    But just thought on
Couldn’t you use the ring sizes for making wedding bands

Thx for a helpful video! i'd like to ask some questions if you don't mind/ Yesterday i tried to melt 915 silver (it was an old spoon i don't need) in my crucible, and when silver starting to melt, the borax starting to melt too. and they kind of mixed with each other. do you know why that could happened? thx in advance.

    • @sandcasting_with_kirralea
      @sandcasting_with_kirralea  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

What you have described sounds odd. But borax is meant to melt when it gets hot, it turns into a liquid. When it cools it turns into a solid like glass.
