Highlander was amazing as a movie and the series. I have seen them all several times. Now when I'm dying from cancer it makes me want to believe that this can be really possible ... but no real life doesn't go this way and we need to live every day to the fullest. If I ever had one wish I would love to meet Adrian and Christopher and get to know them as they really are. "There can be only one" but I think it's great that the two of them really brought out their characters in amazing ways.
didn't realize how epic having a Queen theme song was back when I watched it as a kid. Started rewatching the series recently and still could remember the song, but when I saw it was Queen I got hyped lol
0 seconds ago I know Christopher and Adrian didn’t know each other prior to the “Pilot” episode. I also know most actors probably wouldn't look kindly on another actor inheriting their franchise. But the great writing was there! The acting talent was there! When you watch the two of them, you really believe they’ve been friends for years.
These 2 will always be iconic as Connor and Duncan MacLeod and no other will ever take that place. They have such great chemistry and comradery together, you can really believe they are cousins

Highlander was the best. Adrian Paul couldn't be more perfect for the role. I still watch the episodes often. My favorites were Revenge is Sweet starring Vanity and The wrath of kali. I'm a martial arts buff and I love sci-fi fantasy. Too bad Tessa left after the first season. Adrian Paul must have made a hell of a lot of money from the series it was in production for six seasons and in syndication for many years after that on multiple channels. I haven't seen it on tv in a while. The Queen music fit perfectly along with mystical piano playing during the scenes. I think Adrian Paul would be a great James Bond There can be only one :-)

It's great to hear, in a show so obviously spiritual and mystical, the people in it actually saying they wanted to take it in that direction. To me, the best heroes are willing heroes - so in real life, people who say "yeah, we wanted to do this" are simply heroic. Also if you connect the dots, with the music, the questions asked, the Chi etc - you will notice it has roots in real life, with these "immortals" being referred to in every spiritual tradition around the world (once in the show Duncan calls them "Fairies"). I think the world has been a little more introduced to them via the Lord of the Rings films, re: Elves (but those films are highly problematic because they invert the soul Alchemy, creating a TON of problems if you want to take it to the spiritual level). By the way - something even freakier: Tolkien was very into this special family he wrote about, who are the Lamberts (aka Lombards). In history class, somehow we always ended up talking about them at every possible turn, it got me wondering: what's up?!By the way, I am from Romania and people here were always really good at Martial Arts - in fact, the Thracian (Dacian) brotherhoods are (again) referenced in all the spiritual traditions around the world. "It's about CHI" - lol - yes, which means Balance. In the final season, Macleod realizes he was missing out on something, where this Balance was concerned.
Or when the series first came out I was hooked instantly having already like the movies. First thing I said was he looks like a young Sean Connery. You got to wonder was that done on purpose. Many people liked Sean Connery as the Spaniard in the first time in the movie and Adrian Paul is reminiscent of Connery. So by that token yeah he'd make a great Bond

Obviously Christopher is truly the artist and the one into the depth of character. Adrian seems to be more into the hard work. Both are great traits. But you can clearly see Christopher is the real artist. He digs deep into the characters.
Watching in 2019. Still absolutely blows me away that Lambert managed to pull all those fighting moves off SO well, all the while being blind as a bat without his glasses! No contact lenses, nothing...sure the second one was a absolute disaster, lol, but that wasn’t the actors fault. They did the best they could with a POS script. The original Highlander movie will always be a fav of mine, and let’s face it - having Queen doing their soundtrack for it was the smartest thing they ever could’ve done! 😉❤️

Haha the guest stars were great. 3-5 were the best IMO. 1 was alright considering it was just getting started. Actors were learning to mesh, etc. A few solid episodes though ( with Xavier especially). 2 was very dark . Started to fly off the hinges in 6. They did not create proper closure for the show. Still better than the newer movies though. :-D :-(
The show was amazing but it kinda died when they killed Richie, they could make so many more adventures with Duncan and Richie, and they could of explore more in the methos character as it was very interesting.
Very few actors understand their characters to such an extent. If you listen carefully, most actors have very little to say about the characters they portray. But these guys have just so much to relate, observations to make and experiences to recall. It's great to see.

Yes! I've had that same thought. Each week, a watcher pulls a file to research, and the life of the immortal in that file is told through the flashbacks reported by all of the watchers who have watched that particular immortal. I can't remember the episode, but I remember the Joe Dawson character saying that there have been watchers since Gilgamesh rose from his own death! That's what sparked the idea for me.

The first movie was a great introduction to the franchise but the series took it to another level and was incredible. I hope a remake is in the works, either TV shows or movies.

The Highlander storylines are some of my favorite sci fi stories of all time. It broke my heart in endgame when Connor gave his life to Duncan. I feel like a better person because of these tales. An immortal living as a normal person and dealing with life gave me hope for me living life and never giving up. No matter what. Thank you both for the great work and bringing your characters to life.
This is one of the best TV shows, that is so underrated. The story telling, the going through the ages of those stories, people that have come and gone and he has loved and it is very romantic in terms of what Mr. Lambert stated.
Adrian nailed it regarding how the Arc of Duncan's life with change if you watch the series adjust Duncan's life from beginning to end someone was very kind enough to put a four-part TH-cam video averaging three-and-a-half to four and a half hours for each part that covered Duncan's life from being to current with Tessa. Hopefully they will make a 5th including End Game because that truly wraps his time line
For me, I need to approach the series as an alternate universe. I really liked it for about five seasons but hated the film where Duncan (had no choice really to) take Connors head. The actual Highlander films though, to me only the first one exists.I saw it when it was brand new and I was impressionable at 16.The cinematography,score,and Queen songs were also outstanding.
Endgame retconned and ruined it for me and how the movies and series could of tied into the first movie if it was Connor who had won making him the last immortal after killing the Kergan. I mean it would of made sense that way... if it had been a full circle sort of thing. That way at least the series and Endgame could of been seen as prequels to the first movie..
I loved the first movie. The TV series is my all-time favorite. The cast was so great! I did hate to learn recently that actor Stan Kirsch had ended his own life.

Very cool interview. I'm a fan of highlander since i was a kid it was my favorite movie. I think Christopher Lambert in the first one was epic, he was perfect. For the TV series Adrian Paul was alse perfect, he did a great job and was good at the physical aspect of the role too. The show was good i loved it.
He could've been in Titanic to, he was actually up for Billy Zane's role. Instead he was in that horrible vampire movie. And that Tracker TV series where he was an Alien who took the form of an underwear model he saw on a billboard (I actually liked that show)

The series was pretty good in all, and I thought Endgame was the only really good sequel in the franchise. But yeah I agree, the first movie IS the franchise, and it was really meant to be a one-hit wonder. After all, There Can Be Only One.

I bought it begrudgingly to complete my collection but it was a real letdown. It was clear it was going to be the nail in the coffin. Looking forward to the reboot and I can only hope it can revive the franchise.
@@WesleyWyndam-Pryce The franchise needed to get to the time of 'the one' and I guess they wanted to handle it in a more interesting way than Highlander the movie where he tells Brenda he can hear everyone's thoughts. The source was an intriguing Garden of Eden type analogy with Anna being Eve, the winner being Adam and the Guardian being the serpent, or a Jesus story where the offspring of the last immortal and the woman being the messiah occurs. I thought it was well done albeit a bit rushed and cheesey in some instances. At the time of the source Duncan was the most powerful immortal that had ever existed after beating Jacob Kell who himself was the most powerful immortal ever, not counting the Guardian but that's a different being. I just wish Duncan got to show this by taking some more immortal heads, but oh well.
Adrian Paul should be a much bigger star than he is. Great actor.
They both should be. Lambert might be *slightly* more so, because of MK, but they're both *CRIMINALLY* underrated abd underused.

This is the most I've ever heard Lambert speak in an interview. I dig it. They are both very intelligent, while being boyishly funny.
You can't beat Highlander. It had great acting and fantastic stories. And you add Queen's music no tv show can beat it.

Yea the soundtrack is amazing. The simple piano style moments made a big impact. You can tell this is a European production. Very artistic.

Canada did some amazing series in the 90's with very low budget. I can tell them apart in the bat of an eye.

The first movie was a great introduction to the franchise but the series took it to another level and was incredible.
I hope a remake is in the works, either TV shows or movies.
silverbullnyc Did you catch that Zoroastrian episode, with Ahriman and stuff? I thought that was incredibly brave for that time on tv... although they have no idea who the real Ahriman is... lol.... which just goes to show this is all fiction - I guess they really, REALLY needed to find out where Macleod (of the clan NOT-Macleod...) "came from"... Gah, I'm such a spirituality junkie! :D (as for remakes, nope, sorry, I prefer real life these days, as in learning about Chi and all, for real... but amazing memories here).

The Highlander storylines are some of my favorite sci fi stories of all time. It broke my heart in endgame when Connor gave his life to Duncan. I feel like a better person because of these tales. An immortal living as a normal person and dealing with life gave me hope for me living life and never giving up. No matter what. Thank you both for the great work and bringing your characters to life.

This is one of the best TV shows, that is so underrated. The story telling, the going through the ages of those stories, people that have come and gone and he has loved and it is very romantic in terms of what Mr. Lambert stated.

Adrian nailed it regarding how the Arc of Duncan's life with change if you watch the series adjust Duncan's life from beginning to end someone was very kind enough to put a four-part TH-cam video averaging three-and-a-half to four and a half hours for each part that covered Duncan's life from being to current with Tessa. Hopefully they will make a 5th including End Game because that truly wraps his time line
My brother gave me a Highlander key chain 20 years ago. I have used it every day since.
The minor feuding in the comment section is quaintly amusing. I find both Lambert and Paul to be appealing in their own unique ways.
Please bring back Highlander to TV. 2018 sucks wind!

For me, I need to approach the series as an alternate universe. I really liked it for about five seasons but hated the film where Duncan (had no choice really to) take Connors head. The actual Highlander films though, to me only the first one exists.I saw it when it was brand new and I was impressionable at 16.The cinematography,score,and Queen songs were also outstanding.
Endgame retconned and ruined it for me and how the movies and series could of tied into the first movie if it was Connor who had won making him the last immortal after killing the Kergan. I mean it would of made sense that way... if it had been a full circle sort of thing. That way at least the series and Endgame could of been seen as prequels to the first movie..

I loved the first movie. The TV series is my all-time favorite. The cast was so great! I did hate to learn recently that actor Stan Kirsch had ended his own life.
What? When did that happen? That is terrible.
@@deborahhanna9126 Stan Kirsch died on Jan 11, 2020. The Los Angeles coroner ruled his death a suicide by hanging. Stan had suffered from pain caused by neck problems. Two surgeries did not provide any relief from the pain.

Very cool interview. I'm a fan of highlander since i was a kid it was my favorite movie. I think Christopher Lambert in the first one was epic, he was perfect.
For the TV series Adrian Paul was alse perfect, he did a great job and was good at the physical aspect of the role too. The show was good i loved it.

Lambert has no charisma, he was totally outplayed by Clancy Brown as the Kurgan. Adrian Paul is a much better hero actor

He could've been in Titanic to, he was actually up for Billy Zane's role. Instead he was in that horrible vampire movie. And that Tracker TV series where he was an Alien who took the form of an underwear model he saw on a billboard (I actually liked that show)

The series was pretty good in all, and I thought Endgame was the only really good sequel in the franchise. But yeah I agree, the first movie IS the franchise, and it was really meant to be a one-hit wonder. After all, There Can Be Only One.

That’s the 80’s for ya. Films that were meant to be one off’s creating entire franchises that includes sequels, live action and animated television spinoffs, comic books, novels and fan fiction stories. There can be only one indeed. 🤣
I didn't mind the Source, I think it's underrated. Endgame is still the best sequel though.
@@aaronbarlow4376 I was so eager to watch The Source that I got a leaked version. I was so disappointed I've never tried to re-watch it. I bought it begrudgingly to complete my collection but it was a real letdown. It was clear it was going to be the nail in the coffin.
Looking forward to the reboot and I can only hope it can revive the franchise.
@@WesleyWyndam-Pryce The franchise needed to get to the time of 'the one' and I guess they wanted to handle it in a more interesting way than Highlander the movie where he tells Brenda he can hear everyone's thoughts. The source was an intriguing Garden of Eden type analogy with Anna being Eve, the winner being Adam and the Guardian being the serpent, or a Jesus story where the offspring of the last immortal and the woman being the messiah occurs. I thought it was well done albeit a bit rushed and cheesey in some instances.
At the time of the source Duncan was the most powerful immortal that had ever existed after beating Jacob Kell who himself was the most powerful immortal ever, not counting the Guardian but that's a different being.
I just wish Duncan got to show this by taking some more immortal heads, but oh well.
