@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Does the A Team Blu-ray episodes have all of the original teasers promo and who will be releasing on both Blu-ray of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman Universal or Elephant Films
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Oh I have a 4k Blu-ray player will the A Team play on that
Great review! Magnum is my Go-to show when I just want to relax and watch something I already know is great. This set is a must buy for me! I'll use your link to pick this one up. Thanks for letting us know about this one!
Sweet, I am happy you are excited to get this Blu Ray Set. It will be a great addition to your TV series collection. Thanks for your support I appreciate it.
Best physical media channel
Thanks so much for your great comments, I love having such super fans like yourself, helps me to keep going and creating all this content.
100% true. This channel deserves so much more exposure. Very thorough!
About time! Lol! It's so encouraging and amazing how this show has been over for almost 40 years and is still so revered to this day! Goes to show that classics never die.
Brilliant review! Most comprehensive one I've ever watched for a box set. MP.I. deserves the love you have given it here. I'm off to click buy through your links. I've been holding off upgrading my DVD individual boxes here in the UK for a while.
I'm sure you get many requests, but I would love to see you do some more comparisons of sets available for such TV series as Miami Vice, Rockford Files, Columbo, Kojak, Hill Street Blues etc 😀
I appreciate your support & Thanks for your great comments. It’s a great Blu Ray Set of a great TV show and you will definitely enjoy it.
To give you a little background & as far as doing more TV series comparisons reviews, I always have some that are in the works currently but each of these TV series reviews take a lot more time to complete than Movie reviews do, that’s because I have a massive amount of content to watch and dig through in each TV series so I have to Test, Compile, Film, Edit & Complete each one so they take almost 3 weeks to complete for each TV series review. To give you a brief example, for just an average Movie Comparison Review those only take me roughly 3-4 days to Compile, Film, Edit and complete. So I am still working 2 full time jobs on top of this so I work non stop every day of the week to provide all this content for all of you to watch lol!!! I am working extremely hard to provide the best & most content I can.
Thanks so much for your support everything helps! I appreciate it.
Okay, I watched both reviews and have done some digging on other websites. I think I have summarized the differences below. I'm trying to decide which one to buy, and right now I'm leaning towards Fabulous Films.
Fabulous Films:
* Region B
* Season 1 episodes have original opening credits, not the ones with the Mike Post theme.
* The seven 2-hour episodes are in broadcast format, not broken into two 1-hour episodes.
* Season 3's Simon & Simon crossover episode is the standalone, not the cliffhanger with the second half on S&S.
* Season 7's Murder She Wrote crossover is the cliffhanger, with the MSW episode included in SD.
* Soundtrack is DTS-HD MA 2.0
Elephant Films:
* Region Free
* Season 1 episodes have original opening credits, not the ones with the Mike Post theme. The exception being the pilot (see next bullet)
* The seven 2-hour episodes have been split into their two 1-hour episode formats (the 2-hour versions aren't available with a French soundtrack)
* Season 3's Simon & Simon crossover episode is the standalone, not the cliffhanger with the second half on S&S.
* Season 7's Murder She Wrote crossover is the cliffhanger, with the MSW episode included in HD.
* Soundtrack is DTS-HD MA 2.0
Missing from both sets:
* The Simon & Simon crossover episode in cliffhanger format. Currently the only way to see both versions of this episode is to have the season 1 DVD set with the standalone episode, and season 3 DVD set with the cliffhanger and S&S episode.
* The Murder She Wrote crossover in standalone format.
* Montage during series finale end credits
If I captured everything correctly, Fabulous Films provides a better rendition of the original broadcasts. It has two Cons compared to Elephant; it is region locked and it lacks the Murder She Wrote episode in HD. Otherwise, the picture and audio quality appear to be the same.
Did I miss anything?
Thanks
So as I covered in my review the Fabulous Films Blu Ray Set of Magnum P.I. did not have as good of an audio mix & did not sound as clear or as good as the Elephant Films set did. There are several other things I covered in my review that are differences too. It also depends on if you already own a good Region Free Blu Ray Player or not because that’s a major added factor and cost. Elephant films Blu Ray set is better representation of the entire series episodes as one of the small examples of the Murder She Wrote Crossover being presented in the correct HD broadcast and not the edited down versions. As I covered there is more episode footage included in the Elephant Films set because they didn’t use the changed edited TV movies but all original footage. Overall as I explained in this review the Elephant Films Blu Ray set was the better overall option of the 2 Blu ray sets it had more love and care put into the production of the entire set that shows through more than the Fabulous Films set. Hope this helps you.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I want to make sure I'm following correctly, and since you have both versions, hopefully you can clarify it. From what I have read, the Fabulous Films set contains the 2-hour specials presented as single episodes, while the Elephant Films set presents them as two episodes each. Is that correct?
You mentioned "edited down versions". What was edited down? If you are referring to the TV movies, the TV movies are the original broadcast. Later, they were edited into multiple episodes for reruns.
Just looking to make the most educated purchase I can. I am a Magnum, P.I. fan and I'm looking for the set that most accurately depicts the original broadcasts.
Are you planning on reviewing the New Magnum P.I. set coming out from Mill Creek? I was disappointed with the I Dream of Jeannie release and hear only bad things about Mill Creek. But I have heard positive reviews for the new Magnum set. It has new extras and from what I hear the quality is really good. I really value your opinion and your extensive reviews and would like to hear your opinion on the set.
Check the community section here on my TH-cam Channel, that’s were I give a bunch of updates about reviews & things I am working on. Hope this helps! Make a comment on the post once you read it!
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Thanks for the update. I just read the update on the community section. I can't wait to see the comparisons.
So jealous, nice you have the series. Most series i only find on DVD with the subtitles in my language, non on Blu Ray.
Any plans to compare this to the newer Mill Creek Blu-Ray set?
This was a great review! This will be another purchase to make. I'm glad they included "Murder, She Wrote" in this set.
Thanks I appreciate it. It was a very nice TV series release again by Elephant Films and it was great they included the bonus episodes too.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I assume that since they included the Murder, She wrote episode that the magnum pi episode ends on the clift hanger and not the syndicated ending like the Fab Films edition had?
I love the cover much better than previous releases. Still patiently waiting for the Miami Vice blu-ray set review.
Thank you so much for this review!!! Magnum P.I. is one of my absolute favorite shows ever! I'm beyond elated that this is region-free!!!! I hope we get an A-Team region-free release someday soon. Also can't wait for MacGyver in a few weeks!

I'm happy that people that don't have a region-free player have access to Magnum PI in HD now and it sounds like better than my FF version. My poor wallet, im going to have to wait for that upgrade. 😢
Well, there's another purchase I have to make.
Sure thing, it’s well worth your money for this great 80s tv series fully remastered on Blu Ray.
Also, great review as always. Keep up the great work, best channel ever.
It's about time! LOL Seriously though I will be getting this because I wanted to know if it was region free and you finally answered my question. I like that it also includes the Murder She Wrote episode because even though I have that episode on my MSW bluray set, it's nice to have both parts on the same disc when I get this. Elephant Films is great! I just wish they would put out the last 6 seasons of Murder She Wrote to complete the series. It seems so unfair that they won't go back to it. I also hope A-Team will be region free too.
My wife and I have been enjoying this set! Still wish the 8 season box set was still available but the 2 box set is better then nothing and is better then the Mill Creek one. One thing I'm glad that Elephant Films is doing now is using the original English prints with the English credits in them like for this & the A-Team set I bought. The first thing I bought from Elephant Films was the Murder She Wrote set (Arabesque) now while it had the original English audio the credits were in French. Now for the record I don't have a problem with credits being printed in another language as long as I can hear the original English audio for which the TV series was filmed in, but I'm also glad that Elephant Films is now taking these extra steps to restore these American shows just as they were shown when they aired in the USA.
I watched the whole set and loved it! I do have a couple of nitpiks on this Elephant Films set though. First I wish they could have made up their minds on what language prints to use the opening credits on. I noticed on Seasons 1 to 4 they used the English credits which I liked, but when it gets to Seasons 5 to 8 the credits our in French. Now as I've said before I'm use to Elephant Films stuff having French credits and as long the audio is the original English I'm ok with it. I just felt they should have made up their minds on which prints to stick with is all. And lastly as I said in my last post while I was glad to have both Novel Connection & Magnum on Ice together on the same disc I was disappointed that Novel Connection was the syndicated resolved ending version where the case is solved because when Magnum on Ice is played storywise it is confusing. I'm putting more of the blame on Universal then Elephant Films because since they gave EF the rights to both Magnum & Murder She Wrote for them to release then they should have given them the right print for this 2 part crossover story. I know the other bluray companies like Fabulous Films & Mill Creek have the same print of Novel Connection but I would have thought Elephant Films would have had the original ending to that since it included Magnum on Ice. Again I put more of the blame on Universal then I do with Elephant Films. Sadly it seems the only way you can still see the original Novel Connection ending is if you have the original Magnum P.I. DVDs by Universal. This is still a great Blu-Ray set and I'm sure this still better then Mill Creek's release.
i m french a buy this blu-ray, it s a masterpiece
@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Great Video ! can i ask you if you have some confrontation informations by Elephant e Fabolous vs the new american one Milk Creek entertainment? do you know the Region of the Milk Creek Editions? thanks
BTW Did Elephant Films ever respond to your e-mail question about Amazon being out of stock with their Magnum box set?
Yes, they said they had a bunch more on order but hadn’t received anymore yet & said they would update me once they received more stock but because of all the worldwide supply shortages they said they don’t have an ETA. This is exactly what’s been happing with review copies from companies as well it’s been making it very tough on me even getting reviews done because a lot of the time they aren’t sending out review copies because they don’t have any in. So it just been a big mess this year!
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia It's been a long time since Amazon had this. I wish EF would get copies soon. I'm holding out for their Magnum over Mill Creek's because I know their version would be better.
Could you possibly post a reply with details about the running time of the first episode(s) in each of these releases?
When originally aired, it was 1h 33m 33s and did not include opening credits.
The US DVD release broke it into two parts, but did not edit the content of the episode.
Sadly, the US blu-ray release that came out today edited a total of 8m 28s out of the first episode, in addition to breaking it into two parts and tacking on opening credits that were not there previously.
Outstanding comparison between these two great releases I have the Favourite Film release and I am very pleased with it and also the fact that it has the same picture Quality as the Elephant version . I love this show and have been watching it from the beginning in early 1981 loved the original jazzy score used for the first 10 or 11 episodes and believe it or not it took me a few episodes to get used to the newer one which is of course now considered a classic TV theme and rightfully so. The show’s characters had real heart and according to Larry Manetti in his book they got along well off screen he does state that one year Tom gave the main cast each a brand new Porsche. I read that there was a third box set released in March this year from Mill Creek with 6 or 7 less discs and some people have complained of compression issues and have also stated some episodes are the cut syndicated versions the extras look good though and include 2 Rockford Files episodes with Tom Selleck guest starring wonder if these are in 1080P . Would you consider reviewing this set in the future ? I immediately subscribed after watching you fantastic comparison between the Universal Monster 4K and Blu Ray sets love your work cheers Carl Australia .
I'm on Season 7 now. I still love the set but I have to admit when it gets to the Magnum/Murder She Wrote crossovers I was a little disappointed that Novel Connection was the syndicated resolved ending which to me makes no sense since Magnum on Ice is the next episode. I would have thought it would have been the original To Be Continued ending since the set had both parts to the story. To be fair, I'm guessing this is more Universal's goof then Elephant Films.
Quick question: Like with the Murder She Wrote set, does this have French subtitles you can't get rid of. For example showing a headline from a newspaper then putting the translation in French print? BTW Just curious of the 2 packaging from Elephant Films which do you like better the old 2 case set or the new boxed per season set?
I answered this question already in this review video, but again as far as I can tell from watching through it I didn’t see any burned in subtitles at all. Just like the Baa Baa Black Sheep Blu Ray set I also reviewed there weren’t any that I could see at all in this new Magnum P.I. Blu Ray Set.
I have been talking with Elephant Films a lot since I started exclusively reviewing their releases & working with them, so I shared with them that I like it best when there aren’t any burned in subtitles at all and so far each new release they have sent me & I have gotten lately from them hasn’t had any.
I probably like the individual cases a little better, but they both have the same discs so it’s just the packaging they come in that’s different.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Oh ok must of not understood what you were saying in the review. And I'm assuming since it is the French release you have to select the english language before playing the disc. :)
Do you know if the upcoming US Blu Ray release would be Region Free? I originally bought the Fantastic Films version and bought a !UK blu ray player to watch it on. Now that player stopped working, and my new player is Region A, but I’d prefer the set to be Region Free so that I don’t have to worry about watching it in the future should I get another region B player. Also, would you likely buy and review the upcoming US release? If so, I’ll wait for your review as they are always excellent! Thanks!
So if you have watched this video this set I reviewed is REGION FREE. As far as the Mill Creek release it will have less Blu Rays than this Elephant Films set that I reviewed & this set had the lowest amount of discs allowed for the content without causing any compression issues or any banding. So the bad news is that I don’t see the Mill Creek release being any better than this Elephant Films Blu Ray Set of Magnum PI based on the mill creek set having lower disc count & the data they have released. So your best bet as of right now with all the available data is this Elephant Films Blu Ray Set that I reviewed in this video. If you want more information on this set make sure to watch the whole video review. Hopefully this helps out!
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Many thanks for your comprehensive reply which is very helpful. Unfortunately for me the Elephant Films version is hard to come by now. I’m happy with my Fantastic Films version, but just can’t play it anymore! I may wait and see what reviews of the Mill Creek release are like, although yes, disappointed to learn it has 1 less disc. Thanks again!
The Mill Creek set will be Region A locked. All lof their releases are.
I love Magnum, but it sounds like there's not enough here to get me to upgrade from the Fabulous Films set. An HD episode of Murder, She Wrote and DTS audio aren't that much of an improvement.
What would get me to upgrade would be the original broadcast version of resolution rather than the syndicated version, but I can't find anyone to tell me whether the French set has that. Does the final episode feature the montage and extended credits, or is it the same edited-fot repeats version offered by Universal in every territory?
Are the crew credits and end credits displayed in French or English? Got kojak which was an elephant films release a decade ago and they were in French
I ordered this new Magnum set (via your link) on October 4th, and it arrived today (October 13)! From France to Texas in just 9 days! Wow. Anyway, I just watched the first 2 episodes, and the picture and sound quality are outstanding. Did your review copy come with booklets? The one I got has season summary and episode guide booklets included with each season. It's all in French, but the pictures in them are nice! Okay... bring on The A-Team Complete Series! :)
Do the opening titles for each episode say Magnum PI or Magnum L'Integrale? Not the menu, but the opening titles within the episode.
@@gaozhi2007 There's an option to watch the episodes in French or as the original version. I've only watched the originals, and the opening titles all say Magnum P.I. so far.
@@JJ_Lloyd thanks for your response!
@@gaozhi2007 Hey there. I'm in the middle of Season 5 right now, and some of the opening titles in the original English versions are the French titles for some reason. The dialogue and closing credits are all in English... just the opening text credits are in French. I guess someone goofed.
@@JJ_Lloyd Oh, hey thanks for the update. Have you finished the set yet? I wanna know any issues with Elephant so I can choose between this and Fabulous. I don't want the Mill Crap version.
Maybe I missed it but it seems like there is no mention that the bigger Elephant box with each individual season might have a booklet for each season (one comment here mentions their copy did) but no information on whether the smaller Elephant box made of two big blue cases also includes them. At the moment the prices are the same in Euros but depending on where you want them shipped, there is a 15-20% price difference and while I'm already wondering I can store such a big set, knowing if the smaller set is missing the booklets, might make the decision easier.
I keep endlessly waiting for a proper U.S. release of this show on Blu-ray. Even with the remake still airing, Universal seems totally disinterested in releasing this domestically. Perhaps this version from Elephant Films is as close as we will ever get.
Same here I've been waiting for a few years now. Mill Creek is releasing a Blu-ray set soon. I already pre-ordered it on Amazon.
Thoughts on the upcoming Mill Creek release? Same scans? Thx.
Definitely not the same remaster or scans these scans that were done on this remastered Blu Ray set from Universal & Elephant Films are exclusive to this company & set.
I also shared a little bit about what I already know about disc count & the mill creek release is already cutting the disc count down from this set that I already reviewed & that will cause massive issues with the image quality of each episode. You can’t cut out even 1 Blu Ray disc because of the episode length & amount of episodes without causing banding, heavy compression, loss of clarity, loss of color, blocking & possible interlacing if they try to cram all this content into less discs. This has always been the problems with Mill Creek releases they try to cut corners so much that they don’t work on remastering TV series properly & then try downgrading the image quality to cram & shove it onto as few discs as they can to save themselves a little money & the releases always end up low quality or sub par at best.
Knowing already how many discs they are using makes it easy at least because it tells us that this set of Magnum P.I that I reviewed in this video will still be the ultimate way to watch & own Magnum P.I. On Blu Ray with the best possible visual & audio quality.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Thx! Isn’t the studio: e.g., Sony, (or in this cases CBS) responsible for the remastering?
.
@@jeffzest8393 NO, Universal Studios owns the rights to the Magnum P.I. TV Series. Each company that wants to release this show has to buy the rights to remaster & release this show from Universal.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia So Mill Creek remasters? For “I Dream of Jeannie” some of experts like yourself said problem may have been wrong scans sent to Mill Creek.
@@jeffzest8393 I never said Mill Creek got wrong scans or even actually tried to remaster I Dream of Jeannie, they definitely did not remaster that show at all and basically did a very similar to SD on Blu Ray transfer only. They did nothing to help improve the image quality & compressed the image so far that is just barely above DVD & SD quality with horrible interlacing. No matter what scans they were sent for I Dream of Jeannie Mill Creek made the choice to interlace & compress the images so badly that they completely ruined that Blu Ray release all on their own. If they would have even taken the HD scans & done nothing but put them straight to Blu Ray without interlacing & compressing them they would have looked decent. But because they downgraded the image & audio so that they could shove double the episodes per disc that should have ever been put on each disc they ruined any chance it would look decent, Mill Creek is the one to blame solely for that debacle & horrible release.
Is there going to be A team Blu-ray review next ?
But yeah… can’t help commenting again. Wondering what the downsides are, if any, to picking up the one on Amazon released in 2022… (or Barnes & Noble, wherever)
I love Magnum. I bought the UK Fabulous films set a while back, had them all on DVD before that. I also bought a Region B blu-ray player. I'm glad I did because now I'm not as afraid to buy hard to find stuff that's only on region B. So... the unbelievable happened and Mill Creek released it in the US - and even more unbelievable people say it has English subtitles. Are you going to review the new Mill Creek set at some point? Oh wait looks like you have some comments addressing this below...
The Episode "Magnum On Ice" crossover episode is included on the season 8 Magnum P.I From Fab films it's under special features
As I explained in this review you don’t get the Murder She Wrote Episode part 2 fully restored & remastered in full 1080p HD on the fabulous Films set. Also the Fabulous Films Set has the severely edited down and missing several scenes with the incorrect part 1 episode that wraps everything up in only 1 episode so that’s why that’s a big difference because you don’t get the full episodes or the Murder She Wrote Episode restored and fully remastered in HD, so there’s some big differences between both sets.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Ok sorry i did not catch that.
@@studmonkey0684 Yah, I also found out from another Subscriber that several episodes in the Faboulus Films Blu Ray Set have been edited down by a few minutes too. They say that Faboulus Films mentioned they made some errors on their Magnum P.I Blu ray series, Hulk & Ateam Blu Ray Sets. So far after comparing each Elephant Films Complete Series Blu Ray Sets to Fabulous Films Complete Series Blu Ray Sets, Elephant Films has won and come out ahead. Especially with the Hulk Set, Fabulous Films really messed that release up badly.
I am very interested when I get the time to dig into & do the A-team Blu Ray comparisons and see how those turn out too.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia The epsiodes edited on the Fabulous Films set were ones that where Universal provided the syndication version of episodes. Specifically the Simon & Simon cross over (Ki'is Don't Lie) was presented as syndication version where the story concluded in that episode so there was no need to bundle the other series episode with them for repeats or releases. Although Novel Connection has a similar syndication version that wraps the story up, this wasn't on the Fabulous disc and the Murder, She Wrote conclusion was only in SD.
What I would like to know is what Elephant have done with the final episode, Resolutions. The transmitted episode ends with a long montage and then extended end credits with clips from previous episodes before Magnum turns the tv off. Fabulous had a syndication version again that omitted these. Does the Elephant release have the final montage?
Another question is the 2 part crossover with Simon & Simon also included?
No, that’s not included on either set because the rights are owned by another company & they have not released or remastered it in HD & have not authorized anyone to use it.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Oh well as long as both parts with Murder She Wrote are on there I'm happy!:)
You know it's kind of fustraightening. Everytime I want to order the box set Amazon is out of stock on it. LOL
Yah, it’s due to manufacturing supply issues. Every time it comes back in stock it’s been selling out almost right away. They have been having a very hard time keeping it in stock, so hopefully there will be more available soon.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Just out of curiosity do you know why they don't sell season 4 on Amazon? I find it odd they sell the other seasons separately except 4.
Are the menus in English or French?
As I was covering in this review, the menus are primarily French with some English mixed in and very simple & easy to navigate and understand.

@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I just received the set and I was wondering if I had to change the Language everytime or if there was a way I could have it automatically choose the English track. Thank you.
@@Brandon.S.Brooker at the main menu before you select the play all option, you select the English language option first then select play all. All of these TV series releases I have reviewed from ElephantFilms have the same options. Hope this helps.
No german synchro available yet 😭
Looks like Mill Creek is coming out with a set March 22, 2022
I was notified several weeks ago & I have already been asked about it a lot lol!!!! If you look through these comments you will see my response to a few people asking about it & you will also see my response about the bad news about that upcoming set from Mill Creek & how they already notified about the disc count & how it’s already too low a disc count for this series. Let me know if you find all the comments!
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia got it. Thanks! Bummer.
A-TEAM next please
Wait… there’s another one released in 2022… Help? Haha
Oh no mill creek entertainment now.
Yah, I got notified a while ago, the sad thing is I already know the disc count & Mill Creeks upcoming set will have less Blu ray discs than this release, and already this Magnum P.I Blu Ray release I reviewed you could not have cut down on any of the number of discs without severely degrading the image quality due to length of episodes. So it does not say anything good about that Mill Creek release at all due to them already cutting down & using less discs to cram all the episodes onto.
This remastered Blu Ray release I reviewed in this video will still be the ultimate & the absolutely best image quality & the best way to own Magnum P.I Remastered on Blu Ray.
