Lori, I found a cool hack for you if you use oil to grease a pan. Clean an empty catsup bottle, if you have one, and put oil in it. Great way to control how much you want to use
Thanks for posting 2 videos this week. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you prepare your meals for the week, band I hope you can continue to post more for us. Great.
A onion cutting skill UTube taught me recently- take off the outer dry brown onion skin but not all of it. Slice the root end of the onion to make a flat surface. Place the onion flat surface down. Starting at the top of the onion make slits in it from just below the top to the bottom. Put the onion on its side and firmly hold it together with one hand. Using the other hand slice into small slices. Remove the rest of the brown skin and the slick inner translucent skin. Then chop off the still intact top of the onion. You will have a fully chopped onion with minimal tears. I am 73 and wish I had known this trick the past 60 plus years I have been chopping onions. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️👍🏻😉Thanks for your videos! God bless!
If your vacuum bag is long enough, you can thaw it, take out one filet, reseal it, then refreeze it. I do it all the time with steak or ground beef. Or, if you plastic wrap both filets before bagging and freezing, you only have to thaw enough to separate them, then reseal and refreeze.
I will admit, we typically only make one ‘real’ meal a day. Otherwise most of our other meals are snacks and far less substantial. Rowan will definitely be helping us with our eating habits in the coming months.
What a great video, made even better with Rowan. This is the first time in my life to see anybody cook with grouse meat. I thought your tacos looked delicious, as did every meal. I hope you found that lid!
Next time you need to cut an onion…wet a paper towel and wring out some of the water…place the napkin near where you are cutting the onion and no more tears❤
Nice to see what you eat. Do you just have leftovers or sandwiches for lunch? Breakfast? I know Rowan has to eat ...have you ever baked the acorn butternut squash? You cut in half and clean the seeds then place a pan, fork them and salt pepper and a pad or 2 of butter. Bake until soft and serve by scooping out and like mash potatoes. That is how my grandma did them. Was always on the table for thanksgiving
Lori, I cut my acorn squash in half, take seeds out, drizzle olive oil and butter in center with s&p, sometimes cinnamon and bake. No peeling, scoop it out in chunks or mash. Your squash are nice and big. Steak looks delicious. Does grouse taste like chicken? i love salmon with dill on it. So many versions of lasagna, and yours looks great. Tacos look good too. You are in the middle of no where and are making delicious, healthy meals for your family. Nice video!!
If you guys want I can send you a few jars of our wild game, poultry and fish dry seasoning. Not sure how it would taste with red salmon since we developed it for mostly white fish like sea trout, snapper and flounder we catch here along the Gulf. Let me know in a reply and I’ll have it shipped out.
I Like the editing for the lasagna meal and lasagna looks amazing. I love lasagna. You’ve made some great meals love watching these types of videos they give me ideas.
You can clean or mostly clean old Sharpie writhing off canning lids using alcohol. I use swabs they sell in the pharmacy to clean my lids and vacuum bags I reseal.
I loved this video - seeing what a weekly meal looks like. So pleased to see Rowan eating the same meals as yourselves. She’s such a happy baby ❤️Healthy, simple meals. We got spoilt this week - 2 videos. Thanks for sharing. 🇦🇺 fan
we use sprouts and micro greens for a fresh taste in winter. yogurt is very versatile, breakfast and sour cream, ect. You guys do great. it is a learning curve.
Lori put a toothpick in your mouth while chopping onions. You will not be crying. I learned this a long time ago. I really enjoyed watching the meal preps for daily use 👏👏👏👏👏. Baby girl sure is growing fast
It looks like you guys were making burritos the tacos are hard shell or fryed U shape corn tortillas and burritos are wrapped around tortillas. Enjoy your meal. Bon appétit.
You could build a green house to plant stuff like turn ups radishes beets carrots squash cucumbers zucchini peppers tomatoes things like that in the greenhouse that take warm hot weather that you have you can stay early & that needs a little bet of a longer growing season also potato Broccoli cauliflower
Lori, just a quick easy recipe you might like for salmon, put in a frying pay with a little oil, and put salmon skin side down, place slices on butter on top of each filet, then sprinkle dry Italian salad dressing mix over it pretty liberal, let it cook until you see it's only about 1/4 inch from being cooked through, flip each filet over into the yummy butter sauce that has melted off and let it cook only about 3 minutes to finish it off and flip it back over, and serve. Skin is actually pretty good as it's gotten crispy during the frying. But if you don't like it, it comes off very easy. Was nice getting two video's this week. Thanks for taking us along on your week of meals.
I’ve been thinking about trying to do a crispy skin version of salmon - usually we peel it off and feed it to the dog. I’ll have to try your recipe and see how we like it. Anything with butter is usually good!
Hello lorri well that was a nice surprise 2 videos I love the video and the different meals for each night actually I felt hungry just watching you prepare those Lovely dishes and very healthy variety you are looking after your family and that's all that matters and doing a very good job bless you and a big hug to Rowan eating her bread and butter was a joy to watch good little appertite love to you all.👍👍👶❤❤❤
This was such an interesting and fun video. The meals looked really good, fresh and healthy. I am enjoying your channel very much. Thanks for sharing your life.
10:50 what is that against the wall? Can't decide if it's a branchy burl or a burly branch, or if I'm just seeing things😵💫 Anywho... I just love sticks (and stones)🤩😆
I had not ever seen moose meat or grouse prepared. Not sure i could eat tho. U also mentioned moose heart. Did u mean 'road kill' literally? Where is your beautiful fur baby? I admire all you do to live a remote life in Alaska. You r a smart, efficient and dedicated young woman.
Lauren Hamm another AK TH-camr, ate undercooked moose meat with horrific consequences. I mention so you do not think some random is being mean. Just trying to help. 8f you develop any symptoms, especially little girl, get to medical ASAP. Not worth risks in my opinion. Eating undercooked moose can cause trichinosis, a parasitic disease caused by roundworms. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, muscle pain, and a rash. If left untreated, trichinosis can be fatal. How soon after exposure do symptoms appear? Symptoms usually develop 8-15 days after eating the infected meat, with a range of 5-45 days.
It’s is possible but it’s extremely rare in moose. This is typically only a worry with meat eaters like bears. The only way a moose would contract that is to eat vegetation that had scat on it from an infected animal. Either way like you said as long as it is not undercooked and the internal temperature reaches 160F it is safe to eat.
We try to make portions that don’t leave leftovers, if there are leftovers (such as the stew and lasagna this week) we have them for lunch the next day.
In the winter we usually use the wood stove (and we love it!), however right now we are in the middle of a project inside the house so there is more space around the propane stove as well as it usually cooks our food a bit quicker and more consistently while we may be distracted. We’ve considered showing wood stove cooking only in a future video.
Just wondering, with the small house you have and so much stuff on the floor, where does your daughter play and learn to walk? Also how do you keep her away from everything that can hurt her . Also where do you guys shower? I am really wondering I just can not understand how you guys do all of this
She is in the living room area and there is a gate to keep her from the wood stove. Typically everything is not piled in the middle of the floor, but everything is pulled away from the wall currently working on the tongue and groove.
Seriously!! I am sure that Lori and Cody know how to watch their child as I know coming from cabin life myself. Children learn very quickly. Wonderful job Lori and Cody.
Kudos to you and Cody. Your daughter looks very well taken care of and happy. Keep doing what you’re doing and ignore others who think they know your life. You are hard workers and excellent parents giving your daughter her best life! Be happy.
@@MaxineManion-hk9xd I don't think it was asked in a meaningful spirited way. I'm much older than Lori and Cody my tiny grands keep me on my toes and I have wondered multiple times how they accomplish what they do. I'm not thinking negatively but more from the point of view that I need to learn to be more thankful and not grumble about my small home etc...
Please I’m trying everything in me not to buy the cast iron sheet pan and the first thing I see is it right here. I just got the 17’ family saying treat it like ur sheet pan. I also would love the casserole one.
We do keep seeds to grow our own food. We have a large tote full of seeds for the coming growing season and don’t have a need to keep more right now so a tasty snack it is.
I really like your show. Y’all do a lot of canning & butchering of animals so there is sharp knives. Glass jars that could cut her. That little girl could get to. She goes to be crawling if not all really. For the safety baby girl and gets bigger Y’all could put like half wall on the side of the kitchen where the stairs go up to the bedroom to keep the sweet ❤baby girl out of the kitchen while you’re cooking. The other side you can put a gate so you can go in and out. I know how it is when your cooking. But when your canning she doesn’t need to any where near the kitchen. Even though I know you’re very wonderful caring parents & but a accidents can happen in a matter of minutes and you live so far out. She will learn to play with herself maybe get her some learning toys like the being number & abc blocks or toys to start teaching her schooling even though she’s young is never to young
Lori, I found a cool hack for you if you use oil to grease a pan. Clean an empty catsup bottle, if you have one, and put oil in it. Great way to control how much you want to use
Great video Lori! I cooked like that everyday for 20 years while my kids were growing up. They loved goulash(MN)
Enjoyed your video on the new site "Remote Life Unscripted". Hope this means we'll get to see even more videos!
Thanks for posting 2 videos this week. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you prepare your meals for the week, band I hope you can continue to post more for us. Great.
All of the meals looked delicious and healthy. Love hearing the baby chatting and playing. Thank you for sharing.
Lori, looks like you are a great cook! Everything looked delicious. Love that Rowen gets what you are having

Awesome meals. I would boil the lasagne noodles beforehand. Otherwise they suck up all the moisture and leave lasagne a bit dry.
Now the noodles are made to be done with a wetter sauce to compensate for that. Then you let it sit covered for about 25 min when done.
Lori thank you for sharing. I love that you are putting out a great meal with what you have on hand. Good for you. ✌️🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️
You three eat very well ! Love Rowan in the background waving, chatting, and enjoying herself brought a smile to my face.

Our breakfasts and lunches are pretty sparse if we have one at all.
Cool! Looks good

The grouse is the texture of chicken breast but is extremely soft and tender. (Unless over cooked) It’s a very mild flavor, maybe slightly gamey.
I think I might order the set of knives and your meals looked tasty, God bless your family!

Great meals!! If you can your salmon, you can skip the pin boning processing.
We have a hard time eating or canned salmon. It is not nearly as good as the frozen fillets in our opinion.
Next time you cook them squash try it with butter in the middle with salt and pepper.
You all are doing some good eatin'!

Impressed on how much you've accomplished in the time I've started watching.

If you freeze your onion just a bit you won't tear up as much when you cut it.
Food looked delicious x x and a very cute baby x x ❤
That steak looks pretty yummy. Squash too.
Ok. Rowan(not sure of spelling) is my absolute favorite..lol
I’ve never had acorn squash need to try, do you ever stuff it? Would be good

Ribs - When I think ribs its BBQ pit and Stubbs bourbon an hickory sauce

Do you save seeds out of veg to plant like the Acorn squash our any kind of squash or Zucchini that can be saved over the two months or canned
I have saved seeds in the past, we have plenty of seeds for our coming garden season though so the tasty snack is preferred.
They pasta sauce that you can can and use
you guys. should cook more on your wood stove
