  • This review is hopefully clearly not sponsored and covers some new things that other review videos haven't. I've had the TK-01 for well over a year now and this is my take on it at this time. I've started with the ugly because I know that's why you're really here :)

Please don't take this wrong but you are giving people the wrong impression. Any super auto machine is going to require frequent almost daily maintenance. If you want little to no maintenance buy a Keurig. As for as the drip tray common sense dictates that hot water coming in contact with any dairy product especially milk = sour milk. If you are letting hot water mixed with milk stay sitting in that tray until it's full enough to pop that warning button then that is on the user. For reference, I have owned a restaurant since 1986 & have not experienced the horror stories from others of mold in our ice machine, coke machine. For one simple reason maintenance & sanitation. As far as the TK-01 these entry level machines are entry level for a reason.

Hello! I specifically said, "The machine in general requires a lot of cleaning and maintenance if you want to keep it working well and sanitary. It makes really good coffee, so it's not that big of a deal, but there's definitely more to it." I also said to keep up with the regular maintenance to combat the mold and stated what the brand recommends via their website. However, I stand by my statement that grounds going everywhere outside the spent grounds bin IS a design flaw as well as having moisture build up in an area that has no way to dry out, which together causes mold. Ideally, people would clean up the grounds every day, but that's not a feasible reality for most individuals with busy lives and considering the intricacies of the machine's interior, there's no way to get every ground. Even if they did, that still leaves the issue of moisture. As for the drip tray, I don't consume any dairy--I use soy milk--so I imagine it would be much worse for all who do. What you said is common sense however, that is feedback for the brand, again. The red stopper was specifically designed to show users that it's time to empty the tray. It seems they didn't do enough testing to understand the user experience of emptying the tray when the stopper pops up. They should have made the tray smaller. Like I said in the video, I think they imagined a bigger drip tray would be beneficial by requiring less frequent work for users.
I stated multiple times that it is a great coffee machine from a well-organized brand with professional, informed employees. I think most people can observe my experience and decide for themselves if my experiences would translate to theirs, exactly as you did.

It takes a good amount of time for mold to grow. Clean your machine daily.

I had 35 dollar Walmart expresso machine for over 6 years, then decided , the time has came for something better . Got some fancy machine (don't even remember its name now) from Sears (spend over 500$ back then) . But returned it . The coffee it made, had me question my life choices , it was so bitter.
Bought Keurig machine, it did not have milk steamer (was not happy) but those capsules had variety of options, so sticked with it for a while.
Then one beautiful morning, when I was dying for coffee , someone turn on stove and forgot to turn it off, while machine was staying nearby. Since it was plastic on the side it melted.
So, I went back to Walmart and bought mr. coffee again.... temporarily .. it been 5 years now , it makes perfect espresso, steamer works, no mold, little tray, no heigh maintenance, easy to clean...
Been looking for new espresso maker , want to go fancy, but after seeing all kinds of different reviews, I ask myself why?....
Greatly appreciate your time and effort.

You can turn off the beeping sound in the settings menu. I had my machine for three years, and yes weekly cleanings are a must.

I’ve had my Tk1 for about two years now. The first purchase broke down within 100 coffee cups. The milk stopped working. Good thing I purchased the extended warranty for the machine. After going back and forth with the customer service they finally let me send the machine for maintenance. They fixed the issue (took a month and I was without a coffee machine during this time) after the machine was fixed about a month later the same issue happened. I emailed them again and asked what my other options are and if they can send me a new machine. I paid $$$ to get the new machine sent to me and returned the broken one. Now that I have the new TK1 after about 100 cups of normal coffee making it broke again 😂 and this time the same issue “milk won’t work” also the little hose inside the coffee machine ripped in half …now my 2nd machine only makes americano 😂 I love the machine look and that’s why I keep being loyal knowing very well that it doesn’t last a year without braking. I’m on the preorder for the TK2 but I’m not having too high hopes for that machine too

I had heard about the mess this machine leaves with grounds going everywhere and the drip tray. I opted to purchase the Spinn and what a great machine!!! you can program the Spinn to the strength of your pour along with the measurement of how much water. It is totally opposite of this machine so far as cleaning and keeping grounds intact and easily to dispose. I also began to use the App on the Spinn which is really cool! I'll put a cup under the spout in the evening before bed and when I wake up I grab my phone off the nightstand and enter the drink I want made. Generally a double shot of espresso. By the time I get to the kitchen my drink is poured and steaming hot! The spinn will let you know when you are needing to empty the drip tray and the used grounds. Very easy and clean. Spinn also holds 2 pounds of beans in the hopper. I am a coffee fanatic and don't mind paying more money for exceptional and great machines. The Spinn in my opinion makes just as good of coffee or espresso as my commercial $3000 machine in just 25 seconds with one tenth of the hassle and cleaning. Also just an FYI, my brother has the Spinn as well and had it almost two years and used it everyday along with his kids and wife. Ran thousands of cups through it. It finally quit on him. He called Spinn and gave them his credit card and they charged $200 for a total rebuild of the machine and because he kept the original boxing the sent him prepaid shipping labels and he had the machine 10 from the day he sent out. Their customer service is fantastic and yes you get to talk to a real person and have your problem resolved.

Everything said here makes it an absolute no for me. Who needs all these pieces and work to get a decent coffee - and especially for that kind of money. I also prefer managing my frothed milk vs. the way this thing sets up the milk distribution. I'm a little surprised that they let this hit the market with such issues and how overall cumbersome it is to use. "mold" - a killer for me but I was already out in the first minute or two. Thanks for doing this video!

Maybe ours is leaking or creates excessive moisture. Even without grounds it starts to smell moldy when the door is left closed all the time. And thanks!

@@draybieApparently, it has a lot to do with the humidity in your home. I saw that in another video. It is gross though. I was worried it was going to make me sick the mold was so bad despite very frequent cleaning. I now dump my grains daily and leave the container out to dry. Kind of annoying but no more mold.

I loved my TK01 (while it lasted). BUT Please Beware, guys!!!!! I have had TK-01 for 2 years now. Currently sitting on my countertop broken down. The first time it broke down after 7 months of daily use. I do take care of proper maintenance. They serviced it and sent it back the service process took a little over a month. At that time I subscribed for Mulberry coverage as suggested by the TerraKafe service center folks. This year when it broke down again I started the repair process. It's been more than a month and my claim has not been approved yet. God knows when will the machine be repaired. It is highly frustrating.

Everything mentioned in this video is 100% true. The slimy part is bang on. And the coffee ground is all over the place by the time you try to empty it there will be a layer under the catch bin. Also if your machine flips shut because of some issue and you restart it. It will start the cycle all over again. It will regrind the beans which results in a lot of wastage.

Same issues.Mine has been broken forever. Customer service no longer answers the phone at TK. Mulberry doesn’t answer the phone either and you must communicate via email. It literally says expect a 15 day response delay in their acknowledgement email. Ridiculous! I love my machine but everything you and the creator said is true. Great highs with this machine but ridiculous lows too. I suppose you win some, you lose some.

No response from Mulberry. TK finally sent me a new refurbished unit. I have no intention to ever use Mulberry again. We were without a functioning unit for 6 or more months. I suggested that TK reconsider their association with that warranty company. I hope your issue resolved.

@@Yalebulldog99 Issue resolved. Mulberry responded, and the machine was sent to TK. They fixed it quickly this time. So, after almost 4 months of loss of service, I can now get my coffee again. All good if the ends good. However, If this machine breaks again, I will throw it.

Thinking you can work with moist, warm coffee grounds on a daily basis and not have regular maintenance requirements to abate mold is not being realistic. Any means used to make coffee has the potential for mold and all the other icky things mentioned in the video. If you are making coffee now, you are dealing with the maintenance (probably throwing out grounds daily) Any machine will have the same issues. The problem just moves to different locations. You still have to deal with it.
