@thestonecircle I was thinking with a white one, could make a rustic stain effect on it for a tunic look in a very anachronistic viking kit haha. The black has became my go to workout shirt already.
After my first week trying out the program I decided to jump from a 100lbs sandbag to a 120lbs and maaaaan does it feel like if I added 100 more pounds. Its great, already loving it. Will let you know how I feel after the my first deload week.

Thank you and HECK YEAH! I just use play sand from the hardware store, but you can use other stuff too if you need to! When I got pictures for the book up in the mountains I didn't want to travel with all that sand, so I just brought the empty bag and filled it with dirt haha, it worked great! I read top soil is supposed to be roughly 40% the weight of sand, so I think it's a great option for filling empty space if needed
@@thestonecirclesounds about right, working construction for so long, and specifically from digging and backfilling trenches/loading trucks I can say with certainty an equal volume of top soil is way lighter than the same volume of sand
One of my two sandbag exercises is ground to shoulder press and a floppy bag is awesome for my grip and arms in general. The full body engagement of maneuvering it feels incredible.
Thanks for highlighting the kohnstamm phenomenon, I'm mostly isometrics based nowadays with a small number of sandbag and calisthenics moves and this theory explains why so many (including me) feel lighter and have more spring in your step after isometrics training. Great find thanks! Merry Christmas/God Jul!
I hadn't thought about those two things together but that makes so much sense!! The floating arm trick is an isometric exercise 😯seriously thinking of things in an entirely different way right now haha. Merry Christmas!

The soccer ball analogy was brilliant 🤘 Lifting and essentially having to wrestle an under-filled sandbag sounds like the perfect exercise for grapplers and wrestlers, or anyone in the serial killer/human trafficking “lifestyle”😂
Thanks man! hahah tune in next time for the full jason voorhees sandbag training program! Learn to carry your victims! To throw them against a wall. Develop the strength you need to make sure no final girl remains!
This is why I got the Cerberus top knot bags. Bought three different sizes, and are holding up well. I actually sold my rogue zippered ones with the Velcro strap.
I just started the video, but my bags underfilled because I bought one I wouldn't really be able to handle so I could add sand as I progress:) Also I have things set up so I adjust the weight by scooping sand to or from construction sand bags, it's been the most convenient way so far to have one bag and make it "adjustable"
I was concerned about this type of training since Cerberus bags go in sizes of 172, then 220 lbs, and I'm trying to go in 50lb increments up from 100. I was thinking that there would be some disadvantage with having a too-empty bag.
Definitely has it's ups and downs! My recommendation if you jump up to a heavier partly filled sandbag is to keep working on improving your strength off the ground with the lighter tightly packed bag in addition to the new bag, practicing things like rows, and the one motion lift from the ground to the chest
Listening to a story about dribbling flat balls on christmas eve trying not to laugh like a child (i did, i couldnt help it) was great. Merry xmas everyone
Love the football story. This is kind of stuff is why I enjoy watching "good" youtube videos (and sometimes making them). Anyway, I’ve been working with a 100kg (220 pounds) Cerberus sandbag, but I’ve only filled it up to 75kg (165). I figured it’d be an easier progression to start with since, well, less weight means easier, right? Right? Not always. The weight shifts unpredictably, and it’s incredibly awkward to shoulder, as the former sandbag-shaped object turns into an expanded mess of shifting sand. Now, imagine being tired and doing a fourth set of carries, only for you to mess up the lift to your chest. Suddenly, all the weight sinks lower in the bag, completely changing the dynamic. It feels like an entirely different exercise. Long story short: Sandbags don’t care about your plans. The awkward weight, shifting balance, and unpredictability turn even lighter loads into a brutal challenge... And that’s why they’re so effective. I will keep working with the loose bag before jumping up to the full 100kg!
Thanks man! I feel that completely haha, when the sand all shifts to the bottom randomly and now your lifting this weirdly shaped thing, it's so tough :D
I've gotten a 225 to shoulder for reps, but both the 250 and 265 we have at the club are underfilled and floppy as hell. I can carry both, I can put both over a 54" bar, but can't quite get them to shoulder. Keep getting hung up at chest. I WILL conquer them at some point. Maybe I'll try knocking 10 lbs out of my 200 as you suggest.
Oh man I can only imagine how tough a 250 that isn't tightly packed would be! If you can shoulder that thing though imagine where you're regular sandbag strength would be :O
I used to do isolation but it's been just sandbags and calisthenics compound stuff for a long time now! (Plus a lot of high rep curls with bands as part of my warmup) seems to be working well so far! I did order a chest expander and I'll probably start doing a bit more isolation again for a while soon just to see the difference
my worst enemy... underfulled ironmind 250-300lbs bag... also i figured out a sandbag makes a baller preacher curl station. the uses for a sandbag are ever expanding.
Oh man that sounds insane! a tightly packed bag in that weight range is tough enough 😵 I bet that feels great on the elbows too, not too hard like a preacher station with too little padding!
