The only thing i would add to it is a small package of water purification tablets. you might not be able to make a fire due to the envirmont or potential enemies
Finland is a different environment than America, but during my time as an active duty soldier over here, I began carrying a few things as standard equipment. They were: - Moleskin - Pepto Bismol (Tablets) - Baby Wipes - Camper's Toilet Paper - Red Lense Minilight - Surefire Combat Light with Infrared Filter The most important things on that list were the first two, plus the Surefire. The moleskin made blisters easier to march on, the Pepto Bismol tablets took care of any diarrhea caused by our MREs (which I still despise to this day), and the Surefire allows you to clear rooms using either a bright white light or an infrared one, depending upon your situation. Your kit looks too large and bulky to me. Everything I used was miniaturized, lightweight, and travel variants to cut as much weight as possible while maintaining functionality. Good luck! 🫡
@@tyree9055 excellent additions. The sleep gear I have is not optimal and needs to be upgraded. I saw the tweet thread and wanted to make the video quickly.
Leukotape makes for better moleskin than anything else I've ever tried. Multi use as well. Actually stays on but does not damage the skin. I keep a roll of it in my car first aid kit. Although in my experience blisters aren't really an issue if your boots actually fit well and you're regularly active in them.
He didn't advocate specific brands/models. He advocated tools for tasks, and you choose whatever tool you want or can afford to fill that role/task. Except his recommendation of the Fiskars shovel. Which he is correct call out specifically. It is awesome.
@woodsghost9088 My recommendations are based on my experiences and available equipment. If you can find an equivalent form of Pepto Bismol's anti-diarrhea tablets, more power to you. I have no familiarity with the EU market, but those tablets I consider life-saving equipment for any survivalist situation. As for the Surefire, my only complaint would be the expense, and infantrymen can't afford to concern themselves with expense when lives matter. Just don't buy an LED flashlight and expect it to work with an infrared filter. Last I heard and experienced, they didn't emit infrared light. That may have changed since I last purchased my equipment (20 years ago), but I don't know. My Surefire's functioning perfectly fine still... 😂 🤷
@@tyree9055 yeah man. I love your recommendations. I run a different anti-diarrheal, Imodium, but I've been thinking about giving Pepto a try. There are LEDs now which emit IR. Or they sure look like LEDs. I don't know. I'm not a biologist. My key point is you criticized the video makers gear for being too bulky. And my reply is to pay attention to his format. He was not saying "take THIS sleeping bag." He was saying "take A sleeping bag." And he did a good job. And I agree with you, that smaller/travel type gear is better. Unless it gets busted with use. Then get something more robust. Cheers.
Since you're guaranteed to get trench foot, get some antifungal foot cream, preferably two different ones, with different active ingredients. Forget the lip balm and stuff, antifungal cream is the thing you'll need the most.
@@Panzershrek yeah it will definitely be a step up. So far the reviews are good. MPK in Finland already got theirs for training. I think Sweden will roll them out for service sooner than Finland.
I'm curious as to what the "resin cream" ('pikaborde'?) is. I'm not aware of any medical ointment that is resin based in Australia. Is it for general skin complaints like anti-fungal, antiseptic, insect bites, small cuts or similar? Thanks for your informative video.

So do reservists bring their own gear completely besides uniforms or what all is provided? In the us military some private purchases can be made i hear but it depends on what your higher ups have to say.
It is completely up to the officers if it is allowed or not. If you are participating in MPK (Civilian military organization) training then your own gear is more than welcome. But in training organized by the FDF it can go either way.
No, the only things a reservist needs to buy on their own is a knife, watch, maybe a flashlight and personal hygiene stuff. Literally everything else is provided.
Theoreretically the FDF issues you everything you need. Because of this, you don't get any tax deduction or other benefit to buy personal gear. But only the operative units get the most modern gear, most reservists would be issued older, less sophisticated equipment. Also, the gear that is issued is designed to suit most people relatively well. They might not suit your body dimensions perfectly. In mobilisation, the government will pay a fixed sum for the gear you brought from home for your own use. The only downside in bringing your own gear is that they do not belong to the FDF maintenance circulation program like the gear issued by the government. So, you will have to repair and laundry your own gear yourself.
