Hey Jonas ! Thanks for the question. I haven't done a vid on my clothes for the outdoors but I definitely should. The clothes in this video however are top to toes 1 . Varusteleka wool field shirt 2. Chevalier "vintage" hunter pants 3. Muckboots "artic sport" 4. Aclima woolnet base layers 5. Darn tough socks
One of my biggest fears is losing my main camp. I set reflective tape (pretty cheap to find) on nearby trees so if it turns late. A simple light might help me find my way home.
@GModBMXer couldn't agree more. I use PAUL mapping and my signal panel above my tarp. In my day roaming pack I carry paper trail marking tape (forest industry). It's blaze orange, biodegradable and if I forget it it won't damage the tree. Weighs nothing too.
I love that there's not a single a**zon link in your info section. Pretty sure all the other folks I see on TH-cam have everything linked through them, big respect that you don't. I've only seen a couple of your videos, and I like the way you present your info. The lack of a**zon links has sold me though. New subscriber here, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
My paranoia of losing sight of the little ones made me buy some high-vis vests for the whole family, almost weightless but a bit of space taking. Any time we are moving around the 7 year old is a bright orange reflective critter, and they make great markers to find your way back to camp or mark longer ridge lines in low visibility conditions. Great video brother!
@@Tim_Keys I do the same with my little ones ! Great minds and all that. Great advice, brother. I have been super busy this week. I saw your PM. Will drop yah a line during the week
@@inforestsandlands No worries at all man, take your time. Your advice is always appreciated but I see you have a lot going on these days. I'm just having some fun around here so I have no schedule or commitments to follow
I fully agree and carry that vest in my pack. I call it the 'roadworkers' vest but that's probably not the official term. I recommend to also have every family member carry a loud whistle on their person 24/7 when outdoors.
@Buckturrible haha and back at yah. I used to work for savotta. But even tho now we are just colleagues I still think their stuff is some of the best out there. I hear you on verusteleka ! I make content for them and at this stage I am just working for kit 🤣
'Your medical pouch should also never exceeds your training' is a really good one considering almost every outdoor channel is now promoting tourniquettes. It's easy to learn HOW to use it but way more difficult WHEN to use it. To me it feels like people carrying a firearm with no training at all and these are dangerous people. You do mention the training part and I like that. There's indeed a difference between self-aid and first-aid for a family or group. Two colors are not natural on land and will therefore always stick out and these are pink and baby blue. Funny how parents of newborns (at least in my country) seem to know this almost instinctively. Orange and yellow are good alternatives for high visibility. Somebody already suggested carrying a high visibility (road workers) vest and I would like to add a loud whistle on your person 24/7 for yourself and every member of your party. It's a good video and indeed it differs very much where you are, what season, what you want to do or where you are traveling. I pack differently (besides the essentials) depending if I'm going to Sweden on a canoe trip or to Thailand on a jungle hike for instance.
I'm always changing something in my setup. I just can't settle on a consistent plan. This inevitably leads to me forgetting where I've packed something pretty much every trip out.
@andrewplaysoutside agreed my man. I had the same problem. So I got inspired by fighter jet pilots. They only have fractions of seconds before they eject. But drilling where everything is over and over again. It allows that muscle memory. So I journalled my trips. I wrote down everything I brought to the woods Gave it a star if I didn't use it. After 3 trips. If it had 3 stars it came out of my bag. Withing a few months I could clearly see what I used and what I didn't use. Then I started a new chart. Kept track of what I had to open my bag for to take out. If I needed it every trip. I then found a pouch for it outside my bag. Stuff that was last out (like sleeping pads) went way down the bottom. It's a bit of work to journal. But after a half year of trips. Your bag will be like a jet pilots flight suit
@@inforestsandlands A good fisherman watches for patterns. Journalling makes this much easier and quicker. I guess i should say something for the algorithm. "Something!" 😂 I'm kind invested in 5:11 packs, so there are a ton of pockets and sections so at first i couldn't find anything but now i have a system that is transferable from pack to pack. i have a MOLLE water bottle pouch, an IFAK pouch, a phone/powerbank pouch, gloves, and carabiners on the outside, but my takeaway from this is i should pick up some thin shockcord. I've got some 10mm thick stuff i bought as a band to power a makeshift "projectile slinger," but yes, some 4mm stuff would be great to attach to MOLLE points on my packs
