Lee Chong Wei lost 7 chances to win the World Championships and Olympics gold medal all because of 2 players:
    1) Lin Dan - World Championships (2011 & 2013) and Olympics (2008 & 2012)
    2) Chen Long - World Championships (2014 & 2015) and Olympics (2016).

True, imo he should have won against lin Dan WC 2011 and Olympics 2012. Somehow he never seemed to get that close to beating CL in the WC and Olympics but he would have been stripped of his championship in 2014 anyway.
Tbh I don't really think the WC has held much value since it became a yearly event. These days it's much easier to be a WC winner than previously when it occurred less often. But he should have won at least one of each

      @dagghui 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I don't think he never talks good of Lin Dan, Like one of them said ''Lee Chong Wei has to work slightly harder for his point'' I actually think this is true because LCW is having to go through a lot to get his point where as Lin Dan has a big advantage his smashes are too powerful and when he gets the chance he takes it, LCW is more of a physical battle player, his speed helps him a lot but the thing is Lin Dan is able to get them back most of the time with no problem.

Again when lee serve at 21/20, he was urging by saying "Come on". Morton broke down and didn't say a word for few minutes, finally he said " i have said all week and i will say it again. Morten Frost was the one who excavated LCW's talent. Of course it is expected to not see him being neutral. Just like Chinese commentator tends to favor more on Chinese side when commentating and Indian commentator tends to favor more on India side when commentating. It's normal.

    • @highsu7124

ramseyozil johnn chinese commentators was just to boarcast for chinese audience, same with indian one. They don't get paid by or hire by BWF. They are not the official bwf commentator. Morton frost and Gill Clark are the internationl one who hired by BWF so they should be neutral. Yes it's normal for him to bias. But it's just not right to do so, specially the whole world is watching. That's is why he looks like an idiot by saying lcw is the best even lin dan had just won.

Replying long time later, but 2010 and 2011 was his best chance. In 2010, if all LCW did was beat Taufik (who LCW has no trouble against), he could've easily beat the eventual champion, Chen Jin (because Lin Dan had lost to Park Sung Hwan). In the semifinals before this match, LCW basically destroyed Chen Jin and was at his peak for sure. He also had one of the easiest wins ever against Lin Dan earlier in 2011 at the All England, so mentally he must have felt quite confident. Unfortunately what happened was that, after 2013, it was Chen Long's turn to shine...

Lee Chong Wei has to be one of the unluckiest, if not the most unluckiest athlete in history. He lost in 3 Olympic finals and 4 World championship finals to Chinese opponents.
Here, he had 2 match points against Lin Dan but became very tentative and lost. In the 2012 London Olympic final, he also squandered a match point in the 3rd set and lost to his great rival.
Although he finally managed to beat Lin Dan at the 2016 Rio Olympics after another titanic battle that went to deuce in the 3rd set, it was only at the semi final stage .
In the final, he couldn't recover in time and lost to Chen Long in 2 tough sets.
Chen Long had also beaten LCW in the 2014 and 2015 world championship finals. And in the 2013 final, LCW had lost to Lin Dan in another 3 tough setter.
What is most mystifying is the fact that Lee Chong Wei went into each of this tournaments as the top seed and World No 1, a position he has held for an astonishing accumulative 7 years!
Nevertheless, he will also go down in history as the most successful Super Series winner with 69 titles and the richest badminton player of all time, besides being the longest reigning World No 1 in history

    - Final match of the most prestigious tournament (aside from Olympic)
    - Two highest seeded players playing against each other
    - Two highest ranked players playing against each other
    - Two greatest players of all time playing against each other, in their prime
    - Lee Chong Wei defeated Lin Dan in previous tournament (All England 2011)
    - Lee Chong Wei on a mission to snatch Malaysia's first ever world championship gold
    - Only one year after this tournament, the two met again in Olympic final when Lin Dan cemented himself as the greatest of all time (if not before this)
    - Very tight match, lived up to the expectation

And after that he was only sad, but he kept his calm and stayed relaxed, and this is why the Asian players are good I think, because they are very relaxed when they are playing, and they can lose like a gentelman, and they can concentrate to the shuttle.

Yes, I was amazed by Lin Dan's courage to play without fear at such critical moment. On the other hand, when LD has a match point, LCW did not respond with the same courage. That's probably explains the difference between them.

it is obvious LCW reach his peak at 2011-2012, while LD at 2008-2009.
i would rateLD peak 99 points out of 100, while LCW peak 94 points.
thats why LCW gave a very good resistent here, because their level i think is about the same, its only about mental battle at the end
