    Alex's video reviews are all about the vehicle which make him stand out amongst the many others doing what he does on TH-cam. No ego trips here, just great trips around some nice cars.
    Carry on as you areAlex. Best car reviewer on TH-cam.

      It's not necessarily though I mean the gls580 will do just fine and some 28k dollars cheaper starting price. I would personally get the X7 v8 or the new Escalade.

    As a family of 5 (3 kids), I had to eliminate the BMW X7 from consideration as it was too small of a 3rd row and it was virtually impossible to fit between the captain's chairs. It's also not feasible for either manufacturer to get a bench seat and wait the 2 minutes for it to electronically move forward and back for small kids to get into the 3rd row. GLS hit a homerun with their configuration for families and really are in a class to themselves (X7/Q7 are too small and the Navigator/Escalade is way too big).

    • @13jrvernon

    • @CaptainDawg02
      @CaptainDawg02 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@13jrvernon - way too big. Barely fits in most garages and parking spaces. The GLS is the perfect vehicle in between your crossovers & huge full-size trucks. Offers space for passengers in all rows and towing capacity of campers & boats like a full-size truck, but is still driveable.

  • @CalvinHikes

    The fact that there are so many engine and trim levels available, proves a lot of people who can't afford this or still trying to buy it. It means that many if not most of luxury car buyers aren't actually wealthy people. Otherwise they'd all just get the high end trim with the V8.

    Even Mercedes GLS and BMW X7 are designed by German companies they are conceived for North American market and are litterally built in the USA and shipped worldwide. I believe lots of customers in the USA liking comfortable ride, huge cargo space and great towing ability vs performance will opt for Lincoln Navigator unless some will trade interior for lower MSRP and will shop Cadillac or GMC brands.

    I’ve never really understood high performance ultra luxury vehicles. The AMG S63 makes no sense to me, and this is no different. The S560 has a V8 for smoothness and effortless acceleration. The S65 (Maybach S650) has a V12 for even more of that. The S63 sits in a weird spot where it’s trying to be sporty (I think) but still luxurious. I don’t understand it. I’d personally get the 450 or 580 because they’re sensible. The 63 just doesn’t make sense. It’s a giant SUV. It’s meant to be comfortable and practical

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just my opinion, but I think a lot has to do with appearance. People like to show off their taste, style or whatever and so get a vehicle that reflects that. Not difficult for a manufacturer to cater to that relative niche, as it also helps build brand recognition to increase their sales elsewhere.

    • @CaptainDawg02
      @CaptainDawg02 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remember, the MB is a worldwide SUV and the largest in the world market (they don't sell our giant American SUVs outside the US well). So getting a high performance version is very exciting. This SUV competes with Land Rover outside the US as well...surprised Alex didn't use them as a comparison even though they don't really have a 3rd row for some reason in their larger SUV.

    • @CaptainDawg02
      @CaptainDawg02 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. It's larger than an Enclave and Traverse. It has the interior room of a normal Escalade (actually larger), but is 6" smaller on the exterior...and has a usable 3rd row for humans (that floorboard for the GM SUVs is atrocious).

    • @lucashuang10
      @lucashuang10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      naveenthemachine it doesn’t compare man. A cheap plastic interior $40k Dodge Durango doesn’t compete with a $110k GLS63AMG. Bmw X7M and Range Rover supercharged will be a more fair comparison.

    • @naveenthemachine
      @naveenthemachine 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lucas huang I’m talking specifically the SRT trim. Other trims yes I agree. The SRT is already 70+K starting.
      Does that mean it shouldn’t be comparable?

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@naveenthemachine well to me comparable tends to follow what a customer might consider. I really dont think a customer looking at a $130-150k Mercedes SUV will be cross shopping at the local Dodge dealer for an SRT Durango costing half as much (less than that in many cases).

    • @lucashuang10
      @lucashuang10 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      naveenthemachine you can put a bigger engine in a mustang/camaro or a charger/challenger and raise its sticker price. It still won’t compete against a Porsche 911 or a Bmw M8 with similar HP. IMO folks who are buying a GLS will never consider a “dodge” durango. Folks who are buying a Porsche 911 will never consider a souped up challenger. That’s just my take.

    Mercedes went a little backwards with the hard plastics on the bottom part of the door panel. It was soft touch plastic before. Optional stitched leather I know is available, but disappointing at this price point. Once you get to this price range there shouldn't be hard touch plastics in view. Overall it is still a good redesign and huge leap in tech from the previous gen.

      Eh...may be, but when you factor in the cabin size it does make a difference. 5 zones is really just to add the 5th zone (3rd row)...otherwise it comes standard with 4 zone climate (nothing in the 3rd row). When you have captains chairs in the second row (which are like the front two seats in size and distance from each other), you can feel the difference in zones.

    I don't understand how Mercedes can make a beautiful interior like that, but still lack long-term reliability

    • @elvismegabrain752

      Because you can't get reliability in super luxurious car. is either you choose cheap plastic reliable or luxurious unreliable car you can't get both in one car. Mercedes benz is reliable just that those luxury higher technology will fail which make as think is not reliable you will never have a problem with Mercedes benz engines

    Needs to be wider by at least a foot. The new G-wagon is also too narrow. People that can afford to drive this usually don’t drive on narrow roads so no point catering to people that don’t have wide roads to drive on.

    The real question is this: *Is the front grill bigger than BMWs' kidneys* ?

    • @Jaymac720
      @Jaymac720 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but in a good way. It’s proportional. The X7’s grill is disproportionately shaped though. It’s much too tall for the width. They’re too close to square

    • @dimitris.p.kepenos
      @dimitris.p.kepenos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jaymac720 Well I am poking fun at the fact that as tech is advancing in both the manufacturing (reducing cost and size) and innovation the need to put all sorts of active safety systems as well as comfort (radar, laser sensors etc) the need for bigger grills in order to accommodate them will be necessary. The designers will have to get creative, like your mention is correct.

    Since when Q7 is longer then QX60? Plus, QX60 has V6 engine placed sideways as of front wheel based vehicle. Audi's V6 is rear wheel based and their hood space takes the more room, same as X7 and GLS, QX60 has way more interior volume as well, then Q7. Q7 is out of the league. Its overpriced vehicle. You dont get any options on the car that could satisfy any moder standards. Technology is crap. Its better then QX60 but sizewise not even close
