I truly and deeply love her! Really! I have an obsession for her. She is beautiful in every possible way. My friends look at me like i'm crazy when I put on her music, and start dancing and singing like in a broadway musical :D Kind of strange obsession for the fact that I was born in 1990, and I didn't even know she existed five years ago.
I've discovered her only a few months ago and she's become one of my favourite artists in the field of music... I deeply love what she does: she's incredibly talented and creative in her art; through her music of course, but also with her lyrics, her dancing, her videos, the concepts of her albums (visually)... I really like the kind of "little universe" that she has created. In a nutshell, she's amazing :D
"Oh, I know a lot of things But did you always want a musical career in spite of all those qualifications?" "Yes, I did. I've always wanted to be involved in music. I never thought I'd actually be able to sing them, sing my songs, but it seems that I've done it." "I don't think anyone else could do them, really...."
Neither am I, but my understanding O (Ordinary) Levels were pass/fail examinations at age 16, followed by A (for Advanced) at 18, which were used for admission to Universities. Kate passed 10 O levels, indicating a very high level of academic interest and achievement. In another interview, she mentioned that she took her "mock A" exam, but left school before the full exam. For context, Wikipedia indicates that, at the time, only 3 A levels were required for entrance to most Universities.
KateBushvideos - 'O' or 'Ordinary Level' was in fact the higher level of attainment at the end of secondary or senior school education. 'O' levels were superior qualifications to 'CSEs', which were 'Certificates of Secondary Education', although achieving a CSE Grade 1 was automatically classed as an 'O' level attainment. 'O' level passes were graded A - E, with F being a failure. A - C were classed as actual passes, with D and E considered 'lower levels of attainment'. I'm aged 55 and can remember all of that clearly for some reason. I also passed 10 'O' levels, but neither looked like nor could sing like Kate!! 🙂👍🙏
Kate actually set Molly Bloom's speech to music, then sought permission from the Joyce estate. Stephen Joyce refused, and Kate had to write new lyrics and created the song we have today. There's a version floating around of a singer singing the "rediscovered" lyrics over the instrumental version of the song.
That last comment is a real laugh, in retrospect. Type in "running up that hill" and see how many versions (apart from Kate+Gilmour) are listed before her own original video turns up - somewhere on Page 5. Even drunken amateurs singing RUTH in pubs are listed ahead of her on TH-cam. It must be one of the most covered songs in the last 30 years!
Sorry, I have too much time at the point, but I love witnessing the time of flow through these videos. And I loved 50 Words for snow. And I think Kate looks gorgeous. Now. I am 38 years old and I certainly don't look exactly like the picture on the left!
Well, you have to have read the novel and understood it to have written that song. No one has sung it with such eerie other-worldly haunting power as its author. No one ever will.
Ten O'Levels ! I know a guy who got 10 O'levels and 6 A levels his father was a Prof. and his mother a Dr. - Wasn't Kate Bush's father a Dr.? She has an Irish mother, I bet Kate takes after her mother for her looks and her father for her brain power :-)
A "drop-out" is a place where the magnetic coating has actually fallen off the videotape. The result ranges from a white speck to the picture breaking up. My goal has been to provide the very best quality possible. I checked, and I don't have my longer, worse quality version with me at the moment. It will be a few weeks before I get back home to my undigitized videotapes.
"..go back to the beginnings. You're nineteen now?" "Twenty." "Twenty?" "Yeah - just." "And you're from Kent?" "Yeah" "Is Kate Bush your own name?" "Yes, it is." "You got a lot of O-levels [exam grades], you got ten. Seems like a world record to me." "How did you know that?"
Marcel, say you're 38 y/o (No reason to feel old)? It's time for you to get it on again with a agreeable lady who desires the same things you very much desire. You need to find a new gal. Love life while you're young. Life is TOO SHORT! Women are wonderful & you need one (or a guy) to love & cherish. I turned 56 & have my Barbara & she's more than any man could ask for in1 life (SHE LOVES & ACCEPTS ME for the last 17 years). Marcel, find 1 person to love who loves you & you've found a TREASURE.
I have always loved Kates music and the she is so classy, charming, ultra feminine and Iwas just listening to Wuthering Heights and The man with the child in his eyes she has a voice that is amazing and increibly expressive. with her movements, her timing is amazing and shi is beautiful.I have heard she was e teachingg ymnastics before she became famous.Does anyone know if this is true?Kate Bush fan foever!
No, they haven't. All you can say is some other versions are reasonably competent. The problem is they are by singers who seem not to have paid too much attention to the words and their meaning. It isn't a ballad about unrequited love. It's a Gothic horror song, and shouldn't be turned into "easy listening". Only Bush provides the chill factor this song needs. But who knows, one day Bjork might have go at it, or Annie Lennox. They might be worth listening to.
Full 8 minute interview from the BBC Archive channel here, th-cam.com/video/qv8CJFBSixE/w-d-xo.html , shame it does not include Kate playing live segment, probably rights issues.
Oh my God! I love when the interviewer says that he thinks nobody could sing Kate Bush's songs. I truly believe that if many artists who have made versions of her songs, listened to him, they probably wouldn't have acted like idiots, trying to sing her songs and ruining them. It's really sad when people don't hear the truth.
Hahahaha. You can go on all night and feel a winner, OLD MAN. You feel so bad about getting old, I don't. Your'e not worth it. But it's funny, laughing at you.
she's got the cutest accent ever
You’re right.
A face to melt a heart and a voice to lift a soul.
Kate's an enigma Very mature at 20 and yet remains forever young to this day.
she breaks my heart every time i see her oh if only........

As soon as I discovered her, she became my favorite artist EVER.
Beautiful talking voice, absolutely charming lady.

Every time she speaks I’m just in awe because I never expect her voice to be light and adorable like that. Always a pleasant surprise.

Im glad im not the only one who had dreams of Kate Bush. She's extremely beautiful!

Love Love Love her. This is what happens when an Angel takes human form.😇❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree. I read Wuthering Heights once as well as watch three film adaptations. Kate Bush's ballad fits the novel perfect.
i love her smile!

@KateBushvideos You are right, O Levels are now called GCSE's. But you still only need 3 A Levels to get into Uni.
She interviews SO well - so natural
Christ! I remember seeing this on top of the pops when I was 7. I am 40 toady!
Well, you have to have read the novel and understood it to have written that song. No one has sung it with such eerie other-worldly haunting power as its author. No one ever will.
I'm jealous. I got a melted soul and a face to lift.
TI AMO
Thank you for this. I had a dream about her last night and she saved me from drowning.

your right no one else could sound like kate bush.
Love it!
Pat Benetar's cover was so-so. I agree that only Kate Bush can capture the true sense of the magical song.
Such a sweet interview
lovable and talented person
@acerflots Well, yes he is, but give Kate some Credit as well!
great, thank you ;)
But of course you are so much more better than anyone else of us!
Nature's child in a time. Actually like to add, that She's brilliant artist too.
Does anyone know where I can find the entire show?
It's on you tube. Just enter Aspel and Kate bush and you will find it.
I've no idea what a "drop out" is, but can't you post the full video regardless?
This is superb btw. Thanks for sharing.
She's so lovely!!!
Oh, my god she had 10 O'levels when that counted, she is sheba lovely!!!
Como você deve estar agora? meu Amor!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is about her earlier songs where the vocal was very unusual at the time. Has anyone really covered Wuthering Heights that well for instance?
Ela é tão fofinha 🥺
"..go back to the beginnings. You're nineteen now?"

Wow. The only way I would ever get an o level is if I go on a lift which has a level o.
...you could've been back there to charm her? I know, breaks my heart too ^^
@katebushisagenius Oh yea that too, for sure.
She was beautiful when she was young but she got better looking as she got older.
I know I would. And I just want to say that Del Palmer and Danny McIntosh are two lucky bastards!
The clip is way too short.

Who cares how many O levels she has? Her music is great.
@MsGORGONS Exaxtly, we can't compare her with Freddie Mercury.
what was that he said in the end?
I don't think anyone else could do them, really. 🙂
Was?
Love her dimple so much

Or was it pie?
0:13 She's got 10 what? O-levels?

Why even mention her in the same sentence. Kate Bush is an original....Cheryl whatever her name is ...is a joke!!!
Or Jah Wurzel.

So hot so nice and genuine
I think that Hannible and Marcel should have argued in some place else. Such a non sense thing in this interview. That should all be erased!
kate bush is more talented than cheryl cole
So, you are not 15?
Liam Gallagher has 4 GCSE
A silly part of me would compare her to Mrs Robinson... but Mrs Robinson was never that good looking, so it might be an unfair comparison.
I feel very sorry, Kate Bush doesn't deserve a comment about pe or pee.
Maybe I overestimated you, you are 14!
I win!
Kate Bush is everything
These interview was doing at midnight campaign against multiple voice who not standing for comfort she baby was stolen
Hahahaha. You can go on all night and feel a winner, OLD MAN. You feel so bad about getting old, I don't. Your'e not worth it. But it's funny, laughing at you.
