The voice itself is absolutely gorgeous, and his vocal technique strikes me as really solid. If it weren't, I don't believe his voice would have withstood so many years of singing "balls to the wall," as it were, the way he has. It sounds clean, fresh, and powerful, with great resonance and squillo. From the moment Adam walked into his American Idol audition and slayed Bohemian Rhapsody he had me as a fan! I faithfully tuned in every single week to see what brilliance he was going to come up with next. His Mad World performance was absolutely exquisite and haunting - I remember sitting there watching in awe. Couldn't care less that he didn't end up winning - he's hands down the winner in my book! What a talent.
I was there the night of the concert and everyone’s reaction process went like this: “… is he really going to sing that? Here? That takes some balls” “Ok well, so far so good” “That’s waaaaaay better than Bocelli, anyway” “He’s not going for the held note, right?… I guess he is” “Madonna” “Ma stai scherzando!” “That’s amazing!” (I’m leaving some of the Italian for color LOL)
Spot on. I was there too and, after the initial disbelief, I almost forgot to breathe while listening to him. As mind-blowing as unexpected. Quite brave. Massive respect.
I have lost count Of how many times I’ve watched this reaction video, keep comming back 😂 I love the «shock» on both your faces when he hits that first highnote and it sounds «just like what you would Expert in an opera house” 🥰

So great to have Marc back over here. I was such a huge fan at his channel. What a great review of Adam Lamberth‘s terrific performance. What a wonderful voice that man has!
My sister is an opera and baroque singer so I’ve heard a lot of classical singers. The nerve it took to do this as not a classically trained singer is mind blowing. He may not necessarily sound opera, but he sounds amazing.
Glad you’re saying that Adam’s pronunciation is not a problem. I’m sure if Adam performed this aria on a regular basis he would’ve perfected his Italian😀
Adam had a year of opera singing training in his high school years. I was at the concert in Bologna - at the barrier in front of it and my video has exceptional sound. The performance was a tribute to the opera's homeland.
I think it's great you guys reacted to this when I first heard it I actually wasn't surprised because he's classically trained and he just has a tremendous amount of power and resonance in his voice so for me him singing opera is awesome. The more interesting thing to me is that he has been asked a million times to do some classical pieces and he has emphatically said he would not ever sing classical pieces so it's great that he veered off and gave us this little snippet of what he sounds like in his classical voice and the truth is even in some of his pop songs he uses a classical sound from time to time. Be great to hear him do more of it but he doesn't seem that interested at the end of the day we'll see great to see you guys hope to see you again soon.
Really happy to see you do another Adam Lambert reaction. And glad to hear the experts are in agreement with my untrained ears ;) Adam has such a unique sound but such a range in what he can pull off singing. I'd listen to him sing the phonebook. Loved your analysis and explanation as always :)
An Adam Lambert fan here. FYI. (1) His parents put him in opera training as a teenager. Didn't "stick" but he probably got some basics. (2) I saw a recent Q&A with Adam where someone suggested he put it in his set list. He said, no way. Can't remember the detail - but essentially that for him singing that way takes too much energy and would potentially take away from the full concert performance over time. My interpretation, he is going to take care of his voice and do what makes his heart sing.
Thats what people find hard to grasp. Opera is insanely difficult and draining and anyone who can do it well yet appear as if they are putting in no effort is a different breed. Pavarotti was a prime example and his manager even complained and told him he had to at least attempt to make it look like it was more of an effort for him to sing that way 🤣
The only words he is not pronouncing perfectly are Dorma (the first d sounds english) and speranZa/stanZa. However it is very common that non-Italian mother-tongue opera singers make these little imperfections. So, as Italian, and great Adam’s fan, no, I actually loved this from the first to the last second. I also compared with Pavarotti and could appreciate Adam even more by listening to both versions.
I was with you right until you said you compared him to Pavarotti. I'm sorry but you ca not compare mere mortals to the King of the high C, there are no comparisons to be made. Luciano was unique and there will never be a other vocalist like him
@@jackwhitbread4583 All of these guys are unique they have different singing styles. People always wanna talk down someone else vocals because they think one artist is better than the other if we take just hitting notes as better singing then Mariah Carey or Dimash are the best but to me they are just as good as Lambert or Pavarotti.
Adam Lambert is the most phenomenal singer on the planet and to throw Nessun Dorma in to a rock concert shows the depth of his capabilities. The power Adam has is incredible and he deserves all the accolades he gets and more.👏💗😀
Tuning in from BC Canada I was so excited to hear Adam sing Opera. I bet that Brian and Roger encourage Adam's Music. I had goose bumps listening to Adam sing Opera. I saw Queen and Adam Lambert in 2014 in Vancouver. I screamed for 3 hours. I drove home to Kelowna and watched the concert on youtube. I wanted to go when they came back to Vancouver in 2020 but tickets were $500.00 on the floor.
I loved reading that Queen warmed up to this song and decided to include it in the program. I remember when I was lucky enough to be at U of Penn when Bob Dylan and Joan Baez were warming up to "You Lost That Loving Feeling."
Dr. Mark Reynolds was kind enough to answer my question re Adam Lambert's singing style/technique on his song "Soaked" from his first album. If you don't already know 4-months or so after American Idol he goes off on a worldwide tour of 70 cities, on 5 continents. And, the opening night concert was filmed live - you can buy the DVD. Adam's performance => th-cam.com/video/LPWvvXBIrIk/w-d-xo.html. ***. Here is Dr. Reynolds reply, "I would probably describe it as mix of pop, baroque tenor largo aria, a touch of baroque countertenor, a touch of music theater … but mostly just some lovely balanced easy singing that explored the aspirate and glottal spectrum of vocal adduction and played with vibrato/straight-tone a bit. I love this style where you aren’t really sure what you are listening to put it is compelling and beautifully executed.? Thanks again for answering y question!
He’s such a great singer - and he has been since his very first performance I saw on American Idol all those years ago. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful lyric tenor performance here.
I love Adam Lambert. Last night I found myself going over his American Idol performances specifically Ring of Fire. It blew me away then and it still does.
Adam has THE best voice in the business. I would like to see him sing with Steve Perry (formally of Journey). Steve has one of the best voices in the business too.
Enjoyed seeing you two together. I had no idea Adam could sing like this. I’ve enjoyed his singing since he was on American Idol(I think). My husband and I were rooting for him. I lost track of him until he joined Queen. Thanks for your comments.
Holy Moly! What a sound!!! I could listen to him sing with this sound all day long. The only thing that makes the lower notes sound pop-ish is his diction, but it doesn't bother me. And I'm a diction "snob". Thank you for sharing 😊❤️
Had he rehearsed this, there'd have been more perfection. He is a highly educated vocalist and knows how to fit his instrument to the needs of the song, no matter what it is. Would love to hear him do this with prep! (And I am dying to see him on Broadway. He could win a Tony!)
ADAM, what an unexpected surprise, love him since I was like a 14 year old kid struggling with my sexuality a million years ago. My OG gay icon - his performance of who wants to live forever at the Isle of Wight festival needs to be checked out. It's one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Love your reactions always
Love watching how you explain the technical side of things and how performers make choices in how they use their instrument to reach desired notes and sounds. Something I look out for now when watching singers and Adam Lambert demonstrates this perfectly! Another artist I've noticed is Sam Ryder who clearly makes technical choices with apparent ease. Would love to see your breakdown of how he performs.
Can you imagine if Adam spoke Italian and was trained in Opera? Not to shabby for an American fronting probably the greatest rock band ever (my opinion). My German stinks but when I lived in Germany, the locals appreciated the attempt.. Adam is great!
@@carolhagerty4288 Which genres have you heard him sing? I heard him sing musical theater and pop. I can barely call his rendition of ND a crossover, but let’s add that one to his vast catalogue of styles. What else? …………………..Nope. Nothing comes to mind. You next.
@@papabearM3 Serious question - Even if every comment you've made on here were right, if every single thing you claim about him were true, why would you go around spoiling other people's joy? Why go around telling people who may not know the first thing about vocals and just simply enjoy his voice and love him singing anything that they're wrong? What possible motive could you have for for wanting to wade into the comment section, here and on twitter, to try to spoil people's enjoyment of something? When someone sees a show and goes on social media to share a video clip and say how much they loved it, why would you want to spoil that with negativity when you weren't there and have no reason to even comment? What makes a person want to "correct" everyone's subjective opinion of something? I'm genuinely curious, 12 years is a hell of a long time to keep this up.
@@rockchic65 Well, you are an impressionable wallflower if I can “spoil your joy” by criticizing a variety singer! I am sorry I made you cry. Better days ahead. Let’s hope Maylor retire soon before they either drop dead on stage ( no one wants to see that!) or turn into a circus attraction (a bit too late for that!), and dear Adam gets a residence at some motel in Vegas. Then, you can move into the same motel and stock Adam all day and all night. I am pretty sure you will too judging by the amount of stocking you do on YT. Hopefully the motel is big enough to accommodate the entire glambert army of 20. You can form a commune and sing kumbaya to support each other all day and all night. Wouldn’t THAT be smashing?! In the meantime, refrain from speaking for others. Stick to your own emotions and you will learn to harness them one day, I am sure.
So what you’re saying is with some training he could be a very good opera singer? 😬 I love this man and his voice regardless, he can sing anything in my amateur singer opinion. Would love your thoughts on my first question though
according to Italians who were there his pronunciation was surprisingly good. Not sure why you think it was bad but then I'm not a native speaker so maybe I'm missing something
I wonder how long you would train to be able to perform like that in an arena in a foreign country with it´s iconic aria (without an orchestra and at the beginning a capella)? One month? Two? Three? Even more? Because this happened unplanned. I'm glad you praise him, but you should factor this into your evaluation. Adam is an incredible singer!
It was quite lovely, but yes, to be opera you must be able to project OVER the orchestra, and most orchestra in Italy are quite large. However, I agree completely that Adam had a lovely vibrato throughout and did a great job, considering it is very hard for a pop singer to actually sing opera, just as Pavarotti never quite sounded right while singing “pop”. Bravo to Adam Lambert for singing Nessun Dorma in Italy!
He’s not singing with an orchestra, so you can not know what he would sound like if he were. And he’s not in an opera house either, whose acoustics are specifically designed for opera singers. Adam is in a huge stadium of 20,000 fans. That’s quite a different type of venue.
He has some pronunciation issues with the Italian, but it sounds better than when Pavarotti tried to sing pop songs in English- “I Leaff my Hearta in San Francisco” comes to mind.
Speaking of covered sound, there are several Pavarotti videos here with his Masterclass lectures, demonstrations and evaluating and instructing students on techniques including covered sound which he spends a great amout of time on. "a noble sound instead of a strangled sound". :) I especially love when he shows students how to jump in before the first note and how to keep the voice effect until the orchestra breaks - then explains the story of the opera to drive it home to the student why it's so important to tell the story.
Some interesting context. The set list for the Q+AL performance in Bologna BEFORE Adam sang Nessun Dorma was Now I'm Here, Hammer To Fall, Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, and Don't Stop Me Now. Listening to the explanation from these voice teachers that vocal technique is very different for Pop and Opera makes the fact that Adam switched techniques so quickly makes his singing of N D all the more impressive. From Rock to Opera within minutes!
No, you don’t switch techniques from song to song, you switch styles, i e switch focus from one placement to another, dynamics, texturizing, etc. Adam sings everything, including ND, in a pop style, which is easier, but shows lack of stylistic versatility.
@@lararoostalu9318 I am trying to educate you, dumberts, a little about music and “how it works,” so that you don’t spout all sorts of nonsensical rubbish presenting it as facts. Adam mixes up styles (not techniques) using same pop “techniques” bc he doesn’t know better. He ends up singing in pop style regardless of what he sings. It’s not original, it’s basically a bag of tricks style that is the easiest to master. And you, his admirers promote it as though it is something special. It is not. Adam is a talented guy and should take music seriously bc he could become a musician and perhaps a good one some day, but I don’t think he cares about music much nor does he seem to care about excelling or he would AT LEAST learn this aria properly and rehearse it to sound someone consistent. Oh well…
I’m surprised that I didn’t see the back story in the comments or that you didn’t mention it. During the day 1 sound check in Bologna, Adam was just messing around and started singing this cover like he learned it during his vocal training as a teenager. The band, producers, and crew were totally blown away. After the sound check, the band was talking and decided to do it during the show as a tribute to Bologna and opera. They rehearsed it a little bit so that Brian and the rest of the band could attempt to figure out their parts. That is why almost all of the performance from night 1 is without any, or very little, accompaniment. If you watch the videos from night 2 the band does a little more.
Adam Lambert is such a phenomenal talent and, hey, even allowing for the odd mispronounced word, for a rock/pop singer to even attempt this is beyond admirable. To pretty much pull it off in front of an obviously moved Italian crowd is staggering. Just lovely.
Not as a leggiero tenor, he has no idea what that is by his own admission. He did have a lot of vocal training and around a year of opera training as a teenager though.
@@KajiVocals I think someone who knows about voice said they think he's a leggiero and it was stated here and there by fans, but he was asked in an interview and said "I have no idea what that is" th-cam.com/video/iY_f64dMtho/w-d-xo.html
@@valmacclinchy Yeah I know he's said he rejected the "proper" way to sing when he wanted to learn how to do the rock scream high notes and his teacher said you can't actually teach that, but I doubt he would deny knowing what a leggiero tenor was if he knew. It's likely it never came up when he had lessons, it's possible that he is but you'd have to hear him doing a lot of classical music to classify him properly, and since he didn't pursue a classical career it doesn't really matter what he is for the kind of music he normally performs.

I actually went and listened to Pavarotti singing this and when you compare them side by side, of course Luciano makes Adam look a little amateur, but this is really quite astonishing to me. I can't think of any other rock/pop singer who could pull this off. He went full voice on the high notes when I expected him to back off or cover them to make them easier to sing. He just went pedal to the metal. A very courageous thing to do in Italy, in the birthplace of opera, especially with no rehearsal or pre-planning. It was literally decided that evening during the soundcheck.

His parents finally enrolled Adam in musical theater classes where he was most happy to spread the joy of song. He studied opera for a short time but discovered that rolling his r's caused him to become tongue-tied. He found his calling on American Idol and later with Queen and has been spreading musical joy ever since.❤
🤗Thank you Fiercians for rocketing Adam to earth. You gave us a beautiful, rare gift to treasure and enjoy. And thank you @6falconsue for such a lovely, creative comment. Adam is indeed special.❤💞
I absolutely love this 😀
This is my favorite review comment about Adam that I've read in oh soooo many reviews. TYSVM ❤
Celine dion is a great example of a person who sings imperfectly in English but we don’t care bc she’s a stellar singer
Adam Lambert is so impressive!
I saw him live in Vancouver, he was flawless
You go to a Queen concert and get this too. He's an incredible artist.
An improptu moment and this amazing Adam nailed it. And remember he is doing this song in a 2 hour concert. WOW Adam is WOW.
Couldn't agree with you more.
One of my favorite singers of the past 20 years imo
Adam Lambert has said that he only did it for two shows in Italy since it's really hard to do. Hes said it was a spur of the moment decision
Adam had some classical training and he is fabulous! I loved this, I think he is an amazing vocalist who loves to challenge himself
I was there the night of the concert and everyone’s reaction process went like this:
“… is he really going to sing that? Here? That takes some balls”
“Ok well, so far so good”
“That’s waaaaaay better than Bocelli, anyway”
“He’s not going for the held note, right?… I guess he is”
“Madonna”
“Ma stai scherzando!”
“That’s amazing!”
(I’m leaving some of the Italian for color LOL)
Spot on. I was there too and, after the initial disbelief, I almost forgot to breathe while listening to him. As mind-blowing as unexpected. Quite brave. Massive respect.
Adam is great but he is not better than Bocelli was in his prime.
@@65minimom Adam is way better because he can sing any genre and be better than anyone, Bocelli cant sang rock.
Finaly someone who was there telling us details😂
Adam can sing anything with his instrument!!!! No one can do what he does!
Enjoyed your reaction! It’s so impressive that he can do this mid concert and mid tour. 😊
I have lost count Of how many times I’ve watched this reaction video, keep comming back 😂 I love the «shock» on both your faces when he hits that first highnote and it sounds «just like what you would Expert in an opera house” 🥰
I love this song so much, and Adam just nailed it. I have seen him with Queen and it was an AMAZING experience. Adam is so gifted and talented. He did such a great job with this song.
No one can ever underestimate Adam Lambert's ability. Just, wow.
And he's even better (somehow?!) when you hear him in person..
No. Everyone just keeps OVERestimating his abilities.
@gwenethkohl he can do anything, from T-rex to Nessun Dorma! And do it well.
And spontaneously, too. 😊💖

Omg, what a great meeting it is... So light and spontaneous and fun! Thanks, Sam and Mark...
Also, Adam's singing is lovely...
I am so very jealous that you got to experience this live!

@@valmacclinchy I've heard people sing this well with a single day of training so a year is not all that impressive to be honest
@@jackwhitbread4583 🤣😂 sure you did
I think it's great you guys reacted to this when I first heard it I actually wasn't surprised because he's classically trained and he just has a tremendous amount of power and resonance in his voice so for me him singing opera is awesome.
I really love his tone and breath control. It was wonderful for a surprise, half-impromptu performance
He said it was hard but my take on what the rest of he said was that it was hard to remember the classical style when he isn’t doing it a lot
Swapping between styles
Thats what people find hard to grasp. Opera is insanely difficult and draining and anyone who can do it well yet appear as if they are putting in no effort is a different breed. Pavarotti was a prime example and his manager even complained and told him he had to at least attempt to make it look like it was more of an effort for him to sing that way 🤣
I love this! reminds me of when Freddie also ventured into a bit of Opera
Killer good
Ha cannato anche 'è chiuso' in 'ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me', per il resto ha fatto benissimo
I am italian, and the *only* way this performance could offend me is if he ate a pineapple pizza after 😂😂

Adam Lambert is the most phenomenal singer on the planet and to throw Nessun Dorma in to a rock concert shows the depth of his capabilities. The power Adam has is incredible and he deserves all the accolades he gets and more.👏💗😀
They only decided to put this in after he was fooling around singing it at soundcheck for the evening show. Quite impromtu.
Wow! Thank you for sharing!
👏 👏 👏 for the performance and this video
He’s such a great singer - and he has been since his very first performance I saw on American Idol all those years ago. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful lyric tenor performance here.
I love Adam Lambert. Last night I found myself going over his American Idol performances specifically Ring of Fire. It blew me away then and it still does.
Adam has THE best voice in the business. I would like to see him sing with Steve Perry (formally of Journey). Steve has one of the best voices in the business too.
That was impressive 👏
Enjoyed seeing you two together. I had no idea Adam could sing like this. I’ve enjoyed his singing since he was on American Idol(I think). My husband and I were rooting for him. I lost track of him until he joined Queen. Thanks for your comments.
Really enjoyed your breakdown of Adam's technique. Thanks!
Holy Moly! What a sound!!! I could listen to him sing with this sound all day long. The only thing that makes the lower notes sound pop-ish is his diction, but it doesn't bother me. And I'm a diction "snob". Thank you for sharing 😊❤️
Oooh, Marc. That's nice, it's been a minute. Love that for us and also for you.
Love seeing Marc on this channel! He was also my opera director in college. Great reaction from the both of you!

Would love to see you review Adam lambert heaven on their minds, one of his greatest vocals ever
Had he rehearsed this, there'd have been more perfection. He is a highly educated vocalist and knows how to fit his instrument to the needs of the song, no matter what it is. Would love to hear him do this with prep! (And I am dying to see him on Broadway. He could win a Tony!)
Yeah. When he has also not been singing rock/pop style for ages and just has been training classically
Wow what an amazing voice
ADAM, what an unexpected surprise, love him since I was like a 14 year old kid struggling with my sexuality a million years ago. I agree. That performance is utterly stunning. Please react to that.
Adam Lambert is simply the best voice for any cross over…….ever well since Freddy.

Serious question - Even if every comment you've made on here were right, if every single thing you claim about him were true, why would you go around spoiling other people's joy? Why go around telling people who may not know the first thing about vocals and just simply enjoy his voice and love him singing anything that they're wrong? What possible motive could you have for for wanting to wade into the comment section, here and on twitter, to try to spoil people's enjoyment of something? When someone sees a show and goes on social media to share a video clip and say how much they loved it, why would you want to spoil that with negativity when you weren't there and have no reason to even comment? What makes a person want to "correct" everyone's subjective opinion of something? I'm genuinely curious, 12 years is a hell of a long time to keep this up.
@@rockchic65
Well, you are an impressionable wallflower if I can “spoil your joy” by criticizing a variety singer!
Not sure why you think it was bad but then I'm not a native speaker so maybe I'm missing something
fyi, adam used to sing in stage plays. he is a versatile singer.
A participation trophy at best.
@@papabearM3 Now you have been stalking Adam about this performance M3. You sure get around when it comes to Adam and your obvious jealousy of him.
I think Adam did a magnificent job. It was absolutely beautiful. But then again.....Why should anyone be surprised....after all.....it’s Adam Lambert,
@@carolhagerty4288 it's OK, they're just obsessed with Adam and can't yet admit they're a Glambert.. 😁🤣
Adam always makes suprise since Idol
Adam can do it all 😉
He has some pronunciation issues with the Italian, but it sounds better than when Pavarotti tried to sing pop songs in English- “I Leaff my Hearta in San Francisco” comes to mind.
Hahaha. Never heard that one.
@@papabearM3 Maybe you don’t but Adam Lambert does.😀
@@lararoostalu9318 👍👍Absolutely! Adam is a master at versatility.🎤🎶

I am trying to educate you, dumberts, a little about music and “how it works,” so that you don’t spout all sorts of nonsensical rubbish presenting it as facts.
Adam took my breath away 7 years ago and I still can not find myself. What?
Adam received training as a leggero tenor early on in his career! It is far more audible in his musical theatre recordings before American Idol.
Not as a leggiero tenor, he has no idea what that is by his own admission. He did have a lot of vocal training and around a year of opera training as a teenager though.
@@rockchic65 I saw a quote where it was said that was his repertoire training.
@@KajiVocals

@@rockchic65 I think Adam just doesn't like talking about it in technical terms. He said once he stopped studying voice it was really freeing for him.
@@valmacclinchy
Yeah I know he's said he rejected the "proper" way to sing when he wanted to learn how to do the rock scream high notes and his teacher said you can't actually teach that, but I doubt he would deny knowing what a leggiero tenor was if he knew. It's likely it never came up when he had lessons, it's possible that he is but you'd have to hear him doing a lot of classical music to classify him properly, and since he didn't pursue a classical career it doesn't really matter what he is for the kind of music he normally performs.
Jeder Kritiker kann sagen, was er will; für mich ist Adam unerreicht! In jeder Hinsicht.
