I don't "tear up..." I have far more emotional control than that; but I do very much enjoy listening to Mr. Pavarotti's voice when I want to hear opera, and I know his backstory as to how he became an opera singer. He'd be 87 years old if he was alive today.
I feel sorry for people who only know the fantastic Pavarotti! The other tenors singing in this concert weren’t capable of his level of singing, but to even argue that Pavarotti was the greatest tenor of all time shows such a paucity of information that i dk even know how to deal with it! Pavarotti’s IS one of the greatest tenors, but there are so many others who were great, so how can that be the statement after listening to ONE ARIA?? And this isn’t even his best performance of “Nessus Dorma,” lol! I’m sorry, but I’ve been listening to opera and studying voice for 5 decades, so my perspective is from the exact opposite side of the spectrum!
Don’t hate yourself for not having known him before. Just be grateful that you discovered him. And I know what you mean about having depression cured in three minutes. Keep exploring. ☺️
I agree to this comment, You discovered him, that's great! And my depression gets cured when I play The Queen of the Night's revenge aria, from The Magic Flute opera by Mozart :-)
we're all Italian when Pavarotti sings :) also do his La Dona e Mobile from the opera Rigoletto, his vocal range will stun you! Great reaction, it's never too late to discover the classics ❤❤
There's a video on TH-cam of La Dona e Mobile that continues on with Bella Figlia dell'amore ... with English subtitles th-cam.com/video/oMhB_jticKE/w-d-xo.html
I am Italian, if you don’t know it, I advice you to listen The maestro Luciano in the aria “vesti la giubba”(put the jacket literally, but means were the clown costume) of Paliacci opera. His voice and his acting mekes me cry every time! Is the story about a clown who realize that his wife had betrayed him…
He just blows you away every time you hear him…. Sadly he was gone far too soon…. He was magnificent and magical, you’ll get goose bumps every time you hear him ❤️ loved him so much….
Nessun Dorma is my very favorite. Luciano Pavarotti sings it with such intense emotion that I never fail to get chills and also weep a little with joy.
30 years ago I had the privilege to hear him live at the San Diego Sports Arena. Hearing him live is head and shoulders above seeing him in a recording. I could not understand a word that came out of his mouth but he was mesmerizing.
No, not really in general. The reason it was exceptional for him because of his age and heslt issues. People had been talking that his career would be over soon - media was sinply cruel. All the headlines and nasty interviews about his weight and so on. And the next year he did this - showed everyone how stupid they were. He probably was surprised he did _this_ well - it was the same way he sang in his absolute prime at the 70s and the 80s. He showed he was still able to do it. Which is very rare. The age usually slowly ”destroys” the opera singers voice (the muscles etc)
Luciano Pavarotti was THE Tenor of all tenors. It's just like you said... His voice takes you to another place and in that place, everything is beautiful. There will never be another one like him. His version of "Nessun Dorma" is it for me. No one else can come close to it.
May I ask how many operatic tenors have you listened to?? Have you heard of Enrico Caruso?? He figured out the same technique Pavarotti used, called “bel canto” (Italian, means “beautiful singing”), but Caruso never cancelled a performance because he was so confident in his technique. Pavarotti was famous for cancelling concerts, usually chalked up to illness, but if he wasn’t confident that he could “find” his technique before going onstage, he would cancel….it is an incredibly difficult, even freak-out inducing, way to sing. But there were other tenors who may not have had the gorgeous instruments Caruso and Pavarotti were born with, but they used the same technique and elicited the same visceral response from the audiences….they went wild! Leontyne Price, the great soprano, once had to stand onstage for *40 MINUTES* after singing an aria because the audience couldn’t stop applauding! And this happened many, many times with other singers, with Pavarotti’s idol Giuseppe di Stefano being one of them….he actually had to go back onstage to repeat arias after a long first ovation because the audience wouldn’t allow the opera to proceed until he did!
Very glad you opened your horizons..... We still find it amazing that people 35-40 younger weren't able to find different genres when younger. Keep looking a world of music is waiting.
i love watching people react to him for the first time because it remindsm e of when i heard him for the first time. he was a great tenorand his voice is sorly missed
One of the greatest tenors of all time! Viva Luciano!!!!! This is Puccini at his finest Fro the opera, Turandot, which is based on an old Chinese fairytale. That heavenly choir!!!!
Such a beautiful aria and performance - I am really happy to see your reaction - now go and listen to it alone all the way through- it never fails to give the same feeling you had the first time you heard it !
To many, myself included. the late, great Luciano Pavarotti, made this aria his own and set a benchmark that very few can even aspire to..! Fortunately thanks to techology the incredibly powerful voice and huge talent, will remain with us to appreciate and enjoy always. Truly Immortal...!!
I know Luciono Pavarotti almost 40 year. His first opera how i saw was Rigoletto on the German telivision broadcast. I have 3 cd's of him. Opera is zo great to hear. Then you haer the best voices of the world.
The look on your face says it all. I saw him perform several times in the early 70's, and he touched everyone the same way, no matter what their background!
As Humanity comes to grips with an Awakening, may I add that 'Nessum Dorma' means 'No-One Sleeps' this is from the great Opera 'Turandot' and speaks of a 'battle'. The last three phrases in the crescendo of this amazing Aria are these...'I WIN...I WIN...I WIN'...this...is TRUE talent..a gift from God imho. I'm nearly 70 and tear up listening to this...every time. I grew up on this type of music and I'm deeply grateful that I did. This wonderfully uplifting music should help your depression enormously...all the best.
WOW!! He really put something very special on the end of this song!! Don't feel guilty I didn't know who he was either and I used to watch all these types of shows.
Don't hate yourself. You can't possibly know everything. The fact that you got chills means you understood perfectly. It's amazing enough that somebody could write that music, and even more amazing that a human can sing like that.
Pavarotti helped me grieve for my father... I had a CD that I played in my car each time I went to visit him the nursing home..Thank you , you wonderful man..xxx
There are so many wonderful singers that a lot of us "hear for the first time" and we look with anticipation to hear what is going to come out of that "body", well surprise, surprise and we are "hooked" to a wonderful unknown singer.
Never interrupt what you are listening to for the first time. A piece of music or an opera aria has an arc, which you cut up in such cases and the effect will be much worse. You are depriving yourself of an experience that is whole, fascinating and liberating for the soul. I'm 70 years old and I've been going to the opera since I was 8 years old, but to this day I still get tears in my eyes from this aria and it's in front of me when I first heard it as a child. It wasn't Pavarotti who sang it then, but Puccini's music is eternal and fascinating.
I am an opera fany whole life, went and still do. I have seen many operas performences, and have seen Luciano in person He once stated that God has touched his vocal cords with His hands. I believe God really did do that. Sing, Luciano, sing. The souls in heaven, angels archangels and of course God , are listening.
I was lucky enough to see and hear him performe this and much more live in Amsterdam around the time this aired. On Queensday in the Arena in Amsterdam, the Queen and her family was there as well. He was from another planet. So beautifull❤️
What gets me every time is the (seemingly) effortless way he moves through his phrasing. Even when he gets a little red faced, he makes it seem normal.
When I listen to this, I am listening to the most perfect performance I have ever heard in my life. I've always loved this piece, but this particular performance by Pavarotti is divine. There are many performances of many great songs and pieces, but there is nothing that will surpass this. What I love about this, is the end and the look on Pavarotti's face. He loved it and he knows how amazing it was.
PAVAROTTI WAS THE GREATEST TENOR WHO LIVED ON THIS PLANET. HE HAS PASSED AWAY BUT THANK GOD WE HAVE HIS MUSIC WHICH IS ETERNAL. RIP LUCIANO. LOL FROM USA.
I just came across your channel just now, and was very moved by your reaction!! It really toughed me!!! I cannot wait to see your other reactions!!! Soo excited!!!! Keep on being genuinely you!!!!!!

If you don’t know Pavarotti I suggest that you also watcch “The Three Tenors in Concert 1990 - José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti with conductor Zubin Mehta.” It was wonderful and I remember the BBC saying that they had never had so many requests for a repeat performance.

Arguably the greatest tenor ever. I tear up every time I hear this. without even knowing a single word he says. The emotion is so strong.

Pavarotti, O Solo Mio.
Being young gives time for discovery!❤
You don't have to be an opera fan to love this! Absolutely incredible.
“My depression has been cured for three minutes” - that was a wonderful reaction. Hopefully more than three minutes buddy! 🤗

He was 72. That's about the average age of most people to live.
A song you can listen to five times a day for the rest of your life and never tire of it.

Not possible to have two "greatest" of any one kind. Both Pavarotti and Caruso were great tenors, each in his own way.
