I've just finished my first year and whilst it felt overwhelming at first it "clicks" pretty quickly. One thing I'm surprised they haven't done is add regular "new servers" where people can only use one character that has to be newly created and is locked there. This would give new (and old) players the chance to see the game grow, perhaps it wouldn't even be connected to the global version of the GE, just a local one. If for no other reason, I'd love to see how people chose to start from fresh in 2024 and how the economy develops from a standing start. The things us newbs missed out on.
I played brighter shores than came to Runescape 3, did I do it backwards lol? The game is overwhelming but I love the freedom. If there was a more guided option I would love it!
New player here, I was told the grand exchange was a quick way to buy items from other players. I'm coming from other games that show the seller and makes it obvious if someone if merching or trying to crash an item. Where can I see the individuals selling the items at different prices to pick from and if I make an item can I see my "mark" on it to show I made it?
I don't believe there's a way of doing, and honestly I don't see why would you want to. You simply put an offer and hope it sells/buys. You can visit the GE site tho, it'll show you the fluctuations in price for a specific item
Hi @grundlefairy, I'd like to take a few minutes to answer your questions. To start, the Grand Exchange (commonly referred to as the GE) is the best place to buy and sell items in the entirety of the game. Back before the GE was in the game, players interacted similar to how you are alluding to where they directly traded items/bartered with each other for everything the game had to offer. This is still done to this day, but in special circumstances normally reserved for rare items. The GE can be found north of Varrock, a hub city so to speak. When you click on a grand exchange clerk, an interface opens up with buy and sell options. When you buy something, the game (through a automatically adjusting price system) assigns the item a market value. You can choose to submit a purchase for an item at market value and may receive it, or you can choose to subtract money from your offer or add it instead. Somewhere in the game, someone has to be selling that item in their grand exchange "sell" boxes in order for you to purchase it. Most items, I'd say 95% or higher, will purchase at their market price in the GE. When you are selling something, it's advisable to sell at market price if not slightly lower if you need cash quicker. You can choose to sell higher than market price, but run the chance of never selling your item or the market price decreasing, making your item even more over priced. As a seller, the GE also taxes you on all sales. This is a primary reason that older, rarer, more expensive items are hand traded. Players avoid the tax! To your last question, it's unfortunately impossible to put your "mark" on an item. When you've sold it, it could have gone to anyone anywhere, and you are likely to never see your item again, not that you'd know, since every item of a certain type looks identical. One way around this is Ironman Mode, where you do everything yourself and cannot trade other players... But that is for more experienced players and I would not recommend it to someone new. However, if you are interested, I have been playing RS for 22+ years and currently play on an Ironman. My username is "Hide", feel free to PM me any and all questions. I'd love to help. Happy Scaping!
