regarding your photo album idea - I have to recommend Chatbooks!! it's super affordable, the app is easy to use, you can print monthly books, go back in time, do current months, etc. it's SO EASY and I feel like I finally use all of the photos that just end up sitting on my phone! not to mention, once you get a collection going - it looks great on a shelf. honestly you would LOVE IT!!

My daughter just had my first grand baby on the 24th. At the beginning of her pregnancy I was able to give her the journal I started the day I found out I was pregnant with HER. She followed along, reading it as her pregnancy progressed at the corresponding weeks. It prompted her to start one for her sweet baby girl too! Maybe someday she’ll be able to give both of them to her daughter. 🥰. Oh, and I started a grandmother’s journal for my granddaughter from the day we found out my daughter was pregnant. I’m going to record all our sweet adventures.
Jess inspired me to start a journal for my three month old son just now. I’m going to fill it with all the precious things I say to him that make me cry. I’m going to ask others to add to it, like a guest book. I like the vision board idea. Spiral bound notebooks are great for putting the clippings on the front, and printed pictures on the back showing how you fulfilled those visions, or the other way around. Congratulations on your first grandchild!

The whole journal part totally spoke to me! trying to write a journal for years. I am 48 and I finally figured out. Just write it ….put it all in. It’s funny, how many roadblocks that we put up for our own selves just don’t need to be there❤️ I also like your thoughts about why you’re using a writing journal versus computer and I have often wondered which form and I think the writing is so wonderful because many of us to spend so much time online. It’s a good way to break that up for us to get away from screens.
I’m a high school English teacher- in my English education class, our professor told us to have our students (anyone) decorate the first page of their writers notebook with pictures, stickers, photographs, etc. something to make it more personal and enjoyable when you open it. She made us all make our own and it’s the only journal I ever consistently wrote in!! I have my students do it too. There’s something about personalizing the notebook that makes you return back to it ❤
She also is the one who told us WRITE ANYTHING! It can be a specific prompt, a vent session, poetry, one day some doodles, if you are writing a story to brainstorm, etc. they’re meant for all type of writing.
Yes!! I was taught this for my elementary education degree for teaching students writing and so my students always decorated their notebooks too!!

Hey Jess! I love the idea of doing physical photo albums, so I do one every year too! I always use Pinhole Press because I LOVE the quality, it has thick paper, your photos are nicely printed, and you can choose what color fabric binding you want. I feel like an ad, but I really do love them lol

I do the yearly photo book thing! I use Chatbooks because it's a little less overwhelming than Shutterfly. I do one page spread for each month & will add pages for any other very special occasions. It really is so special to look back on those memories!

My god that Magic Keyboard/ iPad combo was my best purchase of 2022!!! It was pricey but life changing. I use it everyday! Im a FT student now and the notes I take and how I work in general has improved 1000%. If anyone is considering it, don’t walk…RUN. You will have no regrets. (I also have my digital planner on it, really all-in-one device for organizing your life.) 🎉

For the photo idea - my family started making a calendar via Shutterfly where we go through each month of photos on our phones and make a collage for each month. We still use a traditional wall calendar, plus it makes a wonderful gift for other members of our family.

I love making basically a modern commonplace book--a catchall for journaling, writing the book passages and lyrics I love, writing ideas, and anything that catches my fancy. Its become a low stakes way to capture my life and is a good reference for when I need to look for certain quotes or ideas. Its like bullet journaling without the stress of making perfect layouts--just a book of everything that matters to me at the point of writing it down (and helps me plan out my book annotations)
We do the same thing for family photos, one book per year of all the favorites printed out. I call it the family yearbook!

I impulse bought the Magic Keyboard when I bought my iPad. Absolutely zero regrets. I treat this thing like a laptop. I especially love responding to texts (I wish it was all texts, not just other iPhone users) by typing rather than doing it on my phone.
Hi, you can receive messages and calls from non iPhone users. go into settings on iPad and click send and receive option and you can modify it.

Two things: I have done a family yearbook for the last few years and love it! I also do separate ones for vacations. (I find Snapfish to be the most user-friendly.) We love pulling them out to look at, and I’ll generally have a few out on the coffee table when we have family over because they enjoy looking at them too. Also, I recently got a digital picture frame. I like to change out our framed photos seasonally (beach pictures during the summer, etc.) but it gets old! 😂 So I’ve created digital albums and I just seasonally change that and keep the regular framed photos “season-neutral” if you will.
I suffer from cystic acne and I have STRUGGLED with my skin care and confidence and I can tell you that watching your videos and trying some of your makeup and skin care recs have changed my life. It's given me the confidence to branch out and try new things! I love your videos and I love seeing that sweet little babe in the background! ❤️

I am working on a scrapbook for my daughter. She's 25. That's how long it took me to get around to it. LOL but she's gonna love it when she finally sees it.
I use my journal as a Bible journal as well starting during the pandemic. It was interesting to see my thoughts/journaling and the Bible verses that kept me going Thru that particular time ☀️☀️
I love the idea of doing a photo book for each year. I have a 9 year old who loves looking at pictures and I think he would love having them. I love this vlog, it's like just sitting and having a conversation with you, because in real life conversations are random and move from topic to topic. ❤️

If there was ever a Vlog that I wished was a conversation with you, it was this one! I just bought those exact notebooks, I just had the same Epiphany about getting projects done that will only take about five minutes, but you keep putting them off, and I also just started doing the same thing with my photos. I do print them and put them in a book myself as sometimes I think for a digital book takes longer than just printing the pictures and putting them on the page. I used to scrapbook, but now I’ve just made it much simpler.

We do a Shutterfly book for every calendar year. Shutterfly usually does a sale in January for unlimited pages and it’s super simple!

I’ve used chat books for years. One book for every month, 4x6 paper books. You upload every month, 30 pictures from your phone. Theyn they send you a little book. They aren’t archival quality- but they get them off my phone and out where we can enjoy them. Idk how it happened, but each album cover is a nature photo I’ve taken. Love love love Chatbooks!!

Your Journaling rant spoke volumes to me. Up until this year I always had rules and separate journals. One for day to day, one for reflection and goals, one for prompted journal entries and this year I finally started just using a very nice journal to put in all of it because like you said, nobody else is reading it. It has turned out to be quite freeing. Just thought I'd let you know I resonate with how you feel about journals
As someone who also works from home in front of a screen all day and does influencer stuff online, I love physically writing by hand in journals. I love it anyway no matter what though. I have several different types of journals.

I love your little photo printing rant....I started this in 2017. Every Chrisrmas break when my kids and I are off school (I homeschool them), I collect all photos from mine and my hubby's phones, from anywhere else, organize them into folders on our external hard drive and then make a photobook for that year. It takes work, but let me tell you, every one of my kids pulls out the books to look at them, extended family loves to when they come over. Time well spent! You will never regret!
I have a “journal” I don’t really write in it but I guess a more scrapbook with it. And I have a lot of pictures from cd booklets, the dvd cases of movies, magazines, etc and it gives me a way to actually enjoy having these pictures and being able to be creative and showcase them somewhere. Because most of the time I just stash away my cds and stuff and so I can’t really look through everything and enjoy the photos. I also do the same with cute makeup packaging

I like to hand write my journal too, but I don’t always carry my journal around with me. I always have my iPad with me, so I started to hand write on my iPad. Get the pencil to use with your iPad. It magnetizes to the iPad. I like to use the Good Notes app and I also use One Note. I use those for work (I’m a teacher) and I use it at home. I have the Magic Keyboard as well, and I’ve been loving all of it!! Should have switched a long time ago!

Ah, journaling. My thoughts-no rules, no guidelines, no restrictions, any thought goes. Don’t overthink it. Whatever you’re thinking or feeling at that moment, jot it down. Circling back to it later in life may give you an “ah ha” moment, a giggle or an insight as to what brought you to where you are in the present/future. Enjoy!

On the note of your photos - the other thing you could do is upload your photos to a digital picture frame! Bought one for my mom for Christmas a few years ago that goes through a display of all of our current/past pets! It’s adorable, great way to display a large variety of pictures and you don’t have to print them all out!

I always do our photo printing around Mother’s Day. It’s perfect timing to make gifts for the occasion as well. I’d recommend looking into a service like Chatbooks or similar for all those photos on your phones that you mention

When I removed all rules from my journal I finally actually started writing in it! I remind myself from time to time there are NO RULES in my journal. I can write anything and everything or nothing. Total game changer. 😊

What I do with all my photos is back them up on my computer and then put them on flash drives. We even have a small fireproof safe we keep them in (among other important documents).

Ever since I had my daughter, I’ve been using Chatbooks for our family photos. It syncs with your Instagram/Facebook/etc. and creates 60 page picture books automatically for you. So it’s pretty perfect if you post a lot of your favorites to social media, but you can also go in and add/delete/change things manually if you want to. And then it automatically prints and ships the book as soon as you hit 60! My daughter loves them!

I've been journaling since middle school and it's such an invaluable tool. I make lists in mine all the time, in between writing out thoughts and feelings. It really doesn't have rules, and I'm glad you're finding your way into that mindset. 💓
Cvs has an app for photo printing, i save some favorites every month. I go through and i pick my few favorites, like any special events? Or just a really cute picture captured !

About 3 years ago, I bought my family a journal called "some lines a day" by LEUCHTTURM. Each page is one day with 5 sections, and you write a few lines. We write about the kids, things in the house breaking/getting fixed, milestones etc...
It's really been cool when you hit the next year and see what you wrote in the previous years.
Gonna order the makeup bag since I'm in the military and it looks pretty useful (not just for makeup but anything I need to travel with)

Photo Book tip! I 'heart' my memorable pics. This past November Shutterfly's website was constantly promoting 50% off of photo books. I hadn't printed in almost ten years. I decided to upload my favorites album for the last three years 😮. Went through to delete some. Then went for it. Going forward I am hearting pics with the next photo book in mind
I do a yearly photo project too, except it's not an album. Instead I make a calendar so we can see all that we did in that particular month a year ago. It's my fun scrapbook project but I also use it as an opportunity to clear out a bunch of pictures from the cloud! I've been doing it for a few years now and I like it because it's functional too! But you do need to be pretty selective in the pictures you want to add.

When you started talking about photos, I thought about this start up that was on Shark Tank...Groove Book. Turns out they were acquired by Shutterfly. They had a monthly service where you could send photos & they'd put together books for you. Going to check it out now.
Have also been thinking of getting one of those photo printers that works with your cell phone....just wasn't sure of quality of the photos.
I used to print photos @ the self service kiosks at Target but they closed them all down (at least where I live) after the pandemic.
When you print a book on Shutterfly it also gives you the option to print all of the photos you used as 4x6!
I also do a “birthday book.” I make sure to take their photo with all family members and friends at the party to include in the birthday book, as well as snapshots and any professional photos taken that year. The kids LOVE looking back on their birthday books.
Try a pencil box/pouch for traveling with brushes. Game changer for me

I’ve been journaling every day since the beginning of Covid. I’ve included cartoons, sayings, pictures, etc. along with the entries. When you mentioned the collage on the front it reminded me of when I did one on my reading journal when I taught. I had my students do one to that told about themselves.
I too love that Elf foundation. I have been wearing it a lot! I'm so glad you talked about journaling. I have been a writer for thirty years. The amount of empty journals in my house is crazy, because when I was younger people gave them to me as gifts. It took me awhile to realize after writing or editing or creating all day the last thing I wanted to do was write more!! Lol. So, there you go.

I do yearly Shutterfly books for my boys, and they turned out great! I’m not a huge scrapbooker, but Shutterfly makes it really easy. I love going back and looking at them and I think they’ll be great keepsakes for my boys when they’re older. Definitely recommend doing that. They also make good gifts for grandparents.😊
