      @@AlaskanBallistics it absolutely is. You cant get TRUE .357 mag performance unless you use the pre 1988 data for it, bc SAAMI (at the request of Sissy & Whining) lowered the pressure limit from 41,000 cup down to 35,000 cup bc of that candyassed model 19 (yes, I said it, and will again) couldnt handle full house .357 loads without beating it to death. The correct legal and scientific way to measure barrel length is between breech and muzzle. Because of tradition black magic and voodoo revolver barrel length as commonly expressed ignores this and counts only the rifling. Therefore in order to get a usable comparison you need to add or subtract the Proximal 2" + or - length of the revolvers cylinder when comparing pistols and revolvers barrel lengths. Things can be further skewed by the fact that there are far more So called 4-in barrel revolvers than 6" barreled pistols.

    • @AlaskanBallistics

    RE 9mm 16" hand loads I did a test to see how deep max loads were in 9mm with blue dot & power Pistol ... with bl dot they would be compressed as much as I think is workable . With Pwr Pist only a TINY bit compressed , I like that better . The other choice between the 2 in speed is Herco , ( I don't have any ) that looked to be a great choice in that max loads are low PSI Vs Pow Pist >> near max PSI . . & low weight = likely not compressed & more room for heavy bullets , I want to go with 124 or 147 JHPs if possible . MAX for Power Pist = 1,095 fps with 147gr XTP & 1,175 with 124gr JHP +/- in a 4" barrel . bl dot = 1,050 fps in 4" with 147gr XTP & 1,150 with a 124gr jhp +/- from all my testing with 44 sp I am 100% sure the Bl dot would do much more Vel in a 16" brl . I could try some 115 gr , not sure that is a good idea ?? they may blow up .

  • @clayrock2887

    I owned a 10mm first and I loved it to me it kicked less than a 45 but was way more power with a flatter trajectory
    But the cons were I could never find ammo and when I did it was just a hot 40 cal not a true 10mm so I ended up selling it and I got a 357 mag
    Now with the 357 mag I got a 4 inch Taurus with 7 shot cylinder and I got about the same performance as the 10mm with cheaper price ammo and more full power loads were available with the reliability of a revolver . Yes 7 shots is less than 15+1 but I don't plan on unloading 15 rounds in a self defense situation and I seem to be able to reach out further with the 357 if I absolutely needed too and for home defense I load 38s
    It just has so many options for me but I'd still take a 10mm in a heart beat

      180gr was never 1500, it was closer to 1300. I might pull the bullets and load them up hot

      @@AlaskanBallistics I have always been under the impression that the original loading for 10mm was 180 grain bullet at 1500 fps, like a lot of the Underwood loadings.
      So much 10mm out there now mimics .40 cal.

      Yeah to get 1500 fps you've got to be in a 155gr or less...

    357 load is loaded pretty light. The 10mm load is ridiculously slow. performance......ok I suppose but not great. In the barrel lengths used the 357 load should be loaded to achieve 1500 fps and the 10mm should be able to achieve 1300.

    • @AlaskanBallistics
      @AlaskanBallistics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 10mm shouldn't get 1500 in that barrel length. 1300, sure. 1500 that's exceeding all max pressures for a 175gr. If I find another box of these i should pull the bullets and handload them.

    • @frankbrowning328
      @frankbrowning328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AlaskanBallistics I think you misunderstood my comment. The 357 load should do 1500 in this barrel length and the 10mm should do 1300. Yes, that would be a cool video

    Any ideal why springfield brought out 2 awesome 10mm pistols then turned around and discontinued them? The 4.5 and 5.3 xdms?

    1 load compared to 1 other load says nothing about the cartridges in general.
