Jak 2 ditches the Daxter part of the name, separating itself from the tone of Jack and Daxter. Whereas the former was a bit more lighthearted, the sequel focuses on different gameplay styles and more cinematic storytelling. But don't worry, there's still plenty of Daxter. This is what a sequel should be. Something that innovates and pushes the spirit of the game and characters to new dimensions. What was once a adventurous platformer we have a darker-toned action adventure with weapons, vehicles, and PLOT! Is it a fresh take? Let's find out.

My best friend, my father, 100% of the first game. He loved the old school Platformers. And it made me feel special when I was a kid because he needed my help 100% in this. Now that I think about it he probably didn't actually need my help you is just making me feel good about myself... I love you too and I miss you so much...❤

The OST of Jak 2 is so good. Love how the games music evolves based on what your doing in the world.
It still gets stuck in my head to this day

Never found this game hard but christ I hated some of the missions, still a masterpiece of a game to this day
The race to the stadium against Errol still makes me RAGE to this day
I found it hard in places my first run but eventually replayed the game so much i could do them no problem.
That turret section killed my invincible hero run though :c

Needs to fix it's check points on certain missions but other than that I agree

Oh man, I suggested this game! Probably a tell to how much I love Jak 2 (and 3). The animation quality just jumps incredibly and still looks fantastic today, although they still have issues with Dark Jak's horns in cutscenes for some reason. Daxter especially looks fantastic and I love the story and characters who are all memorable.
Next you should do more ratchet and clank and you should do sly cooper thieves in time

Is it though? The whole series is on the PSplus service now. I don't even think ratchet and clank made it onto there. I feel like the service is today's greatest hits so they're popular enough
@@zacziggarot they’ve long ported the ratchet games to the ps4 and who knows what games will be next on the new ps service.

Is not that the series as underrated, it's just that the developers don't know what to do with it.

He definitely needs to learn that move for Jak 3 at the very least. Spin jump shoot + Beam Reflexor is how you win that game.
It's kind of a waste of ammo. Sure, it's flashy and awesome but the ammo drain isn't usually worth it since base enemies die in a couple shots and the bigger beasties slap a quarter of your health away before you can get close enough to pull the move off
@@jeremyallen492 well It's easier to do it like that and there is aimos everywhere, but whatever, going back to Jak&Dax, the best duo ever, feels really good

Good god I remember beating that drill platform mission in Hero Mode. Still have freaking Nam flashbacks of it....

Did he not count mission failure as a death? Even then the death count sounds like a bit of a stretch unless he's played it a few times

They made a standalone game for Daxter called "Daxter" for the PSP which basically explains how he manages to save Jack.
I always found that cool they made a game based on what Daxter did
Managed to platinum all 3 games on the PS3 several years ago. Jak 2 was definitely the hardest for me though.

I remember this game being dark, like I was surprised as a kid since Jak and Daxter was so much fun/light but that being said this game was meant to grow with the ones who played Jak and Daxter. So many games try to stay the same to a point of being boring, but at least the developers realized a change was needed and it was different, though competing with games like ratchet and clank of the time really kept this game in the background. I feel like this game also missed some things that made the original Jak and Daxter so memorable, the characters fell flat for me in this game and even though it was more open world I felt lost into what to do at the age. I also didn't remember the scenery as much when compared to the original. I loved Jak and Daxter very much growing up, so I am glad to see new videos on it to keep it alive! This era of games really was one of my favorites, so thank you!
Still one of my all time favourites, I remember being heartbroken back in the day when I completed this game because I was so involved in the world and story.

Great video Jirard! Will never understand how you're still alive the completion, considering this is one of the most difficult "platformers" I have ever played. Wish the reward was bigger.
I’ll never forget how confused I was when I first saw gameplay of this. It is so different from the first game it’s unreal. I never did end up finishing it, I remember having a lot of trouble getting past some of the missions back in the day.

Jak 2 was my favorite R&C game.
Seriously, for all he says about how unique the game is, I can't help but be reminded of the nearly-identical mixture of third-person shooter and beat-em-up mechanics.
Love that bookcase full of games in the background. I started collecting games from my childhood, and have like a super small bookcase filled.

The Jack and dexter series is one of my altime favorites, I really wish it makes a comeback

Took me 3 days to get round to watching this one, but really glad you got to Jak 2! I remember playing this game at my friend's house and it was really fun.
Took me a while to figure out what music was used during the inspiring Indie Land Advert. I knew I had heard it but couldn't place my finger on it, but then eventually realizing it's from The Messenger during the Sunken Ship Shrine. Mwahaha! I remembered!

I was afraid that the game’s difficulty would make you want to hate it and stop playing, but I’m happy to see that it didn’t. Great job once again Completionist! Can’t wait until you do Jak 3.

No disrespect. These two are my mascots forever and Sly builds more than innovates or breaks formula, but maybe that part is just preference.

Jak 3 was my favorite (beat it), Jak 2 fun but couldn't beat it still liked it, and never got to play it.
I've technically beaten jak 2 on my own but with mar skip because of the missions destroy ship in drill platform and hunt down Metal Heads in Haven forest

Oh don't get me started on the "escape the oracle place with all those bazillion guards dropping in all time". I can't even count how many tries I gave that mission, now matter how many times I play it but that turret mission is something else

hell YES. the race out of the city into the slums kicked my ass so many times when I was a kiddo.
Thank Jirard for bringing good memories back,also the mission where you have to find one third of the seal and all the guards start popping up. You can skip the fighting using the jet board but it takes a lot of precision jumps,avoid hitting the guards and avoid falling into the water.

Man, I really wanted to like Jak 2, but as a huge Ratchet and Clank fan, it drove me insane that you can't strafe!
I have a like and hate relationship with Jak 2 & 3, and the gun combat without strafing was something I only kind of got used to when completing the story of 2 and stuck on the boss of 3.

My sister and I played Jak 2 when it came out when we were kids, but all I remember is the scary torture/dark hulk cutscene and the racing sections (which led me to believe, for so long, that we had a Jak Racing game).
getting goose bumps watching this!! this series had a huge impact on my life and from the comments it seems im not the only one.
One of the few games that was able to mane the “edgy” switch without feeling stupidly try hard.

That's true, Jak X was from Naughty Dog, but I never played it as a kid. I actually just picked it up recently, but I need to get a replacement PS2 to actually try it out.

Once you realise that the punch into blaster combo is OP (it fires 3 blaster shots in the time it usually takes to fire one shot) there aren't that many challenging segments, it's just a shame the game never communicated that past the initial tutorial.
@@duckwantbreads That is true but the escort sewer mission and the Erol race still bring back memories of torment... By Erol's race i mean going for gold under 2:07:00 oh my gosh this mission.... Not as scared of it now but damn, it required near perfection
