Great video mate, I just turned 38 and looking to refresh my entire wardrobe. I have learned a few things on my pushing 40 refresh mission. 1.Chinos are more versitle than jeans 2.Minimal look is best, no logos, branding on anything 3.Buy 'made to last' items, investment pieces 4.
If you think about it, this stuff basically cost the same as sports pants/sweats, cargo shorts etc... but style and look wise is day and night, not even a conversation and comparison. Then vneck, or polo, or dress short, or cardigan, then leather sneakers, moccasins, loafers, finish off with non metal wrist bracelet and necklace, both let say from cloths/leathers, and your style beats 95% of men.
I am a fan of Chinos and I could say I feel great wearing them. It's me... It defines me... It reflects who I am. Thanks for this video. It opened my eyes to try other style or colours.
Thank you very much, i am a South African recently turned 39 and your videos have made a good impact in my life as they say life begins at 40 well with you on my side i guess will make a good impression at 40, thank you so much. Walton.
I'm 14 years below the minimum age demographic conveyed in the title but I like what I've watched thus far. Timeless style without being trendy which is how I prefer to dress even in my mid 20s.
I don't know why guys are afraid of PINK. It's an interesting fresh colour and is looking great on you mate. If the fabric is good and the fit is perfect, there's no reason to be scared. Thumbs up from me!!!
Guys, don’t sleep on the Goodfellow brand from Target. I have several of their slim fit chinos. Can’t beat the price and quality. And Jeff, the StyleOG is a huge fan also. Great video!
Jeans through and through. Chinos definitely a sign of dad clothing according to my son!!! As long as you are feeling confident in what you wear,it’s all good
I've been killing with clothes from Target for years. A few accessories and people always think my clothes are more expensive than they are. JCPenney has a brand called J Ferrar that I like and Stacy Adams. Good options if you're starting out and don't want to break the bank. Just have to know how to coordinate.
I've been wearing several pairs of Chino by George, from Walmart, and they've held up much better then I expected. They look good, are dressy enough, I can wear pretty much everything I have right now. I also appreciate that you didn't push the expensive stuff, While it's nice to be able to afford better quality stuff, (Which usually translates into more expensive) Most of us don't have that budget, but still, want to look good, and dress as well as we can. As much as I hate to say, sometimes Walmart is our only choice for a variety of reasons. Location, ability to travel, no other stores around, etc.
Great call on the Target Chinos...Actually think I like them better than the $70 J Crew ones I usually get at 1/3 the price...These will be my new go to work pants.
I bought a pair of the Target Good Fellow chinos the other day. I really like them. Run small but the 36 is like finding that elusive size 35, which is nice. I can’t believe they were only $22. I would definitely recommend these
Hey Jon, instead of the chinos you showed would you think it appropriate for me to substitute Haggar style pants like Dickies work pants? (I'm a big guy -six foot/230lbs)...they fit me better.
I'm 62 and enjoy watching your videos. My size is 36 34 and I hate the high water pants look. I generally avoid 100% or high cotton content due to shrinkage. I wash in cold water and hang dry. I prefer approx 60/40 polyester/ cotton mix to combat shrinkage. If I bought larger size and washed in hot water and dried in dryer how far up would I have to go to shrink to fit? Could you do a video on combating shrinkage?
My favorite brand and fit for chinos are those from Ben Sherman, they are hard to come by but are so worth it. J Crew and Banana Republic also make great fitting chinos.
I bought some Express pants after watching this video. I wish I hadn't: the pants are actually not bad, but Express is spamming my email with ads every-single-day. I have "unsubscribed" about 20 times over 45 days. I called the customer support and they hung up on me: the call didn't disconnect, they put me on hold, then forwarded me to the end-of-call survey. BUT- I still love the channel and keep the videos coming.
Look out for online coupons from the Gap or Banana Republic. You can always find Chino's on sale or in the clearance section. Plus The Gap & Banana Republic factory stores are very reasonable.
I got a pair of the Goodfellow chinos at Target last fall in a sort of golden tan color and I wanted to get some in the dark teal as well but they didn't have my size so I opted for a pair of their slim fit wool blend dress pants instead and I have really liked them. The only drawback is that I noticed after a few wearings some pilling of the fabric in the crotch area. A fabric shaver took care of that.
Question. I bought traveler chinos and regular chinos from banana republic. The traveler chinos has pockets in the front where as regular chinos have them on the side. The traveler chinos are hybrids, Chino/Jean. Which one would u recommend? Pockets on the front or the sides??
I discovered the Target chinos after dropping hundreds of dollars on Bonobos chinos! I could kick myself for overlooking them. The tapered cut is the best! I wish I could take the Bonobos back. Fellas, go try on the Target chinos.
I find if I buy things with elastane the right size in the shop, they are baggy after wearing them for an hour or two. It seems as if they need to be too tight when tried in the changing room.
I like Target's chino. I also like Brooks Brother's Red Fleece line. I tried Peter Manning, but there is something about their fit that doesn't feel right on my body. So much of selecting a chino is about matching the cut, fabric, price, etc. to a particular body type, I'm thinking.
Not over 40 I’m 18 but I love wearing chinos and a polo shirt they are just super comfortable and I can dress it up if I need to (always tucked though)
Nice choices but I didn't like the black sneaker with that I think it would look better with a navy or maybe a white sneaker with it. Definitely going to check out express and Target
Great ideas John. Would have been nice if u had white sneaker or loafer/double monks. I got slim fit Uniqlos at about 30usd here. Fitted very well. I stand at 6'1" with shoes and the length was just nice.
I liked the diffrent chino colors. Hmmm chino can be tricky i had a few both flat front & pleated front some where to frumpy and others where too short in the cruach or just to boxy on me . Good video. 🖒
The Style O. G Recommended your channel. Great video. I am going to stick around, being a may over 40 who appreciates style and not flash. Oh, I dig the sneakers...I just pick up a pair of black leather sneakers....whatcha wearing?
Hey, thanks for being here! The sneakers in this video are a super cheap pickup from Zara. Not top quality at only $40, but they'll tide me over until I get a new pair of Greats.
Brooks brothers chinos are my go to ( own every color they made ). I don't wear blue Jean's so these are my casual go to pants wear as a 66 year old...
Jon, good information. There isn't a part of me that fits into a skinny anything. That being said, I have found Lucky Brand products to be quality and very comfortable to wear. They aren't the cheapest, but are worth the extra coin. And they work well in a casual work environment.
Thank you, Jon. Your videos and detail to the content are just brilliant. I also like how you share the sizes, as sizes are always different from each vendor or designer. I also enjoyed the recent content on the belts. Joe
Hi ! Quick Question ! Can one still find a pair of chino's with 100% cotton so one doesn't have to always ware a belt or suspenders to keep them at your waist when ever you sit or squat ?
Chinos are usually a crotch vise. Haven’t found a pair that fit yet. Plus if you drive to work, the sit scars make it look like you’ve been wearing the pants for over a week.
Great content on your channel. I recently discovered your channel and am very happy that I did. I am a hairstylist in my 50’s and always try to stay on trend with fashion but appropriately dressed for my age but not looking like I am trying to hard to fit in. I love clothes and have two walk-in closets full. So finding you was a great find. Thank you.
Hey John, I picked up a pair of the American Eagle chinos in British tan this morning. Perfect fit in a 34/34. Like the jeans, they feel like they were made for me. Mine are the “Next Level Flex” slim model, and they were on sale at 40% off!
I like The colours of all presented chinos. As a very slim and short guy i know the are too wide and baggy below the knee . Always need tailored on lenght and width so frustrating. Skinny most of time are good below the knee but to tight in tights and butt area
Awesome content.. fashion on a budget is very important for myself so budget options are much appreciated. Keep it coming. These are great ideas. I’d like to see something more for the manly man.I would appreciate if you can do a video on that
I love my chinos from express. Funny thing, I just bought some face moisturizer at Target that is also Goodfellow Co and I love it! I might have to go back and try the Chinos. One can never have too many colors 😁
I bought two pairs of Target chinos in the spring and they fit great but by the fall I noticed them being short. So I stretched them out beside my Haggar Work to Weekend pants and Levi's jeans that I've owned for years. The Target chinos were two inches shorter. The Levi's and Haggar's were washed many more times than. the Target and I always wash in cold and dry on low heat but the target chinos shrunk so much I had to give them to charity.

I am 53 from northest INDIA , stylists Jan in INDIA, YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON. YOU KNOW WHAT WE WANT. Thank you.
I am a fan of Chinos and I could say I feel great wearing them. It's me... It defines me... It reflects who I am. Thanks for this video. It opened my eyes to try other style or colours.
Well done as always Jon. Really like the burgundy ones from American Eagle. Appreciate the mention as well!
Thanks for the comment Jeff! I probably wouldn't have discovered Goodfellow if you hadn't mentioned them in your videos.
appreciate the content from both of you dudes
Spot on! Picked up a couple pair of good fellows and love them.
The blue ones fit so good. They definitely look like the most expensive ones, perfect fit! Who knew they would be from Target!
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much, i am a South African recently turned 39 and your videos have made a good impact in my life as they say life begins at 40 well with you on my side i guess will make a good impression at 40, thank you so much. Walton.
Thank you Walton!

That’s ok Jerry I’m 30 years over
I don't know why guys are afraid of PINK. It's an interesting fresh colour and is looking great on you mate. If the fabric is good and the fit is perfect, there's no reason to be scared. Thumbs up from me!!!
Simple, it's a feminine color.
It stains easy and it's not as versatile as other colors so it's like the last color you would want to get, when it comes to pants.
Great video John. I like that you keep it real unlike other youtubers who push high price items
Thanks Art! Always appreciate your comments my friend!
Guys, don’t sleep on the Goodfellow brand from Target. I have several of their slim fit chinos. Can’t beat the price and quality. And Jeff, the StyleOG is a huge fan also. Great video!
Thank you! Jeff is the one that turned me onto them.
I prefer the navy blue pant. It looks good on you. Thanks for sharing.
Great video John, much appreciated. I’m new to your channel. Living it. Thanks
Awesome, thank you!
Jeans through and through. Chinos definitely a sign of dad clothing according to my son!!!
As long as you are feeling confident in what you wear,it’s all good
Love the style advice from the Style OG.

Man, I miss those stores..
I live in SE Asia. I grew up in the states.. Visited 2-3 times afterwards.
Well done sir! I dig your low key laid back vibe. The Target brand was indeed a find! I too have over spent on Bonobos. Thanks for the great tips!
Hey Kenneth, I'm not made of money, so I do what I can. Thanks for your comment!
UK based here! I agree we have' George 'at Asda here, i find them just as good as any other 😁
What I like best is that the shirt matches all the chinos.
I got Gap chinos in slim fit and I'm 56!'They suit my shape and waist!
Smart looking gentleman! Clear explanation and well presentation. Superb introduction of chinos. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for showing this. It helps as I am in my 50s and trying to dress up a little to look more presentable.
Im in the same situation
Great call on the Target Chinos...Actually think I like them better than the $70 J Crew ones I usually get at 1/3 the price...These will be my new go to work pants.

Had no idea what a chino was until today. Can't wait to go get some and look better.
In the UK, I have tried a lot of brands and found the best fit from M&S, great price too👌
Hey Jon, instead of the chinos you showed would you think it appropriate for me to substitute Haggar style pants like Dickies work pants? (I'm a big guy -six foot/230lbs)...they fit me better.
Yeah man, if they fit your body type better, go for it.
I'm 62 and enjoy watching your videos. My size is 36 34 and I hate the high water pants look. I generally avoid 100% or high cotton content due to shrinkage. I wash in cold water and hang dry. Lands End is my choice. Long rise and pleated. They have others as well.
I have some chinos but your color range are awesome. Love your videos....
Really enjoying your content - pretty informative and relatable. Would love to see similar vids on blazers, casual shirts, polos and tees.
I only have chinos in two colors, grey(two shades), and a tan. I am looking forward to incorporate pastel colors to my rotation. Excellent stuff John.
My favorite brand and fit for chinos are those from Ben Sherman, they are hard to come by but are so worth it. J Crew and Banana Republic also make great fitting chinos.
I like those target ones in the American Eagle ones. Can’t do the pink. Not as brave as you. Nice video. Keep them coming.

Hey John, great video. As an extra help for some of us how tall are you?
5’ 9”

All my chino's are bonobos slim fit. I cannot speak to any others but I do like mine and over the years have bought them again and again.
I say they all look great, some IMO are for warmer seasons but any color Chino is great for guys over 35👌
I’ve had good luck with Old Navy slim chinos. Usually around $25
I got mine at H and M . Cost $29 . I like them .
The Target Goodfellow works the best for me. And they are more wrinkle free. Thank you for your fashion info!
Question. I bought traveler chinos and regular chinos from banana republic. The traveler chinos has pockets in the front where as regular chinos have them on the side. The traveler chinos are hybrids,
Chino/Jean. Which one would u recommend? Pockets on the front or the sides??
Oooh.. good question. Side pockets will be a little bit more dressy. So it depends on what you want. Thanks for watching!
@@40OverFashion which do u prefer?
And y?
Alas, Target left the Canadian market a couple of years ago. I miss it.
I discovered the Target chinos after dropping hundreds of dollars on Bonobos chinos! I could kick myself for overlooking them. The tapered cut is the best! I wish I could take the Bonobos back. Fellas, go try on the Target chinos.
I agree- I've found a great fit and value there, though limited choice of styles.
Man, I tried on the Target chinos and they draped poorly and did not fit me well personally.
Outstanding Jon. I am a fan and subscriber to the The Style O.G. as well......I have all of the dark colors from Goodfellow & Co.
Carpe Diem Thank you! Yes, Jeff is the man!
How do you know what color pants go with what color shirt?
Plus, whenever I’m looking for pants, the models on alll the websites are usually 6’1” 102lbs.
Jon always has the best menswear review
I find if I buy things with elastane the right size in the shop, they are baggy after wearing them for an hour or two. It seems as if they need to be too tight when tried in the changing room.

I’m 46 and I’m starting follow your dress style
LEE chinos, got a pair from kohls, wrinkle free, soft, excellent fit.
My favorite kind of pants to wear!!! Good color selection!!!
Thanks for watching!
Not over 40 I’m 18 but I love wearing chinos and a polo shirt they are just super comfortable and I can dress it up if I need to (always tucked though)
What shoes are those Svensson? and what size?
Thanks, dude. I now know what chino is. Cheers!
Been checking out your videos for 2 days now, liking what I see,Subbed 😎👍
Thank you Mark!
Pink color Gap khaki, awesome
COUGH! WOW! Pink huh? Well I am not that adventurous but I do think I need to open up my color palette. There is life beyond blue and gray.
Combining it with white will be better
Your song selection is fire.

Goodfellow from Target is the best. When you wear it and you move, there's no much folding going on. It looks neater....
nursing1999 , yes I have good fellow shirts and slacks, i love them.
As always great content! I do wonder though, how often do/should you buy or replace your clothes. Thanks!!
The Style O. G Recommended your channel. Great video. I am going to stick around, being a may over 40 who appreciates style and not flash. Oh, I dig the sneakers...I just pick up a pair of black leather sneakers....whatcha wearing?

blue is perfect fit and awesome
Great video. Came here because of the recommendation of Jeff, the Style OG. Salute.
Thanks Ryan! Glad you're here!
What would be interesting to know how the colors look after a few washes. That's when you know if the chino is worth the money.
Great point! So far, so good!
Brooks brothers chinos are my go to ( own every color they made ). I don't wear blue Jean's so these are my casual go to pants wear as a 66 year old...

No J Crew? Their slim fit are my go to's.
Thank you, Jon. Your videos and detail to the content are just brilliant. I also like how you share the sizes, as sizes are always different from each vendor or designer. I also enjoyed the recent content on the belts. Joe
Thanks Joe!
Wow. Target? Well then there's one 0.25 miles away from me so definitely will check it out!
Super fit pants they are really looking Great👌
In order to get that sold in europe the base model must be the flanels, but wider AND iron a plie in it. Bam!
Hi ! Quick Question ! Can one still find a pair of chino's with 100% cotton so one doesn't have to always ware a belt or suspenders to keep them at your waist when ever you sit or squat ?
I always wind up wearing a belt.
Are Levi's 501s out? I'm 53. Thanks
Great video, you haven't failed me yet,I didnt even know these pants existed!!
Chinos are usually a crotch vise. Haven’t found a pair that fit yet. Plus if you drive to work, the sit scars make it look like you’ve been wearing the pants for over a week.

Hi Lonny, you'll love tomorrow's video on gray blending then! Thanks for your comment!
Surprised by the target brand, will put those on the radar.
I was surprised as well! Thanks for your comment!
I have three pairs. Love them.
Hi Kirk, thanks for your comment!
I love everything from Target
Hey John, I picked up a pair of the American Eagle chinos in British tan this morning. Perfect fit in a 34/34. Like the jeans, they feel like they were made for me. Mine are the “Next Level Flex” slim model, and they were on sale at 40% off!
Available for 38waist and 54bottoms??
The ones from Target, look great and inexpensive !!
I like The colours of all presented chinos. As a very slim and short guy i know the are too wide and baggy below the knee . Always need tailored on lenght and width so frustrating. Skinny most of time are good below the knee but to tight in tights and butt area
Great video🔥🔥!!Where are your casual sneakers from
Have you tried Dockers chinos. They make them in assorted fits, style and materials.
I haven't tried Dockers for several years. Might have to go have another look.
I think the pink ones fit yu the best. Skinny leg cuts are tricky nowadays. The pink ones don’t look so obvious.
I vote Target chinos too.
My question is, does anyone know of chinos that have a more jean style front pocket?
Banana Republic's Traveler Chinos are the best on the market, next to Target's Goodfellow and Company brand.
Awesome content.. fashion on a budget is very important for myself so budget options are much appreciated. Keep it coming. These are great ideas. I’d like to see something more for the manly man.I would appreciate if you can do a video on that
Hi Keith, thanks for the suggestion.
I love my chinos from express. Funny thing, I just bought some face moisturizer at Target that is also Goodfellow Co and I love it! I might have to go back and try the Chinos. One can never have too many colors 😁
John, you look great in your Target Chino's, you must do a lot of squats? Great video...
I really don't like peg leg style trousers and that seems to be the only style available right now. How much longer will they stay in fashion?
Not sure, but yes, the slim taper silhouette is popular.
