What a wonderful video. Your reflections are so valuable. I am not surprised at the food/eating and physical movement changes you have noticed. I have modified my part-time work schedule so I start later in the AM and have time to swim laps. I found an entire senior group of ladies (about 10 - 15 years older than I am) that meet at the pool each AM for water aerobics and socializing afterwords. They either sit by the pool and chat, hang out in the water and chat (I have told them they need a floating coffee bar) or go out. I swim laps and have observed them. I told my husband working out will be the focus of my AM's when I officially retire because like you, I need to lose weight. But I have started this practice early (well I only spend about 45 minutes swimming laps) but I love it. I just never thought there would be a peer group there at our community pool. They have invited me to join them. I know the loss of work friends can be sad. Yes, they are not like your other friends but because of the amount of time and interaction you had with them, they are part of your social circle. And that would be sad to lose them. I understand your reaction. Yes you can occasionally have lunch with them but it will never be like it was. Remember what it was like when you left college? I remember being so happy to graduate and when I hit that date, was so sad that I lost this group of friends that I went though college with. I realized we were going all over the country and it would never be like it was. So it is a loss and take time to grieve that loss. I have heard you will miss the stimulation of the success of achievements you had at work so you are VERY wise to start the TH-cam channel. Just remember, it's a retirement activity and don't turn it into another job. If you need a week off, take it off. Thanks for the thought provoking video and Congratulations on your official retirement! Are you going to tell us about your last day at work? (How people said "Good Bye", did you ever have a retirement celebration--what happened and how did they say "Goodbye"?) Just curious.
Thanks for the great and thoughtful comment! Working part time to ease into retirement is brilliant! My last day was so weird. I had a bunch of video calls and texts from friends saying goodbye. My retirement celebration was a few weeks earlier when I attended an office gathering. Most of our employees work from home and are geographically dispersed so I didn’t see a lot of them in person before I retired.
You are 56 years YOUNG! Looking back do you think our lives spending 32 years working being stressed out meeting other people’s dreams come true - what is this that we are all scripted into? Love your channel!
