actually, Vlad the Impaler (Tepes in Romanian) or The Impaling Lord are nicknames given by the Ottomans and Saxons. His real name was Vlad III Dracula (son of the dragon in Romanian). That's how he was known to his contemporaries and how he signed his documents, except for two letters to the Turks in which he signed Vlad III Drakulya. He was a direct descendent of the Basarab House, an old aristocratic family that ruled Wallachia from the 13th century onward.
Bram Stoker must have based the character on Vlad the Impaler because in the book, count Dracula says to Jonathan Harker something like, "the blood of the Impaler Lord, that Wallachian warrior, runs through my veins"

Romanians were oppressed during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and that's due to the fact that Romanians were primarily orthodox, also Hungarians were scared that Romanians would take over, since the ancestors of Romanians were Dacians and were the primary residents of Transilvania so ethnic cleanse begun. Many were forced to change their names and many were forced out of their cities during their rule. Eventually, the Romanians managed to cease the cities and kick out the invading force. It's hard to find an ethnic group that wasn't oppressed by the Austro-Hungarians during their rule in central Europe. Slovaks and Serbs also were oppressed by them.

Transsylvania was depopulated many times over the centuries, the Dacians actually disappeared from Transsylvania, like most of the Gepids, Lombards, Huns, Avars, etc. The Romanians started to migrate to Transsylvania in the 13. century, basicly from Wallachia and South Balkan. After the Mongol invasion the Hungarian king started to settle down the wallachian nomadic shepards living in Transsylvania and invited Saxon Germans. Transsylvania was a rich multicultural territory, and those beautiful cities were mostly Hungarian and German cities, but because of the ottoman wars, the Habsburgs and the treaty of Trianon the Romanians became the majority.

Romanians do not migrate in Transylvania, and Romanians do not became the majority after Trianon, they been majority during Habsburg Empire, same as Slovaks for example, they had majority in their lands during Habsburg rule.
PS: Can you imagine how wrong you are!? In 1915 there was 7.9 milions Romanians living in Kingdom of Romania, today in Transyilvania are living about 5 milions of Romanians. In 1939 in Romania was living 19.9 milions of inhabitants including people from Bessarabia. There is no migration from Kingdom of Romania to Transylvania, Romanians are living there for centuries, with their traditions, generation to generation. Imagine we were fighting otoman empire within those castles, we also had to fight hungarians, then at one point even against Russian Empire, we had Bessarabia as part of Romania, and we have even a fortress in Odessa, but nowadays it is part of Ukraine. Romania is very rich in history and a country which born under many enemies invading us and making us to pay money to strong imperialist countries. We kind of succed to get independence within always having an ally to fight enemies, so we kind of rotate enemies and allies as well, to kind of make up to surface between 3 imperialist and strong nations which were fighting constantly to conquer those lands.
Romania is turning beautiful every year, is doing more and more stuffs and restores old buildings and schools/highschools, we have a lot of communist builded cities and we kind of need to change that ugly constructions, some cities really look majestic and medieval, but some really mess up within communist style and old style arhitecture.

I hate when tourists say they have visited Romania, but in fact they have been to Transylvania and Brasov. Romania is more than these two areas, don't forget Moldova, don't forget Bucovina, don't forget the Danube Delta, don't forget Oltenia and Maramures. If you want to visit Romania, visit all these areas, not just Transylvania 😉 and then you will truly appreciate it

So the airport is going to be a game changer for Brasov ! I really think we should move the capital city from ugly Bukarest to Brasov.

We have a lot of dishes and vegetarian, as Romanians kind of religious and adapt different foods to the days you would suppouse to fast from sweet stuffs and meat.
Zacusca is something also very good for a vegatarian, consumed usually on bread as a snack. We also have vegetarian sarmale, Romanian dishes are quit good, vegetables are quit cheap in Romania, but we kind of have a balance from religious point, into our body.
For us milk products are something we grow up with, some old generations use to even get from their parents fresh milk from the cows/ domestical buffalo, so milk and cheese products for us is happiness in our brain, because of childhood.
nettles/ spinach dishes, pies with cabage, and lot's of pickled vegetables ;)) + red/yellow melon is quit common during summer, as a lot of fruits and mushrooms naturally growing forests, and lot's of fruits into wildness, but most of them we don't really consume or know their benefits ;))

Yes, I agree. Romanian people are so welcoming. I went there a year after the wall fell. They were just pulling out from a dictator and were struggling, yet they were the most generous people. Also, You do you, whether you eat meat or do not eat meat. Enjoy yourselves either way! Forget the naysayers.
