Got my wings in 1987 from Campbell. First, much tougher to get your Air Assault wings than your airborne wings. Second, I'm 5'8" and that top rung on the ladder still gives me nightmares. I physically had to jump to catch the top to pull myself over. in 30 plus years you'll always remember your air assault experience. Good job summarizing it by the way.
2/17 Cav...I went through it at Campbell in '89. We had one guy dropped for not going over it and watched one fall from probably thirty feet. He left by ambulance but was ok. I know it’s not a great answer, but to a degree you have to know the whole book. The written tests cover everything in the book but aren’t really that hard. Sling loads are the hardest part of the course, so I spent a lot of time memorizing those. There is a graph in the book with all the sling load and sling set configurations. Martin Exotics if you’re in the Indiana Guard you should ask your unit to let you do that too. It’s usually in the fall and I didn’t even expect to get the tab but still had a great time!
Martin Exotics well hey man come over to my unit and we’ll hook you up. Automatic Airborne School, and literally 80% of the unit has 2 or more skill badges, not counting any tabs or anything, which a lot of people have.
Joshua Pino getting smoked before the 2 miler depends on the location of the school you’re going through. Most places do it, some don’t. But no, you definitely shouldn’t get smoked before the 4 miler. PT has typically chilled out at that point. It’s just 1st phase that is really PT heavy with a lot of smoke sessions.
Joshua Pino we didn’t get smoked before the 2 miler, but we did get smoked quite a bit at other times for the first few days.lol. And the 2 mile course there is full of hills and really sucks (probably why they don’t smoke you) but it wasn’t terrible. Running is running, it sucks until it’s over.lol. Good luck bromigo.
Unless you live on the respective base in which you are attending Air Assault School, you are on lockdown, so you can’t leave to go get anything at all. We ate mermites every day, which had coffee, and we were allowed to consume whatever we brought with us (except alcohol). So I’d say bring stuff with you, or ask one of the students who lives on post (meaning they leave and go home at night) to get you whatever you need.
I fractured my spine and both my Calcaneus (heel bones) almost 2yrs ago from being drunk and falling from the second story onto concrete . But im still trynna go air assualt and airborne. Fuck what the Army says. Im getting my wings and doing my 20
Ah 18:31 you answered it. A little different than when I went through at Ft. Campbell back in ~2000. Since I was stationed there, if you were missing things on the Day 0 inspection, you were gone. If your shit was slightly dirty or lacking black paint etc, you were dropped. That kind of nonsense doesn't make sense for somebody to travel to a course just to get dropped on Day 0. Glad they changed it.
I had a buddy get dropped on day 0 for “unserviceable” PT shoes because they had a hole in them. But that was what he wore every day in the 82nd. That was back in 2015 I think so they must’ve changed it recently.
Check this out: now I’m an 11 year E-5 with 4 skill badges on my chest and 2 deployments. Things slow down a bit in the national guard, especially if you deny promotion to stay in a unit you love.
I did 4 years active at Bragg with one deployment in 2014, then went Guard into a LRS unit before we re-org’d into an airborne infantry line company. Every senior guy in the unit was here in the LRS and all of them turned down promotion for years to stay here. So everyone here has tons of schools and a lot of time in by the time you get your 5 and 6. I don’t care about promotions until I’m half way through my career. Just trying to enjoy myself right now.

There’s a strict SOP for your FLC, which is what you ruck in. I don’t remember wearing an ACH though. I don’t even think we wore PCs for the rucks either.
@@NemeanIndustries Thank you
@@NemeanIndustries Hey I'm going at the end of the month, the packing list says 'Complete FLC', but doesnt include what a complete FLC is. Is this just a slick FLC or do I need a certain configuration of mag/grenade/canteen pouches
@@919fishing7 I honestly can’t remember what all was on it. I want to say it was 2 canteen pouches with a canteen cup and then you’ll have your green L shaped flashlight on the FLC but I don’t remember anything besides that.
I was 25 I’d light and they wanted as many to go
Schofield barracks to the East is so tough

What state are u in the guard ?
Indiana
What all tabs do you hold??? Lol I’m guard in Indiana and they’re looking to send me to air assault sometime this year.
Martin Exotics well the Airborne tab is part of our unit patch, other than that I have the Governor’s Twenty tab. Good luck bud!
Cole Gillespie Thats what I thought it was but was still gonna ask :) and thank you!!!!
Martin Exotics if you’re in the Indiana Guard you should ask your unit to let you do that too. It’s usually in the fall and I didn’t even expect to get the tab but still had a great time!
Cole Gillespie I could haha idk if I will, one of the guys in my battery has it. Lol I’m artillery
Martin Exotics well hey man come over to my unit and we’ll hook you up. Automatic Airborne School, and literally 80% of the unit has 2 or more skill badges, not counting any tabs or anything, which a lot of people have.
what is the training length?
12 days total that you’ll be at the schoolhouse
@@NemeanIndustries where is there installation?
@@JohnsenChea you could go to Fort Campbell or to the Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning
FT CAMPBELL 1999 Dco 801 Air Assualt.
Hey man!!! What was the run like?
Joshua Pino 2 miler or 4 miler?
Cole Gillespie both of them. Did they smoke you before the 2 miler?
Joshua Pino getting smoked before the 2 miler depends on the location of the school you’re going through. Most places do it, some don’t. But no, you definitely shouldn’t get smoked before the 4 miler. PT has typically chilled out at that point. It’s just 1st phase that is really PT heavy with a lot of smoke sessions.
Cole Gillespie sweet. I’m going to the one at Benning. Did they smoke you guys before the two miler there?
Joshua Pino we didn’t get smoked before the 2 miler, but we did get smoked quite a bit at other times for the first few days.lol. And the 2 mile course there is full of hills and really sucks (probably why they don’t smoke you) but it wasn’t terrible. Running is running, it sucks until it’s over.lol. Good luck bromigo.
Is caffeine allowed in air assault school?
Unless you live on the respective base in which you are attending Air Assault School, you are on lockdown, so you can’t leave to go get anything at all. We ate mermites every day, which had coffee, and we were allowed to consume whatever we brought with us (except alcohol). So I’d say bring stuff with you, or ask one of the students who lives on post (meaning they leave and go home at night) to get you whatever you need.
We ate viverine like tick tacks
I fractured my spine and both my Calcaneus (heel bones) almost 2yrs ago from being drunk and falling from the second story onto concrete . But im still trynna go air assualt and airborne. Fuck what the Army says. Im getting my wings and doing my 20
Yo man. Can you get the school in your contract ?
Honestly I don’t know. I had Airborne in my contract but I’ve never heard of getting Air Assault in your contract. That’s a good question.
@@NemeanIndustries k thanks for sharing. I imagine it is easier to get into becaude it is only 10 days and if offered at multiple locations.
First time go! Ft campbell sep 2004
No Day 0 equipment inspection?
How to pass air assault school... Show up
Saw about half the people who showed up fail the school lol
💯
Center your pins specialist!
Calm down lol
Lol,just show up and you’ll pass.Pretty easy school.
We had over 50% attrition in our class so apparently not.lol. Basically if you actually WANT to pass, yeah you’ll pass.
7 yrs and still a spec 4? Not impressed.
Why is this a video that shit was easy 😂 repelling phase is fun
Give people a heads up on what to expect.
