Your video really helped me! Although I watched a few other tutorials too, but after watched your video and follow your steps, I was able to hold my hamster without it running away from me, helped us grew our bond. Thank you for making this video
My hamster is terrified of me and it’s sad watching the process of him trying to get out of the cage. But you were right about the bedding part bc he just hides in there all day and night.
My hamster bit me 2 times and I’m still trying to tame him but I think we’re getting there he’s black and white and he’s called buzz and I he’s super scared of everything Bc he was bullied and abused and has been in lots of fights and has been attacked but I have rescued him and put him in a massive cage and with lots of bedding
Awh poor little guy had a tough life before he met you 😔. Yeah, it's really hard to tame a hamster that has gone through harsh times. I'm so glad you rescued him 💖 I hope he understands all those love and effort you are giving him and become best friends soon! 😊😊😊💕
Wow, thank you very much for these tips! I got my first hammy almost a week ago and he still won’t let me hold him ;/ That little boy even bit me once which made me sad but I understand this is all new to him and he might feel scared. Thank you, I will definitely use these tips and hopefully I succeed taming my hamster! 🐹💖
This video is so great! It's definitely helping. My hamster's only 7 weeks old so I'm trying to get her used to people at a young age. She is still a bit scared when I put my hand in but last night she allowed me to stroke her for the first time. Thank you so much for your help! P.S All your animals are sooooooo cute! It looks like you take great care of them!
@@SAKSOON I can't thank you enough! My hammy is now comfortable with climbing onto my hand when I put it in her cage. You deserve so many more subscribers! ❤️
SAK- SOON i got my hamster 3 weeks ago and he’s really scared just like yours was in the beginning but idk if i should do that i don’t wanna stress him
@@genesiscastro5972 it's up to you! I mean I think it's still stressful for a hamster every time when he sees hoomans. If a hamster hides from you, that means he fears you, and fear causes stress. I don't want them to get scared and stressed out for a long time(could take several months for some hamsters to get used to hoomans) just because of my existence lol. With this method, they get to spend 10min, or less, training. And it will take, possibly, only a couple days for them to get used to you. So... it's up to you!😆
@@SAKSOON thank you for responding but there is one problem... i can’t even get him out of his cage. i’ve only taken him out once and it took me about 15 minutes to take him out
@@genesiscastro5972 you can use a bowl and just scoop him up 😆😆😆. That's actually the safest way to move a hamster when he's not tamed because new hamsters tend to jump off from your hand during the transport lol. They are very slippery. Once they jump off from your hands, that might cause another problem. So just scoop him up with a bowl or small box and move it to the taming location.
I’ve been wanting to tame my new hamster but she kept burrowing inside the bedding and is scared of me squeal at me when my hand goes near. Wow I’ve been looking for ways and I’m so sad. Thanks for the guide! I’ll follow it omo 😭
SAK- SOON today’s just day 1 and she stayed on my hand for three seconds. But she just kept running around the spare bin I put it into and I don’t think she use my hand as an escaping tool lol
@SAK- SOON I don’t know if it’s okay but after two to three hours I took her out again to tame this time shorter like five minutes. She improved! Omo I used the glass cup to guide her inside then lifted up a bit and put my hand outside. She crawled into my hand omo but her legs are wobbly but she’s so brave! So shy too but I’m so proud of her and thank you so much for giving me the courage to tame her with your vid above ♥️🐹
I got my hamster last month and he was really used to us by day two because he let us do what you did in day four on day two. I still am working on him using my hand to leave his enclosure. He paws at the sides on days that he wants to be let out and I use my hands to help him up and out and into the playpen. Yesterday he came into my hand for a second without having to use a treat for the first time in two weeks but then he jumped off as I was trying to lift him up like an inch. There are days when he doesn't care for interaction so I just let him do his own thing those days but I still hand feed him a small treat. I'm lucky in that when he bites he doesn't like bite he'll like slowly sniff and open his mouth super slowly and give the tiniest nibble which is more just like a graze with his teeth. But he only did that to me when I handled his food before getting his attention
Hii! I have a method that I use. Put your hammie into a tube and let it crawl onto your hand. This helps it understand that you are not going to harm it 💖
What happen if I get my hamster from another breeder? It seems like she is scare of me after a week. Still jumpy and shivering too. What would you recommend? Still go thru this as well?
My love me lol, at first.. the scared cause I found him. Cold and hungry, poor thing. Brought in my home, kept him. Always dark, and that he wanted. Then about 2 weeks, after treats and got a rolling ball. Without make him, let him see the ball on his cage ramp. Very curious and in the ball smelling it. Without touching him, closed the ball with him. Omg, soon rolling soooo happy! Now always run to my hand, pet him, begging for treats or his rolling ball. Love that lil guy running around whole my home. Black bear, I call him Goblin lol. Now I have all kinds ribbons on his cage, since so fast good he is. People love Gobbie always wanting hold him, omg kids too. My lil Gobbie 🖤
Hi Sak-Soon thank you for making this video. I got my first hamster a few days ago and I don't want to pick her up if she doesn't trust me. She ate out of my hand today which went well. She did bite me one but I think she thought I was food and it wasn't meant to be aggressive. I pulled away fast and I hope that didn't scare her. Over all she does not seem to be scared of me. I come close to her cage and talk to to her and she come to me or doesn't even seem bothered if I'm there. She is such a curious little girl. Do you think its ok to do these training sessions when she's been awake for a while and is very active or should i wait for tomorrow after she wakes up and its still a little sleepy? Also she doesn't use her wheel do you have any suggestions? One more question should i replace her food everyday even if she doesn't finish it. Or should I wait for her to eat everything so she gets the complete notice of the food and doesn't only eat her favorite parts?
Thank you for being a great hammy mom😀💖 I suggest you to do the training when she's fully awake, so it's less stress for her. Hammies are very active when the room is completely dark. All my hammies ran on the wheel a lot only when there was complete darkness. They can't see the red light, so if you install a red light in the room, you will be able to see them being very active. I wouldn't change the food unless the hammy finish it. I spoiled Pepper like that lol (he's the pickiest hamster in the world 😂). I hope you and your hammy become best friends soon ☺💕
@@SAKSOON That good to know about the red light. I actually have red string lights in the room she is in. So I do see her running around and climbing a lot. I should clarify even though she doesn't use the wheel she is very active. She enjoys climbing. she climes across the sides of the cage using the bars even climes upside down on the roof of the cage. Her cage is two stories so she runes up and down and climbs between levels. Ill try leaving her food until she finishes. She bites on the bars sometimes. I do admit that this makes me nervous to interact with her. In my mind she is in a biting and nibbling mood so she might bit me thinking I am a good thing to much on. Also I have a friend coming over tomorrow and I and nervous about letting them interact with each other. She isn't all the way used to me yet so I don't know if I want to introduce another person. Also when do you think it is an ok time to start introducing a hamster ball? my instinct is after she is comfortable being held. Maybe running in the ball will make her want to use her wheel, but its ok I believe if she doesn't use it as long as she's exercising.
Hey, would you be open to doing a video call with me to help me get over the fear of starting this process? Its ok if you would not be comfortable with that though I understand that you don't know me.
@@mollyhynes3535 I'm afraid to say that i can't do the FaceTime with you 😥 But I'm always here to help you and your hammy! It might be too early to introduce your friend to the hammy. But just to be nice, you can let your friend talk to the hammy with soft voice and tell her that she's not ready to be handled. Usually, if you tell ppl that your hammy bites, they get scared and leave the hammy alone 😂😂😂 You can use the hamster ball anytime. Just do it less than 5min for the first few tries because she needs to get used to the hamster ball. And you can slowly increase the hamster ball time until it reaches to 15min. If your hammy is Syrian, make sure the ball is at least 8 inches. Bigger is better. Some hammies don't like to be in the hamster ball. Idk how to explain this part, but you need to watch her carefully and see her reaction. My hamster that liked the hamster ball ran around the whole house very fast, dodging all those obstacles like pro lol. She would come to me if I call her name and follow me around. My other 2 hamsters didn't like the hamster ball much. I could see them being nervous and peeing in the ball. I didn't use the hamster ball for those two hammies after a couple tries. I can see that your hammy is very active! That's really good. That means she's all settled to the environment. 😀 Let me know the further progress if there's any improvement! 😊😊😊💕
I'm late but I've had my hamster for a few weeks. She's very timid and easily get scared. Even when she is eating food and I try to pet her she really jumps out of frighten. I'm also afraid that she would get startled and vice versa. How do I make her trust me?
I'm sorry for the late reply😅. When you pet hammy, try to approach to your hammy from the front. Let the hammy know that your hand is near by and about to touch her by gently tapping the floor or making a little sound by rubbing your fingers together. Spending time with hamster is very important for a scared hammy. Talk to her by whispering all the time so she can recognize your voice. Let her sniff your finger a lot (must wash your hands very clean so your hand doesn't smell like anything but your scent).
I got my hamster a week and a half ago and she's very shy. She has deep bedding and is always hiding, it's very hard to make her come out. She has bitten me 3 times, 2 of which were bloody. Weirdly enough, she looked calmer in the beginning, grooming, running on her wheel while I was watching. From the last couple of days that stopped happening (she only does that when I'm not there). I've noticed she bites everything to understand what it is so now I'm wearing gloves. I'm thinking of putting her in a playpen and start taming her there.
Yeah, it's always better to tame hamsters when they are not in the cage. The cage is their territory and they will think of your hand as an enemy. I hope you and your new girl become friends asqp!!💖 Good luck!! I'm looking forward to hear any improvement ☺💕
Hi, thanks for making this video! I got my hammy last week where he was tamed in his foster home. He has a thick 6” bedding. He comes out occasionally for food/water during the day very shortly everytime, and only comes out really late at night (4am, maybe just trying to hide from me lol), and that’s the only time when I get to feed him some treats/pet him. He also grooms when he’s out which I think it’s a sign that he’s at least somewhat comfortable. He bites if I just let him sniff my hands (he would come up and sniff it himself then starts to bite me), but is willing to take treats from my fingers and let me pet him when eating without biting. Would you recommend reducing the bedding to help with the taming process so he’s not hiding all the time?
I think it's better to reduce the bedding for now until he gets tamed. Thick bedding is good for hammmies, but it might take forever to tame them. It's also stressful for the hamster for the long run because they get scared of their owners + busy hiding. Spending time and interacting with the hammy is the most important part of the taming session . Try to reduce the bedding, spend time with the hammy (talking to hammy by whispering helps him to recognize your voice), and let him sniff your hand often (make sure your hand is all cleaned with water. He needs to get used to your scent). If he seems he's comfortable around you, start the taming session I showed in the video. Once he's all tamed, he won't hide from you anymore even with the thick bedding! 🙂 Good luck to you and your little new hammy friend☺☺☺💕
@@SAKSOON thanks for the quick and detailed reply 🥺 I wasn’t completely sure if he was comfortable since he would choose to bite me when there’s no food 😂
My hamster loves dried banana and pineapple. They were in a treat bag i bought from petco and he goes crazy for them. He also really loves carrots and peas as well as cheese, egg and apple
If your hammy seems uncomfy, I would let her get used to the new environment for a while first. I suggest you to give the hammy the best fresh treats often so the hammy doesn't get much stress from it.
Exactly what I've been looking for! My hammy is still quite young and inexperienced (just as I am in getting a pet lol) and I've been spoiling him too much he ignores me all the time 🥺 I'm going to try this, I hope I have enough patience aa
@@SAKSOON thank you! I just started it like 10 mins ago and he almost escaped and I handled him pretty badly :( wondering how many days it took for you to finish taming him?
Thank you so much! Im doing the same since yesterday and Kiki stays like exactly 1 second on my hand 2 😂👍👍👍 Tonight I will be doing the same she's friendly and doesnt bite at all 💓🐹
Good video. I think one mistake that all new and good hamster owners make is giving too much bedding and hideouts from the very beginning. Hamsters just go and burrow and are in hideouts all the time so gets difficult to tame them. So, initially, keep the bedding less and hideouts fewer. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you, Nachos💕 That's what I think, too. If I say that in public, all those good hamster owners starts attacking me lol. So I just tell people this method is just an option 😂.
@@SAKSOON well ,our first hamster was very docile so taming was easy. Now we have two who have their own personality so now I read through a lot of material and realised that we will have to take the route of removing a lot of bedding and a lot of hideouts (till the time they get tamed) .
Okay I'm glad found your tutorial bc I am hopeless ☹ my hamster is so scared of me and I got him like 4 or 3 weeks ago and he is 3months old. I am on day 2 and I don't really see much progress but I'll be patient and wait.
Hello, Dora! Depends on the hammy's personality, it might take longer than other hamsters. But if you stay patient, your little hamster will open up his heart to you for sure💖. Don't give up! I'm looking forward to hear some good news from you☺☺☺💕
@@SAKSOON okaay so day 4 well it's like your day 1 or 2 he is still scared but a little calmer? Idk if I should take some bedding out bc he tries to burrow in it when I try to "pick" him up
@@melooonitonmieles maybe use a bowl to scoop him instead of picking him up with your hands. This way you can take him out easier and prevent him from jumping off from your hands.
Hi I know I am late but I have one question I'm very scared my hamster will bite me so would there be a way for my hamster to not bite me? Also, is it ok if there is little bedding for my hamster? Love your videos!
Thank you,, Rxmy☺💖 More bedding is always better, but not during the taming session because they will just hide from you. Try to do the taming session I showed in this video. It might take longer for your hammy depending on the hammy's personality. Don't do the taming training in the cage because she will think your hand is trying invade her territory lol.
i need help i got my hamster sage yesterday and she was fine last night and this morning but now she keep doing that weird hissing screaming thing at me anytime i go near her. she’s also not coming out her bed but i don’t know if it’s cause it’s still her night time or not.
Maybe she needs more adjusting time in her new cage. Let her get used to the new environment for a while. When she seems fine with her cage, slowly start giving her some fresh treats such as veggies or fruits to gain her trust. Don't handle her until she feels comfy around you. Make sure to clean your hands very thoroughly with water to get rid of all the other smell but your scent.
Waking up the hamster from sleep isn't a good idea, honestly. It's gonna stress the hamster and the hamster will become very sensitive, which gives it negative feelings toward you. If you are planning to tame your hamster, it's better to do it when they are fully awake. So, try to adjust the taming time considering their active schedule.
My hamster climb on my hands automatically but when its awake.(rare).once he get on my hands,he doesnt want to go back to his enclosure.but i feel like the trust is becoming weaker than before idk y.he was not active for the pass 2 days.
I tamed my yanster with gloves but my cousin touches him and holds him and doesnt bite her when my father touches my hamster he bites him but not aggresively, i tamed my hamster with gloves and 3 seeds and he was tamed by just doing that for exactly 1 day
You can end the taming session when YOU think the hammy is ready. Most likely, if you feel your hammy likes you enough, that's when it's ready! No, do not leave hammy in the bin. The taming session has to be only for a few minutes to avoid your hammy getting stressed. I hope this helps! 🙂🙂🙂
i gave my new dwarf hamster almost 7 inches of bedding...all he does is hide :(. i leave treats outside his nest opening and he takes them but the second there is any noise or movement he freezes or runs away. my last hamster was very confident but nibbled a lot. he bit me a few times. but my new hamster is so scared. i only got him 2 days ago but i tried opening the lid to his cage it made a big of a noise and he ran away and hasn’t come out since. i regret giving him so much bedding. i have a 650 sq in cage sync he spends the whole time underground. any advice?
There are two ways. You can just let him hide for a few days to let him adjust the new environment. The other way is... get rid of bedding a little and do the method i did in the video. For dwarves, it's better to be patient and give them enough time to get used to the new house. It's up to you! Try many methods! I hope you and your new furry friend will build a great friendship asap😀😀😀💖
Trying it first time is always hard! I had the exact problem with it, but as time goes by, you will get used to it 😂. Their nails feel very sharp, but I get used to it lol. Time and patience is the only key with the new hammy 😆
Hi i’m doing this method and it’s working great! my hamster jumps right onto my hand now. the only thing is. i am trying to get him used to walking on my hands the way you showed but he walks the opposite way, up my arms. how can teach him differently??
That's really awesome!! 😃😃😃 If you can grab him, lift him and make him face the other side.. lol. That's the only way I can think of 😂. Just let him do w.e. he wants to do 😂😂😂 (I'm sorry this doesn't really help with your question lol)
I have a hamster and when I put my hand in the cage they scream at me and I feel bad and it keeps screaming and doesn't come near me any ideas on to stop that?
Oh no🥺🥺🥺. Your hammy is extremely scared of human. How long have you had the hammy? If it's the new hammy, leave him alone in the cage for a while until you see the hammy gets comfortable with the new environment. Try to give him fresh treats, such as veggies and fruits, with your hands often. It sounds like your hammy is very shy, so it might take a long time. Before you let the hammy sniff your hand, wash your hands with water very thoroughly, so it doesn't smell like nothing but your scent. Spend time with your hammy a lot. Talk to hammy by whispering, so he gets used to your voice. Once he stops screaming and gets used to you, start the taming session I showed you in the video. Good luck to you and your new hammy friend 💖💖💖💕

Hello guys! So I just got hammy (don’t worry I did research and she’s in a great home) and she will not take ANY treat from my hand or near it. I’ve tried a variety of treats and I see how excited she gets when foraging for her favorites so I know it’s not that she doesn’t like them. But she still won’t take even her favorites. If anyone has tips on how they got three hamster used to taking treats let me know. Thanks!
I'm sorry for the late reply! How's things so far? It's been 3 weeks since you left this comment. Any improvement? Hamsters have different personalities and it might take longer for some hamsters to get used to humans. Patient is the only key for those shy hammies, unfortunately 😕
No worries on the late reply it’s alright. She’s getting better and she still is a little scared but she’s letting me hold her now! I can’t work on taming her every night because school is early but I do every weekend and some days of the week. She doesn’t hide anymore and isn’t scared of my hands. It seams like she doesn’t enjoy being held though and only tolerates it which is ok by me. Thanks for the reply and I hope to see the next video you post! ❤️
@@sofiaguzman5129 That's good! She's not hiding from you anymore and that's a good sign😀. She's taking a progress, so she will be tamed soon! Keep it up✊💕
You can gently scoop up your hamster with a bowl. Make sure you cover the top with your hand, or something else if he bites, to prevent the hammy from jumping off 🙂
If you feel one big pain, that means your hammy is biting you lol 😂. It doesn't hurt at all when a hammy nibbles. It's ticklish 😆💕 One of my hammies loved grooming my hands.
I just got my hamster a day ago she was very scared in the pet shop and got frightened when the shop assistant put his hands in I’ve put my hand in a couple of times and If I move hand now she not too scared she started to sniff my hand kinda and I’ve managed to stroke her when she was drinking put she normally hide in her tubes or her house it’s got a lid should I take it off for now ? I’ve kept her cage quite bare for now so I can try tame her she loves running through her tubes and going in her wheel more so at night time any tips ? what should I do next ?
It would be better to give her a few more days to get comfy in the new cage. Meanwhile, try to offer delicious fresh treats such as fruits and veggies with fingers. Talk to the hamster and call your hammy name by whispering, so that way she can recognize your voice. It's normal for hamsters being more active at night, or in a dark place. Some hamsters adjust their schedule to their owner's time frame. All my previous hamsters tried to spend time with me when im around. But my current hammy has his own set sleeping schedule and never comes out until 2am lol. If your hammy starts to get interested in your hands, you can start the taming session I showed in this video. The taming time is vary depending on the hamster's trait or personality. It takes only a few days for some hamsters to get tamed, but it takes months for some. So take your time and try to be gentle with hammy 🙂 Good luck to you and your new hammy friend ☺☺☺💕
I got my Syrian hammy about 2 days ago and found out when I picked him up from his breeder that he gets beaten on the face with a finger when he acts up and doesn’t wanna be held :( I even saw him being pinned and forced to be held. Now I’m trying to tame him and will try your method! Was wondering if I need to alter my approach with him since he sees hands as a negative thing?
I'm sorry for this late reply! Poor little hammy 🥺 He has gone through some tough time. So, how's the progress so far!? Give him delicious fresh treats with your fingers. Some people say put trust on your palm, but if the hammy doesn't trust human hands, they will bite the hand first to see if it's safe or not lol.
If you put your hand in a hamster cage before taming, your hammy will think that the hand is trying invade her territory. When you do taming session, you gotta do this somewhere else besides the hamster cage. Many people do this in their bathtub(after lining it with towel so the hamster's feet don't get cold). In this video, I used a small container with shallow bedding in it. When you move your hamster to the taming area, scoop her up with a big bowl to prevent her from jumping off. Hamsters have guts to jump off from really high place lol. If you have to handle her in her cage, yes, I would suggest you to wear a glove until she's fully tamed.
I've got a playpen with lots of bedding and toys in but he still bites a bit even though this is not his territory. I don't think he's aggressive, just thinking I'm food. I'll think I'll were gloves for a week or so until he's learnt that human finger's are yummy snacks. Thanks for the help and well done with the channel. You're amazing at caring for Pepper and an expert at training him. I know you'll have helped many people like me who are beginners.
@@lochlanpreston7463 thank you, Lochlan☺💖 Then it's just little hammy's curiosity. Some hammies don't understand what human hands are lol. I had one dwarf hamster that bit me all the time. I wasn't able to tame her at all. She was a sweet girl, but she had to check out everything by biting super hard lol 😂
@@SAKSOON i just got a syrian hamster a few days ago. I gave 3 days to adjust to her new environment and I just started the taming process. She is very skittish and I’m afraid she will bite. She took a couple treats from my fingers yesterday. Is it possible to fully tame your hamster with gloves the entire time and have them not bite your hands after you stop wearing them?
Hi, amazing video but I need help taking my dwarf hamster. So he takes food from my finger like when u put it in front of him but when u put it on my hand so he can go to it he bites me every time I try. And I have had him for about 2 weeks and a half but he Dosent trust me, he takes food from my fingers and lets me pet him sometime but he bites me, so I don’t know what to do. Could u give me some tips?
Your hammy prolly doesn't know what a 'hand' is and curious about it. Or he's being territorial and thinking that your hand is trying to invade his cage. I suggest you to move him to another bin cage or bath tub by scooping him up with a deep bowl and follow the steps I showed in the video. Don't transport him with shallow bowl or small cup because he might jump out from it. It might take a long time depending on the hammy's personality. It's all about patience. I hope you and your hammy become friends soon💞
your hamster looks very fast just like mine. i tried this method once but i stopped because he escaped the box but luckily he didn’t run anywhere. i think if i use a plastic box instead he won’t be able to climb the sides. anyway, as long as im consistent this should work right?
I do this method all the time and it works for me and my new hamsters! Make sure the container is high enough so he can't jump! I hope it works with your hammy too💖
@@SAKSOON cute.. but I can find a lot of similarities in terms of personality between your hamster and mine.. I'm gonna start my 1st taming session now.. 🙌
How big is his cage? And are you waking him up? There are many reasons why he might bite. Mine nips quite a bit as his the cage he came in was too small.
What kind of hamster is that? I have one exactly like that one but I don’t know what species it is. If anyone can tell me, I would greatly appreciate it!
If the hamster is scared or surprised, the bite is gonna be very painful lol. But some hamsters nibble on fingers bc of curiosity or trying to groom your finger, which isn't painful at all. Well-tamed hamsters won't hurt you 🙂
My hamster has been with me for a month. He bit me twice in the first two wksHe takes food from my fingers. When I placed my palm with treats in the cage he freaked out and make these quick movements that also startled me. What should I do? HELP!
I understand your frustration..! Keep giving him treats with your fingers. For some sensitive hamsters, it takes a long time for them to get used to human hands. Try the method I showed you in this video. If you are afraid to put your hand in the taming container, just keep giving him food with your hand for a while. Let him sniff your hand. Pet him very gently. Remember to move your hand very slowly. Before you touch the hammy, gently tap the floor/bedding in front of him so that he's aware. A surprise touch can scare him lol. I hope this will help you 😬💖
You have the first step where you give your hamster treats in their cage and then you move on to the next step. (Bin step) My hamster gets really scared and doesn't like to come out for treats, should I wait to do the next step until she gets used to taking treats from me or can I go ahead and do the next step? (2nd one)
I think it would be better to just wait until your hammy comes out to get treats from you. It will be too much stress for the hammy if you skip the very first step. It might take a long time to tame a shy hamster. It's all about patience. Once she thinks she's ready, she will look for you 😊. I hope you and your hammy become best friends soon💖
Don't they try to bite you ?? I am a new hamster owner and everytime I try to train she bites me .I don't know how to make this more comfortable for her.
How long have you had her? It's better to leave her alone until you see her being comfortable around the cage (you can tell by watching her carefully if she's hiding or not). When she feels comfy around, she will be curious about you. Give her delicious fresh treats like fruits and veggies once a while (too much fruit and veggies can cause diarrhea because they contain a lot of water) with your fingers. You can gently talk to her and call her name by whispering so she can recognize your voice. Slightly pet her back while she's eating treats. Hamsters don't like their face or side of their body being touched. Once she's used to you and tries to approach to you first, that would be the perfect time to start this taming session I showed in the video. It might take long depends on the hamster's personality. Some hamsters take months to get tamed, so take your time. Some hamsters bite just because they are curious. And some do nibble, which means they are trying to groom your fingers. A painful bite means your hamster is scared, and that means she needs more time to get to know you. Always remember, you are way bigger than them, and it's natural that they are scared of you and bite you to protect themselves. Good luck to you and your new hammy friend ☺☺☺💖
I have hamster for i wanna say a couple months. All i have been doing is occasionally giving her carrots from the tips of my fingers. She still hates my hands. Even though she has been here for a few months now can I still start this process? She is very skiddish
Yes, you can start this taming process anytime! It might be less stressful for her since she's used to your scent already. I hope it works for your little friend💖
@@kendrawright1560 you need to use a bowl to scoop her up. Something very deep, so she can't jump out. If you place it on its side, she will be curious and go inside the bowl. Just lift it once she's fully in the bowl.
mine doesnt ignore my hands, it immediately scurried up them and escapes without any kind of bond forming between us LOL he also has absolutely no care for treats and things he's very crazyy
Ok so I tried to let him climb on me on my t-shirt.. why does his claws hurt sooo bad when he's climbing?! Like there so tiny how is it so sharp? Also why does it feel sooo weird when I'm holding without gloves? Like his legs are rlly weird
Woah my hamster’s name is tofu too! He’s so shy! Everytime i stick my finger to his cage he’ll always run away from me. But he never bites me tho. He’s a roborvskii btw
my hamster is friendly but quite scared and bitey, any advice for this? i have not yet been able to pick him up because whenever i try he gets terrified & leaps out of my hands. i’ve had him for just under a month.
What kind of hamster is it? Some dwarves nibble your hand to 'groom' your hand. But if he terrifies by your hand, he's definitely afraid of you and needs some taming session! Just try to do what I did in the video. Place him in a separate cage or a playpen (bathtub works too). Let him roam around and play for a bit while your hand is in it. He needs some time to get used to the smell of your hand. Do this for 15min every day and he will eventually not afraid of your hand!
You shouldn’t not give your hamster bedding because you want to tame themI tamed my hamster with 7 inches of bedding. And I know people that I’ve done it with 10 bedding does not matter also not giving them toys is not good either That does not make a difference it just makes your hamster more scared
Oh why my hamster bite me 4 time he almost bite me until he draws blood he thinks my hands is food lmao plus he’s claws are sharp so I’m scared of holding it
I'm sorry to hear that😭. That must be very painful! All my hamsters have bitten me at least once except Pepper lol. Most of them were just bc of the curiosity. Maybe you hamster thinks that your hand is in his territory. Try my method a couple times to see if it works. Big biters cannot fix their bad biting habits in their own cage. You don't need to worry about claws 😆. They are sharp but they can't purposely scratch you like cats lol. I hope this will help you and your little furry friend 💖
@@wisteria2767 Maybe your hands smell like food? Or maybe he's just not used to your scent. Try out this method in the video and see if there's gonna be any improvement 🤔

She's just a little shy but definitely starting to love you more💞 Unfortunately, other air dry clay contains glue, which is not good for hammies. Your hammy will bite it until she destroys the whole thing and those crumbs might not good for her. Try to look for something that says 'natural'. Mine becomes like a mud brick once it dries. It's not sturdy sturdy but safe for little fellas. I can't get the clay anymore because the local store that sells the clay closed this year lol. Good thing I do ceramics 😂😂😂. I hope you find the clay you need! You are always welcome to ask me anything if you have any question 😀😀😀💖
can anybody leave me tips on how to tame my hamster? I have a male syrian hammy and he is not THAT afraid of me sometimes he shakes a little when I am aroundTwT. He sometimes chatters at me when I am sitting kind of close to his hideout. Sometimes he likes to come out and only uses my hands for the purpose of exercise a bit lol. I am trying to teach him that my hand is an elevator to go up and he just forgets it all the time. He does not want anything to do with me which is pretty sad for me as a 12 year old lol. He does have an ikea detolf (950sq inches) and it is a semi crowded german styled cage with enriching accessories so he is not stressed in his enclosure. Lenny shakes when he is running around in my walk in closet (I fill it with a bunch of toys) He is very nervous/ shaky in a new place like my couch or on top of the tv stand. I did get him from the petstore but I later learned thats not good. Tips on taming and bonding process? The good things are... he hates biting people, he is fine with being pet, sometimes he knows my hand has treats in them when I put my hand in the cage, he takes treats from me, he does not really mind me talking, and he is okay with me lifting him in the air when he crawls on my hand to eat. I am sooo lost I have started taming him on June 16th but he is never really getting bettter. I dont know what to do TwT
Hey, friend💕 You are doing great! It takes longer time for some hamsters but that's still a progress 🙂. Everything you are doing for your furry friend is also a taming process, so take your time 💖
I have a hamster but I tried to tame them and when I put my hand they bit me I think they are scared so I’m gonna try to pick them up but I’m actually kinda scared bc they always bite me.
Try not go pick her up when she's in her cage. It's better to setup a little taming cage, or you can just use a bathtub, scoop up the hamster with a cup or a bowl, and put her in the taming area. Let her explore the new place a little and then try to place your hand in it and let her sniff your hand. Make sure you move very slowly so the hammy doesn't get scared by a sudden movement of your hand. And then just follow my method I showed you in this video 🙂. I hope you and your little furry friend become friends soon! 😊💖
Sak Soon how are you doing today fine I hope, your hammy is a cuite pie its a really good way to tame your hammy. None of my hammy likes to be held. And Marilyn she is so she so shy. I really would love to hold Marilyn. I really hope that you are doing well. Have a great weekend too. From Jackie Ginny and Beauty lots of love Jackie
He prolly thinks your hand is food. Make sure your hands don't smell like food! And try to give them treats by grabbing it with your thumb and index finger. And then try to do the method i showed you in the video. My last hamster never bit me but tried to nibble on my finger hard when they smelled like food lol.
Maybe slowly reduce the bedding, not everything at once. Maybe a couple scoops a day. If your hammy started coming out to see you, you can stop removing the bedding and start taming from there. Once the hammy is all tamed, you can put the bedding back!

Thank you for being a great hammy mom😀💖
I suggest you to do the training when she's fully awake, so it's less stress for her.
Usually, if you tell ppl that your hammy bites, they get scared and leave the hammy alone 😂😂😂
You can use the hamster ball anytime.
Let me know the further progress if there's any improvement! 😊😊😊💕
Thank you so much that was very helpful!
You're welcome!!😀😀😀💖

Thank u for the reply and ur advice ❤ I'll try doing it in the future
@@SAKSOON thanks for the tips!
Good luck to you and your little new hammy friend☺☺☺💕
@@SAKSOON thanks for the quick and detailed reply 🥺 I wasn’t completely sure if he was comfortable since he would choose to bite me when there’s no food 😂

More bedding is always better, but not during the taming session because they will just hide from you.
Is it ok to wake up your hamster in the evening or the morning?
Waking up the hamster from sleep isn't a good idea, honestly. It's gonna stress the hamster and the hamster will become very sensitive, which gives it negative feelings toward you. If you are planning to tame your hamster, it's better to do it when they are fully awake. So, try to adjust the taming time considering their active schedule.

i gave my new dwarf hamster almost 7 inches of bedding...all he does is hide :(. i leave treats outside his nest opening and he takes them but the second there is any noise or movement he freezes or runs away. my last hamster was very confident but nibbled a lot. he bit me a few times. but my new hamster is so scared. i only got him 2 days ago but i tried opening the lid to his cage it made a big of a noise and he ran away and hasn’t come out since. i regret giving him so much bedding. i have a 650 sq in cage sync he spends the whole time underground.
Hey I was trying this but I find it really hard to scoop my hand under and also do their nails feel sharp? Any tips pls❤
If you can grab him, lift him and make him face the other side..

Keep it up✊💕
Hello, how do you get the hamster out of his normal cage and back to the normal cage ?
You can gently scoop up your hamster with a bowl. Make sure you cover the top with your hand, or something else if he bites, to prevent the hammy from jumping off 🙂
how can you tell the difference between a hamster nibbling you or biting you?

So take your time and try to be gentle with hammy 🙂
Good luck to you and your new hammy friend ☺☺☺💕
As soon as I open the cage
My Hamster: get out hooman
😂😂😂😂
I think I'm going to do this because my hamster is sooo scared he runs away and burrows when I put my hand in the cage. I put too much bedding
Please help me. Whenever I try this and put my hand in the cage my hamster thinks it's food and bites me. Should I just use gloves for a bit?
@@lochlanpreston7463 thank you, Lochlan☺💖
Then it's just little hammy's curiosity.
Yeah I was wondering that too.🤔
hello i have a question, what if once i place my hand inside the box and he starts to bite me every time.

Erm my hammy is BLOOD thirsty we have had him for a year and o he loves to bite and when he bites he makes A LOT of blood spill out o_o
It's Syrian hamster 😄😄😄
I’m getting a hamster soon if it bites me does it hurt I’m mostly scared of that
If the hamster is scared or surprised, the bite is gonna be very painful lol.
Wow, thank you so much for the quick reply! I don't quite know what I'm doing so I appreciate all the help!
I'm doing this right now but my hamster is sleeping is the box of bedding I give him treats every day and he remembers it as well
Try to do it at night when the hamster becomes more active. Hamsters tend to hide and sleep during day time.
Good luck to you and your new hammy friend ☺☺☺💖

my hamster is friendly but quite scared and bitey, any advice for this? i have not yet been able to pick him up because whenever i try he gets terrified & leaps out of my hands. i’ve had him for just under a month.

Is your hand okay now? 🥺 Hamster bites are pretty painful lol
can anybody leave me tips on how to tame my hamster?
