    *Other important things to remember:*
•It is unrealistic to expect your hamster to look like the ones online, and very few hamsters will feel comfortable enough exposing themselves in vulnerable positions, such as letting you carry them on their backs.
•If you are unable to tame your hamster despite using all the methods listed above, you might have an inherently aggressive hamster. This isn't your or the hamster's faults, it tends to stem from some traumatic experience your hamster may have experienced in the past.
•Some hamsters, such as Roborovskis, are just naturally skittish and aggressive due to their small size, and can be nearly impossible to tame.
•Hamsters are nocturnal/crepuscular, so don't wake them up in the day to try to handle them!
*•More information about 'ghost hamsters' :*
Some hamsters wait until you are out of the room or when the lights are off to come out! This also could mean that they don't like human interaction as it stresses them out. Excessive stress can lead to diseases like wet tail
*only in Syrian hamsters though*, which, in most cases, is fatal. If you believe you have a ghost hamster could carry on trying to pass them treats and speaking to them, but don't try to force them to be held, as this could make them even more scared of you, so it is best not to interact with them!
•Don't force your hamster to be held, even if they are tame, as this can have a negative effect on them, making them more scared of you!
    Good luck hamster tamers! 🐹

This was a very useful video! It definitely explains all the little details about hamsters that some people may not be aware of, like ghost hamsters and how some hamsters can be naturally aggressive like Robo hamsters (as said in the comment). I love the vid as always, keep up the great work! ❤

Great informative video. especially for new hamster owners. Also, I know you mentioned 'ghost' hamsters but it's worth mentioning that every hamster is different and some will need to be left alone for longer than 2-3 days, it can be weeks or months and then some don't need to be left alone. I have had scaredy cat hamsters and I've had very tame hamsters, it all depends on their backgrounds and their personality.

Very true! However, it is best to leave a hamster alone for a few days no matter their personality type though, just to allow them to settle in, as a new environment can still stress them out, even if they are tame! Leaving them alone for months would make it difficult to begin the taming process, as they wouldn't be used to human interaction at all. A week to settle in would be fine though. As I mentioned in the video, some hamsters may take weeks, months or years to become fully tame and some never become fully tame.🐹💕

@@pancakespets sorry, I probably didn't explain that very well, when i said 'left alone longer' what i meant by being left alone was; I meant not forced to be handled if they clearly are stressed by it and don't like it. Obviously continue to talk to them and offer food, work at the pace of the hamster and not to force interactions. I think it also boils down to people's definition of 'tame' for example, i consider my robo Comet to be tame as I can handle him when necessary and he takes food from me and will walk on my hands if away from his cage, but not in his cage. So i don't force him to walk on my hands or to be handled unnecessarily. Other people may not consider that tame and want a hamster they can interact with more. Hope that makes more sense.

Hi Pancake I have a question!
Is the living world nesting material kenaf fiber safe for hamsters?
    Thank you!!

    • @pancakespets
      @pancakespets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm not sure, but as long as it is toxin and scent-free and water soluble, so your hamster can safely ingest it, and not scented or softwood, it should be fine! Torn up tissue paper is a great, safe nesting material alternative!! 🐹💕

It took one lesson to teach my kitten not to bite, and he's fine with it. Just sayin.
