One mistake I noticed from a lot of gameplays that I watched is not picking up obolites in time. When you kill an enemy they drop right at the location of their death, so if you kill them from long range and never go to get the loot fast, then you miss out on a lot of extra obolites. I'm not saying to rush in risking to die just to get a fex extra credits, but especially when it's chill and you can pick off one enemy after another and loot them at the same time.

Me too for some reason. It's crazy, I'm already hyped and waiting for the game to be delivered, but after seeing this video, I got a massive jolt of hype into my hype chamber. Weird lol
Love how this channel is your actual experience from your work on a game and just "here's the info" without the filler. Very different vs others regurgitating popular tips spreading around copy catting one another and not helping anyone beyond the foundational stuff we can easily figure out on our own. No wonder others have plagiarized your vids.
One helpful tip I didn't see in here: you can always return to the ship and sleep, and sleeping will heal you. You can actually sleep multiple times and completely heal you before heading out again. This is quite important as you may need to pick up resin, as mentioned in the video, so you would need a full health to easily find it. Hope it helps!
I beat the boss on my first try in the first biome. I have to say that is such an incredible boss fight. Very well done and fluid. I enjoyed that a lot. I hope the rest of the bosses are that fun
I got lucky and had that revive item that revives you at low health and killed it at with like 10 percent health left after that I got obliterated in 2nd biome but when I fought boss again in 1st biome I knew his moves and took one hit from him and them I destroyed him
The resin technique is really only beneficial in the early phase of the game while it’s easy. Resin increases integrity by such a minimal amount, and you find plenty along the way. The big boosts are obviously the way to go when you find them. Later in the game I save all the health pickups for when I know I’m low enough that none will be wasted after filling my bar. The triangular button was news to me and the chest saving for higher weapon leavels is a great idea.
Classic controller layout is highly recommended Makes alt-fire much easier I’m currently replaying to collect every survey trophies, on my way to platinum this great game
Had a hell of a time last night with only two attempts on the first boss, and A LARGE amount of deaths traversing to it. But will be attempting these tips tonight after works. Thanks!
Great tips! I spent 90 min in biome 1 fully preparing for the second biome, and the game crashed right before I got to the second boss. I had a huge and full health bar, a large med kit, and an astronaut figurine, so I think the game was scared.
Bruhh I've been on the 2nd boss for like 2 days. Best advice I can say is take a break and come back to it again and again and again. The more repetitious it becomes, you start learning the patterns of the bosses. I still haven't beaten 2nd boss yet though 😑
Yes you can. I took my time throughout the entire first biome. Several hours worth of exploring and backtracking. I did step away a couple of times. But my health was up and I had a level 6 weapon just like he did in this video. The bosses movesets are telegraphed pretty easily. Fight him a few times and you will have him down. He is easier than you think. They give you lots of leeway in this fight. I thought I was going to have trouble with his melee in the third stage but it ended up being very easy as long as I was paying attention. It's telegraphed
@@robk5437 mate i have 10hrs play time and 20 deaths and still cant beat the 1st boss on my last run i had level 4 shotty a health pack and a astronaut and i was so close but he still killed me FML

Damn I will definitely start to this. I’ve already hit a bit of a wall 4 hours in at the crimson waste even though I got a rank 7 gun almost immediately stepping into it. Glad I was able to get a PS5 to play this gem on release, and thanks for the tips.
9:30 hours in and still dying over and over again to Phrike, or on the way there. I don't get how his weapons are *5 or 6. Mine are always 0 or 1 max when I reach the boss. I'm having a hard time reading a cycle's map, to quickly decide whether restarting saves time. There are cycles where the boss gate can be reached pretty fast and then there are cycles where I enter one enemy filled area after the other with a nasty combination of enemies. 2 green guys and 1 orange one on top of the regular blue guys can rip you apart pretty quickly. Especially when there are shielded turrets involved that you have to melee. The game looks and plays great but I gotta admit after close to 10hrs in the first biome the mechanics and surroundings are wearing a bit thin by now. Gearing up just isn't fun when one tiny mistake resets your adrenaline right before the boss or depletes your health bar because you got unlucky with the enemy spawn before the anathema gate.
It took me 23 hours and 52 deaths to beat the first dam boss!! Lol I probably fought him 20 times and lost ... I’m until I realized his moving patterns are actually easy when you catch on!! Helps to have “the astronaut” as well, plus a large medkit
Took me two tries and then I one shot the second boss in the same run. The game is extremely challenging, just take your time and use the environment to your advantage, run back to previous rooms to slow pull or seperate enemies. I found that the carbine was my friend for sure :). Otherwise, I wish you the best luck in your next cycles
I played this for 2 months took a break and instantly got to biome 4 on my first ply through back on it. Sometimes a break is needed. Phrike was destroying me and for the love of god I couldn’t get the right combo of gear to win 😂
As someone who finds games that prioritize challenging gameplay and resetting of progress intimidating, this guide helped me wipe the first boss pretty easily. Thanks man
This isn't the easiest game I've played for a long time but it's definitely the best game I've played in a long time. It took me a few hours to get the sword and keys etc then find the boss. I just got past the first boss. He beat me 4 times until I discovered going back to the ship, augmenting the suit and the astronaut statue giving you that extra life. What a game. Yeah it doesn't hold your hand but that's the beauty of it. The atmospheric detail, the smooth 60fps, the 3d sounds and music, the haptic feedback, and did I mention shooting bad ass aliens with big ass guns. What's not to love. 👏👏👏 housmarque.
Simple tip to help maintain control, Settings - remap controls, R1 - Jump L1 - Dash R3 - Melee X - Consumable This way you get to keep your thumbs on the analog stick at almost all times. Have fun
I don't know how it was at the beginning but now, when you upgrade health it is NOT permanent, in the next cycle you have exactly the same amount as before. I think best option is to get a good weapon as fast as you can and just go for the boss and do your best because doing 1-2h cycle and then die on boss is frustrating af. It kinda annoys me because I really like this game but making 0 progress over and over again with every cycle if I don't kill the boss is just frustrating and pointless.
After almost 600 hours playing i must say this video is spot on and I’ll add just a few more details. Swipe all vines you see on the ground and you will get tons of in game currency this way. I know he mentions the fauna but i wanted to specify the vines you see on the ground. Also if you find a room with a bunch of vines for this you can rack up, leave the area and come back and Vines do grow back. I wanna say you can do the same with your bed in the ship as well. It does heal you and im sure you can leave the ship and go back in and use the bed some more. If anyone knows anything different please feel free to correct me. last ill add when you’re looking for the things to shoot to open gates if you dont see it and have headphones on hold the trigger to aim your weapon and if you’re near it but dont see it you will hear its light pulse while you’re aiming like you’re about to do your alt fire. But yeah the guide here is spot on. Hope you guys are still enjoying the game. Take care!
Electropylon Driver Gun is one of the best weapons you can get, especially the version where you shoot one pylon at a time, but the two-four shot scattering version works very well. Most enemies only take one to a few shots, if you encounter multiple enemies in front of you, just one shot each of them and have the freedom to dodge while the pylons do their work. The only downside I found with this weapon is when you have to eliminate Nemesis it is incredibly hard to aim if you have the scattering version of the gun.
Super helpful. I didn’t realize that green items would boost health capacity when your HP is full. I had been ignoring them and saving for when health was low. Also didn’t realize weapons cheats scaled w proficiency.
Just picked this up the other day, way late to the party, this is Fromsofts version of a shooter 🤣 I love it, I’m hooked. About 2 hours in, faced the first boss once and got him to final phase. Phew, a few failed runs later, I’m determined I’m beating this game. Heard it gets harder. SoulsBourneKiroRing training will suffice 🤣
Loved this game so much! I platinum'd it a few months ago. The best runs I've had where those I got Tachyomatic Carbine with the perk that converts a part of the damage into healing. That coupled with artifacts that increases healing where super overpowered. If you are trying to beat the game and get a wepon like this, keep it as far as you can, even if they are much lower level than others that you come across.
Really helpful and informative video. I already figured out most of these things but for a solid 10-15hrs I was trying to beat Nemesis and couldn't because I was running through sections instead of fighting and collecting money for upgrades..
I've had this game since release day April 30th 2021. Today September 29th I finally reached & died to the 2nd area boss. I've died everyday for 5 months to make it such a little way into this game. I know & use all tricks & tips always skipping triangle doors, still I die to the bosses so many times. Can not say it's a waste of money as I see it taking me a year or more to finally finish.
Yeah. I wish I never bought it. I play games to have fun and stuff like this is just frustrating work. At least now you can save your progress before major fights. It still takes me 20 tries to get past them, but at least I don't go all the way to the beginning again.
I really wish that this game gave you the option to save your run and come back to it. I know that you can pause and put the PS5 to sleep, but if there's a game/system update or if another game is loaded, you lose the run. I realize that the point of a roguelike/lite game is to do the whole thing in one go, but some of these runs get so long and it would be nice to take a break without losing all of my progress.
The shotgun in this game is what makes me almost unstoppable. Made it to the second boss but got shifted on by him lol. I love this game. Goty if the new god of war doesnt come out this year
Spitmaw is super strong in the Overgrown Ruins but like you were saying it lacks punch in the Wastes especially when fighting the 2nd Boss who loves to keep as far away from you as possible The being said the Slug Shot and Narrow Maw combo really hits the spot 🤤
@@TheDubDisciple yes indeed. So I finally beat the second boss and third one but died afterwards to one of those weird creatures that roam around. I dont know if it's as tough as demon souls but definitely has it's own toughness to it
Ahh yes. . Nothing like getting your max integrity way up, to then have enemies crush your health on the stairs up to the boss, making your now raised max integrity useless
I'll admit to saving healing items until I've cleared the place to boost my max integrity for the boss battle, particularly if I don't get the astronaut doll or whatever it is to revive me.
Been using a strat of going through each room clearing creeps and then grabbing everything but health. Later once I complete the area I go back for health upgrades
Once you clear an area fully. Before heading to the boss go and spend 6 ether at the reconstruction of complex entity mechine.. doing this enables you to restart from that point after death with fully health So that along with the astronaut figure is like having 3 lifes . Aka easy mode noii

Me too for some reason. It's crazy, I'm already hyped and waiting for the game to be delivered, but after seeing this video, I got a massive jolt of hype into my hype chamber. Weird lol
Fantastic tips, played for five hours yesterday, but now I have watched your video, I now feel more prepared for the challenge.
awesome
Played until the 3rd biome not knowing I could open those doors by shooting the red light. Thanks man!!

Bs lies that don’t work
@@walterabeyta733 so sleeping won’t heal?
They patched it. Can only heal once per run by sleeping and it's a small amount.
I beat the boss on my first try in the first biome. I have to say that is such an incredible boss fight. Very well done and fluid. I enjoyed that a lot. I hope the rest of the bosses are that fun
Lucky u.... I was sooo close but I had like -80% weapon dmg
I had good mods and still lost. Got snagged by the melee attack twice.
I got lucky and had that revive item that revives you at low health and killed it at with like 10 percent health left after that I got obliterated in 2nd biome but when I fought boss again in 1st biome I knew his moves and took one hit from him and them I destroyed him
3rd biome keeps destroying me with those giant ass robots that snag you
@@ravenXcozmo where do you get the revive item and isn’t their a item that revives you when you die
Important tip: If you find a consumible silphium, save it to the boss fight.
This really helped. I have ~40 deaths already on the first Biome and it's starting make me cry.
Classic controller layout is highly recommended
Makes alt-fire much easier
I’m currently replaying to collect every survey trophies, on my way to platinum this great game
To save time killing flora when there’s a lot, you can also walk/run over them.
Had a hell of a time last night with only two attempts on the first boss, and A LARGE amount of deaths traversing to it. But will be attempting these tips tonight after works. Thanks!
When you step into a new room always take a look at the map in the pause menu so you roughly know what to expect and where enemies might await you.
another good tip is use melee its great for staggering
Thanks for the help, I need it! Man, this game is punishing with no save points!
Great tips! I spent 90 min in biome 1 fully preparing for the second biome, and the game crashed right before I got to the second boss. I had a huge and full health bar, a large med kit, and an astronaut figurine, so I think the game was scared.
😂😂
I felt that
The developer wants to make a "challenging" game but they can't even make the game to work properly.
Really dumb.
good call with waiting to grab health items and weapons till the end
I was looking for a returnal vid, had a notification my boy Alex had some advice. Win.
The room on the your ship can heal you when you take a nap.
Yes but only one time per death.

I love when I buy a new game and look for tips and find out Boomstick Gaming has done a video on it....Awesome as always.
Incredibly helpful video!
I quit after dying to the first boss like 10 times, so I might actually give the game another shot now and try this.
Bruhh I've been on the 2nd boss for like 2 days. Best advice I can say is take a break and come back to it again and again and again. The more repetitious it becomes, you start learning the patterns of the bosses. I still haven't beaten 2nd boss yet though 😑
I wouldn't give up on the game though, it's challenging AF but really well made. Don't let it discourage you
It happens the same to me , but you get used to it .
You can dodge through objects mate. The first boss was easy once I realised that 😂.
I was just avoiding everything.
Game is so hard I’m on biome 3 and dying from drones they populated the small tiny area made me fall of the map
Man this game is harder than i though i cant get pass the first boss
Yes you can. I took my time throughout the entire first biome. Several hours worth of exploring and backtracking. I did step away a couple of times. But my health was up and I had a level 6 weapon just like he did in this video. The bosses movesets are telegraphed pretty easily. Fight him a few times and you will have him down. He is easier than you think. They give you lots of leeway in this fight. I thought I was going to have trouble with his melee in the third stage but it ended up being very easy as long as I was paying attention. It's telegraphed
😂
@@robk5437 thanks for the advice il keep trying i wont give up 😁

@@offdapace2627 just keep trying at him bro, I’m only 10 hrs in also and can’t get pass the second biome where I keep dying like crazy!! But ya got this.
You can't heal at the ship anymore after the update. =(
Damn I will definitely start to this. I’ve already hit a bit of a wall 4 hours in at the crimson waste even though I got a rank 7 gun almost immediately stepping into it. Glad I was able to get a PS5 to play this gem on release, and thanks for the tips.
The carbine with the tracker secondary is definitely my go to for the first 3 biomes. It tears through bosses too. Look for a high overheat limit too.
Carbine with Trackerswarm was by far my favorite weapon in the start.
Thanks a lot for the useful hints! I am going to make good use of those!
Thanks buddy, I saved this video for when I get an actual PS5 lol.
It took me 5 hours to beat the first area.
@@Yubyop Dude, that comment is 4 weeks old. I've completed the game a couple days later.

Wow. This was actually useful information. Thanks. I'll subscribe

Thanks man
Shoot from the hip don't aim down the sight. You'll hit your target and still be able to dodge easier.
So true. This game is VERY satisfying to play.
You can no longer rest for significant heals. It doesn’t about 10% heal now, once. Wish folks would stop recommending this.
@@randallorndorff Same. Imagine the disappointment people feel, seeing advice to go back to the ship, then it only heals a smidge of health, one time.
@@randallorndorff I posted this a week ago before they patched it
Now this is a great and short video about how to optimize gameplay. Thanks!
Simple tip to help maintain control,
Settings - remap controls,
R1 - Jump
L1 - Dash
R3 - Melee
X - Consumable
This way you get to keep your thumbs on the analog stick at almost all times. Have fun
that's actually a very good tip
I don't know how it was at the beginning but now, when you upgrade health it is NOT permanent, in the next cycle you have exactly the same amount as before. I think best option is to get a good weapon as fast as you can and just go for the boss and do your best because doing 1-2h cycle and then die on boss is frustrating af. It kinda annoys me because I really like this game but making 0 progress over and over again with every cycle if I don't kill the boss is just frustrating and pointless.
Is there anything permanent I realised this and thought why am I fighting enemies lol 😂
Jesus.. I wish I watched this video first... well done my dude
thanks!
Thanks mate this helped heaps got past the first boss 👍
Take care!
absolutely had no clue about the health bars. thanks man!!
Brilliant tips. Subbed!
hey thanks!
I would trade all these goodies you mentioned just to have a pick-up that gives me a checkpoint or two lol
Excellent tips! You've put many of the bigger gaming channels videos to shame with this one pal . Thanks very much indeed.
Playing this game for the first time now, on pc. What a game, but it's hard to get familiar with everything and this guide is great for that. Thanks!
If you are trying to beat the game and get a wepon like this, keep it as far as you can, even if they are much lower level than others that you come across.
thanks for the tips im really struggling in this game but have doing really the opposite of everything you suggested so will try again with those tips
Always be thorough in your search for items.I myself want to explore and find all items and secrets.
Loving the game, been playing it since release.
Really helpful and informative video. I already figured out most of these things but for a solid 10-15hrs I was trying to beat Nemesis and couldn't because I was running through sections instead of fighting and collecting money for upgrades..
Love the video I just picked up returnal for 30$ and I'm so glad I did this game is a blast although difficult as hell the gameplay is top notch
Straight up no bullshit, on point sir, on point
Why would you skip triangle doors?
Those all strategies I already use but LIKED and SUBSCRIBED just for that outro
I really wish that this game gave you the option to save your run and come back to it. I know that you can pause and put the PS5 to sleep, but if there's a game/system update or if another game is loaded, you lose the run. I realize that the point of a roguelike/lite game is to do the whole thing in one go, but some of these runs get so long and it would be nice to take a break without losing all of my progress.
There is an option to disable automatic updates. This means your run will not reset, when you are in Restmode and an update for Returnal is in queue.
No the game is just right like that. After the 3rd level you get a save point
Best guide, short and very on point, thank you
The shotgun in this game is what makes me almost unstoppable. Made it to the second boss but got shifted on by him lol. I love this game. Goty if the new god of war doesnt come out this year
Spitmaw is super strong in the Overgrown Ruins but like you were saying it lacks punch in the Wastes especially when fighting the 2nd Boss who loves to keep as far away from you as possible
The being said the Slug Shot and Narrow Maw combo really hits the spot 🤤
@@TheDubDisciple yes indeed. So I finally beat the second boss and third one but died afterwards to one of those weird creatures that roam around. I usually just play 1 or 2 runs since I usually last like 2 or 3 hours a run. This game is tough but I like the challendge. I dont know if it's as tough as demon souls but definitely has it's own toughness to it
Ahh yes. . Nothing like getting your max integrity way up, to then have enemies crush your health on the stairs up to the boss, making your now raised max integrity useless
Go to ship and sleep
I'll admit to saving healing items until I've cleared the place to boost my max integrity for the boss battle, particularly if I don't get the astronaut doll or whatever it is to revive me.
This is incredibly helpful!
Great tips buddy! Just started playing this on Play plus and it's awesome!
Been using a strat of going through each room clearing creeps and then grabbing everything but health. Later once I complete the area I go back for health upgrades
Once you clear an area fully. Before heading to the boss go and spend 6 ether at the reconstruction of complex entity mechine.. doing this enables you to restart from that point after death with fully health
So that along with the astronaut figure is like having 3 lifes . Aka easy mode noii
