  • What is Pixel Shift Multi-Shot?
    There was a lot of excitement when this was announced - and then a lot of disappointment after photographers started using it.
    We'll look at what Pixel Shift Multi-Shot does, its limitations, and how to use it here.
    If you're considering upgrading to a new camera because of this feature, I'd encourage you to watch the whole way through.

    For most of us, it's very fun, if you bring a tripod along. Every day use? Not for most of us... but yeah I have a 200 megapixel photo of my office, which I really like.

      Go make that 6’ x 9’ print of your office to justify Pixel Shift :)

    Great and simple explanation of the way it works. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for taking time out to explain some pretty valuable information. My results using Olympus weren't that amazing, I've yet to try it on my Fuji.........? However I'm blown away by my 51mp X1D images, with less hassle.

    • @PeltierPhoto
      @PeltierPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah what's wrong with a 50mp image on a large sensor by itself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?
      I think part of the issue is that 16-20 images are captured. Sony's Pixel-Shift captures only 4 images...less chance for errors. The X-Trans pattern would require more, but 20 seems excessive.

    Thanks for the info!! Would it be good for scanning your film?

    • @PeltierPhoto
      @PeltierPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think I’m the right person to ask about scanning film negatives, but I’m willing to bet that a more specialized scanner would work better than this.

    I'm really glad I saw this video before purchasing a new camera. Saw the feature advertised and on paper it sounds really good, but in reality, I definitely wouldn't be able to make good use of Pixel shift.

    Thanks for this. I've only done a quick test, but I think Pixel shift is going to be phenomenal for professional art reproduction. It will potentially improve colour accuracy or at the least speed up the process. I'll be able to print at significantly larger sizes without having to resort to AI upscaling - 130x87cm at 300ppi, comfortably A0. You can tether shoot directly to the app. It was made for this purpose really.

      Yeah that’s a great use case for it. Good luck!

      I suppose for art reproduction, using flash, one needs repeatably accurate flash power. During the combining, is there any sort of exposure fixing if the flash was a tenth or two one way or the other on some shots?

    • @PeltierPhoto
      @PeltierPhoto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@peteharper3299 no, it's just simply going to combine the pixels and not match tonality. When using artificial lighting for art reproduction, it's important to use a light source that is consistently the same color and without any flickering. This isn't my area of expertise, but I know that LED lights flicker to some extent, compared to filament-based bulbs that do not. A high-quality flash might give you _close enough_ light, but it could still be slightly off one exposure to the next.

    • @peteharper3299
      @peteharper3299 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PeltierPhoto Yeah, I just hear folk like Karl Taylor talk about consistency of his top line Broncolors - I'm using old secondhand Bowens so if/when I get a 100 or 100s, I might just leave the pixel shift for now! Saying that, I'm only reproducing for local artists so 102mpx will be an improvement over my 50s!

    • @PeltierPhoto
      @PeltierPhoto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@peteharper3299 I think if anyone can find artifacting/inconsistencies based on an imperceptible difference in manual flash output between exposures, they need to find better ways to spend their time :)

    The one area I can see this being super useful is for photogrammetry in a controlled environment.

    They should really update the software with something that Sony did - motion compensated combining. It won't yield the most accurate results but makes it possible to use this feature in landscape photography as well. Right now the system is extremely sensitive to movement and it can be a hassle to photograph simple static objects due to it.

    • @PeltierPhoto
      @PeltierPhoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it’s way too sensitive.

    Great function but I still can not believe that modern processor are not able to process the final image in camera and you are obliged to use a separate software and save 20 files on the memory card. Other brand offer the final image on camera.
