I literally just finished installing the Peerless Assassin 120 SE on an AsRock Z97 Extreme9 MOBO (LGA1150) and applied Arctic MX-6 thermal compound. Yeah, quite old rig; I know, however, the offender is a Core i7-4790k which is well-known for running hot (and I mean HOT). In spite of the fact that I am using this rig in hot Bangkok, Thailand (with a 30°C+ average temp) the CPU has been running stable anywhere between 27 °C to 35 °C with my room aircon ON set at 25 °C while when turning the aircon OFF the CPU registers temps around 39 °C to 45 °C (at idle or low loads). The max temperature I have registered under heavy loads has been 65 °C. Not bad for a 35 USD CPU cooler. I would say: get the Thermalright and buy some cake ;)
I was going to ask the same thing, Thermalright is my go to for builds now, their air coolers & AIO's are amazing value, i felt justified in using them a few years back when they launched after i saw Gamers Nexus reviewing them.
I have a peerless assassin 120 se I forgot to plug the fans in on and it ran cooler (40-45C idle and 68-80C under load) than my cooler master 240 aio that I remembered to plug in properly at 45-52C idle and 74-88C under load. When I plugged in the fans it now idles at 35-37C and under load runs at 65-72C.
Scythe as a brad is top tier for PC peripherals they even used to sell case and power supplies it's nice Greg is putting some spot light on not so well known brands.
Thanks a lot for a fair description of this air cooler. I have a scythe product ( Mugen 5 ) in my pc for at least 4 years and it works perfectly fine and keeps my cpu very cool under any conditions. I just changed my setup from a 9900K to a 14900K and the only thing i had to do to fit the cooler was to get a LGA 1700 back plate for only a few bucks. Just don't forget that like any other air coolers, you have to keep it clean to have good results.
Been rocking the Fuma 3 since it came out and it has been a fantastic little cooler. I picked it up not long after Hardware Canuck's review of it for my Ryzen 5 3600 to replace the stock cooler, and migrated it over to the Ryzen 5 7600 upgrade. It's a little overkill for both, but the noise levels are tolerable and the size is sweet for a dual fan tower cooler. The included screwdriver is legit, though. It ended up making it's way into my PC repair kit. If RAM clearance isn't an issue it's hard to justify the extra $10-15 over Thermalright alternatives, but I def don't regret picking it up over other options and have still recommended the Fuma 3 to friends building/upgrading their computers.
I've been rocking a Scythe Mugen ARGB Plus CPU cooler on my Ryzen 3700X and now Ryzen 7700 for a number of years now. I have absolutely no complaints and that screwdriver is indeed really nice. That said, the air cooler market has become extremely competitive in recent years. Established brands like Scythe, BeQuiet and even Noctua have come under a lot of pressure by companies like Arctic and Thermalright. Though I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Scythe CPU cooler if it was on sale.
I have that one. My friend bought one and recommended. I had been using the stock cooler that came with my 3770k since 2012 and still the same thermal paste so it was a really big upgrade in terms of thermals. It is massive in size AND performance. Playing games had my cpu on stock cooler hit around 70c constant, now it's in the 50 - 60c max. AND I changed the thermal paste... After 12 years... XD For the price, here in brazil, there is no better cooling solution.
With Thermalright, Scythe, and some others, the sub 70$ cooler market is booming again :) Its great to see these taking over rather then the overpriced coolers.
I built my brother a 13600K system and it’s rocking this exact cooler! Fantastic little thing, and the screwdriver I’ve reused so many times, it’s such a nice little bonus
I just tried the Thermalright Assassin 120 SE ARGB, and it has better performance that my Kraken X63 water cooler. Amazing that less expensive coolers can produce such great results.
I'm running the Fuma 2 with my 3900X. It's been a fantastic cooler, and lowered my temps quite a bit compared to the included Wraith Prism. I highly recommend one of these.
Big, chonky, and most importantly, it looks sleek. The front fan being slim and the mass it has, not having to worry about RAM compatibility, is so nice if you want to showcase your RAM. Plus a screwdriver that I actually use since the magnet is tight. I have this and Peerless Assassin 2, and both are great options.
Here in Sweden , The Fuma 3 is tad expensive (even though it's $49.99 in US) but in Sweden it would be 830-849kr.. While the Termalright Peerless Assasin is ~400-450kr).
I still have Scythe FUMA 2 from 2019 for my Ryzen 5 3700X i think it is a recomandation from this chanel aswell and its runing like in first day , i am more than happy and next one will be FUMA 3 definetly !
Yeah, they're likely very similar. Again, couldn't find anything online - but I would take a manufacturer's TDP with a grain of salt anyway because they all tend to measure it differently. The PA is $15 cheaper, yes, but isn't curved the same way the Fuma 3 is and thus isn't compatible with many RAM kits. Looks are subjective as well, but I still think this looks better. Whether that's worth the $ difference, not sure.
I'm a Thermalright believer but the Fuma has much better ram compatibility and better fans. I'd still get a TR cooler but the Fuma 3 is a very good cooler imho
At $50, I feel like there is too much competition for the fuma 3. The positive thing about the Thermalrite is that it costs $30 for $50+ worth of cooling performance. So if you were gonna get, say a hyper 212 due to budget restraints, the Thermalrite Peerless Assassin 120SE would be a better by 11/10 times.
This review is exactly why I love Greg’s channel-his integrity really shines through, especially when he openly mentions that he’s been paid by BeQuiet in the past. Class act, Greg!
I run a Scythe Mugen 6 Black Edition (Dual fan version), so far have loved it and it has kept my 11700k in check even with OC's. Scythe makes some good/solid bang for the buck - also the memory clearance was a main selling point over anything else as well.
this would probably be the best value... if thermalright didn't exist im convinced thermalright is making 0 profit off of the coolers. 30$ for a dual tower is stupid
I think the PA is $35, not $30. It also doesn't support larger RAM kits in its dual-fan form. But yeah. It's pretty nuts how cheap they made it. Performance looks great as well. Can't wait to test it.
@@GregSalazar PA's pricing is a bit all over the place. it goes from 32$ to 36 depending on what you're looking for. You could just place the fan a bit higher to put larger ram kits. It might have a minor hit but it'll probably work.
Why would you need one? Because the current one I have is like 7 years old and still doing great. Replace fans if anything. Thermalright is great too btw if you are looking for a good budget.
Great vid! Honestly, I'm totally okay with brands not including TDP ratings on their coolers. Two coolers with the same TDP ratings can vary wildly in terms of actual cooling performance because of how differently companies measure it.
Pretty cool cooler. Would be nice to see them at an RGB version for $10 more. Also I don’t think that the dark rock 4 is worth it anymore. It’s a fantastic cooler but for that price you can get a 360mm AIO from arctic, montech, or even $68 from thermalright. I guess if someone only wants an air cooler I could see the argument but as far as the $100 price range goes why not just go with a better AIO for the same price. The only thing I could see is if people were worried about the pump going out which is valid. I know if my current AIO goes out I’ll probably get the thermalright assassin or a $100 AIO from the above stated companies.
Scythe makes my favorite cpu coolers. I have the older Mugen 5 (very quiet) and the newer Fuma 3 (stays a little cooler than Mugen). I like to think of a Scythe cooler as a "Budget Noctua" -great quality cooling at close to 1/2 the price of a Noctua.
Greg being completely transparent about bequiet being a major sponsor is pretty awesome. Even though this cooler didn't do quite as well as the bequiet one, he still wanted to make sure we knew it wasn't due to personal bias.
Rubbish, I got the impression he was totally bias, that's why he come clean. All these youtubers just chase the money, that's why he has a big house and fancy cars.
Although it doesn't have the offset fitment, I have found that, in terms of value, Thermalright Peerless and Phantom models have been KILLER and I think they JUST put out a 140mm model. Their coolers are OFTEN $35-45 USD and are stellar value especially for a dual tower. I have used the Fuma 3 and it is a great cooler and has great compatibility, but for those who are willing to keep an eye on their RAM compatibility and save some money, I would go with the Thermalright. Also, what you save in money does NOT compromise on performance. The Phantom And Peerless are exceptional performers.
Thermalright is hard to beat on price right now, but ti's nice to see alternative. You should test everything VS the D15 V2(with different plate shape), Noctua managed to raise the bar again.
@Marc-zf3xv Thats pretty awesome for $49. I have a 5800x3D as well but a Noctua NH-U12A cooler which is way more expensive lol (about $120) and my cpu maxes at around 73 im cinebench, though the 5 noctua a12x25 fans also help xD
ive been saying this for years... what alot of people miss is that its in the top ten for cooling but at a fraction of the decible rating... upgrade teh fan if you need to, this cooler is more engineered than any other HSF IMO and MUCH CHEAPER
Personally, I use ThermalRight coolers up here in Canada rather than Scythe. The former is a heck of a lot cheaper and does the same thing as Scythe. The Scythe Fuma 3 is $82.49 from Scythe on Amazon. Scythe is way overpriced here and not easily available.
I can't speak for any other market other than the U.S. $49.99. Of course, $80+ is out of the question. Loses all value. The Thermalright equivalent for $15 less doesn't support larger RAM kits. Doesn't look as good, either, and seems to run a bit louder from what I've seen. It's a tough choice here IMO.
@@GregSalazar All I can say is that I have built 3 Intel systems with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 ($44.90 CDN) and chose memory and case that fit and the cooler was dead silent in the case. Scythe for some reason decides to ship items from the USA which is a deal killer for their entire product line here in Canada.
Would love too see comparison of the Fuma 3 vs comparable verison from companies like Thermaltake, Arctic, CoolerMaster. Think it would an interesting video idea. Always, Ty Greg for the great vids.
The ID Cooling S225-XT is also pretty decent. I've been running it on my 5600X (yes it's a low tdp chip, but in my climate - which is hella dry and hot, the stock cooler didn't cut it). ID cooling is also a good budget brand even for AIOs
Besides the "frontal" design of the cooler, it is also note worthy of a mentionis the rear part of the cooler and how it clears the rear IO of the motherboard you selected for the video which seems to be quite tall/tick as well.
I have the Fuma 2 on my Ryzen 7 3700X, and even though it's a measily 65W CPU, the fans on the cooler spin at 170RPM quite literally at all times, except for very intensive loads... It just cools really well for the price. That being said, I will go with Noctua next time, simply because I can easily order new CPU mounts and I would very much like to reuse my cooler.
I don't think it's biased because of bequiet! sponsoring. I am also a bequiet fan but of course you can get cheaper coolers with nearly same performance. I got my dark rock pro 3 about 7 years ago I think. Still happy with the performance.
There is one aspect you can't test easily: The lifetime of the included fans. My experience with BeQuiet is that the fans last years. Good fans are very expensive.
There's nothing wrong with that. I have a Deep Cool Ninja Assassin 3 in my build which cost almost double what this does and I would bet this would do as good a job or close enough not to matter. I'm definitely a proponent of air cooling because there's so little to potentially fail. Even if one of the tower fans failed, I bet you could still run the system for most tasks and have enough cooling until you could get a replacement. If an AIO or custom loop pump fails (and they eventually will) you are done until you replace it. The one downside is you need a case with reasonably good airflow to take full advantage of air cooling. Those closed in aquarium stile ones need not apply.
Great cooler, I have 1 in my closet with a few other air coolers and liquid freezer II 420 but using Noctua NHD 15 in my main PC and NHD 12 in my second PC. Unfortunately the Fuma 2 was a better performer but I sold it with one of my older PCs. It's also great for DDR 5 as it needs the cooling it will provide. Oh and if you change that crappy slim fan it will outperform the Bequiet cooler, love Bequiet but their air coolers are not great for price compared to the competition.
The Peerless Assassin is a bit better performance than the Fuma 3 but the way the Fuma 3 is offset and clears the RAM is a deal maker for me. My big problem is that I have a Fuma 2 cooling a 12700K for the past two years and its performance is all I need. Scythe makes an awesome cooler. And you'd be surprised how handy that screwdriver is. I have it in my pen bin on my desk and I probably use it twice a week.
Ok I gotta say this. I thought you were 100% Ferrari. Glad to see you supporting McLaren. Funnily enough I was wearing my McLaren replica shirt at work today. Luckily I work at an F1 store, so its fully accepted 🤣
If you don't care about tall rgb ram sticks, it's better to go for a Thermalright Phantom spirit, it cools just as good as a 280mm aio. Just a couple degrees warmer
Personally I would go with the thermalright phantom spirit for $35 or phantom spirit evo for $49 it has a sleeker all black design and is the same thing as the fuma but it is compatible with most ram.
I don't believe either of those Thermalright coolers are as compatible with larger RAM kits as the Fuma 3. That said, it's an easy fix. Looking forward to testing them soon!
Idk man, thermalright, Can get the Phantom Spirit for $35, its a bit better than the peerless assassin, a roughly the same if not a tiny bit better than the nh-d15 at a smaller foot print. Still good cooler none the less.
I know this is a desktop pc channel, but is there any chance you could review framework laptops? PS thanks for standing up for customers on the MSI Mag Core AIO Recall. I was personally affected and they deserved to be called out.
I've been sitting on the Fuma 2 for a couple years now, but I haven't been able to use it because my case doesn't have enough height to fit it. I would love to finally use it on my upcoming 5700x3d, but I've been incredibly conflicted on which case to get.
That is one beefy cooler, also it's nice that it doesn't have those pins sticking out from the top like certain coolers do. Also also, Greg get a haircut, you look like a hippie.
I was considering the FUMA 3, but since Hardware Canucks tested it with a 3rd fan, which made the performance even better, I wanted a 3rd fan, which isn't available here in Europe yet, so one can only get the cooler (with included fans), and I sure wasn't going to buy 2 coolers just to take the fan from one of them. But since then Arctic released their Liquid Freezer III, which I went with the 420 one, since that was cheaper than the 360, I think it's because 360 AIOs are more common and fits in more cases, whereas 420s can't fit in many cases (including mine people said, but I made it fit). watch?v=jfnWstf7jTU
I wonder if would be enough for ryzen 9 5950x play PC cases it has enough clearance for 160 mm coolwr height and fot AM4 im goinh to be trying to build in the GT301 case zaku II Edition
The NH-D15s that I have is good. Pay that price again? No. Getting the d15s was just a curious buy and ease of fan install, is not as easy with this storm trooper with a 200mm fan at the top. Would go cheaper. As long as the reviews say it matched more expensive options or came close.
@@GregSalazar appreciate a quick response. The typical Mugens usually are weaker than the fuma. The newest Mugen release has 2 versions the typical 1 fan setup and an all black version with 2 fans. That's the one that is I thought was better. I was coming from fuma 2 so I could put that on a spare extra pc
@GregSalazar I was misremembering the GN review from 3 yrs ago. It was 125W, where it was still very good. Because of the relatively low top RPM of the fans, it wasn't recommended for higher wattage CPUs or significant overclocks. I suppose you could just switch the fans and go bawlz 2 da wall!
Oh, I see how it is, Ferrari aren’t doing so good this year… still waiting for Sir Lewis Hamilton to show up. McLaren on the upswing… Greg shows up in a McLaren shirt.
I've been running mine on a 14900 (non-K) and it does just fine with a mild undervolt. You'd probably be fine. If you for sure wanna play it safe without cutting into clocks/voltages, ya can't go wrong with a beefy 360mm AIO. That's about where larger air coolers tend to tap out.
Newsflash: your $65 240mm AIO won't perform much better than a large dual tower air cooler like this one once your fluid temperatures have equalized :-) Also, less hassle and points of failure with an air cooler. I'd only consider an AIO for most higher-end builds if I could work a 360mm _minimum._ 420mm would be ideal.
I'd be curious to see the fuma 3 against the thermalright peerless assassin 120 SE.

ive been saying this for years... what alot of people miss is that its in the top ten for cooling but at a fraction of the decible rating... upgrade teh fan if you need to, this cooler is more engineered than any other HSF IMO and MUCH CHEAPER
Love your honesty 🙌
What I like about the Fuma is looks better than thermalright but is still not expensive and cool just as well
Would love too see comparison of the Fuma 3 vs comparable verison from companies like Thermaltake, Arctic, CoolerMaster.
I have the Scythe Mugen 5 in a couple of builds. Great cooler, now a bit more expensive than the Thermalright options.
Scythe Mugan cooler I just installed on a secondary PC, keeps the PC cooler in the 40s on idle/light to moderate operation.
Still have the Fuma 2, temps been great and its quiet :)
Then you for the video Got scythe shuriken for the past 4 year good cooler and ok priced
I don't think it's biased because of bequiet! sponsoring. I am also a bequiet fan but of course you can get cheaper coolers with nearly same performance. I got my dark rock pro 3 about 7 years ago I think. Still happy with the performance.
Scythe and DeepCool really saving the people who dont trust AIOs
Sucks deepcool is now banned in the US
That McLaren DRIP!!! Yesss!!!!
Congrats on the McLaren win
I love my FUMA 2! And in what is my upgrade I wanna do comming up I may just have to do this one
I'm a big fan of both. Also owned a 360 a while back and own a 650S now. They make great (albeit, unreliable) cars!
@@GregSalazar I knew you was a Ferrari fan, just really surprised me seeing you repping McLaren ,,, in a good way.
If you don't care about tall rgb ram sticks, it's better to go for a Thermalright Phantom spirit, it cools just as good as a 280mm aio. Just a couple degrees warmer
Damn, didn't know Greg is a McLaren fan! nice to know haha
I use the thermalright spirit and it's amazing got it for 35 on Amazon usd
If my aio goes bad once, id honestly get this , i only went aio because ram
My man supports the correct f1 team😌😌
Hello, can you please tell me if Scythe Fuma 3 can cool a Ryzen 9 9900X?
Thank you very much!
In tough competition with ID-Cooling FROZN A620 PRO SE , Thermalright Peerless Assassin 140, Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo CPU Air Coolers.
There’s a rev2 on the way soon
Are you a race car driver now???
I'll look into Framework!
Ok ok ok ok I'll get a haircut 😅
Looking at the charts the 50 savings is worth it!
Really should have compared it against the phantom spirit 120 evo, pretty much its only competition at that price point.
Like I said in the video - that review is coming soon!
The heatsink on the IO side of the motherboard for fuma 2 was tight for my rog strix z590. Any thoughts on that regarding fuma 3?
I still have half an inch of clearance over my ASUS Hero BTF rear I/O - and that's about as bit as most motherboards get.
Off topic, but where can I obtain that shirt Greg 👀
I wonder how it would go up against the painless assassin 140 that came out recently

Yeah a 420mm is a beast.
Better than peerless assassin 120 SE?
Running a peerless assassin 120 se now on a 5600x coolers getting pretty good
Seems a lot of folks prefer it for its insane price. Definitely next on my list to review!
I wonder if would be enough for ryzen 9 5950x play PC cases it has enough clearance for 160 mm coolwr height and fot AM4 im goinh to be trying to build in the GT301 case zaku II Edition
This would be nice for my proxmox server
The NH-D15s that I have is good. Pay that price again? No. Getting the d15s was just a curious buy and ease of fan install, is not as easy with this storm trooper with a 200mm fan at the top. Would go cheaper. As long as the reviews say it matched more expensive options or came close.
I am running the sythe Mugen 5 Now
Mugen 5 is a great one! We reviewed rev.B a while back!
@@GregSalazar That's why I bought it , it's on a 13600k
I know you don't have time for it, but we want daily fix or flop. 😊
Man nice review Greg, but I got the Scythe Mugen 6 black days ago and is better than the Fuma 3.
Not sure what ya mean by "better" - the Mugen 6 should be, on paper, a slightly weaker cooler. It's a class below the Fuma lineup.
Lol, Oscar won Baku, and I see you’re reppin the McLaren shirt! Who’s your favorite team/driver overall??
I'm a big Leclerc fan. Glad to see Ferrari back in it. Probably more of a Ferrari fan than McLaren, but they're my top two teams for sure.
@@GregSalazar Same here. Really thought he had this race in the bag, but once Oscar passed him, and his tires hit the cliff, second it was.
@@alexandercotman2553 Oscar is such a cool cucumber on the track. For a 2nd year rookie, he acts like he's been driving for a decade or more.
@@GregSalazar Fully agreed. He’s definitely going to be the future of McLaren as his ceiling (for now) is seeming quite a bit higher than Lando’s.
The Fuma 2 was Great for what it is. Anything over 85W It was not recommended for. Is the Fuma3 really suitable for a 14900K/7950X?
Edit: 125W
85W? From where are ya getting this number? I never said the Fuma 3 was suitable for a 14900K. We used a 14900 non-K originally.
I got the 2021 thermaltake 510 air cooler 😮
Oh, I see how it is, Ferrari aren’t doing so good this year… still waiting for Sir Lewis Hamilton to show up. McLaren on the upswing… Greg shows up in a McLaren shirt.
Could this one be good for the 7800x3d?
I've been running mine on a 14900 (non-K) and it does just fine with a mild undervolt. You'd probably be fine. If you for sure wanna play it safe without cutting into clocks/voltages, ya can't go wrong with a beefy 360mm AIO. That's about where larger air coolers tend to tap out.
Nice shirt. 🎉
you should always watch like 5 videos or more befor buying anything anyway
50$ for a fan is wayy too much, you can get a very good Watercooler for 65 :))!
