When I first started fishing for bass 5 years ago, I exclusively used a fluke for 2 years. Twist locks are amazing at saving you from going through a ton of baits. Also belly weighted ewg hooks give it the best glide out of any weighted set up.
The fluke is my favorite bait to fish. I've noticed my hookups are way better with a round bend worm hook as opposed to an EWG. There's really very little plastic the hook has to go through (because of the hook slot) so a worm hook makes more sense to me. It really lets me just lean into the fish lightly and they get hooked in the top way more. Also decreases break-offs since you don't have to set the hook nearly as hard
I have never caught a fish on a fluke and have a couple packages. I’ve never been able to quite visualize how to use em but this video got me to “see” it thanks Matt
Great content. Try the VMC drop dead weighted hooks. The lighter weights in particular. Keeps the bait horizontal. Even has a screw lock. Been using them for a while now.
This method allows for using a loop knot on the nose opening up the action weighting the balance point changes everything just great fun to fish even the 2 fluke rig as you have described in a previous episode 😊😊😮🎉
Thanks again Matt, I love the concept of adding the treble hook and the bobber stop but what is the secret to getting the bobber stop on the hook? I have tried it and it is almost impossible to do.
Could be a size issue. Bobber stops do come in different sizes so maybe thats the deal, otherwise if you put a dot of oil in the stop. Should help it slide.
Great tips Matt! Forgot about pegging the bait to the hook back when worm fishing with straight shank hooks.Used to always have some toothpicks in the box.Definately gonna add a little weight to the Flukes for those deeper outer grass lines.
Thanks Matt. Your right about it being a fun way to catch bass. Fall is a prime time also. Open water I nose hook it, works great and the action is better. Any luck with the larger (7") flukes? I haven't tried them and never seen anyone use them on bass. They my keep the dinks at bay.
I was tinkering with soft jerkbaits last week and I found that the strike King blade minnow chatterbait trailer does a fantastic job. Great side to side darting action and has a slim profile so it comes through cover well
Thanks for the tips on soft plastic jerk baits. Does the bobber stopper fit easily over the hook point to slide to the offset part of the hook or over the hook eye?
Down here in the Basin the water is always muddy or chocolate milk very seldom clear. Which color would you use. You might want to try using the cork screw bait keeper on a Texas Rig hook to hold my bait up on the hook
Have you tried a medium size twist keeper in the nose of the jerkbait screwing it down just below the shin then use a size 1 or 1/0 hook tipping through the nose of bait and the twist lock? Works great in a saltwater application. Then you can use nail weight as needed per the fall style you want. Bet it would in freshwater just as well! Happy Holidays everyone!
@@MattStefanFishing thanks i appreciate it and i thank God i still feel really young Matt im only 34 and living the American dream what more could i ask for.
I have used the flukes a few times. Yet to catch anything yet, but one of the times I was using it when it would get close to the shore, there was constantly a bunch of small bass chasing it. Just gotta find the big ones
Have a club tourney next weekend, gonna give all these tips a try, love throwing a fluke but the hookup ratio is not good!! I think these tips will help, thanks Matt, your awesome buddy!!!
I use the donkey rig with soft JB’s and man it’s a phenomenal way to find em!! Great tips though I never thought of the treble and nail weight, that’s some real juice, thanks brother!!
I dont use these as often as I should especially the brighter colors, Matt do you use these on spinning or baitcasting rods and what line size do you prefer???
Yo yo yo Matt you're a genius💡I don't know if you came up with that bob stop on the hook, either way thanks for sharing that. Usually I use the screw lock EdubG hooks when I'm flukin but sometimes I use the regular regular ones if I'm fishing around lots of downed trees and bushes also the screw lock hooks are a little more expensive. Anyway yeah I'm going to definitely use this.
i like to use an owner flashy swimmer hook on my soft jerkbaits from time to time to get extra attention. Looks like a schooling minnows/shad too. I caught my PB on that setup.
The fluke bite has really kicked into high gear in my area. I like throwing the fluke jr. on a finesse setup. But my favorite way to use it is to take a good 1/4 oz bladed jig that thumps as soon as that line moves, take the skirt off, and use a fluke jr. as a trailer. I jig it around like I would a normal pitching jig, popping it and stroking it, and it's really erratic. I can't tell you how many fish I've caught doing that.
I always do, braid to swivel to floro. I also use yellow braid as a strike inductor but blacken 5' back from the swivel. Sometimes that braid will just twitch and it will be the biggest bass on a fluke that day. I hate line twist.
I didn’t always throw jerkbaits much, and soft ones hardly at all, but I’ve changed my ways. Throw them frequently now. They provoke strikes. Great tips
I prefer to use a spring lock in the nose then just use a drop shot hook through the nose and spring keeper. Stays on the hook really well and hookup ratio is excellent.
Am I the only one using parasite clips on my soft plastics ? Talk about durability ! Multi fish on the same bait. No tearing it up. Saves me a ton of money
Just looked those up on Tackle Warehouse. Looks like a great idea & design. TW is out of stock right now, so I may try making my own from stainless wire or maybe copper. Thanks for turning me on to these.
Instead of using a tooth pick I've used very heavy monofilament line. The really stiff stuff, like 50lb or whatever fits well in the diameter of that hook eye.
Why not just buy hooks that have the adjustable weights and slide the weight all the way back so it floats evenly down? They also have the weighted hooks were you thread the nose on. So that one hook takes away two of the three problems...
It's a Mustad power lock spring keeper hook- weighted. Owner makes one similar but it has a fixed weight that doesn't move. I like the adjustable because I can fine tune the weight to the size fluke or paddletail I'm using

Great tips and I'm going implement all three! Last year I tried to come up with rigging a treble to the back and it didn't work well at all.
give this a try!

really? As long as you find the hole with the point it seems to go on fine for me.
Could be a size issue. Bobber stops do come in different sizes so maybe thats the deal, otherwise if you put a dot of oil in the stop. Should help it slide.

The "Incredible" Slugo is still a great and overlooked soft jerk bait!
💯
it is a good one
Wow I didn't even know they still made them. Was that lunker city slugos.
@@kevinbeaudean704 hell yeah they do. Yes your correct I get them from bass pro
Caught my personal best on the old Slugo

big flukes can be great!
I have been waiting for this one, I have a hook up problem. I'm like 10% maybe. I like to throw tandems. The 2nd hook should work great Thanks Matt

go over the hook point. its not easy but works great

you can use boh baitcasting and spinning gear. I generally go with spinning gear and 8-12lb fluorocarbon depending on water clarity
Keep the jerkbait tips coming Matt! One of the styles I am determined to get more time on the water with.
will do!

good luck fishing! it works great!
I bend that EWG hook up a little help a bunch on hook ups.
sounds good!
I like the VMC Ringed HD Wide Gap hook its bent up and to the side from the Factory like it should be. It has a 99.9% hook up ratio for me.
Going to try this out tomorrow, thank you for the pro tips!
Have fun!
What size bobber stop is that. The ones I have would never go over my hook..
Just the standard size

spinning
what bobber stop are you using?
i dont have a favorite

ill use a small swivel a few feet above the fluke.
Great job how about having two soft baits on two different lengths line that works well
sounds good!
Hey Matt how long will soft plastic be good in the pack ??
if its a sealed bag it can last for a LONG time
Great video what size bobber stop
varies based on thickness of hook
Thank you Matt.
My pleasure!
Great tips, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Are you sure it works year round? esp up there in WI? 😜
just got to drill big enough holes
That’s a great tip I use a heavy piece of fishing line instead of a tooth pick but like yours better
sounds good!
Thanks Matt!

What If we just let it sink slowly before retrieving it? Thanks for this vid by the way!
that will get some bites!
I haven’t been able to figure out why I haven’t had much success with flukes. Now I’m gonna try some of those crazy colours… let you know.
Good morning Matt hey can you give me name of glide bait you use the one you really like think you said around 150:00 dollars thank you be safe 🇨🇱🇺🇸💪
phoney frog glide bait and the Legrady donut

they get bit!

haha! it was haha!

Whats the best hook for jerkbait?
I like a offset worm hook
Rehook treble helps action
nice!

Probably one of the best baits for mods; so many cost-effective alterations. Great ideas from other viewers in comments below.
Couldn't agree more!
My number one soft plastic for Neko rig is a fluke
awesome!
If you want to use a toothpick in the hook eye...Give a FLAT toothpick a try.... Been using for sometime...Works really well.👍

Owner weighted twist lock is money...no issues at all with hooking up.

Hook all is a great tool to secure your plastics with small disks it’s made by rapid fishing !!!
yep ive used them. they are decent but you better have the tool to get the disk on.
Great tips
thanks!

Save baits by using screw lock hooks. Bait will last 10 times longer even on a hot bit.

Am I the only dummy out here that can't rig a fluke straight on the hook to save my life? Nose hook it is.
