Love when y’all do this technique every time because I’m one of those people who has no confidence in a hard jerk bait but all the confidence in the world on a fluke. Thanks as always for the information sir.
Oh the donkey rig works out here in Japan too. It’s funny how much Japanese stuff you guys use while in Japan I’m using American techniques. I’ve had so many chases and bites using donkey rigs. I’m probably the only one on the water throwing it out here. lol.
I really can't express how impressive your breakdowns are. Organized thoughts, detailed yet simple explanations. Love your videos and looking forward to applying what I'm learning here!
I’ve been throwing my typical colors of super flukes with limited success. I’m on the Georgian Bay catching smallies. After your suggestion to add gold, I switched to Sungill. Absolutely smoked them today. What can I say? You’re the best fishing channel on TH-cam. Period.
Matt there is no way to explain how amazing you and Tim are at helping everyone learn all the techniques. Truly a masterpiece and unbelievable talent to watch. I absolutely love your video’s and can’t wait for the next one. God bless and stay safe!!
Hello Matt. Love the in-depth videos. I got one point to recommend to you to try for Smallmouth that I use up here in Southern Ontario Canada...Baits with Copper flake till 10:30am then the same colour bait in Gold flake for rest of the Day. When Sun starts to set low go back to Copper...Sunlight Angle to match the flake...Enjoy!!
Great fluke update. I spent a few hours this evening fishing the donkey rig. A bit difficult to cast, but super fun to fish. Earlier this year I started nose hooking. I found that if I use a snell knot my hookup ratio immediately goes up.
I'll tell yah one thing, up here in NY where I currently live, the bass are super pressured and those soft jerk baits have saved my day on more days than I can count. Great video Matt.
@c.shoefish where are you in NY? I also live in NY and am looking to find some good places and good people to fish with. The last month has been sooooo tough for me fish wise bc I can only usually bank fish and don't have much transportation, add on top its so soooo highly pressured by me, it's really been a struggle lately.
Hey Matt, I made a comment on a video that Tim done not long ago on fluke style baits. If you guys haven't tried using a vertical line tie hook with a screw lock, give it a try. I'm telling ya bro they wrk awesome n the flukes last ten times longer.
i fish in the south saving this video when I pick up bait and tackle gonna give your recommendations a try. thank you for your insight. years of fishing knowledge getting picked up in 32 minutes
terrific vid, Matt! Such a fun way to fish and very versatile. I started throwing the Mach Skooler, and love it. For a smaller preso like bfs, it’s my fav. God bless!
Thanks Matt, been catching them good on the whiplash over the summer, fun bait! Also the damiki armor shad 7" is different, burn straight back, great swim!
The xzone whiplash shad has been a game changer this year for me on the full-size side and also the Keitech impact shad in ghost sunfish for bfs the action on the impact shads as the sink is magic
Another awesome video thanks Matt for your time and sharing these wonderful tips we all greatly appreciate every thing you and Tim share with us. Maybe in the near future would it be possible to put out a video on how much you should be working the rod take like 5 baits, that way the beginner anglers would have a better idea that is doesn’t take much ,some may be working too much, that’s why I’m asking if yow can fit that in down the line. Thanks so much to the both of you be safe and god bless.
Love what you taught here but I want to add, tangentially related to flukes; I'm a pond angler primarily, no boat, but even when I get out on a lake the one fluke-like bait that PRODUCES sizable bass for me is the KVD Caffeine shad in KVD Magic. I'm not an old angler by any means, less than 5 years under my belt, but that thing kills for good largemouth. Current PB caught on that, 4lbs largemouth on a 0.3acre public park pond.
My lake regularly has only 6-8 inches of visibility. I have very little luck on flukes . They never eat top water either.Only way I can catch em is on moving baits with rattles ,or chatter baits, spinner baits or big swimsbaits..if I fish a drag bait it has to have rattles it seems..clear grass lakes have soo many options
Thanks for more great info. You turned me onto soft jerkbaits in one of your past videos and it has become my go-to bait for big northern river smallmouth. Combine that with a senko rigged wacky for a flow-up bait and it’s a combination that’s hard to beat. I think your remiss in not including the KVD Caffeine Shad on your list. I think the Caffeine Shad is hard to beat for effectiveness and durability. I have been using the Owner Twistlock hooks for the 5” Caffeine Shad which also improves durability. I agree nose hooking the Super Fluke is the most effective for catching fish. I use swivels of different sizes to help adjust fishing depth and action, and reduce line twist. Thanks again for all the great info!
Bass assassin was what I used way before I ever heard of a zoom fluke. Bass assassination still has the best darting action of them all. Try some your be sold.
I love donkey dancing! Super fluke junior ice chased by a baby base super fluke catches bigs! Thanks you have changed my fishing! Crazy I think the fish thinks they have competition for the baby ice. Violent hits.
Watermelon red flake is a killer in small ponds with bluegill. I prefer to use the Strike King KVD Coffee Shad, but there’s nothing wrong at all with the og zoom super fluke!
My top 3 fluke style baits are z man streaks , bass assian fluke , Yamamoto d Shad , kinda a un know style of fluke fishing is the z man streaks with a light wire hook will float so you can fish it like a skipping bait on the surface or a twitch and set technique with it floating on the surface on I have found if fishing holes in grass or around tree tops and it turns in to great top water baits
Speaking of Northern fisheries and bluegill as well we've found that while we electric shad is a staple zoom has the Bluegill flash with that little bit of gold I literally have one tied on right now
I believe that is where fluke came from. For me i never could get hang of slugo, however the berkley power slug was a power bait infused slugo but had a hook slot. Man this bait rocked
I've had real good luck tying my donkey-rig using a third fluke without a hook in it. In our area it's illegal to fish with more than two hooks on a lure of this type. I use one of those screw-lock thingys and simply secure the third fluke onto my topmost swivel. It makes it look like a small school of three baitfish with the two rear-most flukes being targeted by the bass. On rare occasions I've gotten two hits at a time but for some reason that second hit always seems to be able to spit the hook before I can reel it in.
A 7", white Googan Dart soft jerkbait on a 6-7/0 weightless screw-lock will go with me every time i hit the water...been my go 2 for the last 2 years...quite a few 4-7 lb bass, which are trophies in Ohio....not sure why exactly, but the 7" outperforms the standard 5" for me...many haters of Googan, but this bait has that "IT" factor in my experience
I have been using Owner’s line of Twistlock light and heavy wire wide gap hooks on Senko and fluke style baits because the baits seem to last longer. Outside of being able to adjust how far into the bait you place the hook, do you see any pros/cons with this style of hooks?
I'll throw a soft plastic fluke from spring through fall. Honestly don't care for the zoom fluke compared to the caffeine shad, though. Caffeine shad in baby bass or watermelon red flake is my favorite
Ohh no, you already know it…you’re dead on with the gold fleck. I’ll add purple to that too. All my go to soft plastics for smallmouth have one or the other.
Matt!! Let us know what pants you wear! I burn easy as well and have had some melanoma removed so I try to cover up but long pants in the SC summer is brutal to me. What pants do you recommend that are the most breathable?
I like those boat-camo colors of your sun shirts! With a chemtrail pattern of blue with a cloud stripe you could blend into the background and no one will notice you. 😶🌫️
Im confused move the hook forward,to keeps the bait down a bit.Move it back dances closer to surface.Yet if you use a 3/0 hook which will bring the hook forward you said will bring the bait closer to the surface.A 4/0 which will be back further on the bait you said causes the bait to sink.Sounds conflicting to me?
Hey Matt.Had a question.Did I see you in one of your video,s fishing a soft jerkbait fast across the water, and it looked like a multi joint bait... What was the name.....
Pretty much Exclusively use white -pearl and smoke shad but started leaning toward the Tennessee shad color I've been get big bites on that Tennessee shad super fluke its become my go to color

You and Tim have taught myself and others so much over the years. Thank you for that.
Always love your presentations. Thank you for all the little details that you provide and no-one else does. Again thanks
Started using a fluke about 2 months ago. Freaking amazing for smallmouth. I mostly fish in creeks/rivers and their good’

The fluke is my go to all year long
terrific vid, Matt! Such a fun way to fish and very versatile. I started throwing the Mach Skooler, and love it. For a smaller preso like bfs, it’s my fav. God bless!
Great video, I also find that Neko rigging the D Shad like Tim recommended a couple years ago is a great way to catch bass!

Every time I want to learn a technique. You guys make a video, it’s awesome timing 😂
Thanks matt im a big d shad and fluke fan cant wait to try that whiplash shad. The Jackall has become a big bfs player for me already.
I love when I bother to watch the whole thing and he answers my question that was percolating in my brain the entire video.

Which one? The straight tail or vapor shad? Do you have a favorite color?
Awesome info! Thank you
My favorite colors smokin shad, pearl and baby bass!
Matt,
Can you do a video about the Lunker City Slugo?
I love donkey dancing! Super fluke junior ice chased by a baby base super fluke catches bigs! Thanks you have changed my fishing! Crazy I think the fish thinks they have competition for the baby ice. Violent hits.
Miss the intro/outro music but a banger of a video as always! Definitely going to be trying the nose hook rig while fishing in my super clear lake
Watermelon red flake is a killer in small ponds with bluegill. I prefer to use the Strike King KVD Coffee Shad, but there’s nothing wrong at all with the og zoom super fluke!
Is there anyway you can do a short clip video or something showing a full setup of the double rig that shows up and close for how to rig it?
My top 3 fluke style baits are z man streaks , bass assian fluke , Yamamoto d Shad , kinda a un know style of fluke fishing is the z man streaks with a light wire hook will float so you can fish it like a skipping bait on the surface or a twitch and set technique with it floating on the surface on I have found if fishing holes in grass or around tree tops and it turns in to great top water baits
I’ve been having good luck using the zman razor shad on a weighted ewg hook.
Speaking of Northern fisheries and bluegill as well we've found that while we electric shad is a staple zoom has the Bluegill flash with that little bit of gold I literally have one tied on right now
Matt is the sluggo and the Top Gun in the fluke category. Bassmd

I should give that whiplash shad a try, see if last longer than my favorite - caffeine shad. Wish they had a better color selection though.
Cant wait to try yamamato salt one on bottom and little fluke jr on front runner
Matt, baby bass was the only color they have plenty of stock of in my local shops. Now I bet it’s gonna be a bit harder to find 😂 thanks
Sensi worm and a fluke would be awesome?
I have been using Owner’s line of Twistlock light and heavy wire wide gap hooks on Senko and fluke style baits because the baits seem to last longer. Outside of being able to adjust how far into the bait you place the hook, do you see any pros/cons with this style of hooks?
Agree 100%. The Owner Twistlock hooks provide great fluke action and significantly better durability for Texas rigged presentations
How about using a weighted hook for the double Fluke rig?
Without having seen it the Whiplash Shad sounds similar to the Strike King Caffeine Shad
I'll throw a soft plastic fluke from spring through fall. Honestly don't care for the zoom fluke compared to the caffeine shad, though. Caffeine shad in baby bass or watermelon red flake is my favorite
Been able to try the damiki 7 inch yet? The videos look incredible
We've absolutely smashed fish with it 👍🏼 We did a review when they first came out, it's a serious fish catcher.
Watermelon or green pumpkin chartruese tail is the deal here up north in gull fisheries too
What do you think of the caffeine shad?
Ohh no, you already know it…you’re dead on with the gold fleck. I’ll add purple to that too. All my go to soft plastics for smallmouth have one or the other.
Matt,Do you ever use screwlock hooks for your soft jerkbaits ?
Thanks !!
Do you not use the little circle hook with the weight anymore
Glad your a soft jerk bait video Matt. I've always used the hard jerk baits. Thanks bud 👍🏻
How come you didn't buy the big landing net?
Matt!! Let us know what pants you wear! I burn easy as well and have had some melanoma removed so I try to cover up but long pants in the SC summer is brutal to me. What pants do you recommend that are the most breathable?
I wear Aftco pants and they're amazing! They have a handful of very light/breathable options that get me through the Summer heat 👍🏼
@@tacticalbassin thanks!!

Are the fluke techniques good year round? Headed to Texas in October. Lake Athens.
You'll be good in TX in Oct, water still warm and fish active.
It kills in the fall
Green pumpkin, Black, and Bubblegum Pink Flukes crush in La/Tx
Matt, whats you thoughts on the Banjo Minnow? Yes its a serious question. They catch fish. Guys fish them but many are ashamed to admit it...
No Caffeine shad??????
Did I miss belly weighted hooks for flukes
do you think I could get away with throwing a fluke on a 6’10 medium slx?
Yes. Use braid.
@@d3adp94I need to watch whole vid, at the end I he says it’s fine to fish on a medium 😂
Hey Matt.Had a question.Did I see you in one of your video,s fishing a soft jerkbait fast across the water, and it looked like a multi joint bait... What was the name.....
This video would do great collab with flukemaster
My theory on gold with smallmouth is they think it's either a perch or baby walleye, both are competition and also good eating, lol.
Would you ever nose hook a whiplash?
Absolutely!
I know I’m not alone when I hear anything Jackall soft plastic related my first reaction is “Out of Stock” literally everywhere 😂
I like to nose hook a fluke in summer and skip under docks. Watts Bar bass can’t handle them. 😂
Oh Damn Matt "Da 🐇 " Allen bout to take us down to his hole "no diddy" 😂 rabbit hole I mean leggo💪🏿🎣man I love me a donkey rig for my fluke fishing
Good info but that’s not a curado mgl 150 on that Zodias rod lol
I’m surprised the expride 6’10 medium wasn’t included
Scrounger video please
Btw the Brit’s are using fluke style baits for their sea bass.
Juggle minnow is worth a try as a bfs fluke.
yep that’s a good one, but you have to try the Mach Skooler. without a doubt my new fav for the smaller 4” size. 👍
@@mikegardiner3934 I’ll have to try it out! Thanks for the tip.
How about a worm and a fluke or a fluke and a craw?
Banjo minnows and nose hooks go back 40+ years.
donkey rig nose hooked????
If a pike bites that nose hooked version, it will break you off every single time.
It's about time to bust out that donkey rig
I always have a fluke on deck. They are just too universal.

Baby bass with pearl or silver is a killer.
