Hey BLat, I'm a creek angler. Nothing like catching some "Swamp Donkeys" while hanging off a downed tree. I'm trying to find a mud puppy/water dog soft plastic. Something thicker than any of the lizards offered. Like a goby lizard or a smaller version of the river2sea Nest Raider. Wondering if you knew of any? Thanks for your knowledge and videos.

Another variation that IMO has the best action is a nail weighted zman jerk shadz. I like using a 4/0 or 5/0 worm hook like he shows, instead of the keel weighted hook. However, instead of using a large swivel, I use a smaller ball bearing swivel and then insert a tungsten nail weight to get the bait down. If you get the right line, hook, weight, you can make the bait suspend!

@6:55-7:21 he nonchalantly ties palomar knots to both sides of the swivel - which is something I didn't think could be done due to the need to loop over the swivel for the second knot, but you can see him just thread the standing end through the loop instead. I tried it and it works. Awesome gem hidden in plain sight.

Weightless white or chartreuse with a worm hook just through the mouth/head is works great for pike in shallow waters. Can still cast it far and i just pull reel pull retrieve.

I've become a huge fan of zman soft jerbaits on my Carolina rigs because it likes to float so my weight gets to the bottom but the bait falls so slow on its long leader. I know way back in the day we use to think or they use to say the bait is floating behind the weight but with these types of plastics it almost does and I get more bites then using my old stand by the super flukes.

Just found a pile of sluggos in a bag of old plastic tackle in my shop a couple days ago. They're in perfect shape, I'll probably put em back in rotation. It's funny why we set things away, that really catch fish, for the new latest and greatest plastics...lol.
From one Carolina boy to another... Love your content Lat, and your laid back, non elitist attitude.
Just curious, why not a double fluke setup? And if you throw the double when and why would you throw either? I like the double with a super line hook on the back one hooked up front, and the other on a regular smaller wire hook, hooked back further so fall rate is slower. That way it resembles a small school and you have a bait up high and lower in the column. Your right, on a medium baitcaster with 12-15# fluoro, you can cast these a country mile!

  • @chuckkaleel9105

Screw a hitch hiker into the nose until it is completely inside, use a wacky rig hook thru the bait a hitch hiker in the nose and skip it with a spinning rod under cover. Work it fast about a foot or 2 or to the edge of the cover then kill it. Bass try to eat everything head first so the weedless nose hook gets them.

People usually underestimate the weight of the soft plastic itself. Look at a big juicy senko.. compare that to casting a 4" zoom finesse worm on the same hook. Salty plastics are the heaviest, elaztech are the lightest. But it still all adds up

Never thought of the swivel thing. I'd always just pinched a small splitshot 12-18" down the line but the swivel makes sense. Never got comfortable throwing it on a heavy action rod though. Prefer MH fast, but potato-potahto I guess lol
