Mind-Blowing Modern Tiny Tree House Built with Reclaimed Materials - FULL TOUR

  • This epic 2-storey log tree house is built around 9 hemlock posts and salvaged and reclaimed materials that Mike, the builder, saved for years before starting this 3-year project. The upstairs is a complete living area with two sleeping spaces, a kitchen, living and dining room, and a small bathroom. Downstairs is an outdoor lounge area and a full indoor bathroom. It's a really unique space and we're really excited to give you a full tour!
You can find The Wakefield Treehouse on Airbnb and Instagram here:
    www.airbnb.ca/...
    / thewakefieldtreehouse
    wakefieldconstr...
The foundation of the treehouse is 9 hemlock posts that are on concrete footings anchored to the bedrock and the treehouse has 420 square feet of heated living space. The home is on the grid for electricity, and it has it's own well and septic system.
It was really exciting and inspiring for us to meet Mike and his partner Gen, and to hear the story of how the tiny tree house cabin idea came to life after visiting tiny houses and treehouses on their travels, and how they made it a reality by building with scrap and leftover materials that Mike had collected from job sites for years.
We hope you enjoyed touring it as much as we did!
    Thanks for watching!

@@tarikay93 Thanks, Captain Obvious. But what Mark Twain was saying in context to the tree house was doing something different, getting out of one's comfort zone, essentially. And for the guy to save a bunch of reclaimed wood and turn it into SUCH a masterpiece is something very few will ever do in their lives. Best of all, the guy (and presumably his wife/GF, friends and family) will now get to enjoy living in it for a long time...all at a minimal cost.

That's honestly a bit of a jaded point of view. Doing this requires sacrifice, especially if something else you love conflicts with this type of lifestyle. People may not be ready or willing to make those sacrifices, but it doesn't mean they wouldn't love to live like this guy. It's also possible that they didn't have the means to accomplish what you or he did.

Most people don't have the money to acquire the materials/equipment, land, or don't have access to the materials/equipment, or land. Most people also don't have the knowledge to build a structure like this. It's easy to say "anyone can do this because I did it. And it was inexpensive", when you have/have access to the funds, equipment, materials, land and know-how.

Yes, although I'm not that familiar with wood construction, I feel like it misses some supports... At least to be more protected in case of a catastrophe

building things with no codes, in certain zips can even be paper Crete, and even rammed earth. Hay bales construction is also, in a no building codes environment.

Everyone in the comment section: 'Oh m goood, so inspirational, he followed his dreams, I also want to live like that!!!'
Meanwhile no one actually 'lives' in that house and it's just a glorified AirBnB at $195 a night ...

I'm not going to fault that man for making his passion project pay for itself and in a super smart financial way. He seems like a very savvy individual, good on him.
A passion project like that is also most suitable as a family summer cabin or weekend getaway. Which is still fully doable while running it as an Airbnb, you just block off the times you don't want it available.
In order to live there full-time or year round I imagine you need a Wi-Fi connection, workspace and a few other things like that. No mention of Wi-Fi in his discussion, or solar panels or generator backups. It's a cabin/getaway that doesn't need absolute reliability

I'm extremely surprised that the radiant heat is enough with such little insulation. I'd like to see the radiant set up and water system design.
Really cool house. Looks really well done.
