    When skating outside it's a good idea to bring a broom with you, if you can. You'll be able to sweep up twigs, leaves, stones and mulch all of which are tripping hazards.
    Also it's a good idea to walk any trail first so you know what's ahead and how steep the declines are. If it looks too scary then don't do it, stop before going down a decline that's too steep.
    your safety is always the most important!

    If you plan on doing more trail skating, invest in some bigger, softer wheels if you haven't already. My first skates 57mm/78a wheels. When I finally upgraded my skates they came with 65mm/78A wheels. I didn't realize how much I was struggling unnecessarily when trying to skate trails. Even with those cracks in the concrete sidewalk, the smaller wheels always stumbled over those but the larger wheels would just glide. They won't roll over acorns and large twigs but they handle cracks and debris pretty well. Also, I had to relearn how to skate backwards in them because I kept tripping over the size of the wheel. I had to get use to lifting my heel higher. I have the Moxi gummies but I hear that the atom pulse are the best and they have the ones that light up lol. Also, you high key owned that hill lol. I most definitely have tripped and rolled down hills more than once😂😂.

      Oooo thank you! I’m going to look into some better wheels for when I skate trails. It was so fun (even with the stumbling/falling haha) so I think I’ll do it a lot more! I never even thought about the learning curve for skating backwards etc…thank you! That man was so concerned when I fell 😂😂😂 that’s the worst. And whew rolling down a hill though sounds terrible! Omg 😅

      100% agree. I didn’t realize how good I had it with my moxi gummies till I was tripping over the sidewalk crack outside my front door with my new 58mm 85A wheels 🥴 lord only knows what I was thinking lol

    When I started skating outside, my friend told me to start stopping (slowing down) at the top of the hill - that way adjusting your going downhill - you remain in control. I still do that today. 🤙

    I always slow way down even stop when coming up to a dog and let the owner get a handle of the dog.. They like to chase things that roll or move fast. I sometimes will even get off the trail onto the grass if dog is coming towards me. Always say on your left or right so the person knows your about to pass and can hold onto their dog if they are in front and make sure the owner has the dog secure. ❤

    Wow I definitely won't be trying to skate with a selfie stick until maybe a year in. Some of your scenes looked like rollercoaster footage and I just kept imagining myself doing that, falling, face-planting and smashing my camera to bits. (Yes, a bit dramatic but my mind goes to those places.) The end though...😂

    • @StruggleSkates
      @StruggleSkates  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea using the selfie stick on unfamiliar terrain was a terrible idea 😂 and it 100% felt like a roller coaster going down those hills haha. First, you did great. The fact you were brave enough to roller skate on trails, which is rarely seen on YT. I’ve seen a lot of inline skaters on trails, but not so much quad skaters.
    Have you tried reds bearings? I got those for my budget rollerblades and it makes the wheels spin so much faster.
    I also did the same thing you did on my 1st trail. I didn’t assess the place before I started skating.
    One of the trails I did… I didn’t know it was a steep downhill that ends into a T shape. My heart sank when I saw it was coming to an end and I need to make a sharp turn to survive. I’m going down at a fast speed on 100mm wheels and didn’t learn how to make sharp turns yet.
    Luckily, my body was low to the ground when I fell. That was one of the scariest moments of my rollerblading adventure. I got a lot of those scary moments. As I get used to downhills, I learned to slow down by titling wheels.
    Very good video. ❤

    • @StruggleSkates
      @StruggleSkates  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! And wow! I’m so glad you’re okay after that - it sounds so scary! I think I’ll either walk or run trails before I skate next time. I’ve heard inline skates are better for trails but I’ll have to invest in different wheels/bearings to make it a smoother ride. I saw the reds but those aren’t the ones I bought 😩 although it wouldn’t hurt to try those too! Do you switch your wheels/bearings out much?

    • @CatzzSkatesFamily
      @CatzzSkatesFamily 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@StruggleSkatesI’ve only swapped it out once on my 80mm wheels. This was after 2-3 months of skating. Besides improving my strides, I wanted to see for myself if changing the bearings makes a difference. It cost $40 total for bearings on 8 wheels. There are so many brands out there and after researching on bearings for weeks. I’ve narrowed it down to reds bearings for high quality and many outstanding reviews from customers.
      Just as a background, I work as a data analyst so I’d analyzed many factors before my final decision. You will not be disappointed with Reds.

      also about outside wheels, I've got juice smoothies 65mm 78A and those make a huge difference, you can roll over twigs without tripping, the wheels are wider so it takes less energy to push and like the name, the wheels are super smooth

    Any tips on how to face fear of going downhill? 😅

    • @StruggleSkates
      @StruggleSkates  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooooo that’s a tricky one! But I guess I would say to watch tons of videos and then find a hill that isn’t too steep first to get a feel for it. Get comfortable will slowing your speed or stopping quickly in various ways. Learning the proper way to fall helps too so that you minimize the chance of injury. And then, just go for it! It’s really a mental game once you have everything else. I hope that helps! 😬

    • @StruggleSkates
      @StruggleSkates  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @shrimpy1020 And on another note, I tend to see falling as a learning opportunity so that helps me muster the strength. Every time I fall I learn what not to do or something I can improve. But yes. Start with a baby hill and just keep going from there! You got this 🤗
