I find Lucifer Morningstar from Lucifer to be an interesting bi character. We have seen him in casual sexual (or implied sexual) relationships with men and women alike, though men much more rarely, and while he has not used the label "bisexual" (or a similar label like "pansexual"), he has said that "some of [his] lovers are men", and he's very open about that. And he isn't even the only bi character on the show. His assistant, Maze, also has (or at least implies) casual sexual relationships with men and women. Neither of them is really the relationship type, and of course he's the devil and she's a demon, but it's a very unabashed, open attitude toward sex regardless of gender. I think it's less about having a bisexual identity and more about not having human hang-ups about sex and gender.
I can't believe you didn't mention Callie Torres from Grey's Anatomy! Best Bi character ever!! She is not only a badass woman, she also later on mostly dates women (bc I hate when bi characters are "bi" but only ever seen in het relationships on tv bc for the tv producers they wanna cash in that lgbt audience but showing a gay couple would be "too gay" then), AND says the word "bisexual" out loud on the show talking about her identifying as that. They even adress her figuring out her identity and the biphobia she faces from within the lgbt community.
Petra from Jane the Virgin is a bi character I think. She was with men for the first few seasons but starts dating a woman in the last one. She is a not good but not bad type of character. Also, Lucifer on the TV show Lucifer is a Bi character that I like but I’m pretty sure he is bad representation since he is very promiscuous.
You should talk about bi erasure in TV and film. I’ve recently been rewatching Criminal Minds and doing some research on the characters, and one of the main characters, Reid, was originally intended to be bi by the show’s writers, but the director and producers basically said no and erased his relations with men from any further scripts.
I am half way through a show called This Is Us and the first season features an older black man who has been in relationships with men and woman. He doesn't label himself as bi and says something along the lines of "he views sexuality to be fluid" but i still think its great representation
I think the circumstances under which Miles cheats on Tristan are really important to take into consideration- and then after the fact they talk about it in a really mature way (at least, compared to a lot of their previous communication). Miles is also by no stretch the first bi character on Degrassi, but he's the first to SAY he's bisexual, and that makes him super important.
Deadass was just about to comment about Rosa.... Also where the heckin heck did you get that shirt/jacket????? Edit: PS. They just canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine... end me. Edit: NBC PICKED IT UP. YESSSS!!!
this is the content i subscribed for (also this is such a great video and i rlly love that you acknowledge that many of these characters have negative implications/traits associated w bisexuality)
Sweet vid, as always :3 I noticed you didn't mention any characters from animated tv shows. There are some too, which is, imo, super important, especially if these shows are targeted towards younger audiences. The Legend of Korra, Adventure Time, Sailormoon, Ouran High School Host Club are a few of them, and they're great shows!
Miles only cheated on Tristan once. And only because Tristan was in a coma and he was pretty much convinced that Tristan was gonna die. And when Tristan wakes up, he confesses to it and they stay together and move past it.
Lister Bird and Bliss Lai from the novel I Was Born For This (Alice Oseman) are two really good examples of bi rep - Lister is presented as kind of a stereotypical bi playboy but as the novel goes on that stereotype is deconstructed and he talks about how damaging it is. Bliss is just chill about it, it's not part of her story arc but it's amazing to see casual but explicit rep (this is the same for Frances in her novel Radio Silence)
Really liked the video, good conversation starters in there! Hope that writers do talk, support, and represent healthily way more in the future. I also really wanted to mention that I love the background 💗
omg i love magnus bane he is just AMAZING and i will ship malec until i die...thats what i wanted to say...but also this was a great video and i found some new possible favourite shows ily
Another bi character from Torchwood is Toshiko Sato! She has two relationships with men and one relationship with a woman throughout the show, and, like Ianto, was confirmed to be bisexual by the show writers even though it isn't said in the show
I both like Robert from Emmerdale (although he was evil for a long while) and Miles from Degrassi very much. I don't think they are a bad representation of bi people. Yes, Robert was closeted at the beginning (unlike his affair Aaron!). Yes, he was constantly cheating on his wife. BUT he has changed. And he held a beautiful little "speech" about him being bi and coming to terms with it. Miles has not been the best person either, but he loves his bf very much and that shows. Also in series there has to be some drama, so people cheat on each other. As long as the cheating is not portrayed as something inherently bisexual and all kinds of people do it I don't have a problem with it. Wouldn't it be boring if all (bi) characters were suddenly angels who only had committed relationships, never slept around and never cheated?
I don't wanna start any big Discourse here, but I was wondering what you thought about JK Rowling's apparent transphobia and blatant homophobia? I've seen many LGBT+ people leave the HP fandom because of her bigotry, and I think it's interesting that you're still here (in the fandom) and loving the characters. It would be interesting to see a video about what your opinions are on separating the art from the artist, and whether good representation can still come from artists who themselves hold bigoted views.
I loved these thank you for this video! I'm just going to add that All For One (a webseries on TH-cam channel Kinda TV) has great representation and deals with relationships really really well and is definitely well worth a watch
i love this so much this really raised my spirits thank u thank u thank u!!!!! you featured pretty much all my favourite bi characters :D (although I wish there were some I didn't know about so I could find some new shows CRI I NEED MORE BI)
My fave bisexual character is definitely Blake Moran from Madam Secretary. They never acknowledge his sexuality until he has the best, most relatable coming out scene I've ever seen
loved this video! another outwardly bi character is thirteen from house md. although there was a period she went through that could potentially fall into the "promiscious bi" archetype, [SPOILERS AHEAD] i honestly believe that was due to her finding out she has Huntington's disease, as she also did a lot of drugs and got drunk A LOT. from what i can remember, her being bi was kinda nonchalant and she's shown with both male and female partners, and she ends up moving to thailand with her girlfriend at the end of the show :)
"Next are some characters that are speculated to be bisexual" We talkin' 'bout Dean Winchester? "Some of my favorites are Dean Winchester fr-" HELLZ YEAH
I love this video and you’ve given me a ton more shows to watch. But one of my favorite confirmed bisexuals that you didn’t mention (which I don’t blame you cuz he’s from a musical) would have to be Rich Goranski from Be More Chill. It doesn’t really pertain to the storyline in any way but at the end he has a little ‘oh’ moment and says he’s bi, but ya know I enjoyed it anyway and I definitely will be subbing. 👍🏻
I cannot get over how amazing the haircut looks, I am obsessed Out of these, I've seen: Glee, Orphan Black, Shadowhunters (Magnus is such a bae), Torchwood (gawd I love Ianto), Sherlock, HSM (OH HELL YES), (obvi) Harry Potter I would like to mention Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's canon that Willow is "gay now". Willow's first relationship on the show is with Oz (who is a hella cute guy in a band) and they are very much in love and happy. After their relationship ends on bad terms (ouch), Willow takes some time to recover and then meets Tara. Tara (who is a girl in her Wicca group in uni) is very much obviously into Willow, but Willow is still hesitant. Only when Willow is faced with Oz's return does she openly acknowledge her connection with Tara. They start openly dating and Willow continuously feeds into the narrative of "I'm gay now". While I appreciate that Joss Whedon wanted to bring some sexual diversity into the show and normalise it as much as possible, it does bother me that this character who has very much been romantically AND physically attracted to two genders, is now written off as gay, even though Willow is clearly bisexual. She does express a clear preference for women, but hey, bi is complex (insert shrug emoji)
I really liked that video, it would be cool if you could do videos about gay, lesbian and trans characters too 😊 My favourite bi characters are Zero, Ianto and Rosa! Also I believe your speculated bi‘s are definitely bi :D ( don’t know about troy bolton tho 😂)
my fav bi character is actually thirteenth from house m.d. it's said multiple times in the show and throughout the seasons she has some romantic relationships with both men and women. bc of her I actually first heard the term bisexual (I think I was 13 y.o. at the time)
You forgot Clarke Griffin from The 100! She is the lead in the show and it’s amazing to see the lead in a show be bi. The way her bisexuality is brought to the scene is a girl just kisses her and even though it wasn’t the right time to date (cause her ex boyfriend just died) she acts like this kiss is a kiss from anyone and AHHH i just love her and I am praying for Bellarke because they are amazing together and a lot of people think she’s gay, when she is in fact bi.
Magnus is my fav and was THE CHARACTER that helped me with my questioning. I read the Mortal Instruments series and am watching Shadowhunters. Magnus is just amazing. I relate to his very extra personality and how he treats his relationships.
feel like i should speak out for ma girl Sara Lance, she is featured in DC's Legends of Tomorrow where she is portrayed more as a hero and has relationships with more "heroic" women. Additionally I don't think Nyssa is an all bad character, nor Oliver or other characters being typically heroic. Like the video though!
That is true, the label give you power and I think the problem whit the stereotype of a bi person is because is a taboo in certain way because if you don’t talk about it doesn’t exist or is invisible, is great to see bi characters in TV and feel identified with them. 🏳️🌈
Chad from HSM is so bi! The actors made it canon by making him and Ryan switch clothes. Also the creators made them sing I Don't Dance, and that whole thing was about them eyefucking each other

Hey Jake! I can see you doing this as a job - reviewing movies and TV for the LGBTQ+ community! You could even include other media too like commercials, books, music, and maybe even making sure that businesses like restaurants etc. are LGBTQ+ friendly, i.e. dropping the "ma'am/sir." I like how McDonald's (for example) usually doesn't say "ma'am/sir" anymore and also even has stalls now where you can't see people's feet. You could be a consultant for businesses that want to expand their LGBTQ+ friendliness or sit on a board that does this. What would be in it for the businesses? Simple - it would help them to have more business if they are more inclusive. I think you would be perfect for anything like any of the above! Like your hair!
Regarding Emmerdale, I think Robert Sugden cheated because that’s the type of person he is, irrespective of his sexuality. Yes, it’s awful that the producers decided to go down a cheating storyline, which does feed into bi stereotypes that bisexual people are promiscuous , however it’s a soap. And all couples on soaps will most likely have cheating storylines so in a way, they are being treated no different to heterosexual couples. I think Robert has had some brilliant scenes regarding his bisexuality from 2016 during their SSW. Also, emmerdale have other bisexual characters like Vanessa Woodfield and Charity Dingle who are in a relationship atm and you should definitely check their storyline out!
Robert Sugden isn't a "bad bi" because he cheats. He's a legacy character with a long history and was established as someone who cheats very early on, long before it was revealed he was bisexual. Changing a major aspect of his character just because he came out as bi would have been way worse. The larger problem is that he's still Emmerdale's only self-identifying bisexual and so has to carry all the rep on his own. And that before the last cheating storyline they had his husband be paranoid that he would cheat BECAUSE he was bisexual - rather than be paranoid because of Robert's history.
God! Like jk Rowling being canceled aside, how amazing would it have been for Harry Ron and Hermione to have been written as a bisexual thruple? Amazing!
i used to be in the emmerdale fandom, but i haven't watched the show in ages now, mostly because i can't stand robert lmao. robert is now the only openly bi character on emmerdale, so people who watch emmerdale and who know nothing about bisexuality will look at robert and think that bisexuality = cheating, and i absolutely hate that. i think they could have made for example charity or vanessa openly bi as well so that the viewers could have more characters to look at, if that make sense. he is in fact a very bad bi and i'm happy you mentioned him!!
This is such a good video... I freaking love it! I´m soooo glad you included John Watson in the list :) I literally screamed when I heard his name... But I also love Magnus and Delfine as an amazing characters representing bisexuality! I hope that in a media will charaters as these appear more and more... And that´s all this bisexual fangirl wanted to say, bye xD
I. Love. This. It’s such an important video! I love Magnus because of the way he combats bi stereotypes & is in a loving relationship with a man - I love Malec more than life itself (although if they said the word bi at some point That Would Be Great!!) I also love Ianto, despite my dislike of the way the show combats sexuality as a whole. Thank you for making this video - these kind of discussions are so interesting & important!!
Elliot and Q from The Magicians! But mostly Eliot because he's my broken sad boy that really needs a hug. Q is never really acknowledged until he's in a three way, but then they move on. Also Lucifer from... Lucifer. Though it's all hints and we never see anything, and no, I'm not counting the fake kiss with Pierce.
You forgot Clarke from the 100, she is my favourite. I regards to the labelling, I don't think it is that important for characters to label themselves, why are the labels so necessary?
So fun fact i came out to a friend online that i was bi before realizing i was trans i had no idea u can be both i tam trans but im still fairly certain Im bi
Fucking love this video, I'm so tired of having to argue why Dean is bi, like everyone always says, you just want everyone to be gay, like mate, I'm not even saying he's gay (he is for Cas, but that's a whole different rant) I just want some of that 10/10 representation, ya know
He ends up dating Captain Jack Harkness, who is...very...pansexual... Fun fact: idk it off of the top of my head, but a sexuality was actually made for him! (That time he hit on a robot)
I'm watching Doctor Who, I'm on season 7 I think, and I can't wait to watch Torchwood after I finish the main series. Jack Harkness is one of my favorite characters in the show and I can't wait to see more of His Immortal Pansexualness.
((Disclosure: I did get some info on certain characters off third party sources cuz I don't watch all the shows/haven't seen them in a while))
I think that you missed one from The 100 named Clarke Griffin.
Peter Pedro Donaldson
I find Lucifer Morningstar from Lucifer to be an interesting bi character. Also we can't forget the power bi couple Korra and Asami from Legend of Korra!!
Misty yee! Korrasami Korrasami Korrasami Korrasami Korrasami
I was just about to mention them
I can't believe you didn't mention Callie Torres from Grey's Anatomy! Best Bi character ever!! Chuck from Supernatural is bi/pan as well and I love that.
I started crying when you talked about Ianto... HUN. Also Magnus... YES.

Gosh Ianto.... It's been so long I really need to rewatch Torchwood cause I love PAIN
Really liked the video, good conversation starters in there! Hope that writers do talk, support, and represent healthily way more in the future. I also really wanted to mention that I love the background 💗

Another bi character from Torchwood is Toshiko Sato! She has two relationships with men and one relationship with a woman throughout the show, and, like Ianto, was confirmed to be bisexual by the show writers even though it isn't said in the show

i love this so much this really raised my spirits thank u thank u thank u!!!!! you featured pretty much all my favourite bi characters :D (although I wish there were some I didn't know about so I could find some new shows CRI I NEED MORE BI)
I absolutely loved this video! Thankyou for putting this out💖🤗
It bugs me that all the characters people assume are bi are male, it's like bi women don't exist and it makes me v v sad
ElyshaHayley You should read Let’s Talk About Love. It’s about a biromantic asexual woman of color.
In fandom's defence, mostly fleshed out characters in popular franchises are men.
You should really check the glaad reports on rep cause literally all bi characters on tv are women
I feel like it is the opposite, nearly every bi character I see is female.
I’ve been loving your recent videos ❤️ they’re all very well thought out and you’re personality is shining 😊
My fave bisexual character is definitely Blake Moran from Madam Secretary. They never acknowledge his sexuality until he has the best, most relatable coming out scene I've ever seen
omg omg omg omg I have never seen anyone reference Nothing Much To Do anywhere ever. I love it, I love Pedro, I love you.
loved this video!
another outwardly bi character is thirteen from house md. although there was a period she went through that could potentially fall into the "promiscious bi" archetype, [SPOILERS AHEAD] i honestly believe that was due to her finding out she has Huntington's disease, as she also did a lot of drugs and got drunk A LOT. from what i can remember, her being bi was kinda nonchalant and she's shown with both male and female partners, and she ends up moving to thailand with her girlfriend at the end of the show :)
Isaac Salazar yes! For some reason everybody seems to forget about her when talking about bi characters.
"Next are some characters that are speculated to be bisexual"
We talkin' 'bout Dean Winchester?
"Some of my favorites are Dean Winchester fr-"
HELLZ YEAH
I couldn’t watch it all because of *spoilers* but everything I did watch was spot on and I love your vids so much Jake they soothe my soul xxxx
Omg Jake both my eyes and heart just exploded you are by far one of the cutest gorgeous guy on social media
I screamed when you said magnus and ianto oml
Even Bech Næsheim from SKAM was pansexual and had such a good character development and brilliant storyline on mental health too
I cannot get over how amazing the haircut looks, I am obsessed
Out of these, I've seen: Glee, Orphan Black, Shadowhunters (Magnus is such a bae), Torchwood (gawd I love Ianto), Sherlock, HSM (OH HELL YES), (obvi) Harry Potter
I would like to mention Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's canon that Willow is "gay now". Willow's first relationship on the show is with Oz (who is a hella cute guy in a band) and they are very much in love and happy. I WAS WAITING FOR MAGNUS! I LOVE HIM OMG
PEDRO MY BABE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
I really liked that video, it would be cool if you could do videos about gay, lesbian and trans characters too 😊 My favourite bi characters are Zero, Ianto and Rosa! Also I believe your speculated bi‘s are definitely bi :D ( don’t know about troy bolton tho 😂)
my fav bi character is actually thirteenth from house m.d. it's said multiple times in the show and throughout the seasons she has some romantic relationships with both men and women. bc of her I actually first heard the term bisexual (I think I was 13 y.o. at the time)
The show "you me her" on Netflix features a polyamorous throuple in which two people are bi (and actually use the word bi) !
just love you because you take a degassi character and one of the best of 19 seasons
Chasing life and faking it are my favourite sexuality shows
You forgot Clarke Griffin from The 100!
Ah i love this video
MORE BI CONTENT!
Could you write a list with the names of the show you mentioned please? I can't understand or recall all of them.
That is true, the label give you power and I think the problem whit the stereotype of a bi person is because is a taboo in certain way because if you don’t talk about it doesn’t exist or is invisible, is great to see bi characters in TV and feel identified with them. 🏳️🌈
I ended up watching NMTD and LLL because of this, I loved them!
Chad from HSM is so bi! The actors made it canon by making him and Ryan switch clothes. Also the creators made them sing I Don't Dance, and that whole thing was about them eyefucking each other
Also: William in "This is Us", I absolutely loved how he was portrayed *-*
Audrey Jensen from Scream the TV Show is my personal fave 😍
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but Clarke Griffin from The 100 is also an example of Bi representation
y'all PLEASE listen to the penumbra podcast, it's like a noir detective radio show set in the future on mars and the main character is a bisexual nonbinary man who doesn't really sleep around (i believe it happened like. once? and it was only to show he was emotionally compromised by his previous relationship), and he kisses both men and women in the different episodes. his love interest is a man and their relationship is incredibly engaging and fun to listen to. please just,,, listen to the penumbra

Fuck yes, I AM HERE FOR THIS THANK YOU
so........the running theme here is that bisexuals get a pretty bad rap lol pLEASE MEDIA GIVE US A BREAK
Hey babe! Big fan ♡
My fave bi character is Clarke from the 100. She is my baby and she should be protected at all costs
A beautiful video by a beautiful person
(I wasn't sure if I could use man oop)
I'm happy you did this video
Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place was confirmed bisexual by her actress.
The writer of Sense8 confirmed that all eight main characters of the show ate pansexual 😊
Yes Jake!!!!!!!!!!!! Nailed this
yes to degrassi TNG! but my favorite bi degrassi character is PAAAIGE
Ahhhh I love Magnus and I agree he is good bi rep and I was waiting for Clarke from the 100 to be mentioned as she is also good bi rep
God! Like jk Rowling being canceled aside, how amazing would it have been for Harry Ron and Hermione to have been written as a bisexual thruple? Amazing!
There's this awesome podcast called The Bright Sessions with a great bi character! The show also has someone who identifies as asexual in it.
ALSO DAYM THIS WAS A GOOD VIDEO WITH SOME GOOD DISCOURSE
i used to be in the emmerdale fandom, but i haven't watched the show in ages now, mostly because i can't stand robert lmao. robert is now the only openly bi character on emmerdale, so people who watch emmerdale and who know nothing about bisexuality will look at robert and think that bisexuality = cheating, and i absolutely hate that. i think they could have made for example charity or vanessa openly bi as well so that the viewers could have more characters to look at, if that make sense. he is in fact a very bad bi and i'm happy you mentioned him!!
aaaAAAA yes boi I love myself some Torchwood bisexuality, Ianto is one of my absolute favourite characters
I love Magnus because of the way he combats bi stereotypes & is in a loving relationship with a man - I love Malec more than life itself (although if they said the word bi at some point That Would Be Great!!)
I also love Ianto, despite my dislike of the way the show combats sexuality as a whole.
Thank you for making this video - these kind of discussions are so interesting & important!!
Love this video idea. These are some of favs as well. :)
thank you for this
Elliot and Q from The Magicians! But mostly Eliot because he's my broken sad boy that really needs a hug. Q is never really acknowledged until he's in a three way, but then they move on. Also Lucifer from... Lucifer. Though it's all hints and we never see anything, and no, I'm not counting the fake kiss with Pierce.
rosa diaz!
Off topic but you're such a fashion icon, plz make outfit videos
Omg! I thought I was the only one who watches Emmerdale for Robert Sugden 😂
Philippe d´Orleans and Chevalier de Lorraine from the tv-series Versailles could also be added to your list.
Dean Winchester is the best bisexual character.
Amazing video! 100% agree about what you said about the importance of representation.
This video is a whole lot of YAAAAAAAS
Nice ,very good
Cheryl and Toni from Riverdale!
I haven't heared /picked up on Todd from Dirk Gently possibly being bi, now I need to find out more about this :0
You forgot Clarke from the 100, she is my favourite. I regards to the labelling, I don't think it is that important for characters to label themselves, why are the labels so necessary?
Rachelka45 I think it depends, I mean for the media to move foward and include other lgbtq+ characters is important
I came here only to check if you'll talk about my lovely Pedro
This is why I'd rather have no representation, than bad representation.
I'm watching Doctor Who, I'm on season 7 I think, and I can't wait to watch Torchwood after I finish the main series. Jack Harkness is one of my favorite characters in the show and I can't wait to see more of His Immortal Pansexualness.
Sara ramirez as Callie Torres, she identified as bi... But later in the show she identified as lesbian... I guess
Sarina HEP nah she is still bisexual
Emmerdale now has a female bisexual character and a pansexual character :D (I assume she's pan, she didn't a term)
