    Had my Lowthers 55 years now. Same cabinets but new drivers. Lowthers always for me.

      Wow, 55 years with Lowthers! That's some serious dedication and listening bliss, I bet. New drivers in the same cabinets - that's a clever way to keep the magic alive! Lowthers always have a special place in many hearts (including mine, I confess). What kind of music do they sing most beautifully for you?

    How does Lii fast 8 compare to the Voxativ 1.6? Have you compared?

    Is this fabric surround of the fast8 cone really airtight? Looks thin (although I understand it is more durable than the rotting foam of the Lowthers).

    • @odear
      @odear  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you can say so, also the lowther's cone is somehow easily misaligned, but the adorable sound reigns, cheers

      @@odear I believe it's bad material and workmanship. After reconing my PM2Cs myself, carefully, with new foam surrounds and spiders, they stay fully aligned at 8 Hz or less, for 8 years and without rotating them.

    Are the mounting holes of Fast-8 same as Lowther ? Do you think I can fit the Fast-8 into the Fidelio cabinet ?

    • @odear
      @odear  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hi, please note only 2 diagonal holes are the same as Lowther, I think fast-8 can be mounted fitly into the Fidelio cabinet by adding a thin piece of wood to fill the small gap, but not sure if its bass is in phase or not, trial and error, cheers.

    Pm4A is not made for playing directly. It is for indirect constructions. For direkt Play it should be PM6A......with too big magnet hights get too much. Clarity and precision is Lowther much better i think.

    • @odear
      @odear  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your kind comment, I can understand the concerns about using the pm4a for horn/direct play as it doesn't sound right because of the low qts, it needs more room to breathe... I took this driver out from tp1 as it suffers from magnetic cone issue, trial and error, cheers😊

    What kind of test is the raw sound test test? What is the difference between raw sound test and horn sound test ?
    I think 1:16 and 3:57 have similar tones, but 3:57 and 6:09 have a slight difference.

    • @odear
      @odear  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the insightful breakdown! It's clear you have a sharp ear for audio differences. To clarify, it seems you're highlighting the direct comparison between the Lowther PM4A and the Lii Fast-8 when both are equipped with Oris horns (3:57 vs. 6:09). The isolated test of the Fast-8 without a horn (1:16) serves as a baseline but isn't a direct comparison. Your observations about the tonal similarities and differences are spot on!

    I have a 160 liter aperiodic transmission line cabinet for eight inch drivers. I use a Aurel Bryan driver. I'm curious about the new lii audio alnico 8" driver. It has a massive alnoco magnet. Have you ever tried a transmission line cabinet?

    • @odear
      @odear  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's wonderful to hear about your transmission line loudspeakers, I have positive experiences with branded like JMR and PMC. With the ample space provided by your 160-liter cabinet, you have an exciting opportunity to experiment and explore the capabilities of various 8" drivers. While the lii audio driver is definitely worth considering, I also highly encourage you to explore options like Coral and vintage Philips drivers, may be you have tried them already. They can offer unique sonic characteristics and contribute to a diverse audio experience. By trying out different drivers, you'll have the chance to discover new dimensions of sound reproduction. Regarding your Aurel Bryan driver, how would you describe its low-frequency performance?

    • @Phloored
      @Phloored 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@odear hi, thanks for the tips on the additional drivers, it will be interesting to hear some of these. Regarding the aurel bryan, it extends down to 30htz with clarity and completely in phase. Long term I'm contemplating using a active crossover and limiting the aurel bryan to 50htz-12mhtz and having a separate amp for the supertweeters go from 12mhtz-30mhtz and a third class d amplifier on a 4 mono asymetrically placed 8" sealed subs that cover from 25htz-50htz.

    absolute Lowther its more dynamic fresh and vivid no compare here but the price Lii is a good speaker

    • @odear
      @odear  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! The Lowther speakers are like a sonic tornado, swirling with dynamic, fresh, and vivid sound. No contest there! However, when it comes to price, the Lii speakers offer a solid option without emptying your wallet. A harmonious balance, wouldn't you say?

  • @MrChaggy123

    This is not comparable!!!! The lowter is super old and the lii sung is brand new

    • @odear
      @odear  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the insightful comment! You're absolutely right about the generational gap between the Lowther PM4A and the Lii Audio Fast-8. It's like comparing a vintage sports car to a modern electric vehicle - both offer unique thrills, but in entirely different ways. That's precisely why we thought it would be interesting to see how these drivers stack up against each other. It's all about appreciating the evolution of audio technology, isn't it?

    fast-8 sonds a lot better to me in this setup also horn seems to be an improvement on both

    • @odear
      @odear  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, fast-8 sounds more right as it is being with more mid, while pm4a needs a big cabinet or backloaded horn to breathe deeply to transmit balanced matchless hi-end sound, cheers

    What are your thoughts between the two?

    • @odear
      @odear  ปีที่แล้ว

      With much higher magnetic power from pm4a, it comes with more open and airy irresistible sound than fast-8, while horn or open baffle may not be right for low qts driver like pm4a if you prefer not just having high but also mid and "low", cheers.

    Ive been to speaker design clubs and heard a lot of full range drivers, (I designed a speaker using two 5.25" FR drivers in a bipolar configuration with a forward firing 8" passive radiator). FR drivers are great if all you listen to is one style of music. When I design a speaker its for multipurpose, not one particular style, so $1499usd for one single driver is way too steep for me anyway. But then again I'm not sure $199usd for one driver is cost effective for me either considering its only good a certain types of music.

    • @odear
      @odear  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for sharing your valuable insights and experiences. It's wonderful to connect with fellow speaker design enthusiasts who appreciate the nuances of full-range drivers. I completely understand your perspective on designing speakers with a multipurpose approach, catering to a wide range of musical styles. Indeed, when aiming for versatility, it may be necessary to consider a combination of 2 to 3 audio systems to fully fulfill the diverse demands of various music genres. This allows for a more immersive and tailored listening experience.
      Striking the right balance between audio fidelity, versatility, and budget is an ongoing pursuit for every music lover and audiophile. Let's continue exploring and celebrating the art of crafting exceptional sound together. Cheers!

      Interesting take on the Fast-8! It's true that the Lowther PM4A brings a different level of refinement to the table. As they say, you often get what you pay for. That said, the Fast-8 still has its place in the audio world, especially considering its price point. Perhaps a bit of EQ magic could unlock its full potential? Curious to hear your thoughts on that!

    If Lii Audio Offers Inside-Out Silver Voice Coil then Probably it can Reach Lowther level of Detailed Sound

    • @odear
      @odear  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s a fascinating observation! While silver voice coils are undoubtedly captivating, let's not get carried away. A driver's performance is a complex symphony of engineering, not just a metallic solo. Think of it like a gourmet meal: it's the entire recipe, not just the silver spoon, that determines the flavor.

    • @odear
      @odear  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same feeling as yours, in conjunction with the bass unit, the PM4A's high frequency band needs to be attenuated. If a wooden horn is used, the sound will be even better.

    • @flex-cx9bi
      @flex-cx9bi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the design of front and rear horn since PM4A needs both to sound balanced.
      When you get it right they sound fantastic, transparent and balanced.
