I have a set of amber snack sets that belonged to my grandmother. When having an overnight at her house she would serve soup and sandwiches on them for lunch and french toast and syrup for breakfast. It made us feel so special.

Snack sets were a staple in every home where ladies served snacks at their club meetings. The little trays were easy to carry and sat perfectly on one’s lap. Thank you for sharing this tradition and your suggestions to collect and use them for entertaining guests.

I absolutely love these and love vintage parties. So much nicer than paper plates or regular ordinary china.

I TOTALLY agree! ❤ And my friends love it when I pull them out. They become a topic of conversation.

As I was preparing to host a tea party for the ladies in my family, I put out a request for decor and other items thru my neighborhood "Buy Nothing" group on FB. Someone generously gifted me a 16 piece, iridescent snack set. I'd never seen nor heard of these but incidentally found another yellow set at a thrift store. One thing led to another and here i am seeing your video. I am so excited to incorporate these for fun meals and snacks with my family as well as larger gatherings in lieu of paper/plastic. Thank you for the great info and ideas!!

I’m so glad you brought this topic up. I happen to love them, grew up with them and own a set from the 1930s which is perfect for bridge parties and ladies lunches. Your enthusiasm for them is precious… great job and thank you♥️

I am a big collector of everything vintage. I’ve started collecting snack sets too and have been lucky to find some pretty ones recently. A favorite tearoom I go yo always uses them for sandwiches and salad or soup in the cup- perfect! I really enjoyed your video. Thank you!

I have one set of four left that is a china set, with roses on it. the plates are round and there is a rimmed area for the cup. I haven't used them in years but I might get my son to bring the set down from the top shelf of cupboard and use it myself for lunch or dinner...plenty large enough because I don't eat big meals anymore. Thanks for this look back down memory lane. Have a Blessed day.

The ribbed tray is Hazel Atlas glass co. From the late 1940’s snack, sip and smoke.

I would have said put a tea bag and a spoon 🥄 what a shock I would never would have thought of a eating drinking smoking tray so strange❤😊

A tea bag and spoon makes total sense (now), but back then smoking while eating wasn't uncommon. It sounds SO crazy to do now! 😀

I recommend hand-washing only, unless you know your dishwasher doesn't put an etching on glass items. This will keep them fabulous looking forever! The trays are also good as a vanity tray for jewelry and makeup.

    • @AdorntheTable

Yes, good point! If you don't want etching on your glass, you should hand wash them. I love the suggestion to use them as vanity trays. 👍

I am 77 and I received a snack set when I married my first husband. Then I inherited my mother's snack trays when she passed. I have to admit that I have never used either set, but now that I want to get away from single use products (paper plates), I may be digging them out to use. I expect that there will be some education needed bucause my guests will likely be unfimiliar with them.

I have several sets and never knew about the ashtray! I thought it was a maybe a slot for a small tea spoon? Thank you for all of the info!

    • @AdorntheTable
      @AdorntheTable  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You are so welcome! Using that small cigarette slot for a teaspoon is a great idea! Especially if someone is using the cup for tea. 😀

I also had no clue about the ashtray. I am excited to have just found your video. I have at least 4 sets of snack trays and got them at an unbelievable low price at thrift stores. I happened to get the last cup you showed separately and found it fit in the first tray you have I also have. I love the handle on the cup.
      Great video! Thanks

I wonder what the cup originally looked like for the first tray.
