There's a restaurant where I live that's attached to a flea market that use those snack sets for their plates! They only serve sandwiches and soup and they use the plate for the sandwich and your soup goes in the cup. Your drink comes in a vintage glass. It's such a neat idea add you can buy these things in any flea market for a few bucks.
Hi Kevin! What a terrific idea for how a restaurant could use these sets in a fun and new way! Yes, they are pretty inexpensive and I still see them often at thrift stores, etc. Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood because of your video when I went to the flea market that day, I found three matching sets in the box... for $5 .. I bought all three 😃
Just seeing that kitchen makes me smile. My mother had canasta parties, but they drank margaritas or whiskey sours. No punch for those ladies. They knew how to live it up.
Mom and I were just going through her china cabinet and came across a few snack sets (similar to the Hospitality sets you have) but she called them "luncheon sets" - she used to have ladies over, served tea, finger sandwiches and little "nibbles". So grateful she kept all her things over the years. Our church used to have "travel nights" where people would show slideshows of their latest travels - it seemed so exotic! Thanks for this trip down memory lane - will show this to Mom - she'll love it.
Hi June - hope you share this with your mom! I'm sure these sets came in handy when she had the ladies over. What a great idea "travel nights" was! I remember going over people's homes to see their slides/home movies of their recent trips and there was always things to eat. Thanks!
Hi 3713msg! I've not heard the term "bridge sets" but it makes sense - I'm sure many people used them when they have people over to play cards. Thanks!
Brings back tons of memories. I think the idea of lunch sets, punch bowls, tea sandwiches, and TV trays sounds like a hoot ! Get out the giant percolator too and serve up some coffee. Enjoy your weekend guys.
I also remember "dessert night" at the church! All the ladies would bake pies, apple, raisin, pumpkin, pecan, lemon meringue were a few I remember. Oh the thrill, of walking in and seeing all those pieces of pie, on individual plates with forks all lined up on tables with table cloths - a thing of beauty. Coffee and tea of course and pride of place were the big punch bowls with maraschino cherries and orange slices floating in them. Can't wait until you do punch bowls!
Hi June! Oh, I would have loved "Dessert Night!" Sounds like heaven to me, and I'll bet those homemade pies were wonderful. I'll do a punch bowl video in the future - maybe make a fun punch to demonstrate! Thanks!
I started collecting snack sets since 1998. My collection is not as yours (only by restraint). I love these sets. I recently gifted a set to my church to get away from paper products for gatherings.
People were so Fancy & Formal!! I wish we were Still! I missed all the 50s Fun...but I'm only using vintage things so my kids & Grandkids see how wonderful days gone by were💛.
My mother used those as luncheon plates. My mom was very active in various communities charities. (Heart Association, Lung Association , Catholic Charities, etc.) I remember setting up tables in the back yard with the buffet table had like 50 of those plates and the cups all around the punchbowl.
We didn't have snack sets when i was younger. But when i found them at GW & SA i went mad & bought them all. I have all the sets you have plus. Thank you so much for this episode, It was so nice to see your collection!
Oh my, what wonderful memories this show brought back! There weren't many evenings my parents didn't visit friends or friends visited us, and there was always a nice snack to end the evening. I miss those times. Thanks for reminding us of those gentle times.
Hi Patsy! Glad this one brought back some nice memories! I think people used to socialize more at homes back then - now people are more likely to meet up at a restaurant or some other place. Thanks so much!
My mom still has the Federal sets. I just used them for a tea party for Job's Daughters. The girls were so cute when they saw these. They thought they were super cool. Mind you they are all under 15 years old. My mom also has the matching punch bowl.
I love these sets. I use them for tea parties for my small daughter and when we entertain guests at a bbq on my porch. I recommend them instead of buying paper products.
I am a snack set junkie! I started collecting them to add to my event center business that ended up falling through, so I have about 100 of them😊 My favorite is the daisy one I got from my grandma's house that you showed on here, its quite hard to find. In addition to the clear sets you showed us, I have a grape vine, watermelon, fan, leaf and the "Sip and Smoke" that has a corner ashtray... yuk! But a great conversation starter! We used them for a bridal shower and everybody loved them. The only draw back, as your camera guy mentioned, is the size of cup. Lol. Great episode, thank you!
This is my stuff right here! Snack sets make my heart smile!!! This is just outstanding and fun!! Yes, my Mom and Aunts would play cards until 2-3 am, and we would just run around in the house and have fun!
I have a huge collection of snack sets. I remember my Grandmother, Aunties and Mom using them when hosting PEO and for card club; Canasta, 500, Rook, Somerset, etc. I started collecting them about 30 years ago, and I would say I have in excess of 200 full sets of 8. My original goal was to keep them for use at my funeral, so people didn't need to use paper plates, and then each person could take the one they used home. I recently decided that I should use them to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday and disperse them in that manner. I have all of the ones you displayed, except that beautiful DAISY pattern. I need to find some of those! I have some green and gold Chrysanthemum from Colony though. I have several milk glass with the rose applique, but also some Lefton's in a fan shape.
Hi Craig - I think using your snack sets at your birthday party is a fun idea and then everyone gets a souvenir of the occasion! Have a wonderful birthday celebration!
My mother got her 3 sets at the S&H Stamps Store! My sisters and I each still have a set. Mom’s table when she had ladies in always had her beautiful cream colored crocheted table cloth, the house smelled delicious with the aroma of “egg shell” coffee and her exquisite desserts! I miss her, but the memories are locked in my heart. 🥹💖
I love vintage dishes and have several of the Federal Glass Hospitality sets! I’ve used them for wedding and baby showers several times. I wish I could think of more reasons to get them out! It’s so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
I started collecting the snack sets in the harvest grape pattern at the local thrift store when my girls were little, with the purpose of having enough sets for their wedding receptions. I currently have over 100 cups and plates along with serving bowls, punch bowls and platters in the same pattern. I've recently decided to sell the collection and no one wants them. I've even tried to give them to my church for gatherings. They would rather have the throw away plastic or paper ware that can be thrown away. And since Covid, Punch bowls are forbidden. I love the glass ware. I think it adds a touch of elegance to a gathering or reception. I still see these dishes and cups here and there at the thrift store and have to restrain myself from buying them.
Hi Donnette - Wow! You have quite a collection of the snack sets! They do still show up regularly at the thrift stores, so I can appreciate your restraint in buying more! They really do look nice and are easy to wash. It's too bad that so many people want everything disposable. I understand the plastic and paper stuff is a lot less work, but it isn't nearly as nice. And for people who are concerned about the environment, you would think the idea of reusing things that can last would be more appealing than creating more plastic waste. Thanks!
Love your channel! My new obsession! My mother had a set just like the second to the last set. I remember serving ladies with them when I was a kid when she hosted missionary society or another lady’s club at our home. As a young stay at home mom, I was a big garage-saler and bought a cute set in a fan pattern. They languish in my garage! Maybe I will pull them out at the holidays! You inspire me! Keep up the good work! I am telling friends and family about your channel!
Hi Heidi! Glad you enjoy the channel! Yes, get that set out of the garage and enjoy it over the holidays! Thanks for sharing our channel with family and friends!
"Ladies who lunch and men who like to munch" I'm always waiting for one of Ralph's zingers...how about TV tables, those folding metal tables? did you ever do jello molds? those copper ones with patterns. my grandmother would make a salmon mousse that was so delicious.
Hi Briney! Yes - I have quite a large collection of coppertone Jello molds. If you ever catch a glimpse above the kitchen studio, you will see more than 50 of them hanging on the wall. I'll feature them in a video in the future. I'll bet that salmon mousse was great!
Being from Southern California, we had a lot of Bauer dishware. My grandma’s snack set from them. I loved all the colorful ceramics. I have a small collection.
I have two full sets of the Hospitality pattern in their original boxes. I never really took notice of the perforated box lid. Interesting to know why that is! There is a $5 Macy’s price sticker on one box. I see them in thrift stores now for $5 for one set of a plate & cup. I also have three sets of a rectangle set. At one end it is a divided portion for the cup and an ashtray. In addition I have three sets of an apple shaped design. These all came from my mom and I am thrilled to have them. I need to find an occasion to use them. They hold many fond memories! Thank you for the information!
We didn't have those sets in our house,,,,but. It reminded me of tinted white bread finger sandwiches my mom's friends made for bridle parties etc. They ordered from the local bakery Pullman loaves, each tinted a different pastel color. As all the sandwiches were egg salad, tuna, chicken etc. the color of the bread told you the filling inside.Everyone seemed to know which was which without being told.
Hi Longhairbear! I've never heard of tinted bread like that - what an interesting idea and a great way to easily identify the different sandwiches! Thanks!
We have some of those sets at work. They are boxed up in a closet. I never realized that they are "snack" sets! Thanks for the informative video! :) Have a great day guys!
Don't have snack sets, and my parents never had them, as far as I know. They always did open houses parties where the food was served buffet style on the dining table, with the antique punch bowl filled with ususally, spiked French 75's that my late father was famous for making down at one end. However, there was a chip and dip set, or sets, whereby a large bowl for chips, and a smaller bowl, a ramekin that held the dip, some sets had that on a little stand so it sat above the chips, and then 4 ramekins for eating from. Pyrex in their Colorware sets made these. The style was quite modern, all the ramekins and the big bowl were all one color, made out of milk glass, and square. All I think they did was gather 5 bowls, one for the chip and combined them with a larger casserole, sans lid into a box to sell as a chip n dip set. The ramekins typically were 12 Oz, I think. I have an odd set of yellow 12Oz ramekins that I use often for Mise En Place when cooking, and I have the odd smaller, red set that I think were 6-7 Oz in size. Bought them separately at two difference estate sales about 25-30 years ago, the red bowl, that I often eat pasta out of came from yet another estate sale, and I have 2 different casserole sizes, both yellow with lids, both like new, one at an antique show at the Tacoma Dome, the other at an estate sale I think. All Pyrex Colorware. This being when I was actively collecting, and I have the multicolor, later version of the mixing bowls, all four bowls in good shape with the largest bowl in yellow (early versions had it in green), Again, got it at an estate sale when you could still find these for reasonable prices, I think it was $12, some 25-30 years ago. as for the Ramekins, I say odd as they were odd numbered, both being 7 bowls each, may have been initially 8 bowls, but both lost one. I recall the red set was in the corner of a garage, just sitting there and bought them anyway. Anyhow, another great look at your collection.
Hi John - glad you enjoyed the look at Snack Sets! Pyrex is another great thing to collect, and I know some folks are way into it - I don't have a lot of Pyrex but I do enjoy using the pieces I have and some of the designs are terrific. I have a number of Chip 'N Dip sets and plan on featuring those in a future video. Thanks!
was great to come upon your Cavalcade of Food. I have my grandmothers white milk glass set. Came upon it cleaning out my Uncles house. He lived downstairs, his parents lived upstairs. Found a few treasures. Will become a new watcher from Alberta, Canada.. 🤣😊😊😊🇨🇦
I HAVE A THICK MILK GLASS SNACK SET (DON'T KNOW THE PATTERN BUT THE PLATE IS AN OVAL SHAPE) AND A DAUGHTER WHO IS INTO ENTERTAINING WITH VINTAGE WARE SO SHE HAS BORROWED IT FOR ONE OF HER DOS. MY FAVORITE OF THE SETS YOU SHARED IS THE MILK GLASS SET WITH THE RED ROSE. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! THANKS FOR HELPING ME REMINISCE. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Wow, what a flashback in memory. When I was a kid my parents would have friends over for coffee, snacks, and games of dominoes. We kids were sent to play in my bedroom until bedtime. They would continue to play dominoes until late in the night. That is the only time the snack set was brought out of the box. My favorite part of those times was the smell of the percolator making coffee and playing with the kids of that came along. We were allowed to have some of the snacks for a brief time. And I was allowed coffee. But my coffee had a lot of milk and sugar in it.
I have my Mom and Dad’s circa 1958 Lefton Handpainted wheat design snack set. I am assuming it was a wedding present as they were married in 1958. Both my parents are passed on with my dad passing in 2015 mom passing in November 2020. Recently discovered this while sorting through their things. Honestly, don’t think it was ever used. Love it! Not sure what to do with it. Maybe have a tea party?
Hi dabeano1 - what a nice keepsake of your parents! That's a very nice set - have a small party and use them (make sure you handwash those...the design probably would fade in the dishwasher) and enjoy! Thanks!
I have a few snack sets. I have some of the Hazel Atlas Orchard apples, and a couple of the blue Capri Swirl. The swirly cups that go with the Capri Swirl set are absolutely lovely. I always wondered exactly what they were used for. The cups on my sets are so tiny!
I have a Blue Ridge snack set in the Fruit Punch pattern. Eight plates with those cup rings. Never used them, but I have a set of matching dishes, cups and saucers too. My parents didn't have many parties. Mom used her wedding silver, china and crystal when we "had the preacher over" a time or two. Our color TV was in the den/dining room and we always watched TV while we ate but not when we had company. Also, thanks for fixing the audio partway through. It was looking like a foreign movie. :)
Hi Jonathan! I've seen the Blue Ridge snack sets and they are very nice. Seems like a lot of different manufacturers got in on the idea, especially when people were entertaining a lot at home. We always at dinner at the table, but had plenty of snacks while watching TV in the family room!! Thanks!
Hi Kev!!! Yes!!! I have a snack set too!! I picked it up at a local antique store… I absolutely love it and I still use it on occasion when people come over for lunch I’ll make coffee and sandwiches which I usually cut in fours so people can just take one or two pieces at a time… With a couple of pickles or olives… They are fantastic!! And the pattern that I have is called Fleurette by Anchorglass in a milk glass color with pink flowers 🌸 I love your sets! They are so much fun!!! Bringing back the past is my favorite thing to do!! Love you guys!!🥰🥰🥰 Jeff xo
Hi Jeff!! I know that Fleurette pattern! I thought I had a set of those somewhere but I can't find them, so maybe I don't. So glad that you use them and they are perfect for lunch plates with something small like little sandwiches. We have to keep using our vintage treasures! Thanks!
Hi Tom! Yes - there was that time before plastic everything - and then Tupperware and melamine got replaced by single-use disposable paper, plastic and styrofoam. Thanks!
Love this channel. It’s a walk down memory lane. When I was growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, we had many of these vintage items you show on this channel. I love seeing your red table and chairs because we had one just like it in green.😀
I have a complete collection of Federal Yorktown (In iridescent.. not clear, like yours) I have all 3 sizes of drinking glasses, footed wine glasses, dessert bowls, footed sherbets, relish tray, 11 inch cake plates, punch bowl, serving bowl, and 3 dozen snack sets. I've loaned the snack sets out for a couple of small weddings, and parties. The punch bowl can also be used for chips instead of punch, I generally use the snack sets as cake plates for birthdays, the relish tray for sliced tomatoes, or celery stalks, and the punch cups I use to serve cranberry sauce in at Thanksgiving.... or if I have a vegetable that has a lot of liquid, that I don't really want to run all over the plate.
I remember my parents entertaining on occasion, nothing really fancy, but my mom never used anything like this. I must admit I've never heard of these before... maybe just the fancy folks had them in town!! I still think people get together to play cards and have dinner. It's just not as formal as it was years ago like on "Leave it to Beaver." 😁😆 Our society is still social, but now in different ways. take care!!
Hi Greg! I think these were more popular in certain areas of the country than others. I agree - people don't get dressed up anymore to go out to someone's home, or much of anything else. I remember when we would dress up to get on an airplane! Thanks!
Less time to set it up. Setting up for a party is an all day job. Cleaning, baking and cooking. Both parents working in most houses now. My mother worked and so did my grandmother. But enough mothers were at home to set these parties up back then. I use to work split shifts. The crock pot was my lifesaver for supper as I was never home before 7 at the earliest. Just not the time for entertaining. But did pull out my mother in laws fancy dishes every Christmas and have a neighborhood party every Christmas Eve for years. Worked great until two people stayed until 4 in the morning instead of leaving at eleven. Had to set up Christmas for the kids and then both had to go to work by 8 am. Never did it again.
I found snacksets at GW in early 2000. I had never seen anything like them and bought every set they had. I think they are just so cute and practical! Thanks so much for featuring them!!
I have a few partial sets, no boxes! I don't think any are patterns you have. But I think they are so dainty. Mine are safely packed in a sturdy storage tote for now but someday I'd like to but them in a china cabinet and use them.
Another great video. We never had these but I have seen quite a few at auction and estate sale. I always wondered what the snack set was for. Great backstory. TY
I have recently discovered this channel and I really love it.... I live in 100 year old house and have a lot of old things that belong to my family... I remember a lot of these things, the ones that I don’t have... keep it up quite lovely and nostalgic
I don't remember these growing up but they are very beautiful! Especially the first one and the last one you showed. I am curious if there is anything that you don't have in your collection that you wished you had? I can't imagine with the massive amount of things you have that there would be anything you have not collected.
Hi Janina! Glad you enjoyed seeing the snack sets! I've been lucky that I've collected things that have interested me over the years (probably way more than I should have!) but every once in a while I get a new interest and start a new collection. I'm running out of room so I try not to do that much anymore! LOL! Thanks!
My mother had the Hazel Atlas set with the ribbed plates and beading along the edges of the plates and cup handles, a smoke and snack set....I acquired many more sets of the same pattern recently for free.
I would love to see a video on percolator coffee pots. Also, my parents collect vintage dish ware. I have seen quite a few of those "snack sets" over the years.
Just found your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on snack sets. It gives great context to how life was lived and enjoyed then. We just bought a few sets to use in our family and eventually in small social gatherings. Looking forward to watching your other episodes.
I know that my mom had a couple of different sets and they were still in the boxes! She must’ve got rid of them when she sold the house. But I remember them being used quite a bit. Thanks for sharing yours!!
@@cavalcadeoffood do you have a video of deviled egg holders? I searched but couldn’t see one. My mother in law just gave us hers. Vintage and totally cute. Just an idea if you haven’t done one!
Thanks Kevin and Ralph. I love the memories you guys conjure up for me. My mom didn't have a snack set but my parents often had another couple over for pinochle and snacks. Sometimes they would listen to a comedy album, like Bob Newhart. They would laugh and laugh. I think I remember using snack sets at bridal showers. There was always punch at those.
Hi Peggy!! Loved how the grown-ups would just get together for a night of card playing. Such a simple social thing that was a wonderful way to spend an evening with friends. Those old comedy albums!! I'll can just hear them all laughing out loud at Bob Newhart! That stuff was really funny!! Thanks so much!
Wandered over from Always Analog. 1) When my father was newly married, he worked for Federal Glass. 2) I sometimes use an old T.V. tray to hold a portable typewriter when I type. (Tying together Cavalcade and Always Analog!)
Hi MAMO - welcome to CoF! Interesting about your dad working for Federal Glass. They were a major manufacturer of glassware in the US. Good idea with the TV tray...they are about the right height for a typewriter (good tie-in!). Thanks!
We called them Ladies sets. The ladies would serve with them when they had showers, card parties or domino parties. Punch and tea with cakes and appetizers were served on them.
Great idea! Make an old fashion punch recipe & show it off using one of your punch bowls & make some tea sandwiches & serve it on one of your snack set plates!
Hi Silver Bubbles! Yes, a big punch bowl of old fashions! I made a punch bowl of whiskey sours for a party a few years ago and everyone loved it! I'll do a punch bowl video in the future - thanks so much!
Love these. I have several sets. Hospitality, American prescut, Snowflake, Wheat, 2 sizes of Sip, Snack, Smoke, and milk glass with grape design and the holy grail Franciscan Atomic Starburst. I know I'm forgetting some. I like to use them for small meals.
I bought the york town set for my parents when I was 7 at the Thrifty Drug store, mom had an Early American living room .....I thought they were so elegant! For a while I collected "cricket" sets aka tennis sets same things but china from England...I have a set of over all violets and a set of golden pine cones on white china before I needed to not collect stuff!
I just picked up the last set you showed. The rosette set. A question for you is if they're safe to use? Reading so much about lead in the glass from way back when.
just subed you. love the snack sets. mom didn't have one but a few friend moms did. and oh ralph that was sargent preston of the northwest mounted polce you were thinking of. great vlog kevin and ralph.
My mom had 3 sets that were wedding presents in 1957. My parents did not "entertain" so I doubt they were ever used lol. I think I have them packed away somewhere
Do you have any of the snack plates that have the ashtray built into the plate? I have quite a collection of snack plates. Well I have quite a collection of lots of old glassware used for “parties”!
This is possibly a regional thing (and someone can correct me), but growing up in in Southern California in the 1950s I do not recall snack sets... however...when my mother-in-law, who was originally from PA, passed away in 2000 at the age of 90, we were clearing up her home in Lake Arrowhead, Ca and found a 16 piece set of these. I held on to them for a few years, but eventually donated them to our local community thrift store. Another fun video, guys!! Jane
Hi Jane! These may have been more popular in the midwest and east. Actually, a few of the companies that made these were located in PA. I'm wondering if your mother-in-law got hers before she moved out west? Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks!
Snack Plates or TV trays with cup wells to hold the cups something you’d see Jackie Kennedy would use for her parties she’d use while entertaining. Tons of companies made them in various color class along with dinnerware pattern to match your dinnerware.spike the punch bowl if you have a dinner party.and buffet
The set I received as a wedding present in 1971 was like the two "the same" sets except mine was that oh-so-popular-at-the-time avocado green. AND so heavy....each one felt like it weighed A TON!!
Hi RugbyFootballer! I wonder if they had a few sets of these at the JFK era White House? They seemed popular with people who entertained frequently. Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood it wouldn’t surprise me if you did there are a few photo floating around on the internet of Jackie Onassis holding a party coupe plate aka snack plate in hand Remember a lot of glass companies made this kinds of hostility plate like Anchor hocking, Fenton, Pyrex. Ect. I found some at my grandmas house she had a new new old stock sets I received donated to the Disabled American Veterans charity organization I would have Vincent St Depaul, Goodwill or Salvation Army well not Salvation Army anymore they have a strong hate beliefs for Gay people which is so un-god like
@@cavalcadeoffood I think the weight depends on what it’s made from I know Franciscan made these to complement their dinnerware pattern they were made of earthenware ceramic take for Example that starburst bowl Kevin and Ralph have that’s made by Franciscan they made snack plates in that pattern
Hi! My wife started to collect these. And we use them. But is there any issue with lead in using them? P.s. we prep ours like mini charcuterie boards !
I have a dozen Indiana glass milkglass sets from my mother, who used them once in the late Fifties for a baby shower. I just don't have the heart to part with them.
I remember my mom had 4 boxes of those. The plates were kind of kidney shaped and they were in gray boxes. She used them for ladies tea parties and that sort of thing. I don't have a clue as to what happened to them though?
There's a restaurant where I live that's attached to a flea market that use those snack sets for their plates! They only serve sandwiches and soup and they use the plate for the sandwich and your soup goes in the cup. Your drink comes in a vintage glass.
Hi Mama Louise! I remember the "grown ups" playing cards - such good times! Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood Yes indeed!
Believe it or not. Who wouldn't believe you have a collection of TV trays!
LOL! Hi Marty - a TV tray collection...maybe I need help :-)
What a great memory! Thank you, Grandma Cookie! The things you could get by saving up those trading stamps!
I remember these. Mine are oval and oblong. Enjoyed the first viewing so much I watched it again! 😊
Thanks, Susan! I've seen the oval shaped ones over the years. Thanks for watching - twice!
I love vintage dishes and have several of the Federal Glass Hospitality sets! I’ve used them for wedding and baby showers several times. I wish I could think of more reasons to get them out! It’s so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome, Leslie! Glad that you get them out and use them once in a while! They are great for small parties! Thanks!
Thanks!
Church ladies’ circles would meet in homes and use these sets. I just got 16 plates/cups from my mother. Federal glass, I love them.
I have a copper mold in the shape of a lobster that was gifted to me - you've inspired me to use it for a salmon mousse - yum!
Hi Briney! Yes - I have quite a large collection of coppertone Jello molds. If you ever catch a glimpse above the kitchen studio, you will see more than 50 of them hanging on the wall. I'll feature them in a video in the future. I'll bet that salmon mousse was great!
I like the one in the silver box the best.
That's a nice one! Thanks peekaboots!
My grandmother had a set in carnival glass. We used it for Easter dinner.
Hi Barbara - carnival glass is really beautiful - I'll bet the Easter table looked great!
Never heard of snack sets. Looks and sounds fun.
Being from Southern California, we had a lot of Bauer dishware. My grandma’s snack set from them. I loved all the colorful ceramics. I have a small collection.
How nice! I have a few pieces of Bauer that was my grandma's and I have always loved the colors Thanks!
I have many sets, all different. I give them away as Christmas gifts, with homemade goodies, and tea. Love them. I just picked up 2 sets today.
Hi Laureen - what a great idea! Thanks!
Thanks!
I recently purchased the set with the wheat pattern by Federal glass at Salvation Army for $10 I was so thrilled to see it on your channel
That's a great pattern! Enjoy!
oh they all look so lovely. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
You're welcome, K Kitchenmom! Thanks for watching!
We have some of those sets at work. They are boxed up in a closet. I never realized that they are "snack" sets! Thanks for the informative video! :) Have a great day guys!
Thanks, Going Slightly Mad!! You will have to find a way to enjoy the ones you have at work - these are really fun! Thanks!
Hi Yvonne! So glad you found us! Sounds like you have a nice set in milk glass! Enjoy!
Hi Sunny! So glad you enjoy the videos - thank you for watching!!
Hi Johnny - thanks for sharing that wonderful memory!
I bought a set in box that had not only coffee cups but also cocktail cups from the goodwill bins. Thinking these might be great for picnics
They would be nice for a picnic!
Thanks, Pumpkins! You have some nice snack sets! The Capri Swirl is beautiful!
Thanks!
Had to watch this again.
Hi Barry - hope it was as good the second time around!
Beautiful 🥰
Thanks, Beverly!
Hi Kev!!!
Love you guys!!🥰🥰🥰
Jeff xo
Hi Jeff!! I know that Fleurette pattern! I thought I had a set of those somewhere but I can't find them, so maybe I don't. So glad that you use them and they are perfect for lunch plates with something small like little sandwiches. We have to keep using our vintage treasures! Thanks!
Then along came the unbreakable: Tupperware and melamine. Beautiful sets.
Hi Shirley - glad you enjoy the videos and nice to know it brings back good memories! Thanks for watching!
I've seen those iridescent glass pieces - they are really nice. That's a creative use for the punch cups!
I've been collecting snack sets this year, and I'm collecting many more as I am so inspired by you!
Hi Mama Louise! So glad to know you are collecting snack sets...they are a lot of fun!
I remember my parents entertaining on occasion, nothing really fancy, but my mom never used anything like this. I must admit I've never heard of these before... maybe just the fancy folks had them in town!!
I still think people get together to play cards and have dinner. It's just not as formal as it was years ago like on "Leave it to Beaver." 😁😆
Our society is still social, but now in different ways. take care!!
Amazing! best to ever you do!!!
Thanks, Mum's Simple Recipes!
Wonderful!
Thanks!
I found snacksets at GW in early 2000. I had never seen anything like them and bought every set they had. I think they are just so cute and practical! Thanks so much for featuring them!!
You're welcome, Sandra!
OMG, I had a snack set years ago
Hi Joan! Thanks for watching!
TY
Thanks, Eileen!
I have recently discovered this channel and I really love it.... I live in 100 year old house and have a lot of old things that belong to my family... I remember a lot of these things, the ones that I don’t have... keep it up quite lovely and nostalgic
Hi Suzanne! So glad you found us! Thanks so much!
Hi Cissy - I have seen that Hazel Atlas set before, it's really nice. Sounds like you have a nice collection!! Thanks!
I would love to see a video on percolator coffee pots. Also, my parents collect vintage dish ware. I have seen quite a few of those "snack sets" over the years.
Hi Jason - I'll try to do a percolator video one of these days! Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on snack sets. It gives great context to how life was lived and enjoyed then. We just bought a few sets to use in our family and eventually in small social gatherings. Looking forward to watching your other episodes.
Hi Mike! So glad you found us! Enjoy those snack sets - they are fun to use at a party! Thanks!
I know that my mom had a couple of different sets and they were still in the boxes! She must’ve got rid of them when she sold the house. But I remember them being used quite a bit. Thanks for sharing yours!!
You're welcome, John! Funny how many people kept the boxes that these sets came in! I guess it made them easy to store in between uses. Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood do you have a video of deviled egg holders? I searched but couldn’t see one. My mother in law just gave us hers. Vintage and totally cute. Just an idea if you haven’t done one!
@@jack6964 Hi John! Funny you mention egg plates because they have been on my "to-do video" list for a while. I'll be doing one in the future! Thanks!
I believe I have three curtain tiers that match your wallpaper. Have never used them, but they are so charming!
Hi Trixie! It's a great pattern - I'll bet those curtains would look great on a kitchen window!
I really enjoy these videos. Thank you for sharing!
You're welcome - appreciate you watching!
Hi Meredith Lynn - I never heard them called Ladies sets, but that's a great name for them! Perfect for ladies parties! Thanks!
These are perfect for small meals! So glad to know you put yours to use! Enjoy!
Kevin, these snack sets are great to see, they used to be at almost every large garage sale or church sale.
Hi Brett! I still see them pretty often at sales - they represent a great time period. Thanks so much!
I have learned something new. Great show😀
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks, Carol!
I've always thought these were so much better than juggling flimsy paper plates and plastic cups.
Love it! I've never seen them...
Thanks, Alison!!
I have the hospitality plates I need alot more!
Hi Stacey! Don't you love that Hospitality pattern? Keep looking - you'll find more - they are out there! Thanks!
Hi Nora! How nice that you bought a set for your parents when you were a kid! Thanks!
Hi Marcel - thanks for Sgt. Preston and subscribing!
My mom had 3 sets that were wedding presents in 1957. My parents did not "entertain" so I doubt they were ever used lol. I think I have them packed away somewhere
Hi Wyatt - these were popular shower gifts and wedding presents. Thanks!
Pre Chinet days. I have a few pieces of Prescut the snack set in the box is one of them.
Hi Tim! LOL yes - pre Chinet for sure! That Prescut snack set is one of the greatest patterns, I think! Enjoy!
Do you have any of the snack plates that have the ashtray built into the plate? I have quite a collection of snack plates. Well I have quite a collection of lots of old glassware used for “parties”!
My mom had fan-shaped snack plates...they were by Fentonware. They have them on ebay.
Hi Gary! That set your mom had was very nice! Thanks!
Thanks!
Hi Heather! I'll bet those avocado sets were sturdy! Seems like the amber and avocado colored stuff always weighed more than the clear glass!
I wish you had a set of Hazel Atlas snack sets with the one corner on the plate designated as an ash tray!
Hi Herman - I don't have any of those style but I've seen them before. I always thought it was odd to have your ashtray so close to your food. Thanks!
We used those for bridal showers, baby showers, etc.
Hi Charlene - I can see how these would well for showers. Thanks!
Hi! My wife started to collect these. And we use them. But is there any issue with lead in using them?
P.s. we prep ours like mini charcuterie boards !
Do you ever do the MIXERS?🙂🙂🙂👍
Hi James - yes, I've done episodes on hand mixers and stand mixers. If you search my channel you will see them. Thanks!
I have a dozen Indiana glass milkglass sets from my mother, who used them once in the late Fifties for a baby shower. I just don't have the heart to part with them.
Hi Trixie - so nice to have those sets from you mom!
I remember my mom had 4 boxes of those. The plates were kind of kidney shaped and they were in gray boxes. She used them for ladies tea parties and that sort of thing. I don't have a clue as to what happened to them though?
Hi Scooter! I think I've seen the kidney shaped plates out there - they would have been perfect for a tea party! Thanks!
like from morocco 👍
Thank you!! Great hearing from Morocco!
I had a few of these. I have moved so much. A lot got broken
Where is this set located? Is it a store? I could not care less about glass snack sets, but the set is spectacular.
In Michigan - no, not a store - it's a studio. Thanks!
I have a fondue pot complete with metal trays stereo pots forks etc... you want it? It's green the date on box is 1953
New in box never used
Hi BettyB - I have a few fondue pots, but what color is yours?
People are agast now when they see the snack sets that have the " ashtray" indentation . After the nibbles came the relaxing smoke .
Hi lightmarker - so true. In the 50's, so many people smoked that there were ashtrays all over the place. Thanks!
