I’m really sorry you had such an awful experience. Last summer I acquired a lot of antique jewelry from the 1800s and early 1900s. I was going to ask her to appraise the jewelry for me, but after watching her a few times, I was put off by her condescending remarks to her “guests”. I, in turn, hired George the Antique Nomad for a video appraisal. Boy, I was glad I did. I don’t think anyone knows more about antique and vintage anything than George. His fees are really reasonable and he’s a sweetheart.
That is so great that you found a reliable person to help you and do it correctly for a reasonable price! I do not know about him but will surely be looking him up.
@@diannacashion2047 Thank you. I do not really need appraisers anymore because I have learned how to price things through lots of research on my own now, but I did check out his channel. I love his energy and videos! I already wrote him. He is from about 15 minutes from where my husband grew up and his family still lives! That is so amazing! Thank you so much for letting me know about him. It is so cool to watch him and I can tell he is SO knowledgable!
@@OlivesVintageMarket That’s great!….I follow a reseller Old Curiosity Shop on TH-cam….Scott is very informative on tons of antiques and he restores a lot of things and shows how he does it. He is In Philadelphia and he’s a real hoot!…He loves the 30’s and Art Deco. He doesn’t do jewelry, but he is a lot of fun to watch.
Let me tell you people who defend Lori V. something. I used her appraisal services (if that's what you want to call it.) And I will never ever ever use her again. I love Art and was starting to find Art to hang in my home. And I found a neat picture and I wanted to know about it. I did a one on one video with her and she didn't know anything about anything that I asked concerning my Art. In fact when I asked her who the artist was she said some name and said "Oh I know all about his work. So after the phone video conversation that I paid for, I started REALLY looking at my Art but I missed the Artist Signature the 1st time around. That is why I called Lori V., But there was an Artist signature a hand signed signature! I then realized that Lori V. COMPLETLEY gave me a totally different artist name, this was NOT the artist that did & signed my artwork! I later got it appraised by a REAL Appraiser and he confirmed the artist and work to be the artist that signed it.Not who Lori V. told me.She was totally inaccurate. So I asked for a refund from Lori V. and at 1st she refused and I was nice and she kept refusing so I threatened to expose her. She then did give me a full refund but she still stood by her stupid unknowledgable appraisal information. She said she stands by her appraisals and does it all, (different types of Art appraisels that is). Antiques Roadshow has an appraiser for each category, NOT a Jack of all trades. I am so glad she is being exposed now. She is abusive, rude, and not worth the paper she writes on, along with her staff. The public is NOT her punching bag, if she has past trauma then she needs to seek counseling. So shame on anyone who can't handle the truth about Lori V. This is what America is... Freedom,....of speech, good, bad or in-between! I was sooo bummed when I experienced that with her. Fortunately I have done my own research and help from other knowledgeable people especially Olives Vintage Jewelry identification website. She has helped me Soo much with accurate info and doesn't have to talk down to anyone. Why use someone like Lori V. When the whole world sees how nasty she can be, It's very unnecessary and definitely unprofessional. Thank You!
Oh my gosh! I am so sorry. I totally agree though. I am not sure how in the world she keeps people paying for those 'appraisals'. I am so happy you found someone to help you. I am definitely not an art person, I love it and have it, but do not know about the prices, lol. Thank you for this comment. I could not believe the amount of hate this little video caused, but that's ok. I have met so many wonderful people as well, and the others can keep hate watching I guess, lol. And excellent point there is no way that everyone can know everything that is just no possible. I have had a lot of others contact me about some of her appraisals and it was very bad. I was not allowed to use them in any other videos because they wanted a refund from her and didn't want to risk losing the money (which I totally understand). However, I can tell you what it was, lol. It was an 18k gold necklace by Elizabeth Locke. The earrings by this designer are in the thousands, and the appraisal was for under the scrap value. I mean its one thing to not know it was a designer, its a whole other thing to not even be able to get the intrinsic value correct. Jeez anyone can look up scrap weight, and they paid the $1000 fee!!!
I took one of her "so much fun" classes and she was miserable and condescending. she knows a lot and I learn from her but she's brutal and mean spirited. she's particularly mean when she's in comedy mode in her live shows. the antique nomad is the opposite.
So glad I found this video! Had considered using Lori but was on the fence because I saw her give an awful appraisal of opal to a viewer while berating the viewer in the process. Okay, so she only pretends to know opal when she's actually clueless, but everything else? Your plate devaluation in two weeks time was INSANE!! What a slap to the face. I would have pursued that refund due to the plate alone and I personally will NOT be using her.
Thanks for the video. I resell and know that her appraisals are often way too high. I would never get what she claims people can resell things for - impossible. I feel sorry for people who comb thrift stores and spend even $100 on stuff that she promises are valuable to resell and they really aren’t. I’m sure she has a crew of her students going through those emails and trying to appraise it themselves or competing to get an answer from her - when she’s already spread too thin. The best thing is to research yourself and if you really can’t find anything, move on to another piece because it’s probably not worth much. Not finding anything on a piece doesn’t mean it’s a secret treasure.
I don't always agree on her appraisals either but she did say in one video that you have to know the market you are selling to. Do your research and sell on platforms that reach more sophisticated people like Ruby Lane.
I don't mean to stick up for Dr Lori, but as someone who started collecting over a decade ago, I found websites that identified all kinds of collectibles. There are dozens of different marks for Noritake China alone. There are hundreds of different manufacturers of porcelain and ceramics and each one may have changed their mark many many times during their lifetime. What I'm trying to say, is that no one person could possibly know even 1% of the different marks on porcelain out there. You will always be disappointed if you think any single person could do that. Especially when she also has to be knowledgeable about jewelry, sculpture, paintings, glass, and so many other things. She would have to know millions of marks to provide each one. I've sold dozens of things without knowing what the mark meant (maybe I should have kept them). What she does is to have a large broad knowledge of many things and makes her best guess which is better than someone without her background can do.
Oh, I totally agree with you. I guess I did not get this through on the video that I did not believe that she was the end-all and be-all of the appraising. However, since she said she could I hoped that she had resources, a team, a site, or something that would allow her to find the pieces or translate the symbols. I know now that it is not possible to be even 1/10 of what she claims to be in her knowledge (and that is ok). I just wish she did not act like she did know everything and claim to be able to do all of this because people are paying a lot of money to get those answers that she does not provide. I have sold a lot too, and in the years since I have become so much more knowledgeable about jewelry and a few other areas, but not every single thing. So do I think she is smart and knowledgable yes! However, do I think she is claiming to do a lot more and be more knowledgeable than she is yes also. I was just trying to give people realistic expectations and hopefully save them some money so they did not have their hopes dashed when she could not answer everything. Thank you so much for your comment. I always appreciate the respectful discourse of others.
I mean I’m sure she mistakenly not on purpose you know identify something wrong or whatever but she has a Lotta education on antiques and all that stuff specially paintings my only problem is that I thought she was cheaper because I hear her say $59 for appraisals and they’re saying some thing else so I guess I will never ask her for an appraisal I thought $59 was pretty good I mean I learned a whole lot from her I’ve never prayed anything and I believe I do have things of value but you do learn a lot watching her and her talking about the value and how to look for this and how to tell if it’s a fake her shopping at thrift shops you learn a lot
I’ve been watching Dr Lori for quite some time, and sometimes I hear people make comments as you did. Personally, I don’t understand it. She’s got a straightforward, humorous, blunt personality, sometimes that I love.. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions, but when trashing, somebody, have concrete details of what, why where, and when
@@TheLifeEvolutionPlan I made an example. The point is she doesn't know everything. I think she has knowledge, but when you are wrong you should acknowledge the mistake.
There is thousands of Makers mark, a appraiser is not gona know all of them. A appraiser goes by the material it's made off and the way it's made, not always by whom the maker is. A makers mark can be by a guy down the street who makes his own pottery and he Mark 's it as his own does not mean it's valuable. You can not depend on the the information thrown at you from the internet, many times it's very wrong. Dr. Lori has a PHD who taught at Penn state and has many years experience in Antique appraisal, and the incredible experience of traveling around the world to famous museums and learning about Art and vintage and Antique items.
She got her PhD at Penn State but was never a Professor there. Maybe a teaching assistant when she was doing her PhD. I watch her videos because, although I find her arrogance and rudeness repulsive, she gives some good info. However, I often scratch my head at the crass misinformation she provides, without forgetting to say "based on actual sales record", which is funny. Another thing to keep in mind is that she (or her staff) deletes all the posts she doesn't like on her videos, thus giving the impression that everyone is in awe at her expertise.
Hello! You & I connected a few months ago over issues w/ Dr. Lori. You had done a video about jewelry, which is why I'm reaching out now. A friend found (stashed away in her house) a watch marked Gucci that she bought 40-50 years ago. She is interested in selling it. My question is about authencity. Is it easy to tell a fake? I haven't seen the watch and she doesn't remember what she paid for it way back when. If you could point me in a direction to test it I would appreciate it! Thanks, Kathy
Hey, yes, I think we lost touch. Was I suppose to come see you. Life gets me off track sometimes. So sorry. ~ Serial Number is a real sure fire way to authenticate watches. I do not deal with watches a lot because of the massive amount of fakes, but if she bought it that long ago and bought it from a reputable dealer it would more than likely be authenticate. Also something I have seen in Gucci fakes is they lack the Swiss Made which is on Gucci watches. It is pretty hard to tell, but you can always send a picture and I can take a look see, and if its not clearly fake I can tell you if its worth looking into more. I hope this helps
Firstly, I know that others have already said so but I'll say it again: thank you for making this video, it takes a lot of courage to stand up to someone with quite a lot of powerful backers. I'm an antiques dealer and have been in the field for about two decades. I also have a master's degree in art and art history. I've been watching Dr. Lori for a while now and have been thoroughly disgusted by many of her practices. It's a strong word, I know but hear me out. Firstly, expertise: Dr. Lori claims to be an expert in pretty much every single field of antiques and vintage collectables. She literally claims to be one of the foremost experts in the world about Faberge but has written little to nothing about them (big red flag) other than one small article for tourists. First and foremost, nobody but nobody can know everything about all of those fields. It's just impossible. That's why big auction houses have experts. Dealers often specialize in a given field or maybe a couple or have friends who can help us out if we have questions about a piece. For this reason, she gets a lot wrong. I can't talk about stuff such as American pottery as I know nothing about it but here are just three examples in domains I can comment about that I've seen where she's been way off (all can be found on TH-cam): 1- Katana valued at 2000$: not actually Japanese, likely a tourist piece from another Asian country. Rusted to pieces. Likely less than 100 years old. Actual value: 100$ or less. On a side note, even if it was authentic 1600s Japanese, in that condition, it would be worth no more than 500$ unless it was by a very famous swordsmith. 2- Auguste Renoir painting: Well, the original is well known about and can be found in the Orangerie. You can purchase this painting from China any day of the week for 80$. Still told the owner that it was a genuine piece worth a fortune. I could go on. I suspect that some of this is done for showmanship but it can have a terrible impact on people's lives. For starters, the heartbreak when they can't get that promised price and/or learn the truth about the value. Secondly, it can be really problematic for insurance purposes if you need to make a claim. My main beef however is that she doesn't accept any form of criticism. I know a few concerned colleagues and I have done the same, who politely questioned a few of her appraisals. By which I mean questioned how/where she got her valuation from and listed reasons why they had some doubts. All comments are very swiftly deleted. If you have any doubts, I suggest you try questioning her politely on one of her videos. Within five hours, it will be down. So she definitely has a team, I doubt she has the time to watch all of the comments herself. I also strongly dislike her criticism of the rest of the trade. She puts a lot of time and effort into claiming that antiques dealers, auction houses and other experts don't know anything or are con artists. Just to be clear, some art but not all. They also offer their services at a far more reasonable cost or in some cases, for free (noticeably auction houses). I have no idea why she is so popular and nobody seems to be criticizing any of this other than you and a very few others.
OMG! You are so right. It is so crazy to me how fanatic her fans are. Yes, you can be a fan, but you should have seen the emails I got after I did this video. People called me ugly, and my daughter stupid, and one person said I hope your dad dies of cancer. Jeez, right. Just for making a video. It is crazy how little information is out there on how bad this is. I have learned much more over the last months since posting this. There have been countless people who contacted me and told me about their appraisals as well and it is shocking. I watch her more now because people were asking me to look at certain things on her videos and again, shocking! It is right there for everyone to see that she is completely wrong. She is doing a lot more damage than help in my opinion by giving out appraisals that have no basis in reality. Who says you can appraise a piece of jewelry even if you do not know the maker. You see that too. I can not understand how people are taking her seriously. As an entertainer, that's fine, but seriously as a trusted appraiser, I am 100% out, lol. Thank you so much for commenting and for your kind words. It is always nice to hear others' opinions.
@@OlivesVintageMarket Sadly I can believe it. Although I wouldn't necessarily take it personally. The fact is that you had the courage to make a video highlighting some of the issues with her valuations and expertise. That's going to rub a lot of people who have used her services up the wrong way, whether they realize it or not. I work a lot with auctioneers, many of whom have been in the business for decades and who inherited their jobs/titles from their parents. They have told me similar stories about insults and even threats when they have given valuations that were too low for the owner's liking. Obviously, you aren't giving valuations, however by casting doubt on what Dr. Lori has said, I imagine a lot of people don't want to be faced with the prospect that something she valued at 350$ might only be worth 20$. Rather than doing research themselves and potentially being disappointed, they would much rather insult, ridicule and deride to try and comfort/fool themselves that there's no way that Dr. Lori could possibly be wrong. That's to say nothing about the potentially wasted money of having used her services several times to get incorrect valuations and opinions. It's a bit pill to swallow. To quote Mark Twain, "It's easier to fool someone, than to convince them they've been fooled." I'm honestly hoping that more videos and people like you will come along and speak out against this practice of extortionate prices for valuations (I don't know much about the states but in central Paris, an expert Commissaire Priseur (auctioneer with a lot of qualifications) will come to your house in person for half a day for about 250$) and then giving over inflated values afterwards. Dr. Lori, sadly, isn't the only one doing it but she's certainly the most vocal and the person with the most amount of coverage.
So I think she got popular when she aired a few episodes on the curse of oak island. Just from watching a few videos I feel you are a very calm and easy going person. You collect beautiful things and would let others discourage you from showing the beautiful things you find because a few others drink the Kool-aid. I have watched her show and man she is so rude to people and not sure but I can’t believe people just take the punches, like oblivious to fact she shames you on her show. Karma , you wish harm to people’s family over a women that speaks to people as though you are stupid and she is the all might god. Sorry, people have the right to state opinions and debate on the matter in a rational and adult manner, not threats and wishing death to someone’s family. That’s just sick.
I've only started watching her recently and I'm definitely learning some things from her because I'm new to antiques... but I also question that Renoir painting. I can't imagine why an auction house would miss a Renoir painting and why it wouldn't already hang in a museum or in the home of a rich person. I mean, I can believe that it's possible to find valuable art, but someone like Renoir? Also if she really thought it would be a Renoir, wouldn't she take more time and ask at least a second opinion on it? And even in the video where she appraises it she doesn't talk about it very long, doesn't talk about Renoir's style or the painting itself at all, just about the canvas and the back. As an art lover I find this strange when it's a painting from such a big name. When people ask in the comments for a follow-up she says it's authentic and she is the one who appraised this. I saw some articles from 2018 that it was going to be sold by Bruneau & Co. I'm curious if they actually sold the painting. I compared it to an image of the one in the Orangerie, and it's quite different! I must say I didn't even really like the painting that was shown to dr. Lori. The face wasn't painted right and the strokes were very dark and busy while Renoir's style feels very light and uplifting. So if it's a reproduction it isn't even very well done. It's quite obvious a different painting. If it was real, it would be a different one on the same subject, which happens I guess, but it wouldn't represent the style of the painter very well to me. On the other hand it's hard to believe she would actually lie about this to people and auction houses. So she herself would probably believe it is authentic. But she would have studied Renoir, having an Ph. D. in art history. I just don't get this!
I had 2 bad experiences with her. She appraised 3 items for me on Facebook. The first 2 seemed ok but the third I believed was possibly capodimonte. She said oh that’s um that’s I’m yeah. It’s only worth 25 bucks. She couldn’t tell me what it was. Then I had a string of pearls appraised “live”. She told me they were real and worth 800 dollars. Something just didn’t seem right so I took them to a jeweler the next week. She told me they were plastic beads!
LMAO! That is terrible. I have a feeling she does not know jewelry well at all. Do she have them in her hands? How could she ever know if she didn’t? So sorry. That could be a big let down when you think you have something very nice and it turns out to be not worth much.
Yes they are! I think that is one of the marks she Identified after I put in the dispute. It was very nice to know. I basically stole those from an Estate sale, lol. My dad and I came across them and bought them for hardly anything.
I wish I did know more about beanies, but I know they have a ton of different things that can make them worth a lot, but I just do not have that kind of knowledge or know anyone who does.
I have had a couple things appraised that were right on. I agree she can sound condescending. I grew up in CT about 30 miles from her. If you aren't from CT it's hard to deal with that attitude. I never noticed it until I moved away. Then after a bad marriage moved back and my 18yo daughter made the comment one day " the people here are so rude"..living in Florida now I see the difference. New Englanders can sound condescending. Not all, But it's very common and I've learned not to take it personally.
LOL, yes, I have lived in many different places and you are right sometimes just how people talk and act in certain parts of the country can put others off. I am very happy you have had a good experience with her. I feel like I have heard her individual appraisals are good, but the unlimited are not so much.
You're right, people's attitude up north is without filters and if they think you're not using common sense they will point it out. Lol, kind of like "You know you're a redneck if...' Common sense is not common. She points it out. I love her dead on honesty. Makes people think
She just posted the Kenneth Jay Lane collection as if it was her find. I'm certain that was done several years ago on Antiques Roadshow. I could be wrong, or OMG, did she just take credit for that?
If a person goes to Worthpoint, you can find out exactly what your objects have actually sold on the net for the last 5 years. It costs about $26-27 per month. You can look up what actual value against Lori's" information". You can see for yourself how off the mark she is on objects. See for yourself.
Of the total number of items you submitted, how many are there where she was, as you say, “totally wrong”? Fortunately, there are innumerable appraisers who will gladly appraise items for a fee.
That is true and I know I have worked with a lot of appraisers especially on things I did not know about but felt were something special. I think saying “totally wrong” is a bit of a subjective question. Since she did not answer a lot of the questions probably only about 4 of 31 submissions did she get 100% wrong. However, 27 of the 31 had either missing elements, incorrect answers, no identification , and value appraisal issues. So I tried to show a lot of the examples, but I did want to bore everyone by showing all of the ones that said “unknown maker” or fuzzy photo. But those missing parts and
I watched a video telling a live guest that her Louie Vuitton was fake! She said it was fake because the logo on the back side of the purse was upside down. Omggg! I own several small bags and the reason for this being "upside down " is because they cut smaller purses with one piece of material! She then said it wasn't an LV color??😂😂 Unbelievable and sad for the person she screwed out of 2,000.00.
OMG! Right! It is just wrong. She is not good!! Thank you for telling me this. I didn't know that about LV. I do not own any, but it is always nice to know some little details like that.
On the ring the maker is an early Trifari mark. There is a crown trifari and like two others as well as this one. Like you sign your name different than you did at 14 years old it changes over as well as it’s a ring so not a lot of space to put things.
I’m not surprised by your experience. I have tried to watch her videos but agree with several other comments…she seems so condescending. Plus, no one can be an expert on everything…there is just too much! It’s really hard to believe she is reliable.
Yes, that is true. I was not thinking that at the time, but now I know it’s true. I am actually surprised so many people thing if her as condescending. She did give me that vibe when I talked to her but I just thought that was because I was trying to get a refund, lol. I do not watch her though. Someone said they get secondhand embarrassed for others and I feel like that is how I would feel as well.
She’s a single woman who is very well versed but being single and well educated and that’s her life. I like to watch her show. I have collected since I first got married in 1963 but am not an expert on all the things people collect. I have been interested in different things at different times.
That's great to hear that you enjoy watching her show, and it's wonderful that you've been collecting for so many years since 1963. I understand that you enjoy watching her show, and it's clear that you appreciate her expertise. However, my personal experience with her appraisal services led me to question the accuracy of the information provided. I believe it's essential for experts in any field to ensure that the information they share is accurate, as it can significantly impact collectors and the market. While I respect differing opinions and perspectives, I felt it was important to highlight the inaccuracies I encountered during my own interactions with her services. I too have collected and am interested in many different subjects and items, but I do not claim to be an expert on all of them. Everyone has their own field/fields of expertise, and I believe that it is safe to say you can not be an expert on every subject. Even if I never did anything except answer emails and do market research for others it would be impossible to answer all of the questions she has submitted. Just by her own website she states she answers over 20000 questions a year. That is an average of 55 questions a day. 55 items to research, observe, verify, Identify, and do research on market value EVERYDAY! That does not include the events, family gatherings, holidays, shows she records, and classes she offers and teaches. It is just not possible for one person to do all of this even if she could just conjure up the answers from her own head and never did any research it would still be extremely hard to answer that many a day. I am sure she has a team that answers a lot of these questions, but that is not what people are paying for.... I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and an even Happier New Year!
That is a nice thought, but after I researched it more it was Hercules. I do not think Daniel killed the lions, but their mouths were shut, but I could be not remembering that right.
I am glad I watched this video! I was considering getting a Dr Lori appraisal. ..you know after watching so many videos of her you kind of get"programmed"into thinking she's going to tell you something that'll make you rich!LOL!you get lulled into it talking yourself into thinking she's going to be awed by your stuff(crap)! You can't help hoping!Just last nite I was going thru my DR & out of my eye's corner I noticed a small plaque on the 4 drawer wooden filing cabinet I got out of trash!(should've seen me"dollying"that thing home holding dog leash, how I got it up my porch steps Im not sure! It's heavy!Guy paid $25 at house sale so I assumed it wasn't worth much but I loved/love it!So,u inspired me to do research online & I found prices from $600-2500, solds. I was shocked!Ofcourse other "crap"(LOL) I thought were valuable aren't but I love my antiques. It's all over the place like an"appraiser"who did my Mom's house sale was a miserable loser & sold everything for almost nothing! She'd priced a very old charcoaled pic of Lincoln in a big old oval frame at $50!Thankfully a gal called me nite before to say antique collector had remembered it & offered $1300(which I accepted)& the house sale lady had a fit next day!So there are many either crooks or total idiot amateurs out there that get their info from Dr Lori or just are stupid. I'd suggest never to do "pro" house sales as they know most people are either kids that just want to quickly dump the stuff(or crap that's not crap!LOL!)or in desperate circumstances & will sell at any price. It is not only buyer beware but seller too! I read KOVELS a lot & you can get almost any book by well known antique dealers, appraisers etc....books of marks, furniture, glass, art etc used for really cheap at thriftbooks.com!Anyway sorry so long to just say thanks!Really good"crap"in ur video!LOL!(we call everything crap in Pgh PA! Just means "stuff" or "good stuff")😁
to me, she's amazing, i have gotten many appraisals from her and made thousands of dollars based on her knowledge. She's helped WAY more people than not, that's for sure. She does so much for the world by sharing "for free" tons of info. She has to make a living too and i feel she's very fair in her prices for online appraisals. With that said, I do agree that i would have been a little upset to ask many questions for each item and receive a reply of "value" and nothing not much else or clearly not actually looking at everything well i.e. tube hinge piece. At least, she could have written "i did not find the maker" and "i'm having to make a guess on value",..by writing nothing, i don't feel you got what you paid for on a lot of these individual items. She should elaborate. I think she needs to tweak her "plans", rather than have people pay up front, she should review all the items ahead of time and decide if she can help and if not, tell client she doesn't know certain ones so they can remove it from pile. Then charge the client based on the ones she actually knows info about. Let's face it, she can't know everything about everything, she won't ever say that but we know that. I think customers should have the ability to write back and debate, for example your tube hinge silver piece, i would have been livid, written back and exposed it right then because you are 100% correct, it's victorian. The chinese charger thing would have affected me same as you.....Wow. She did do a very poor job with you. Sorry you had such an experience. I have not thank god, I love her, i have learned SO much from her and i do my own research as well to try to make sure it aligns with her. I hope i never experience anything like this.
OMG! Beautiful response! Thank you so much! I am very happy that she has helped you and you have had a great experience. Also for not being mean to me. So many people calling me names and that kinda hurt. I so agree with you. The service is what I was reviewing and not the person. It was a very bad one. I am not sure how she could keep up with all of the services she does and stay sane. Also, it would have been nice to write back and say something. I do agreed that if the information is answered and lots of items are given to be answered than yes, the price would be worth it, but if the services were like mine it would not be. Wonderful comment. Thank you it is very nice to see both sides of the coin. I do not want to bash her. I am not sure how anyone could stay in business without a lot of knowledge, but this one service was bad for me. Thank you again and I love your name!
I had 3 months service with her most of the pieces sold at the prices she appraised , however I know now people are trying to hustle you down with inflation etc.... Also a lot of people will tell you it’s not worth the amount just to get you to sell it cheaper . I am a 50/50 but all her videos are very informative.
I agree..I saw her in kissimmee. FL. She did 1 free appraisal for each of the 1st 100 people. After the show you could have items appraised for $25 each. There were plenty of people who had items that weren't worth that much and while she gave the appraisal, she refused to charge them for any items worth less than the $25 fee. No one is perfect and maybe she didn't handle something correctly but we've all been there.
On two of her videos she called what was very obviously Hematite marcasite!!! I could not believe it! Thought it was just a slip up but she did it twice! I've seen her Mis-identify and appraise others jewelry that is modern and cheap as mid century and valuable!!! I personality feel she had very basic to little jewelry knowledge and is a fraud to her viewers! Seriously ... I get FREE appraisals at Bonhams and butterfields in person with the history, maker ID, date, auction value AND retail value!!!! They spend close yo 10 minutes in my evaluation. I think Dr Lori is more brilliant at marketing herself that giving genuine appraisals. REAL market value is what people are willing to pay... and not what Dr Lori says!
I came across your video on my feed. You are describing your experience and feelings, which is courageous in the social media world where anyone can criticize you, and they will! Full disclosure: I have paid for three video calls with Dr. Lori and got on her live TH-cam free appraisal show twice. I think many of the concerns you have are valid and no one can dispute your feelings. I’m sure that Dr. Lori has a team of people to help, as she is likely inundated with requests. It’s quite possible that one of her staff appraised some of your items, and that’s why the info. was scant or incorrect. I’m not making excuses for her; just trying to think of a reason why some of your appraisals were questionable. I have had great experiences with her on video calls. She has accurately identified objects and values for me. Her personality takes some getting used to, as she is blunt and sarcastic. But I’m not paying for her personality; I’m paying for her expertise. Thanks for sharing your experience. I think the title of your video is somewhat misleading because you do actually present the pros and cons of Dr. Lori’s appraisal service. Thanks!
Maybe, you are right about the title. I have to make these things while holding my daughter half sleep deprived and sometimes it’s just what ever leaps into my head, lol. I think a lot of us have come to a conscience that she has to have a team and that is what happened to me and others I have spoken with. I have no problem with her having a team, but just say that as well. I could certainly not keep up with that work load that she has. I am very happy you have had a great experience with her. Like you said it has to be more than one person just because of the inconstancies. Thank you so much for commenting and being so kind. I really appreciate the time you took to watch my video and comment on it for what it is.
Please don't contribute to the playing-down of toxic personalities. She's not blunt and sarcastic, she's abusive and rude. Toxic people don't need excuses, they need therapy.

@@knuckles2951 I do not think I ever saw this comment, but it home in a different way pertaining to some other things in my life and I appreciate it. Sometimes it is just little comments like this that can really make a big impact. Thank you
I came here to say that. These responses seem like an intern might have had your file. There's no way that she's personally answering all these. What you probably should have requested is a video appraisal. I think that the email appraisals are done by staff.
Wow, good to know as I’ve been considering her for appraisals. Thanks for this information even though I could not read email responses you were showing so quickly. I’ve learned from your expensive mistake before it became mine.
Glad it was helpful! That was the entire reason I posted this. A lot of people think it was to just be vindictive, but to save others from my mistake. Also, you can always pause the video if you would like to read the replies. They were nothing special, lol. So happy this helped and I hope you find someone else to help you.
I am not a dr Lori fan. I think she is insulting to her fans and normally appraises very common “ booth” items. And what does her PhD have to do with anything? There is no doctorate in antiques
OMG! Right! Who gives a flip about a degree in when you are appraising antiques. It has not one single thing to do with it. I have so many people commenting on "what degrees do you have" it makes me laugh. Thank you for watching!
I hate to disparage anyone but I hired Dr. Lori to do an in person appraisal. She offers these services when she’s traveling to different cities. It was $500 an hour. The first thing that I found odd was she wouldn’t let me film her which would’ve been nice so I could go back and review instead having to write everything down which took a lot longer. She’s knowledgeable but I saw a TH-cam video she posted where she doesn’t have to look at marks to know what something is such as pottery and glass. I have to refute her claim’s because one of the vases she said was worth $500 I went back later and when I looked at the bottom of the vase it had a FTD Florist sticker on it so I’m not sure if she was correct on her estimate. She also kept asking me throughout the time she was in my home if my experience was what I had expected. Which I found odd. It was like she was looking for approval from me about her expertise. In the end she was helpful telling me if I were to sell items the best place to do so but overall I think I could’ve done my own research and came up with the same result and saved myself some money.
I totally understand. I sat on this for years before I decided to make a video about it. There should be a for entertainment purposes only disclaimer on her site because the more I looked into it the more I found she was basically a fraud. I am not saying she doesn't have a doctorate, but I mean to call yourself doctor and then go around offering information, appraisals, and advice on things that are not even what you where educated in seems a bit negligent to say the least. My father has been looking at, collecting, and selling glass since before she was born and he has a very hard time telling if something is real or not anymore. Teleflora is making or having someone else make some really nice vases now and dad has bought more than 3 (teehee) and come to find out later the bottom still has the sticker on it so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about, lol.
@@OlivesVintageMarket Yes. You have a whole different perspective once you’ve experienced it personally. I was never gonna mention my experience until I saw your post and I recently saw you post a TH-cam video where she said she never has to look for marks she just knows. No one person can know everything. I’m sorry. Yes you have a PHD in art history or whatever but I’ve never seen anyone portray themselves as an expert on everything. Especially when you don’t even look at the markings. Now when I watch her videos and I see her say things like “look I’ve never seen these items before or done any research before I give you my opinion “ it’s like she’s trying to convince everyone who’s watching she’s that much of an expert. The first warning sign, if someone has to repeatedly tell you what an expert they are then that should tell you something. Most experts I’ve seen don’t have to tell you they are. They show it in their evaluations. Shes convincing though I’ll give her that. Thats probably why you have all these followers of hers who get mad if you criticize her. To them I say you’re welcome to your opinions but until you experience it personally you shouldn’t jump to conclusions and know that there are people out there who don’t have an agenda. They just want you to be aware before you go spend thousands and realize afterwards you’ve been duped. All she had to say to me when she wasn’t sure on an item is, I’m not completely certain that’s gonna take some more research. I’d appreciate that more then oh that piece of pottery with the initials RR on them. That’s just some amateur pottery shop work. Probably someone took a class. Fast forward to me eventually discovering another piece of pottery with the same initials in an art auction. The artist Rosa Ramalho from Portugal. Her pieces worth up to thousands. My point is I wouldn’t have expected her to know that artist without doing some research, but to say it’s basically nothing without knowing almost cost me money. Thank goodness I kept ahold of the piece.
If you haven’t done this already, try using Google translate on the Asian marks. It’s part of Google lens and works just the same, only you choose translate when you load the photo.
I understand your apprehension in doing this video because she can be very defensive when anyone questions her or says something negative. I think her 2nd appraisal on your charger went from being $350 to $20 purposely. You were very brave to share your experience and I'm sure there are many that are grateful for the "warning." Don't absorb anything negative... you are on an awesome path in life! Along with the others, I am learning so much from your research and appreciate the time you spend sharing! The best to you and your family. --Brenda
Thank you so much! Yes, that is what I was worried about. She does intimidate me, lol. I laugh a lot when I get nervous so if I had to talk to her about it, I would look like a hyena. Thank you so much for all of the encouragement!
Thank you for sharing your experience with this powerfully promoted appraiser. I think your assessment of her performance after hiring her for her professional services is detailed, well-documented, and fair. I'm very new to the world of treasure hunting. My mother passed a year ago and left us a large bin of what we thought was old costume jewelry. Upon inspection, I found the bin was a mix of genuine as well as costume jewelry, antique/vintage, some dating back to the early 17th century, some to the early 20th century. My first lesson learned was quality jewelers are not the best to ask for appraisals. I found them rude, and insensitive. It seemed no piece, regardless of age, design and purity was good enough for their approval. One even asked me if my goal was to waste his time. Yet he still made offers to buy some pieces. That was my introduction to the world of appraisals. I've since taken to youtube for a first step. However, as this is all new to me, when I begin to research an item from the bin, without fail, I find myself watching yet another one of Dr. Lori's videos on youtube. She has quite a monopoly of videos on this topic. As I don't really know where else to look at this point, I begin to take the knowledge she shares as unquestionably accurate. I am very grateful to you for helping me understand that is not always the case. I see now there are various options available to me to do my own tracking, including finding a friendly community of treasure hunters I can turn to for help. Your willingness to share your experience is inspiring and very helpful to this rookie. I appreciate it very much.
WHO can I get to give me price for two antique jewelry pieces that a jeweler gave me excellent prices to buy it and dr. Lori said was not that valuable. This jeweler said I should put them on auction because they were very valuable.
So if you’re looking for an actual appraisal, you should probably just go to a jeweler that does appraisals and they can give you the actual value to replace the jewelry. However, if you’re looking for something other than the intrinsic value, then you would want to do something like an auction or auction house they can actually appraise it for you and tell you what they could get for it if you would like to consign it to the Auction house or if it’s something that’s not that amazing to put in an auction house you can you know try an auction on eBay or even just send me an email and I’m happy to look at it for you for free and give you my opinion on where you should go for it.
I was thinking about getting her to appraise some antique paintings for me but after I watched your video. She doesn’t even seem like she gives you a appraisal certificate. Did you ever get valid appraisal certificates? Yeah, I’m going to find another appraiser after hearing your story. Thank you for letting me know before I wasted all of my money.
OMG! I hope you found someone. Truth is she may be pretty good at art. I see that she has written books over it, and has her degree in Art. I can not tell anyone much about getting things appraised by her that I do not know about. I do know my niche though, and she was not good in helping with it at all. Plus no certificate. I think it states she doesn't give them for the unlimited appraisals though. You would have to purchase a single appraisal or something probably. At this point though I can not ever say I would recommend her for anything. It is a ton of money too! I hope it saved you some!
My mother said that as well, but she told me she knows everything. So my mother was taken in by the bluster as well. I never watched her much and after this, I didn't watch her at all. So I have never seen it, but I know both my parents said she had a harsh persona.
I've been watching some of her videos and while I have only been at this about 5 years and have a LOT to learn, I watch in astonishment as she passes up things that I regularly sell for very good money and picks up other things and mis identifies them. now, George the Antique Nomad is almost always able to identify the pattern and the date of any given item and she very often doesn't have the foggiest idea what the pattern is or who made it. In one I saw her pick up some Johnson Brother's plates and HAD NO IDEA! Wow.
Yeah, she is not very knowledgeable about a lot of things. Jewelry, glass, and porcelain are all things I am pretty well versed in and I can tell she is not at all. It always makes me laugh when I read these because I do not watch her ever unless someone asks me to answer a question from one of her videos. Ever since I made this video I get more and more comments like these and horror stories told to me. Makes me wonder how she convinced so many people that she knows what she is talking about. Thank you so much for watching and sharing.
Oh and I love the antique nomad as well. He is so knowledgeable. I love that he doesn't care to show himself doing the research. I mean that is what you have to do. You can not know everything.
It's like an AI generated set up....and always ask self why these people are on our media and thrown in our faces out of all of the "professionals" in this day and age .... professional what's is the real question or what is the common thread that connects them?😊
Appraisers are like everyone else. They are as good as their efforts. I believe your complaints are valid. It seems she was very lacadistical about your appraisals...Many of the marks should have been recognizable by her if she had put some effort into her appraisals... However, I believe she is more entertaining and is very informative to most who have no or very little knowledge in these areas, You have to admit she is fun and interesting to watch... Perhaps paying someone in advance without getting a real benefit is the lesson learned here for you and for others. Your experience is certainly not similar to her in person performances. She does represent well in the videos she has posted. I am sorry this happened to you. But you know you saved me and probably many others, a lot of time and money...Thank you, for a dose of reality presented in a professional manner...
I am so happy if this helped. You are SOOOO right about it being a lesson learned. I learned it very well too, lol. I also now take her for entertainment but it still upsets me for others who are paying a lot and not getting a correct appraisal. I hope you have a wonderful year!
So when she asked you to "resend them so she can look again" she meant..."resend them so I can look at them" lol! Rather than some kid she hired from craigslist because she was overwhelmed with so many apraisals!!!!!!! So what I picture is a room full of high school kids in front of a computer answering these requests who she instructs to go to Google to research and screams at them to do their best!!!
Ok, I laughed so hard at this. I swear I could understand better if that is what she did. I can not understand why you would put your name on such shoddy work. It does not make sense to me. I honestly do not know how she could keep up with all of the appraisals that have to be coming in. I think it would be far better to say "Me and my team of experts" instead of saying its just her. Although, she would have to hire experts, lol.
Can you not reply with another question? Cuz it’s unlimited, right? Did you try to ask your “most important questions” after she gave you short value response? I mean we all know she doesn’t know every maker mark.. I mean there are thousands of jewelry and ceramic artists and more. She teaches us to find the value without considering the marks or signatures. Worthpoint has a wonderful trademark library we can access for about $20/month. I realize she didn’t give you all info for each submission, but at unlimited appraisals she may not have the time to cover it all. She probably wanted to get to all your items with values, more than being thorough with each piece and NOT getting them all done. 🤷♀️I like her a lot. I guess I haven’t seen what this other guy does for appraisals but she seems super affordable for her abilities. And as far as being short, or rude, or faceitious…that’s her personality. Did you not size her up for this before paying her?
Yes, I would write her back and ask who the maker was. She would say unknown maker or just maybe German. As in the video it was not until after I tried to get my money back did she start responding with actual answers to my questions about the makers. Makers and designers are everything in the resale world. If you have a stunning piece of crystal it matters who made it. You can not say it is a $50 without knowing the maker. If it’s Shannon crystal it’s very cheap or it could be a piece of Daum which would make it way more than $50. You expect to get what she says she will give you. At the front of the video I show her claims and then I show what she actually did for me. Now as a person who does not need the help anymore and knows how to do all of the research myself the information she gave me was pretty much worthless. So the point of this video was to try and help the people starting out to save their money and do their own research. Even you say worthpoint has a mark library. If you have the piece and the maker you can price it yourself and do not need the help. I do not watch her but if you say she teaches people how to consider the value without knowing the maker or designer that is a disservice to resellers. I honestly do not think she even did half of those emails which would explain the inconsistencies. I know she is a smart person there is no doubt, but I am trying to help people who do not have the money to use her services and other services. Even worthpoint is pretty useless. On my other video I show why and how to use it for free. That’s all. Just trying to help people save their money and let them know free resources so they can do it themselves. Thank you for commenting and giving me a chance to reply. I hope you have a great rest of the day!
@@OlivesVintageMarket I am that person, so I appreciate you showing me what she claimed and what she did. I am in need of hundreds of appraisals so I may use her service. I will try to request what I need specifically and individually, yank your for that. I am a reseller, and have been for 10 years. I have found her information extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I can do much of the legwork but I absorb everything she says. Not sure why you say that teaching us to value items without using the marks is a disservice. I do not agree. Yes, one brand or maker may be more valuable at any moment due to many factors, like popularity, reputation, the market in that specific niche, etc…but having her teach me how to look for the quality differences, and not just a mark, is invaluable and I will be able to value things myself with more of this knowledge. Her website is full of super helpful info too. You have to read her articles, it’s not on video..but I’m learning so much. Thank you though for this heads up. I do feel like you are bashing her though. Maybe she, and her style, is just not what you seek. 🤷♀️She is perfect for me🥰
Just watched a vid of hers where she appraised a book that she took to be an authentic Shakespeare First Folio for $1200. Well, first of all, probably it was a 19th C facsimile edition, but even at that $1200 is pretty light. But how could you claim to know ANYTHING about rare books and put that price on what you THINK is an actual original??? This is one of the most famous and rare editions of probably THE most famous author in the language, not some obscure edge case. I don't know that there ARE any uncatalogued FF editions roaming around loose, but if you came across one the top of your head would be lifting off. You'd be talking 12 MILLION dollars, not 1,200. There just aren't words for how ignorant that is. Just stunningly bad.
I am laughing so hard right now! I am just shocked so many people find her to be knowledgeable. It’s like the internet and research doesn’t exists for her, 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh my goodness Kacie! You sure saved me a lot of pain. I have a lot of things I have acquired & want to sell, but something about Dr Lori has been such a turnoff to me. Lately she does videos she calls Rants & it is so negative that it’s a turnoff. I literally have been too intimidated to even start the process & it would have been the unlimited month of appraisals. I’m so grateful to you for speaking up. I already watch your videos multiple times & learn so much from you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope you & your family are all well. I miss you here in TH-cam very much. Is there somewhere else I can follow & support you? 💜
OMG! Thank you so much! I am so happy that I helped you with that. She can be scary, lol. I really am about to start making videos again, and hoping to even go live some and help people, for free of course, lol. Dad was very very sick again with his cancer and it threw me off so much I just really stopped everything and then about a 2 months ago he got so much better and I have been playing catch up. Let me know if I can help with any of your items, I am just noisy, lol, but I do love helping. My email is kaciepaige03@hotmail.com if you would ever like to chat.
I don't sell jewelry and I don't have much knowledge about creative brands and especially the era in which certain jewelry was made. However, I began to investigate a bit because I have pieces that I inherited. I don't sell jewelry and I don't have much knowledge about creative brands and especially the era in which certain jewelry was made. However, I started to do some research on my own because of some pieces that I inherited. I started doing this out of curiosity because these pieces that I inherited are old and well I went to Google and I saw dr.lori I started to watch his videos to investigate and add myself to FB groups. and learned a lot seeing dr.lori and in the groups and I think that all people through time learn from each and every one of these people that we seek information and something that I did see and it was very clear to me is what dr.lori said there are many imitation jewels out there, I say this from my own experience some jewels are fake made in china imitating pieces of recognized brands what dr.lori said there are many imitation jewels out there, I say this from my own experience some jewels are fake made in china imitating pieces of recognized brands I have some earrings totally similar to imitation pieces, the difference is that the earrings that I have have a brand and are marked with the name of the creator or the brand and this makes a piece have more value without However, some that are also marked are imitation in that I verified it in these earrings, they are identical when looking at the naked eye, however, as Dr. Lori has said, it is not always so, so do you. Whether the piece is expensive or cheap depends on seeing what it is, it is not imitation and it is original. Pieces made in China are sometimes plastic, not semiprecious stones or pearls or silver and gold. the earrings that I have I took them to evaluate and indeed they are real originals marked with a value that Dr.lori said and I saw them in abay or mercari for 10 dollars it said imitation stones not marked it only said the style that seemed to be nothing more. With my curiosity to clear up doubts I bought the abay and indeed they were not semiprecious stones they were gold tone and bla bla in a few words they were not original to the ones I have.So somehow one is disappointed by oneself of these things that are usually bad for us but for some small difference out there there are a lot of expensive and cheap imitation jewelry and I am disappointed of this myself with the advice of dr.lori and many people who are in FB groups who, like me, seek to know and investigate more than we have. I do not deny that at first I looked at dr.lori how someone who does not know and only evaluates things as if they were anything but as far as I am concerned your advice and the advice of many people in the FB groups are useful to us some way or another positive and I am here because I believe that we can all take good advice from each other who are experts or have more experience than apprentices how I need to learn.
This is very helpful information. I haven't hired Dr Lori mostly because the appraisals are a little expensive and I want to make sure I'm ready to sell my items right away (I don't want the appraisal to get out of date). Your experience definitely creates some questions for me. I would have been disappointed too.
Glad it was helpful! I feel like there are others out there that are definitely cheaper and put more time into answering the questions. Thank you so much for your comment.
@@OlivesVintageMarket hi I have a lot off goodies I'm a little bit of a hoarder 🤣my self I will like to sell my stuff to the right buyer I have a painting it's on oak by Gattusso she said on the email I have to do a video call
She's a TV personality with a fine arts degree, nothing more. she's Mean! and unqualified as an antiques appraiser but people keep getting fooled and paying her....to insult them. Go to a REAL appraiser who isn't seeking attention. Sheesh.
I was thinking when watching this: perhaps when you get the unlimited appraisals Dr. Lori feels that you are mostly interested in the retail value since you’re probably reselling the items. Dr. Lori is from the East Coast I believe which is also something to keep in mind; sometimes people from there have a blunt way of speaking. She says her staff doesn’t do the appraisals so it’s kinda weird that some of the info is incorrect. That sucks that it wasn’t what you thought it would be. I would caution you from listening to people on Facebook though. There are some people out there who might tell you the wrong thing.
Yes I agreed with Facebook. I no longer use them much either as I do my own research but there is still information to be found there that is beneficial as long as you fact check it. My mother is from New Jersey and so is half my family so I know how they talk but it’s the ‘I can never be wrong attitude that gets me.
I can imagine you thought she could help you, that is the whole myth that is build around her. I stumbled upon Dr. Lori on you tube and thought, oh, fun let's see! She made a few impactful mistakes right away, and that caught my attention. She had a porcelain vase with a portrait, she said it was Madame Recamier, ( I think it is an altered portrait of Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun) who was the mistress of king Louis the 15th. Well Madame Recamier was 4 years old when Louis the 15th died so that certainly is rubbish. She said he was born in 1715, but that was the year he was crowned. These people lived 100 years apart but to Dr, Lori it's all the same to her. And on that misinformation she appraises and dates that vase. In another video she had the dates wrong about when the word NIPPON appears on (in this case) ceramics. She said it ended in 1891, but that is the year Japan started adding it, because that was readable in English on export products. Museums have specialized curators for individual departments. Nobody can be knowledgeable about everything as Dr. lori claims. Research takes time. She knows a lot, but because of her mistakes you can't trust what she says, and that is a shame. Personally I think her behavior is awful, she believes in her own ramblings and is aggressive to people who doubt her answer. In the meantime she makes a lot of money from people who fall for her industry. I think it is very brave of you to make this video that she can't delete :-) and it will help other people too.
Thank you so much! I love that you know your stuff too. It is so lovely to be able to research and not just have to blindly fall for appraisals from others. I love the Nippon mistake as well. I love ceramics, porcelain, and glass as well. I learned all about Nippon when I was young because my mother and father were such collectors. As you said people have their specialties and it is odd to think you can be good at everything and know everything. Those are the people I question the most now. Thank you for saying that about the video. I was scared and had a lot of hate for doing it, but now I am so so happy I did.
Hello, STS meaning: STS stamped on any ring band or any piece of jewelry means it was created by an STS Jewelry company which has its headquarters on Austin Texas. They are quite reputable and have been in business a very long time. They are most well known for making affordable prices real pieces of color genuine gemstone jewelry. I hope this helps Cheers, Willow
I want to share my experience with Dr. Lori and it has been really great. she appraised a painting. I sent to her three pictures. The appraisal I got was it was on two pieces of paper very detailed where it came from. I mean a bunch of information and I was very pleased with that. I had a question and she called me back herself. Her schooling is just is awesome and her experience with with antiques I can't even describe. . She does know what she's talking about and for her to offer this free service on TH-cam by showing people selling tips. And appraising objects for those of us who did not go to school to have a degree like hers, it is nice to get some of her knowledge. Take care.
I am very happy that you got a good appraisal. I have never heard anything bad about her appraisals on artwork. That is what her PH. D is in. I know she is a very knowledgeable woman and I am not taking that away from her. However, on this particular service, she did not help and even gave conflicting information on her own appraisals. I showed that many times in this video. I thought about this before I made it, but am so happy I did this now. I have had a lot of people reach out about how she did a good job, but a lot more who needed this. They had similar experiences and as recently as last week I had someone reach out with a terrible experience and it was with jewelry as well. I see now that she is of course very smart, but not at everything. Most people who watch my channel know that I am just trying to help others with jewelry and not everything. I am not sure what school has to do with this though. The internet can tell you just as much if not more than she can. Thank you so much for letting me know about your wonderful experience and I hope you have even more luck in the future.
I am so glad you made this video, I have always been quite skeptical of Dr Lori's appraisals. How can anyone know so much about so much. I have been studying costume jewelry for 10 years very seriously for the past five and I can't imagine anyone knowing as much as she claims to. I love your videos I think your information is so much more informative than anything I have seen on her appraisal videos she seems more like a stand-up comedian I'm sure she knows things but she's kind of like a bully
Thank you for this information. I was considering paying her for appraisals. I don’t think I’ll be doing that. Thank you for putting yourself out there and your experiences.
Thank you for being so very kind. I got a lot of negative comments for this, but I feel very good about doing it. I hope I saved you some worry and money!
Thank you for this! In one of her videos, a women asked for book recommendations for appraising antiques and she said, nobody needed books because we all have Dr Lori ! LOL It’s a shame because she’s so knowledgeable in many things, but she claims to know everything. I’m guessing there’s some kind of personality disorder there. Lots of red flags!
It seems a bit narcissistic but I am not sure about anyones disorders but my own, LOL. I can’t believe she said that. I am sure she is good in many fields but at least for the things I asked on she did not seem to be.
I love Dr Lori and people need to cut her some slack. She is only human and has “off days “ like everyone else. Perhaps She was sick or tired? She never claimed to be perfect. She does a lot of things for free and more honest then most. East Coast people are blunt, to the point. We (i am from the Boston area) don’t sugar coat things, we tell it straight up. Why would i spend 10 Minutes telling you something when i can sum it up and tell you the same thing in a minute? People that ramble on and on about something drives me nuts! Now imagine the rambler being on national TV, with several people waiting for their long winded question to end…because they have questions also. Dr. Lori has to cut the rambler off because its not fair to everyone else. People should appreciate her sharing her knowledge for free, and don’t be so judgmental. Its easy to criticize someone when you are not in “their shoes”.
Look, I agree with 90% of what you say here. That is why in this video I did not mention that she was mean, short, or anything about her personality. My mother is from New Jersey and my Husband was at the 82nd Airborne so we met, and I already knew many people from the East Coast. I could really care less about someone's personality when I am paying them for a service. As long as I do not have to sit around and have coffee with them I could care less if they are blunt, rude, or short. ... Here's the thing though, this appraisal service was over a month so that throws the whole 'off day' excuse out of the window, No one asked her to be perfect, but it is not unreasonable to expect someone to provide correct and accurate answers when they claim to be an expert, and if they do not know it's also important for them to acknowledge when they're uncertain about something rather than providing potentially incorrect information which not only harms the person getting the appraisal, but also the integrity of the market. Lastly, I do not need her free information. I have researched and been doing this for many many years, and have been dealing with antiques since I was a toddler. I PAID her for the hard and obscure items that I could not find, or was unsure about so I could tap into her "expertise". I do not see her do anything for free. She shamelessly promotes herself as the know it all, gripes about people asking questions and not paying, pushes her merchandise like a carnival barker, and gives out a lot of opinions and not very much actual information, and unfortunately a lot of it is inaccurate as well. I would gladly give a person a break for not being able to help me or someone who had given me incorrect information for free. I however, could not stay shut up about someone who is dishonest in their business practices and is taken money from thousands of people. I have never found someone else talking about their actual experience with her, but after this I have heard 100s of stories about how they were not given good advice, had to get their money back, was given completely wrong information, and felt cheated after she provided little to no useful information. I stand by this video and will make more. If she would only do the actual research, higher actual educated people to do the appraisal, and stop ripping the public off when they PAY for a service I would gladly not put up anymore videos and would do one on why I think she is worth the money. Unfortuntaly, she has not changed anything. I am sorry you are displeased with me showing what happened in my appraisal, but I am not a one off experience, it is happening a lot.
shes not really doing it for "free" like she would like you to believe. the "Free" information is so she can get your attention and then try to get you to either buy products through her amazon links, sign on to do the appraisals, or just for the ad sense money by viewing her videos on youtube. Lets not get it twisted: she is not doing charity work by uploading info on youtube. Not to mention her info is so off sometimes, its kind of a disservice.
Interesting video thank you…isn’t one of her catch phrases “ don’t buy it unless you know what it is” I’ve heard her say that many times on the videos I’ve watched and I’ve always found Dr Lori to be rather condescending. You only have reaffirmed what I thought so thank you for that. I’ve learnt far more from your videos so please do keep them up. Warmest regards David from England
I agree with you, David, Dr. Lori is very condescending and has too high an opinion of herself. I've only watched 2 of her videos, but that was enough to turn me off and now I ovoid them all together.
Dont buy it unless you know what it is? isnt the smartest comment from any appraiser tbf.. tell that to the lady who bought a jackson pollock for 5 bucks n has turned down 50 million lol
Thank you for such an informative video. You mentioned that facebook provides a lot of information about the makers marks and the value of of vintage items. Can you do a video on how to do the research? I don’t know how to navigate facebook and would so appreciate learning how to. I think a lot of viewers would watch along with me.
Glad it was helpful! There are many places out there that offer a ton of help. I have done a lot of videos over different places. I made this video a few years back and no think that Facebook does not offer the best information because most of them allow anyone to answer the question which allows a lot of misinformation about prices, makers, and dates of jewelry. I have put one video in here on some of the places I go and there are many others. Also you can email me and I will happily send you my cheat sheets with a lot of that information on it and different sources for other things relating to jewelry. th-cam.com/video/1eVcnLjeSrc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fZCK0dx6d4UuyRzT
Hey there precious from 4/29/23. Im proud of you! Thank you SO VERY MUCH!!! Thx for being a great Mom as well (we could tell :)) God bless you & yours abundantly & keep you safely w/in His wings. Psalms 91 ✝🕊
I’ve collected glass/Indiana glass/carnival glass for a few years nothing serious. I stumbled upon dr Lori and she rubbed me wrong. Every single video every single interaction. And I’ve watched a lot of her videos. But I tried to really dissect WHY she bothers me and why her bedside manner is so off. When a woman is loud and knows her value as a society we feel threatened. That’s the first conclusion I came to. But I am still bothered. I’ve long held the theory that when you are good at what you do, you’ll never have to tell some one. They’ll know. She beats people over the head with how great she is. How she knows it all. How no one any where knows as much. She strikes me like a “cure all” and if you know anything about a cure all they cure nothing. And when you have the doctor diagnosing treating and selling you the medicine and insists you don’t need a second opinion something is wrong. She sells the paper to tell you you don’t need to buy a paper from anyone else. And then sets her fans on “trolls”. I’ve watched her make fun of an autistic persons room, people who don’t know how to use a camera and bowl over a person trying to talk over and over and over. My dr is a busy woman who is often short on time but also high in information and she is kind and courteous and considerate. It’s not ok to be rude, and when a person is giving you money it’s NEVER ok to be rude. Marks matter, research matters, and people matter. People are what make objects matter and she seems honed in on the money not the people. Keep your head up
Oh Molly!! This was a wonderful post!! I love the use of the “cure alls”. I am historian and just love the history of this all the way back to the Middle Ages. Very wonderful insight and I appreciate your encouragement! It really means a lot. Thank you again!
You could not have said it any better. I am an academic too, with a PhD just like her, and I literally never met a single expert in my field who thinks he/she knows it all, although I am surrounded by AAAS members and Noble laureates. Her arrogance and rudeness are unmatched, and I applaud this fine lady who posted this video and for her courage to expose the fraud. It just boggles my mind how she can ask for $1,000 per week for those so called appraisals. Unbelievable...
I think she is actually very knowledgeable, but no one knows everything, even her (although she does seem to suggest that she does). I also find it strange she can "see" whether something is gold or not, or pearls or not, via video. Without testing, how could anyone know these things? I would not trust that. I do really appreciate her knowledge about eras of jewelry and things to look for. Her self promotion is over the top, constant and irritating. I like the clips where she shares her wisdom more modestly. I wonder if I would be so irritated by the self-promotion if she was male? Maybe it is a sexist impression that I get because it is unusual to see women be so self-promoting, but men seem to do it on television all the time. Overall, like anything else, get a few opinions if it really matters. Learn from others, but never take what they say as gospel. I'm grateful to her for sharing her knowledge, but I would take everything with a little grain of salt. I would do that no matter who the "expert" is.
I stopped watching Dr. Lori a long time ago, she became rude to ppl on her Live's. I think she's a fraud and doesn't really know the real value of things. Sorry you had to go through this.
Thank you I appreciate that. It was a real disappointment, but it did make me get even better at researching. You are probably the 20th person who has told me she is rude to people. That actually hurts my feelings. I was hoping she was just like that to me because I tried to take my money back, lol.
@@OlivesVintageMarket You got balls for making this. She has a pretty loyal following on here. I really think she gets away with it because she is a youtuber. Who treats people like that in real life and gets away with it? Face to face it would be a problem for most people. I quit watching a long time ago.
I don't like how condescending she is to people. She is mean to people at her shows, thanks for this info, I will not be using her! Thanks for speaking up!
I think I can help. Similar figurines appears in Miller's 2018-2019 Antiques Pricing Guide. The Guide also includes Dynasty marks for Chinese and many Japanese items. All with full color pictures and prices acheived at auction, including the action houses who sold them. I bought my Guide used online for cheap. Also, there is a website for identifying jewelry makers marks ... the list is quite extensive.
You are such an amazing person. It's like everything you do is so genuine and real. Not just when you're talking about jewelry and the history of a piece, backed up with how the little historical details of a particular era had an effect on a certain piece of jewelry.....but also when you talk about your relationship with your father....all the responsibilities and struggles in raising your beautiful, beautiful daughter...and then being brave enough to be so honest about yourself with all of us. You are always respectful and considerate of others, even when they might not deserve so much of it, but that's YOU. I am sure that any one of us who watches your channel would agree to all of that about you and tell you to not change being who YOU are....even when it gets painful (it will pass and you will get thru it) but don't go thinking you need to change.... you are an amazing woman and I am so happy that I met you. Oh, and Kacie if you ever need to talk or cry or whatever....real late at night when the rest of the world is asleep...call me. I'm always up late and would love to talk. Even if it's 3,4,5 am...Im probably up! I've been wanting to show you a few things Ive accomplished recently. Let's talk soon
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. What a wonderful comment. It brought tears to my eyes. Meeting you over this platform has been amazing and I did not ever think that there was a such a wonderful community of people such as yourself out there. Thank you so much for this. It is really nice to hear that my personal stories are not to foolish. I just want share everything. Maybe that is not smart, but I just feel close with people. You are wonderful, Thank you!
After the first unsatisfactory appraisal received, you shouldn’t have paid for anymore of her services. Duh! You wouldn’t eat a burger at a joint that you’ve previously eaten at and said it sucked now would you?
Right! I didn't either. This was a flat fee for a month long service. I had unlimited appraisals it said. So I had so many pieces I decided to go for the one that cost more in the beginning, but benefit me more and save money in the long run. So it was only the first time, lol.
Good for you, that experience is what you pay for and 1000 dollars is not a little bet of money for her opinion basically. You should send it to the Better Bureaus Office because that was a rip off and poor customer service response for 1000 dollars.
Thank you for your support. I paid less though. I just found out that it was raised to this price, but still, I feel like this is possibly still happening to a lot of people, and really hope this video can allow others to have a more informed view of this service.
I enjoy watching her videos, but I've noticed that she never talks about how to find a qualified appraiser. She always says to hire her. I'm sorry, she can't possibly do all the appraisal work in the world. She clearly is busy... why does she want alllllllll the business? It's just not the way most professionals operate. I also have watched literally hundreds of videos, and she always says she'll tell you where to sell your stuff to get top retail price.... but she never does. It's like it's all a teaser to get her business. I'd love to know if she actually guides people how and where to sell their objects if they pay for an appraisal.
Well I did pay for her services and she never told me where her values came from or where to sell items I was getting appraised. Since making these videos about a year ago I have had so many people contact me about how they feel like they were scammed or had terrible appraisals too. So I am more shocked that there are not more people being upset about it. Like you said she is so busy there is no way to keep up with it all. Why try to get every persons money? Just be the best at what your good at. I don't even want to say what I think her expertise is anymore.
I can tell/or it may seem/ like when sending "3 pictures" and "One question" in an EMAIL to anywhere.......A program can be the actual receiving Email address , this can be an actual "App" or "cell phone app" like what google has. The program then will send the "Automated" response. hhmmmm.
I would be happy to help if I can. Just email me what you would like to know and I can see if I can look it up and help in anyway. I do not charge anything for helping others, so please do not try to pay me or even ask that. It makes me feel a bit weird, lol. Please email me at kaciepaige03@hotmail.com.
Mid 19th century means 1850 so not mid century modern that’d be mid 20th century so you got confused a little bit with the peacock brooch? But I appreciate your video, I agree with you on many points
Yes, mid 19th century does mean mid 1800s, however, she doesn't say mid 19th century she says mid 1900s which is the 1950s or there abouts. I went back and checked just to make sure I wasn't going crazy lol. Thank you and I appreciate you watching!
@@Shrink007 RIGHT!!! lol, that is why I was so frustrated at the entire thing. Thank you again for watching, and sharing your information. I do not think a lot of people actually know what you just said. My husband is the exact opposite of me and cares nothing for history (he is a financial and business-minded kind of guy) and he didn't know the centuries were like that. At least he didn't till I explained it to him some years back. 😂
hi there .... i think she has already had a bad review and did a youtube live to get all her subs to pat her on the head unless this is a new review.. if it is ...this weeks dr lori live will be a dont miss as she will be begging all her subs to please keep on believing lol ...for what its worth i found your channel to try to identify some clasps etc on jewelry as i know very little....i did try dr lori but to be honest the woman thinks she knows to much and from what i have seen //(reselling/salvaging for over 35 yrs).. have never heard such rubbish in all my life... if the valuations given were all correct i would be living on my own private island....people need to realize it is what it is..she is a saleswoman selling...her fans are her fans which is just fine...get yourself ready for the woe is me live stream about your video and ignore all the lori fans that are for sure going to be here very soon...The Minuit someone thinks they know it all is the Minuit people need to run away and fast..but to then have her brainwashed fans all believing without any question is the reason it will carry on...i think if she did specialize in say art/wall hangings etc which from what i see she knows a little about and stayed from jewelry/pottery/glass etc which unless it has WATERFORD or Lalique etched into it its all a guessing game...had to unsub from the channel as i found the rudeness smart replies and ganging up on others with her pleas of please people please tell me i am great a little to hard to listen too...if it helps you there is a you tube guy here in the UK called antiquesarena who is quite good at chinese pottery and marks with lots of reference books .. his name is walter he may help...he is a dealer of many years with a lot of knowledge .. and!!! if he doesnt know which is possible is honest enough to say i dont know let me try figure that out for you.... good luck with your channel and your FREE!!!!! help...rant over .. whew !!!! how many DR lori fans will thumbs down your support hmmmmm lol
LOL, I loved the rant. It always helps me to get it out. Yes, this is a new review I just did, but the services I got were 2 years ago. The only reason I remembered about this was because I was doing a video over my resources and thought that it was important to know what resources NOT to get or pay for as well. When I started down that path I remembered that I had kept all of those emails at the time from Dr. Lori. I thought no time like the present to do the 'Review' on it. Now I have had A Lot of emails and some comments that are definitely a bit on the mean side. I can tell they did not watch the video though. I put out facts and they say I am being manipulative, mean, bashing, psychotic, that I am ugly, my daughter is retarded and stupid, and that my father should have died of cancer. I was a bit overwhelmed with such hate, especially when I was just trying to help. No worries though I deleted the email, replied as nice as I thought I could to the comments, and will let it roll off of me. Because none of it is true and there are amazing people like you that want to help, learn and just be an amazing person. Thank you so much for letting me know about your appraisal source and I will try and see if I can reach out. Thank you again!
Late looking at this video but agree. She can't do every appraisal and if she does, it is a quick glance like she does on her TH-cam pricing off the cuff without looking at the item closely or doing any research. Purely for entertainment and even then gets old with her trying to get people involved in things not related to appraising (hair, nails, weather, clothes, etc...) and like she needs some Ritalin!
lol, I do not watch her enough to know that, lol, I know it helped me, hahaha! But, you are exactly right there is no way for people to know everything and not even 1/20th of what she claims. I love how she says "oh I have never seen this item before, new to me, and then tells a price based on real market data." lol
LOL, I have never seen her appraisals on Beanie babies, but I bet they are. I see you picture and you must love beanies. I collected them when I was young. My daughter plays with them a lot now, but I still have my favorites, lol.
You do realize that anyone can put any random "tag" on any random object, right? As far as I can tell from Dr. Lori's online appraisal form I don't see where you have a section where you ask a certain question. There are questions that she asks and you answer along with your photos. Although I see where one question is asking does the piece have a mark. I plan on using her expertise in the future. Since you still have the item, as long as the market hasn't changed I'm positive you can sell the piece at the price she gave you. I don't see how she could be a museum coordinator without having the credentials that she has. List the charger with the info you have and see if it sells. She did make an effort to help you and you since you were dissatisfied.
lol, she gave me two different prices. The exact same item, nothing changed, and then she gives me the price of $350 and then $20. Also, after purchasing the service you get a list of things you can ask for with each item, and I only asked what was allowed. I understand that she held a few positions at museums, but that does not make you an expert at appraising. Museum curators do not appraise. They gather, preserve, display, negotiate trades/loans and so forth. Also, she did all of her work with art. That is not jewelry and her lack of knowledge shows in so many ways. I am not trying to say she is stupid, but she is wrong in not doing the research and work needed and paid for by a whole lot of people. I hope that she gives you good and accurate information when you use her in the future. Thank you so much for trying to help, but I am well beyond thinking that she is redeemable in many of these cases.
So I think Dr. Laurie has a lot of education and knows what she’s doing, however it irritates me when I watch a video of her and she’s always telling you about her PhD several times in every video. So I do think she’s full of herself. Now in her defense I have heard many people give appraisals on the items that they don’t know the maker of. One can look at the design and the way that some thing is made and give you an idea what they think it’s likely worth even if they don’t know the maker.. So I watch her videos occasionally to learn information and I contemplated several times going to her with some pieces but just could not justify the expense. My guess is that she has her underlings do a lot of it for her and tells you that she’s doing it which is not accurate but that’s only my own opinion
Yes, I agree with most of what you say. Except I just do not think you can give an accurate appraisal when knowing the maker is possible and even easy. Like if I had a Tiffany bracelet but an appraiser looked at it and said oh its a sterling Id bracelet $30, but actually they are worth more than that. I have heard a lot of good things from her and bad. I just take her for more of entertainment value now that I learned how to do the research myself. I think you are right though she is very smart, full of herself, and expensive, lol. I have heard only good things when it comes to her art appraisals which is what her degree is actually in so that is a huge plus. I think someone else had to be doing those appraisals because they were so far off. It is up to everyone to listen to her or not. However, I do not even think she is bad at what she is doing, but this unlimited appraisal feature is very subpar and too expensive. Anyways, it's late and I am ranting now, but thank you so much for leaving a great comment and letting everyone see your opinion. I was told by a lot of others that someone called the antique nomad does appraisals for a really good price, and a lot of others have seconded that if you are ever looking for someone more affordable. I hope you have a wonderful night and hope to see you again on the channel.
It does make me wonder if she had staff helping her since that appraisal changed so much. I can see why you were upset over the experience. You had a lot going on and then get frustrated with what was promoted as a service you didn’t fully get. Maybe the price has gone up so much to keep from being overwhelmed so she can actually do it herself and do it as advertised. I do enjoy watching her and will just take with a grain of salt. I think she knows a lot more about some things than others. You look exhausted. Hope Olive starts sleeping better. It is so hard to break a habit once it gets started. I may try to get my son to look at the back of the charger. He has a minor in Japanese and could probably read as long as it is Japanese and not Chinese. Have fun at the sales.
OMG! That would be wonderful. I have never figured it out. I also wondered if she had staff doing the appraisals. It would make more sense. I know she has to know a whole lot and have no doubt. You do not get as popular as her on no merits. I swear I am not trying to make anyone hate her or not watch her, just think about those expensive services. Your right I am a bit tired, but I will have two days of fun starting tomorrow. Thank you so much for your comment it is so appreciated and I love how you look at all of the different aspects because truly who knows why those answers were so different and others so wrong.
I concur with others here. You did not get the entire service you paid for. The request to resubmit is ridiculous, especially when the provider claims to have such a wealth of knowledge and should have done the contracted service correctly the first time. If there is an extreme volume of work to catch up on, then halt taking on new business (out of the office) for a while. You didn’t do anything to condemn the person - just comment on the service, and in fact you paid her a compliment - and I hope the folks who ask for your credentials realize that you took what knowledge you have (we all have some knowledge on something… we don’t have to justify our knowledge, and you were not doing it to teach others, but to make your point.) to make a point on the replies you received. I wish you and your family well, and I wish Dr Lori well too. I hope she finds a better balance and if she is using staff, that she goes for quality, not quantity.
Thank you. I appreciate that. I agree with not taking on new business too. I can barely do what I do so I can not imagine being able to work with all of the things she does. Thank you again!

Does anyone have some alternatives to Dr. Lori besides this account? I really want to follow more antique jewelry experts/specialists who are educational but it's so hard to find outside of one or two accounts. I love this channel though-- so informative and authentic.
Thank you. I appreciate that. I think there are a lot of people out there that do things like me, and do them on a regular basis. I never ask for money or try and sell on here so I have to still work at my real job, lol. But, are you looking for reselling or just general knowledge? I have a friend who posts a lot about her jewelry, but she also knows the most amazing accounts out there. I honestly do not follow a ton of people because I just have so much going on. Maybe you can get some names from her though. I think there is someone like Sunday baubles that she raves about. @SLOHappyVintage is her channel. I know she would love to share some of the people she watches.
@@OlivesVintageMarket Oh wow thank you! I'll definitely check that out. And yes, looking for more "collector" type information-- how to identify dates, unmarked jewelry, telling quality for stones/settings etc. I follow a lot of resellers because they're detailed and interesting, but I just follow as a collector/curious nerd.
GREAT, true video!!! No one can know the value of everything that’s put in in front of them! Much better to deal with an appraiser who specializes in a certain field! She makes so many mistakes but she has this following that just keeps drinking the kool-aid. There should be legal recourse when she gives a bad appraisal. Watched one if her videos where a lady brought in a rare bitters bottle. She appraised it as a bottle for spirits worth $60.00 and then said some bottles can be worth big bucks like a bitters bottle !! Shame on her
OMG! I do not watch her but I am laughing at the thought of it. I am on a the 400 mile yardsale with my dad right now and just had a guy trying to sell my an paparazzi necklace as an antique. When I told him it was not really that old. He acted like I was a child and what did I know.
Completely agree with your assessment of Dr. Lori! Her jewelry knowledge is incredibly sub par. I remember in one of her videos she indicated that lower karat gold is SOFTER than higher karat gold. The inverse is actually true and this astounding, rookie error is what prompted me to disregard her jewelry assessments. Her diamond weight estimations are incredibly high as are her jewelry appraisals in general. She really does not have a clue about jewelry at all. Its really sad though because so many people love and adore her and feel that her assessments are accurate because of how they feel about her as an antique personality. I cannot imagine the upset that comes with the let down of such false appraisals. This just makes me think that its all show and no substance.
Oh, it definitely is. She would do so much better just getting a good team behind her to help with research and give accurate information. She already has millions who think she is gods gift to appraising. Wouldn't it be great if she actually put in a bit more effort to make her appraisals and advice correct.
LOL, I am not sure if you are 1. teasing, 2. have genuine concern, or 3. you are just trying to be mean because you do not like my video and you do like Lori. However, I will answer all three.... 1. I appreciate the humor, thanks for making me smile! 2. I really appreciate your concern and support. I was going through some tough times during this video with having a newborn and helping my father through his cancer treatments. He is where I got my love for history and antiques and it was very difficult to watch him dwindle away. It may have shown a bit to much in this video, but I assure you that I am in good hands and work with an A+ psychologist. I am actually off all of the medications I was taking at the time I made this video and doing very well. 3. I don't appreciate mean-spirited comments. Let's keep the conversation respectful and constructive. I understand that you may have a different opinion about Lori's services, but I was relaying my personal experience with this service and tried to be honest. ..... Well, I hope one of those will be a good answer for you! Also, I love the art and the visuals you share. I enjoy the gothic, religious iconisms, and fantasy folklore styles by so many. I used to read Poe to my little sister as a bedtime story. The tell-tale heart was probably not soothing, but I have recently started to enjoy some of Odilon Redon's art. I can in all honesty say I do not know much about art except I like what I like and I find your taste in art to be truly exuberant!
@@OlivesVintageMarketBravo Kacie! Excellent response to an intentionally worded yet veiled and cruel attack mocking concern. That was uncalled for. I pray the commenter is still working with his or her “good clinical psychologist”. But that offer had nothing to do with the topic of your post. You have class and took the high road in your very gracious response. Thank you for speaking about a topic I have felt the same about.
@@lynedrouin8476 Thank you very much! I appreciate your support and comment! It is sometimes crazy how people will act on here, and probably including myself.
Alot of the information is on the piece. It's just experience. Sometimes another set of eyes sees something you've missed but it shouldnt cost celebrity prices.
So very true! It was a challenging time when I reached out for that help, and now I see that there was no need for that. There are so many resources and people willing to help. I am happy to be one of those people now, and hope more can learn and understand this just like you!
Glad to have come across your video as I have so many things I inherited (3 generations, no family left). I need to move, could use the money & would like to sell many things. I live in an apt. I'm renting 2 large storage units & have NO idea how to deal w/everything. Am 80 now, definitely have to hire help. Was trying to figure out how to get appraisals from Dr. Lori. Wouldn't bother now. I have been ripoed off in the past, don't need more bad experiences.
Great video and thanks for posting! Your large charger is Chinese and modern. You can tell because it's printed or transfer-printed and not hand-painted. The bright color of the white glaze, and the rounded perfect foot also suggest it's modern. The mark is 龍泉窯 which means "Longquan kiln". But it's very obviously not a real Longquan piece, as they made mainly green celadons. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! I knew it was modern, but just had no idea what it was. I bought it at a high end auction with some other expensive pieces, so thought maybe it might be too. I always appreciate any help and thank you for the information!
so ol dr lori v may have her subjects that she knows about for sure but she dont know every thing like she claims she does! i watched her on some morning news show once ,and she was calling peace Dollars, Morgan dollars and claming they were worth 40 $ avarage and they were selling for 25 avareg at the time, and just today i was watching her talking about some gold jade and diamonds earrings and bracelet and she was calling the green stone jadeite nephrite as if they are one in the same while they are both considered jade they are two different gems with both haveing different specific gravity Weights ! it wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't so condicending ,and (matter of fact) when she obviously is extremely ignorant about things that she makes you think she is an expert on! . I worked for an inspection co. once at a refinery and we x- rayed welds on pipe that carried product to and from in certain processes at said refinery ! we inspected pipe weld's if a welder did 100 welds we would randomly x-ray 10% of the 100 welds if we found any indications of porosity of a certain size we would x-ray 10 % more and the welder would get more and more welds x-rayed untill we had to eventually inspect all 100 welds, and the upper managent would decide if they wanted to kick the guy out of the refinery or not after a bit but the moral of the story is dr lori v has two strikes with me and at least one with this young lady,so dr. lori v is pretty much a pump up case, as far as i can see , if you don't know something ,then just say you dont know! its better than bullshiting your way threw it, and looking like a fool !
OMG!! YES!! That is exactly what I think. I mean jeez just say you don't know!! Its ok and not a big deal. No one can know everything. I think it is so crazy too that you worked inspecting welds. My husband worked inspecting welds for a pipeline when we were in Williston, North Dakota and I understood your analogy so well! Thank you.
@@OlivesVintageMarket Lori v is just unrealistic in her antique road show style of appraisal, except the road show knows what they are talking about ! crazy that your husband does inspection on oil pipe ,thanks for the anti dr lori v haters club platform, i thought for sure i was the only one in the comments section ,not bowing down and rolling over to show my belly, crazy ,you have a good one ✌🏻
Wow I’ve been watching her for years and I think she is way over her head and I remember that she used to charge about $400 monthly. Now prices are outrages and she’s is just cringy to watch her videos and uncomfortable when she’s being rude to guests. Thank you for the heads up… and hope that Dr. Lori sees your video and updates her business or she will be loosing customers. As a reseller, I really felt your honesty and could relate. Hope you are doing good in your own business.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you seeing the video for what it was. I do not have a vendetta or anything just wanted to get the information out there so resellers could try and save some money. I know collectors go to her too, but I feel like resellers are probably the ones that would pick the unlimited package. I hope you are doing well in your reselling too! It is always nice to hear from everyone so thank you so much again!
I am a big fan of Dr. Lori. I tried to listen to your video but you talked more about your personal life than Dr. Lori. Did you ask Dr Lori why she did list the maker? If so what was her response? Did you contact her? You do have beautiful items. Hope you able to sell them.
@@naylor2000 The problem with this sort of appraisal is that thankfully the poster knows a bit about antiques. Most people don't. They'll take her at her word. If you look at the mistake ratio here it's quite shocking. In short, you can imagine how many appraisals of hers are well... Off and their owners have no idea about it. I suggest that you watch other appraisers online for another point of view and perspective. I can safely say that the majority aren't like Dr. Lori, take that as you will.
Your writing is as confusing as your voice trying to explain what occurred. This is seriously unethical behavior on your part. You paid for a service, she provided it, you didn't like the service. Pretty much end of story unless you wrote to Dr Lori explaining you were unhappy. Instead you post a video trying to discredit her. I don't like this.
@@BellaZurbriggen Okay, well someone didn't actually watch the video!! Writing to her? Done that. Talking? Been there. (showed both clearly in the video you forgot to watch, but so bravely commented on). And yet, here we are. If I pay for a steak and end up chewing on beef jerky, you bet I’m going to say something about it. And why shouldn’t I? We’re not talking about a minor hiccup here; we’re talking about a grand canyon of a gap between expectation and reality. As for discrediting, trust me, I’m just the messenger here. If the message stings, maybe the issue isn’t with the one holding the megaphone but with the tune it’s blasting. Sharing my experience isn’t just my right; it’s practically a public service. And about the whole 'unethical' jab-coming at me from behind an obscure username, really? Irony much? At least I’m out here, owning my words. Can you say the same, or is hiding in the shadows more your style? Let’s keep the conversation honest, Dr. Lori's Top Fan, or at least, let’s try to. Cheers, Bella.”
At least if you don’t appraise you learn a whole lot when she goes thrift shopping and she does explain a whole lot what gets me is if she makes mistakes because you can make a mistake say it’s worth so much or it doesn’t look like such an such thing I mean everybody’s entitled to mistakes and the reason why I look at it when she tells you an appraisal is she’s not over exaggerating or giving you a lesser price because she doesn’t plan on buying it other appraisers when you walk in since they believe maybe you’re coming in because you’re going to sell it after you appraise it they give you a less value but you still learn a lot a whole lot from her from Dr. Lori
I appreciate your perspective and agree that there's a lot to learn. Making mistakes is indeed part of being human, and it's not the errors themselves but how we handle them that counts. I've noticed that corrections I've posted in her comment section have been removed within 24 hours each time, which concerns me because it prevents a complete and accurate exchange of information. I believe our community benefits from transparent communication, and part of that is openly addressing and learning from errors. I strive to follow this principle on my channel by acknowledging and correcting my mistakes when they are pointed out and revising videos or placing notices when I see them. It’s not about being infallible but about growing together with each other.
George is a sweet, knowledgeable, and honest appraiser. He would be someone you can trust.
@ElsieBrea I love George the Antique Nomad. He's awesome!
U r sooo dumb
Not finding anything on a piece also doesn’t mean it isn’t a secret treasure. ❤
My impression is that she is a grandiose narcissist with a pattern of abuse to her clients. Who needs that?
😂😂😂 first impressions are usually right, lol
No one NEEDS sarcasm but we are seeking knowledge and that means being quiet and learning.
You won't learn from her...

I am sure she is very smart, however, this video is about how the service I received was subpar. I am not questioning her experience but this service.
Thank you! This person is obviously jealous!
I can't talk about stuff such as American pottery as I know nothing about it but here are just three examples in domains I can comment about that I've seen where she's been way off (all can be found on TH-cam):
1- Katana valued at 2000$: not actually Japanese, likely a tourist piece from another Asian country.
To quote Mark Twain, "It's easier to fool someone, than to convince them they've been fooled."
I'm honestly hoping that more videos and people like you will come along and speak out against this practice of extortionate prices for valuations (I don't know much about the states but in central Paris, an expert Commissaire Priseur (auctioneer with a lot of qualifications) will come to your house in person for half a day for about 250$) and then giving over inflated values afterwards. Dr. Lori, sadly, isn't the only one doing it but she's certainly the most vocal and the person with the most amount of coverage.
She is popular in part because she is one of the first results you get when you Google "online appraisals."
Does she do live appraisals on Facebook? Wow..
Are the candlesticks Meissen???
Yes they are! I think that is one of the marks she Identified after I put in the dispute. It was very nice to know. I basically stole those from an Estate sale, lol. My dad and I came across them and bought them for hardly anything.
Smh. Thanks for this input. I have a beanie baby that I believe to be pretty pricey. Anyone know where I may possibly get this appraised? Thx.
Then after a bad marriage moved back and my 18yo daughter made the comment one day
" the people here are so rude"..living in Florida now I see the difference.
Lol, I will check it out. Nothing surprises me anymore.
If a person goes to Worthpoint, you can find out exactly what your objects have actually sold on the net for the last 5 years. It costs about $26-27 per month. You can look up what actual value against Lori's" information". You can see for yourself how off the mark she is on objects. See for yourself.
lol, yep I have that same info in another video. It’s crazy how bad she is! Thank you for sharing!
@@OlivesVintageMarket Yes, I don't trust her at all. I am sorry you had to pay for information that was useless! Thank you for the video!
@@OlivesVintageMarket she has lots of groupies - but you did the right thing exposing this gap in knowledge
Could the stick pin not be Hercules but instead be Daniel in the lions den?
I was just wondering what university she stated where she received her doctorate ? Is it in her paperwork?
I think it was from the Pennsylvania state university
@@OlivesVintageMarket I have been missing you. I hope you do some videos.
@@sheribrogden9247 awe thank you. I miss doing them too and hope to start again soon.
to me, she's amazing, i have gotten many appraisals from her and made thousands of dollars based on her knowledge.
@@OlivesVintageMarket so sorry that happened to you.. you have some beautiful pieces..very nice collection.. best wishes and good luck..
@@ravenred201 Thank you so much! I really appreciate everything
She also wildly misidentifies gemstones. She seems to think jade and nephrite are different stones. And that smelted hematite is marcisite.
Jade and nephrite are different, nephrite is a variety of jade, generally not as valuable.

@@OlivesVintageMarket
Yes.

Hi! Can you share some of the treasure hunting communities you belong to? Thanks.
The thing I dislike about dr lorie is how she is so mean to all the callers
It's like an AI generated set up....and always ask self why these people are on our media and thrown in our faces out of all of the "professionals" in this day and age .... professional what's is the real question or what is the common thread that connects them?😊
Did she respond if you said the mark is clearly there?
Nope she never responded to that.
She probably has too many folks working with her who are not accountable.
Well done video. I am completely convinced you're fair, honest and knowledgeable. I've subscribed.
OMG! Thank you! That is so very nice of you to say. I really appreciate that!

That was very interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. I was wondering about that process.
💕
No problem. I hope it was helpful
@@religionyorubapalooshaifan6818 I wish you the best. Her degree is in art so she will probably do good for you that.
@@OlivesVintageMarket thank you for your reply good luck to you to
She's a TV personality with a fine arts degree, nothing more. she's Mean! and unqualified as an antiques appraiser but people keep getting fooled and paying her....to insult them. Go to a REAL appraiser who isn't seeking attention. Sheesh.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Thank you! I always appreciate the info!
Yes, she is probably good at art, but her videos about costume Jewellery make me laugh sometimes))
Thank u for this. Definitely need more details from her. Anyone can do this
The generic responses , & lack of answering direct questions, make me wonder if AI could be responding at times.
@@jewels4028 you know I don’t know if AI was that advanced at the time. Seems more like an uneducated intern. Lol
Why would i spend 10
Minutes telling you something when i can sum it up and tell you the same thing in a minute?
Agreed.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
That necklace is Winnie-the-Poo.
I agree!! I feel she's a fraud ripping people off! Lots of arrogance and chest pounding to try and coverup her true lack of knowledge.
I stopped watching her because of her snarky attitude.
@@OlivesVintageMarket You got balls for making this. She has a pretty loyal following on here. I really think she gets away with it because she is a youtuber. Who treats people like that in real life and gets away with it? Face to face it would be a problem for most people. I quit watching a long time ago.
Dr Lori is not a fraud!
Agree
I don't like how condescending she is to people. She is mean to people at her shows, thanks for this info, I will not be using her! Thanks for speaking up!
I think I can help. Similar figurines appears in Miller's 2018-2019 Antiques Pricing Guide. The Guide also includes Dynasty marks for Chinese and many Japanese items. All with full color pictures and prices acheived at auction, including the action houses who sold them. I bought my Guide used online for cheap.
Also, there is a website for identifying jewelry makers marks ... the list is quite extensive.
Thank you! I will check that out!
I am so sorry for your experience. I am certain that I will not use her. I absolutely had the view from her evaluations that were just off the cuff.
I knew she was a scam when she posted a video appraising Beanie Babies!
She totally misidentified turquoise in a bracelet as Kingman mine (Arizona). It was from the Royston mine in Nevada.
Lol, people send me different clips all of the time now. It is amazing how much she gets wrong on the shows.
Could someone have added a Japanese tag to a Scandinavian thing? 🤷
Probably import tags of some sort. I still have those weird things, and have no idea what they are. Maybe a menu holder? lol, thank you for helping!
The program then will send the "Automated" response. hhmmmm.
Hmmm… that would be crazy!!
I like your videos and learning alot I was gonna do a video call with her and now I don’t think so could you help me out with my questions
@@OlivesVintageMarket oh my goodness, I thought you must have misunderstood because there’s no way she could have placed the brooch in the 1950’s 😵💫
@@Shrink007 RIGHT!!! lol, that is why I was so frustrated at the entire thing. Thank you again for watching, and sharing your information. I do not think a lot of people actually know what you just said.
Thank you for this. I’m in agreement. Her appraisals on Beanie Babies are way higher than they actually are.
LOL, I have never seen her appraisals on Beanie babies, but I bet they are. I see you picture and you must love beanies. I collected them when I was young. My daughter plays with them a lot now, but I still have my favorites, lol.
Who do you have to appraise your beanie babies? I overheard someone saying that they "aren't worth a dime".
Thank you.. The frustration of obtaining information plus personal monies involved… is greatly appreciated for sharing your experience…thank you..thank you.❤
P.s.
Happy to have found your channel. Just subscribed 12/8/2023 Happy Friday🎉
Expert definition: a person with a high degree of skill in OR knowledge of a certain subject.
*** experience**** 😂.. your now an expert. Who needs a PHD certificate/ Diploma when only 3-10 handwritten references of satisfaction others have experienced with you / company advise.. either by personal opinion..or professional opinion..( personal is not getting paid.. professional is getting paid)..
God Bless.
Show me the tech could’ve been attached and then it might’ve been phony you never even thought of that is something you can attach to something you can never right away assume it belongs there if it can be easily attached
Thank you for your comment. I understand that in today’s digital age, skepticism can be healthy, and I assure you that I share the value of honesty. If you have any specific concerns about its content, please feel free to discuss them with me. I always try to be open and honest as possible. So I have no need to try and hide any of these comments or any others.
@@stephenholmes5362 jeez! I think anything having to do with Thomas Jefferson would be worth A LOT. But I could never appraise that lol
@@OlivesVintageMarket For sure!
You did good. Thank you for being brave. Facts are facts and I'm thankful you showed them.
Thank you so much. I am so happy you see that. I did not want this to sound like a revenge video or anything.
I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability! Don’t let the haters get you down 💕💕
Thank you!! I appreciate it. Wonderful comments like this make it totally worth it the risk!
Olive, can I refer you to a good clinical psychologist?
@@OlivesVintageMarket, Thanks for proving my 1-sentence point.
I always appreciate any help and thank you for the information!
so ol dr lori v may have her subjects that she knows about for sure but she dont know every thing like she claims she does! i watched her on some morning news show once ,and she was calling peace Dollars, Morgan dollars and claming they were worth 40 $ avarage and they were selling for 25 avareg at the time, and just today i was watching her talking about some gold jade and diamonds earrings and bracelet and she was calling the green stone jadeite nephrite as if they are one in the same while they are both considered jade they are two different gems with both haveing different specific gravity Weights ! it wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't so condicending ,and (matter of fact) when she obviously is extremely ignorant about things that she makes you think she is an expert on! .
I worked for an inspection co. once at a refinery and we x- rayed welds on pipe that carried product to and from in certain processes at said refinery ! we inspected pipe weld's
if a welder did 100 welds we would randomly x-ray 10% of the 100 welds if we found any indications of porosity of a certain size we would x-ray 10 % more and the welder would get more and more welds x-rayed untill we had to eventually inspect all 100 welds, and the upper managent would decide if they wanted to kick the guy out of the refinery or not after a bit but the moral of the story is dr lori v has two strikes with me and at least one with this young lady,so dr. lori v is pretty much a pump up case, as far as i can see ,
if you don't know something ,then just say you dont know! its better than bullshiting your way threw it, and looking like a fool !
OMG!!
Just now seeing this, but wanted to say thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
