I get lots of this type of work its a fact of life for older vehicles
Restolad
videos are for reference and entertainment only Even tho they are based on step by step guide - If you attempt a repair like the one seen in this video please use the proper safety equipment, - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
You are the only real panelwork man I have ever seen on TH-cam. What you tell us is really worth knowing. If you have a car over a minute old and a preference for doing it the right way! Or doing it yourself. Your video is Gold Restolad!!!!!!
Wow thanks . TH-cam dumped me as a partner a long time ago ... so sorry stopped recording what i do .... just get on with it with no more camera
@@restolad yea I don't know how all that works but they made a mistake doing that with your contribution. I believe you deserve the praise .
Great video! This is an inspiration to those of us who will be doing similar work under the windows!
This is such an important video for any body with a slightly older car to watch. I walk around the shopping centre car park and see so many cars which are repairable now but in two or three years will be scrap!
Great video and neat ideas on the the nooks and crannies. Thanks
Great to see another vid. Haven't seen those discs, I'll keep my eyes peeled.
I always look forward to your videos, keep making them and thanks
Great video, keep em coming!
Awesome. Very educational. Making learning this skill easier
I've never seen those disks. I'll def check them out. Thanks for the vid.
Hey Restolad, havent seen a vid for a while, good to see you back on here, thanks for the info
Cheers
Scott
Restolad...have you ever tried taking an old 36 or 40 grit grinding disc and cutting it down with an old pair of tin snips into a hexagonal shape? The tips really get into the nooks and crannies, and you can cut one disc down two or three times.Cheers from Canada !
Amen to the roof, good job nice tips thank you
Great video
I am about to pull the windscreen out of my Mk2 escort and I can already imagine how much rust I am gonna have to fix. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Was there much rust 😬 or have you sold the little beast 🚙
@@reverseuniverse2559 there was a tonne of rust. It's fixed now but the car is parked in the garage since I had a baby. Maybe one day she will grow up and wanna drive the old eskie :)
keep posting videos I am fan from Bulgaria
Cheers mate helped alot
Hi, I love your work, with panel work. I am restoring my Holden HX Kingswood, my next job will be the window back tailgate pillars on my Station Wagon.
Could you maybe find, & video this rust repair.
Love the finishing comment 😂👌
What do you use on the bare metal after grinding the rust out?
cool!
love the video to bad he never heard of a spot blaster and covering the inside of the cab from repair crap
Dremel tool would be easier then drill. Nice job.
Still not as easy as a die grinder with steel brush attachment
Haaa. Wonder if thats a Datsun duel cab. They are known for rusting there and all over the place. I have repaired so many in my time.
I used rust converter to do the same job but this looks a better way to eliminate the rot.
You know what my pet hate is? Body repair guys who let the inside of the vehicle get full of sanding crap.
Use a blanket, pull from one side of the other INSIDE the car and use the door frames to trap the blanket between A pillar and door. Pull blanket over dash and job done.
Of course, it means you will have to be less lazy and not sit on the expensive dash.....
wow hate is such a strong word .Oh and i'm lazy as well ? mmmm i think we would get along if we took the time to get to know each other or may be your the reason i stopped giving free lessons on youtube to those who need some pointers to complete a task like this one.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh horrible pun at the end. Nice job, where abouts in New Zealand are you?
I really wanted to see the welding process,,,, seam weld it,,,overlap it,,,,whats do i do,,
If there is a large spot of rust, can you use body filler ? If so do you use bondo which holds moisture or fiberglass?
Yes but you have to be sure to treat (phosphoric acid product) and prime the surface (POR15) or the rust will return.
is it better to spray primer and then body filler or body filler onto the metal then primer?
+friedchicken1981 Depends on who you ask but here's my take on it.
If you're using talcum based filler (usually pink or yellow), it is NOT waterproof and will soak up moisture. Products like DuraGlass filler have fiberglass chop strand mixed in, and are water "resistant", not to mention less brittle. For water resistant fillers, you are probably ok with some raw steel directly under the filler. Personally I still put down a zinc chromate epoxy primer first, then a final finishing pass with urethane primer.
If you don't have access to proper paint spraying equipment, then look for a good quality rattle can primer that is self etching. Just make sure you wait long enough for the primer to fully cure before adding filler (and do not fill thicker than 1/8" - EVER!).
grndiesel cool thanks
Where are you guys?
Who fixes this? Body shop? Glass shop? Mechanic?
Focus!
After 40yrs in the job there's only one way to stop rust and that's cut it out!.
I heard that a vinegar solution also kills rust, is this true? Thanks
vinegar will work but there are better treatments, like phosphoric acid products and POR15
hey restolad. great video.
just curious, couldnt you have just used some rust converter?
thanks mate.
Better to grind the rust down and then use a rust converter. You don't want live rust hiding under dead rust.
Iron oxide
Iron OXIDE
time too throw out the potato and buy a better camera i think lol
Get rid of the iron ore lol uou wouldn't have a car left
