    I have used Car Gurus twice now and couldn't be happier. They were local buys so I scheduled a time to go look at them. Both times I knew what dealer was being contacted and I could have very easily contacted the dealer directly which I actually had to do with the second car. Consider Car Gurus a tool. Its a great tool to compare cars and see what options you are getting before getting to the dealer. Autotrader is the same as i have used them in the past.

Plus, if you''re buying a new car, you should use your bank or credit union's car buying service. They'll get you a good interest rate and do all the work in negotiating a low price. VERY easy! But to walk into a showroom and talk to a salesman?! Not me!

So we are at the dealer buying the car and i get a text from the guy at the dealership, he's in the back "web sales" somewhere, asking me something about still interested yada yada yada, I'm like, Dude i am here! right now! Same with Consumer Reports car buying guide. $$$ is the root of all evil and in the car business there is a lot of $$$ to be made. The consumer is on their own.

    I search for cars in my area. Then I contact dealership directly using their phone number. Disagree:
    I used car gurus as a tool to check price, good deal, bad deal, high or low price, above market value, below market value, and personally think it's pretty good. Bought my 2012 Jeep Rubicon from their advertisement, but went to the dealer to check it out, test drive it and make up my own mind. Made the deal and drove it away. I would never buy a car sight unseen. Using their web site to find something I am interested in is good, and gives you access to most used cars in your area, new too.
    Use them for a tool, but don't use them to buy your car, make that deal with the dealer or individual, didn't even know you could buy your car from them.
    Better than Kelly Blue Book in my opinion.

      You also missed the part where its a third party referal service arrangement, Cargurus doesn't tell you exactly where the vehicle is and who is selling it and its almost all dealerships. Now sure its possible to get a good deal from a dealership....but unlikely, and while in some cases you could easily find out the who,what and where regarding the seller but not always. Re watch the video and watch the entire thing because you clearly either didn't or you didn't pay attention. Cargurus knows practically nothing about the vehicles listed and they have so many disclaimers that the sellers and dealers don't have to honor the advertised price or even still have a listed vehicle in their inventory when you arrive, and just like any only posting the product in person may not live up to expectations and this of course is all after you've presumeably paid them a small fee to arrange the transaction, idk about that last part perhaps maybe the dealership pays for that but I find that surprising and highly doubt thats the case.

    What a strange video. He gave no real reasons to avoid using cargurus, other than they are a big company? that is irrelevant. It's merely a site where people list cars. All responsibilities of buying a used car remain the same, regardless of the site you use to find one.
    I look at it like this: you have to perform your due diligence. Get the vin and run that using at least 2 different vin check companies, look at the car in person and drive it. Ask questions - if the seller seems put off by questions, walk away from it. Ask for service records - if the seller doesn't have them, walk.

  • @lunar-firefly

    If you use CarGurus, you have the option of checking the dealership's site and check reviews. If that's not enough, you can always check the BBB, and you should always check various free vin websites to look at the history of the car. I use CarGurus as a stepping stone rather than working through them to obtain the car. It's handy for that. But like you said, don't trust them for financing, or as a middle man between you and the dealership. And always, always be thorough with the car before buying it. There are check lists available online with a whole list of things to look for before taking it for a test drive, and what to look for during one. And you can use a basic OBD scanner to check for cleared codes, and apps that allow for live feed from the system which can be logged and reviewed once you get back to the dealership.
    Of course taking it to a mechanic for a more informative scan before finalizing the deal is always smart. 👍
    My experiences with CarGuru have been alright. I watch cars on there more often than not, then pick one, research it, and check for theft records, salvage, recalls, etc. before even considering contacting the dealership. They have accidents, and 'fleet' marks on the vehicles as well, which you can filter out. Often I also use Craiglists because sometimes you'll find the same car listed for less there. It's not all bad. Just wouldn't use it for more than locating a vehicle you might be interested in, and getting some base info on it.

Took the title to the DMV and switched the title for $30. The dealership charges people $500 for the same thing! I will try the never go to a dealership for anything aside from parts if I need to. Heck, they charge like $40 for a smog, but you can get it done yourself for $20. Also, make sure the car is checked by a dealership or a local shop in a pre purchase inspection and get it snogged before buying. If it all checks out, maybe buy it if you like it.

    Everyone of my cars over the last 25 years were bought by the mechanic who I trusted he asked what type of car I wanted and because he had the connections in the car trade he got me the best deal going and nearly every car he got me lasted for 200,000 miles my present car the last one he got me before he sadly died has 176,000 miles on the clock,so do what scotty says and get a trustworthy mechanic to help you and just pay him for his expertise

    I found my current car on Cargurus. Of course, they never contacted the dealer, I did that myself. It's been 6 months, and it's still the best car I ever had. I love Mazdas.

      Jelly Doughnut - Is yours the SkyActiv trim? I had a 2014 Mazda3 which had the same 2.0L SkyActiv engine and my personal record was 43 mpg. Amazing. Sold it to try and get an S GT with the bigger engine, but I kinda miss that little thing!

    • @jellydoughnut4585
      @jellydoughnut4585 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@drivedb7 Yup, it's a SkyActiv. My max has been 39 mpg, but with conservative driving I've been hitting 500 miles per tank. It's pretty impressive for a car that's not a hybrid.

      @drivedb7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jelly Doughnut - I think Mazda wasn’t able to fit their new (at the time) 4-2-1 manifold in the older version of the 3, hence the lower mpg, but still it’s remarkable they were able to squeeze such impressive mileage out of an NA engine.

    Do YOUR due diligence before bringing a valuable company down! Also, respond to criticism or your video is pointless sir. Without Cargurus , I would never have found so many great deals. It is for advertising only. CarVana and other sites are the site unseen rip off artists. Do YOU due diligence sir before listening to yourself talk and using your hands like an insane car salesman or crazy Eddie!!if you do not know who crazy Eddie is look at car salesman from the 80's Chicagoland area.
    Thanks

    none of this is accurate, literally none. car gurus is the place to compare the market and make sure you are getting a good deal, the address to the dealers are listed and car fax and vin is posted. like literally, why are you so skeptical, should everyone just ride a horse or is that ENTIRE INDUSTRY broken too? Did you not make your living working in the car industry? Do you not drive at all? Are you just that miserable with your life that you just tell others all cars are the devils work? come on man, people love cars. I KNOW you love cars or you wouldnt be preaching about them on youtube and getting money for it lol

    Usually they have the name of the dealer on the site for CarGurus. Maybe not how CarGurus want them to display it but they do, and I can just research the place and call them myself about the car I'm looking for. I don't pay any attention to the gimmicky stuff they have on that site like the ratings and what's good or bad, I find the car I'm looking for at the posted price, I go check it out using my own automotive knowledge, if I think it's a sound car, I buy it! Same with all the other sites. If the price ain't the same or lower, I walk outta there, that's their loss, not mine.

    So from where to buy a car? seriously? Everywhere is now flooded by dealers. Facebook Marketplace, craigslist, everywhere. It is almost impossible too to find a good deal on a car that owned privately. I wish someone out there can come up with "Private only car sale platform" and requires the sellers to show a proof that they are private owners before they list!
