I can't wait to tell you about this guy named Uncle Tokyo in Bangkok, Thailand!!!
Yesterday, I was shooting a street food video in Bangkok with my buddy Mark from Migrationology for his awesome channel. We ate 3 delicious lunches and were about to wrap up the day... until we came across Uncle Tokyo's street food stall on the corner.
I sat there in amazement, watching him cook and craft these tasty treats called Khanom Tokyo, which are like mini-pancakes with either a sweet (custard) or savory (hot dog) filling.
After observing Uncle Tokyo's work flow and asking him questions (through a translator, Mark's wife) -- I learned more about his story and couldn't help but make a video about him.
He's been cooking these EXACT same snacks on this EXACT same street corner for the last 20 years here in Bangkok. Every morning around 10AM, he wheels his push cart through the busy streets of Silom (Bangkok's business district) to set up his stall. Then he sells hundreds (if not thousands) of treats, before calling it a day at 2PM -- when the lunch crowd dies down. I never mentioned in the video, but the price of these things are about $0.25 USD each.
Uncle Tokyo is representative of the countless other street vendors around Bangkok who work hard mastering one single dish... but NOBODY is as funny and playful as him!
