I had 약과 for the very first time this year, during my first ever visit to Seoul! They are fantastic!!! They have a nice, dense texture with a nutty & sweet flavor 🤤 so delicious!
aaaaaww a colleague spent a couple month in the Korean office and when he came back he brought us yakgwa, I'm dreamin' about it ever since... I was wondering what will come sooner....me making it from scratch for myself (as I usually do) or finally getting out to visit Korea and get some there :D
Yak 약 = medicine Kwa 과 = cookie (from kwaja/과자) Explains why people believed it to be medicine back in the day and it’s still true. Many cultures around the world still consider honey as medicine to this day ❤
this was made popular in Alchemy of Souls............an AWESOME show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is really good! @@CafeMaddy
Yes I grew up eating these. Korean American here.
When I lived in Korea, yakgwa was one of my favorite treats. I had no idea it got popular in 2021
I love Eric’s cookbook my mom got it for me for Chrismas
Tried some for the first time a few weeks ago. It looked like the first one you showed in your video. It was soooo tasty, especially with tea!😊

I always had these growing up, but i never really liked them. Now I've been craving them like crazy but the nearest asian market near me is 1hr away.

Sooo yum! Craving it now. 😋
I had these when I lived in South Korea. They reminded me of donuts and were so good 😋
"...reminded me of donuts..." That's all I needed to know. Sounds like my kind of thing!
I feel like this would taste like Chinese Mahua omg, it looks delicious
Cool
I eat 20 at a time😂 tasty!
We tried them last year but it was too rich for me personally lol
They look a little bit like another Korean cookie called dalgonna or something like that.
